In this episode, Michelle tackles the paralyzing effect of perfectionism and how it keeps high-achieving women like us from taking action. You'll learn why done is better than perfect and how to start messy, take action now, and trust the process instead of focusing on an ideal outcome.Key Takeaways:Perfectionism is a trap: It keeps you stuck, waiting for the “perfect” moment that never comes.Action over perfection: Start with what you can do now, even if it's messy. Perfection will never be the goal—progress is.Trust the process: The journey of fitness, nutrition, and mindset is the real reward, not just the destination.Imperfect action leads to progress: The more you take bold steps, the more confident you'll feel, and the less perfectionism will hold you back.Action Steps:Start messy—commit to just 20 minutes of movement today.Make one healthy choice in your nutrition today—focus on protein and hydration.Let go of perfection—trust the process and celebrate progress, not perfection.Quote to Remember:"Done is better than perfect. Anger phobia is an extreme fear of anger in oneself and others. It can lead to avoidance of conflict, which can damage relationships and prevent personal growth. Key Points Anger is a normal human emotion, but it can be harmful if it is not expressed in a healthy way. There are two main components of anger phobia: judgment and fear. Judgment can lead us to believe that anger is always bad, while fear can lead us to avoid it altogether. Both judgment and fear can be based on past experiences, such as being raised in a household where anger was not expressed in a healthy way. It is important to challenge our judgments about anger and understand the underlying fears. Once we understand our fears, we can start to develop healthier ways of dealing with anger. Questions to Consider What is your relationship with anger? What do you think about anger in yourself and others? What fears do you have about anger? How do your fears about anger affect your relationships? What can you do to develop healthier ways of dealing with anger? Action Steps Start by paying attention to your thoughts and feelings about anger. Notice when you are judging anger or feeling afraid of it. Challenge your judgments about anger. Ask yourself if they are true. Explore your fears about anger. What do you fear will happen if you express or experience anger from others? Develop healthy ways of expressing and dealing with anger. This may involve learning new communication skills or seeking professional help. Conclusion By understanding our judgments and fears about anger, we can develop healthier ways of dealing with this emotion. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/becky-smith0/message

The Posture of Prayer: Pray like you are talking to a loving Father (v. 1-4). Make prayer a priority in your life everyday, starting today! Challenge: Try to start and end each day with a time of passionate prayer for your Father in Heaven. 2. The Persistence of Prayer: Pray with some holy tenacity and Godly grit (v. 5-8). Prayer is not just about me getting my needs met, but prayer is also about me becoming more like my Father who is in Heaven. The more time that I spend connecting with Heaven, the more Heaven comes down to take residence in my soul. 3. The Picture of Prayer: Pray with eager anticipation (9-13). Find a good place to pray. Your prayer closet is anywhere will you will have minimal distractions. Also try to develop a habit of when you pray. Mornings are a great time to start your day before you begin your daily routines. Today’s Big Idea: A.S.K. Pray like all depends upon God and keep seeking and knocking like you believe God will answer! Action Steps: * Start and end each day with a time of meaningful prayer with your Heavenly Father. * Ask God to do His part, and you keep on taking the next right steps until the prayer is finally answered. (Keep in mind that you may get a different answer than you originally requested). * Make prayer a culture in your everyday life. Prayer should not just be an activity that you engage in, but prayer should be part of who you are!

Mark and his team are always working to uncover what is working right now in marketing. They do their research on where things are headed and adjust their client's marketing campaigns to fit those predictions. Their suggestions are always based on data and industry research, making them rock solid.    As a result, we thought it would be helpful to have Mark pull together the marketing trends he and his team have discovered over the last couple of years and then share those trends with all of you. In this episode, Mark will also cover why we should be spending time, money, and effort on marketing in the first place. Tune in to hear his incredible insights into today's top three marketing trends and what you can do to leverage those trends for your firm. Show Highlights: Why marketing is important for every business, including law firms. The effects marketing can have on your firm.  Trend 1: the way people find your law firm is more fragmented than ever. Why you should be using multiple marketing channels. Trend 2: consumers want to have digital service options. How law firms can adjust their marketing to leverage trend two. Trend 3: Google is one of your biggest referral partners. How to take advantage of Google as a referral partner. Subscribe and Review We'd appreciate you subscribing to this podcast and leaving an Apple Podcasts review. Reviews help others discover and learn what Law Firm Next is all about. It only takes a second and helps us out a lot! ACTION STEPS: Start investing time, energy, or even some money into your marketing to future-proof your new business.  Think about ways to take the content you already have or some content you can create and repurpose it into other marketing channels. For those of you who implemented Zoom calls, client portals, e-signatures, electronic payments, etc., BRAG about it on your home page. Trust me: very few of the law firms in your town are talking about that and it is a great way to differentiate yourself right now. Think about how you can leverage the fact that about 50% of people are searching for a law firm and not using a referral. Go back and listen to the Google My Business how-to episode and start looking into ways you can improve your search engine optimization. *** Episode Credits If you like this podcast and are thinking of creating your own, consider talking to my producer, Danny Ozment. At Streamline Legal, Melanie helps law firm owners make their firms more effective and efficient all the time. She has seen firsthand what trips law firm owners up most often. Based on this experience, she had identified the top three systems and procedures that law firms overlook that have the biggest impact on their businesses. You probably already have many of these systems by default. However, don't shrug this topic off as irrelevant if that's the case. Today we're going to take a deeper look at these systems to see how we can beef them up. This will truly take your law firm to the next level. So tune in to learn the importance of systems in general, which will have the biggest impact on your law firm, and the features you may need to focus in on to make the biggest difference for your business. Show Highlights: How systems can help in times of crisis. Why you don't need to know every detail about your clients as a law firm owner. Why having an intake system is so critical. The importance of billing systems. Where most law firms waste time and energy with billing. How a file closing system can benefit your firm. Subscribe and Review We'd appreciate you subscribing to this podcast and leaving an Apple Podcasts review. Reviews help others discover and learn what Law Firm Next is all about. It only takes a second and helps us out a lot! ACTION STEPS: Start with these 3 systems: intake, billing, and file closing.  Do you have them all documented?  If not, pick the one that's missing or start at the beginning. As we've discussed in the past, you don't have to make this more complicated than it needs to be. On a piece of paper, Word document, or Google sheet, write down what you want your system to look like.  Write down WHO does WHAT by WHEN for each step. Share it with your team. Get their feedback. This will also help get their buy-in. Once you've shared it, hold them to it. This is the new expectation. If you don't, you'll get frustrated that your system isn't working when, in reality, it's the people not working the system. *** Episode Credits If you like this podcast and are thinking of creating your own, consider talking to my producer, Danny Ozment. THE Leadership Japan Series by Dale Carnegie Training Tokyo, Japan

2020 Will Be Different   Let's make IWWCW our motto for 2020.  Quite a mouthful as far as acronyms go, but the meaning is sensible, yet challenging.  In What Way Can We is a perfect foil for inspiring those who resist peaking out from deep inside their comfort zone.  By the way, we have now captured a big proportion of the Japan archipelago right there.  Problems arise but we should never be defeated by them. This country however is the risk aversion capital of the universe.  This is important - don't be put off by other people's limitations.  They may see no way forward because their thinking is too negative.  We need IWWCW thinking to overcome all of that negativity roiling around us.   We should use IWWCW thinking to focus on your own problems and conquer them.   The new calendar year is always a time for reflection and goal setting.  We get a few days off and can put some distance between ourselves and the everyday bustle and minutiae of the business.  This affords an opportunity to think more strategically about where we want to be over the next few years and how to get there.    After all of the bonenkai and big dinners, we look at our waist line and think we should strike a blow for freedom and do something about removing that fatty liver build up.  We also know this is not our first rodeo and we have done and said all this before.    We have notes scattered amongst bits of paper or maybe even collected diligently in one place.  If you want a good laugh, go back and look at what you said you would do in the business or personally, a few years ago.  But this year it will be different.  Well, the Einstein take on insanity was repeating the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.  We were crazy kids in the past, but now we have seen the light.  So far so good.  Where do we start though?  IWWCW?   Start small.  Sounds a bit defeatist doesn't it.  “No, I can do that big project!”.  Well going by track record so far, why would that idea be true?  Let's try a different approach this year, aim lower to start off with and then build up the tempo.  We avoid the rush of blood to the head and steer clear of the initial “spurt mentality”.  We think more long term for a change.   We know that to change our results, we need to change what we are currently doing.  We also know we are creatures of habit and the current crop of habits is delivering what we are currently getting.  Ergo, we need to create some fresh habits.  New habits will generate new behaviour and that in turn will create better ways of working and living.  Employ IWWCW thinking.   For some people this gradual approach goes against their nature.  They want to crash through or crash.  Great.  How has that “crash through” bit been working out so far?  This is the obese crowd, crowding the gym in January but who evaporate by March.  This is the mad boss making massive changes all at once in the first quarter and seeing them fritter away by the third quarter.  Behaviour change is tough and needs a sustained programme to achieve results.   The new thinking is don't plan for massive changes back at the office for the new year.  Go for the 4/64 dance card.  This is the next level of the Pareto Principle.  Pareto said that 20% of our efforts produce 80% of our results.  If we push the Pareto Principle even harder, then 4% of our efforts yields 64% of our results.  Let's consider what that 4% might consist of?  Also compared to achieving nothing in particular, getting 64% seems pretty good.   IWWCW is good thinking but don't try and eat the elephant in one gulp.  Find a 4% bite size piece that gets a 64% return in the business.  What might that be?  Is it some change to the systems being used now?  Is it shaving off some item that reduces scale by 4% but delivers a 64% cost saving? Is it a pin point investment in training the people to sharpen up their productivity?  Is it allocating 4% more of your time to supervise the very key functions of the team?   For your personal development, aim for reading five pages a day at first.  Find a category area that will stimulate your mind and give you fresh ideas on how to drive the business forward.  Take a good look.  There are many books sitting on your bookshelves as yet unread.  Pick up a four percenter and start with that one.  As you find yourself achieving some daily reading consistency, crank it up to ten pages a day.  At that rate you will finish a reasonably sized book in a month.  Twelve a year is probably a lot better than what you did over the last decade!  If you tried to read the book quickly, you may have been too ambitious and find, just like before, that book that got started, didn't get completed.   If you are going after your health improvement again this year, declaring war on your waistline, be strategic.  What would be the 4% intake reduction of alcohol and food, or specific choice of content, that will get your weight down by 64%.  After having made selection number one, add selection number two, for the items which will be next four percenters.    If you are taking up walking or running, start modestly.  Maybe don't head off too far at first, but look for a nice, close big hill to make you work intensively, over a short period of time.  As powering up the hill gets easier, extend the distance you can cover.  Keep track of the time taken to see if you can improve the work rate.   If you are down at the gym or pool, which are the four percenter exercises which will give you the best results.  Pick a few and then look at increasing the number of sets and reps.  As you improve, add in more exercises - the next group of four percenters.  Keep a written record that you can refer to, so you can see your progress and track it easily.   We know all of this stuff, by the way, but we just don't do it.  This year will be different because we are going after the 4/64 sweetspot.  We are seeking to change our behavior, rather than trying to get short term results.  Water on rock is our mantra - we will wear the problems down over time.  IWWCW is our change up in our thinking about all of the problems which will spring up.     Action Steps Start small and scale up. Look for the four percenters and start there. Don't try and crash or crash through Measure and track progress Use IWWCW thinking to solve problems

How many calories on keto should you do? People are carrying around a lot more calories of fat than they may realize. Many people think they will lose weight just by cutting their calories. But, in reality, this doesn't work. Counting calories doesn't really work because of these variables: • Age • Slow Thyroid • Insulin Resistance • Exercise • Stress • Sleep • Dietary Fat vs. Body Fat Burning • Body Problem (autoimmune problem, inflammatory condition, etc.) • How Calories Influence Hormones • How Many Times You've Dieted In The Past • Speed of metabolism Instead of trying calorie counting, discover how many calories you need and how many times you should eat. When you consume a meal, you should be satisfied and full without being uncomfortable. You don't need to count calories on keto. You just need to aim for being satisfied. Action Steps: • Start with healthy keto (shift to fat-burning) Then, start working your way down this list if you need to as your body adapts. 1. Remove snacks 2. Go down to two meals If that doesn't work, go to the next level: 3. Go down to one meal (OMAD) If that doesn't work, go to the next level: 4. The Cutting Edge Japan Business Show By Dale Carnegie Training Tokyo, Japan

Honey works better than vinegar in attracting people and their cooperation.  We know that, so why do we forget this at work.  We are short with people and too much occupied with our immense status and authority.  This is all vinegar. Others are not attracted to this approach.  We need to work on our people skills if we want to have influence and get cooperation.  How do we do that? Welcome back to this weekly edition every Tuesday of "THE Cutting Edge Japan Business Show" I am your host Dr. Greg Story, President of Dale Carnegie Training Japan and best selling author of Japan Sales Mastery. We are bringing the show to you from our High Performance Center in Akasaka in Minato-ku, the business center of Tokyo. Why the Cutting Edge?  In this show, we are looking at the critical areas for success in business in Japan.  We want to help advance everyone's thinking so that we be at the forefront, the Cutting Edge, of how to flourish here in this market. Before we get into this week's topic, here is what caught my attention lately. There is an acute shortage of delivery drivers in the transport business that is impacting companies like Amazon and Rakuten.  According to the Ministry of Health, labor and Welfare there were two point seven jobs for every driver application in June.  A separate government survey in two thousand and sixteen found that eighty three percent of transport companies were overworking their drivers.  This high demand situation has led to higher salaries, with the resultant costs increasing delivery rates.  Amazon and Rakuten have been moving their business to Japan Post which has increased its share to twenty percent, third after Yamato at forty three percent and Sagawa Express at twenty nine percent. In other news, the pickup in land prices has been fueled by the Bank Of Japan's monetary easing programs.  The gains have been particularly steep in the areas popular with tourists.  The booming tourist trade has pushed up demand for Hotels an shops that cater fir tourists.  Land prices in Ginza keep rising and Kyoto is also doing very well. The biggest jump was in Kutchan in Hokkaido, the location of the internationally popular Niseko ski resort. Last year the number of inbound travelers to Japan hit a record twenty eight point seven million.  The total this year topped twenty million in mid august and appears on course to exceed thirty million by year's end. The governments target is fifty million by twenty twenty. This is episode number fifty-five and we are talking about  Lead To Outperform The Competition Soredewa ikimasho, so let's get going. Harvard Professor Joseph Nye coined the term “soft power” to describe how nations can achieve their aims through persuasion and the ability to attract.  Our world bristles with nukes.  Testosterone fueled fighter pilots duel at supersonic speeds over rocky outcrop flashpoints.  Drones have 007 licenses to kill and volatile dictators strut, posture and provoke. Hmm…having a soft power alternative to World War Three sounds attractive.    Closer to home, can soft power in our businesses achieve persuasion and attract cooperation? There are plenty of testosterone fueled dogfights going on in the C-suites amongst colleagues and between Divisions.  Corporate leaders strut and posture, while middle managers whip the troops to do more, faster with less.  Power, status, authority, rules, regulations, contracts etc., keep people in line, but none of this engages them.  Time for some fresh thinking! Here are four soft power plays that persuade and attract the team to outperform the competition. Play One:  work on our communication.  The WHY of the vision as well as the what and the how need to be explained in ways that inspire the troops to care. We own the world we create, so include our people in creating the vision.  Plenty of corporate offices have elaborately framed Vision, Mission, Values statements that hardly anybody can recall.  How do you live it, if you can't remember it?  Well you don't and this is a failure of communication.  The Ritz Carlton Hotel chain became famous for having every shift start their day by re-visiting their WHY.  Good organisation creates good communication.  How hard is it to get all of your work units starting with a daily WHY recharge?  It takes a few minutes and costs almost nothing. Play Two:tap into the emotional wellsprings of engagement. Intention is important here. Following Douglas McGregor's Theory X, Theory Y staff motivation models, if we see our people as lazy, inept, untrustworthy then we have to ferret out their failures and fix them.  If we see our team as basically good, loyal people doing the best they can, then we can switch our gaze to becoming a “good” finder to recognise them, rather than to scold them.  So leaders need to take a Theory Y “happy pill” every morning before work and decide they will be finder of good work and praise it, rather than becoming a Theory X carping dud detector.  Try it for a week and see the difference. Find out more when we come back from the break   Welcome backPlay Three:emphasise “valuing your people” rather than parroting the “corporate values”.  Our global engagement survey, validated in Japan, showed that the feeling of being valued was the trigger point sparking inspiration, empowerment, enthusiasm and confidence.  Innovation is directly correlated to engagement, because if you don't care, why make it better? Communicating to each individual “you are valued” is using soft power. Play Four: ask questions instead of giving direct orders. Based on their hard skills credentials, supervisors believe they have super vision, so they can tell people what to do.  One brain's output, no matter how good, is still only producing a narrow sliver of ideas. Actually the further up the chain of command you fly, the more distant you become from the action and informed perspectives.  Engaging people in the front line, through valuing their input, produces outperformance. Don't miss it – the crowdsourcing of ideas from the team is a soft power play that pays off.    The end is nigh for those organisations who don't introduce Professor Nye's soft power play into their leadership armory.  As we say in Japan, “time flies like an arrow”, so let's all commit to going “soft” and persuading and attracting our way to success. Action Steps Start with the WHY before explaining the What and the How Become a daily Theory Xer, seeking out the positives in your people Ensure your people feel they are genuinely valued every time, all the time Become an “ask” rather than “tell” leader Commit to persuade and attract your way to success THE Cutting Edge Japan Business Show is here to help you succeed in Japan.  Subscribe on YouTube, share it with your family, friends and colleagues, become a regular. The Driver is someone who wants to get things done right away. They aren't impatient so much as they are eager to get right to work and tackle their tasks diligently. The Analytical person on the other hand works at a much slower clip because they want to make sure their ducks are all in a row, that all of the relevant data is squared away, and that no surprises crop up. Thirdly, Amiable types of communicators truly value conversation and friendliness and won't open up and communicate effectively until they feel comfortable enough. Opening meetings with conversations and chit-chat is the best way to communicate with this style of person. Lastly, the Social type is more spontaneous. A person with this communication style tells you what's on their mind and is expressive in their decision-making process. Maybe a little impulsive and emotion-driven, but in the best way, of course! [#2 Start Meetings With a Client-First Mentality] Like Matthew states, starting meetings by addressing the needs of the client first has made all the difference in communicating with his clients in an effective way. Start with the phrase: “How can I be of most assistance?” Or a variation of the same phrase. The emphasis should be on turning attention towards the client first, as this will help ameliorate any nagging concern and thus open up a more concentrated meeting thereafter. A follow up question of, “anything else on your mind?” is always a great addition to the aforementioned phrase. [#3 Ask the Client About Their Most Pressing Expense(s)] Micah says a great way to gauge the priorities (and subsequently adjust to them) is to ask what the next 1-2 months of cash flow will be most directed towards. If it's a vacation or a trip versus tuition for a grandchild, then Micah has the information he needs to communicate further with clients. [#4 “Can You Tell me More About That?”] One of the most effective questions in the book, asking if clients can further articulate an expense or a plan can initiate a positive dynamic of trust, as well as unlock information that would have stayed put if not addressed. ---- Matt and Micah's Action Steps Start small! Take your top 10 clients and figure out their communication styles. Next step is to go internal and attribute a style to yourself and your team members. Be honest and take ownership! Lastly, Matthew suggests buying The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman, which is not only for learning how to effectively communicate with your spouse, but for broadening your mind on the whole spectrum of communication styles and methods out there. THE Leadership Japan Series by Dale Carnegie Training Tokyo, Japan

This Year It Will Be Different   The new calendar year is always a time for reflection and goal setting.  We get a few days off and can put some distance between ourselves and the everyday bustle and minutiae of the business.  This affords an opportunity to think more strategically about where we want to be over the next few years and how to get there.  We look at our waist line and think we should strike a blow for freedom and do something about removing that fatty liver build up. Start small.  Sounds a bit defeatist doesn't it.  “No, I can do it…!”.  Well going by track record so far, why would that idea be true?  Let's try a different approach this year, aim lower to start off with and build up the tempo.  We know that to change our results, we need to change what we are currently doing.  We also know we are creatures of habit and the current crop of habits is delivering what we are currently getting.  Ergo, we need to create some fresh habits.  New habits will generate new behaviour and that in turn will create better ways of working and living. This Principle says that 20% of our efforts produce 80% of our results.  If we push it even harder, then 4% of our efforts yields 64% of our results.  Let's consider what that 4% might consist of? Also compared to achieving nothing in particular, getting 64% seems pretty good.   Don't try and eat the elephant in one gulp. Action Steps Start small and scale up. Look for the four percenters and start there. Don't try and crash or crash through Measure and track progress

Find out and get into the anti-inflammatory diet and nutrition with Julie Daniluk as she shares her discovery and understanding of the healing powers of food through her own healing recovery. Enjoy! Topics Discussed in this Episode: Food intolerance testing versus food elimination Favorite sweeteners and sweeteners to avoid How inflammation affects hormonal health Favorite nutrients for hormonal health Some of the biggest nutrition misconceptions What to cook for someone who you’re trying to convert to a healthy lifestyle Healthy on-the-go snacks and the anti-inflammatory diet Key Takeaways: Don’t be surprised if the very foods that you crave constantly are your biggest allergy foods because of the overexposure. When we eat something that we’re addicted to and we’re allergic to, we end up with a massive surge of adrenalin because adrenalin is our natural way of compensating for the allergic reaction. Gluten is never an 80/20 rule. You’re either on gluten or off gluten. Because the danger of just being off gluten five days a week is you’re just torturing yourself but you’re not getting any of the benefits. A balanced diet is really working in that zone of 33% fat, 33% protein, 33% carbohydrate. If you have the accountability of a fitness tracker and you really share that journey with somebody, it’s a 100% game changer. Action Steps: Start journaling what you’re eating and discover what foods make you feel amazing and what foods you need to let go of. Check if cane sugar is your kryptonite. Eat an anti-inflammatory menu. Double down on your efforts to stay off of gluten for a minimum of two months to see whether it does have an impact on helping you with whatever health issue you have. Get a sense of the hidden sources of sucrose and other sugars in the food that you’re eating. Steer clear of the pre-prepared salad dressings that have soya oil or canola oil as the primary ingredient. Make sure you’re using real olive oil. Be careful of fake olive oil that’s being sold in conventional grocery stores. Julie said: “Food addicts make great nutritionists because you have the compassion to be in the shoes of your client… then they can have hope that breaking up with sugar is possible for them because, on the other side of that, you’re breaking out of food prison.” “When you’re addicted to food, you’re in food prison. And when you’re in a diet, you’re in food prison. But what we want is to move you into that place of freedom.” Thanks for listening! Whether you’re new to essential oils or have been using them for quite some time, this episode is packed with valuable information that you wouldn’t want to miss! Dr. Mariza Snyder shares the best way to use essential oils for hormone balance, how we can use essential oils to manage stress, and so much more! Topics Discussed in this Episode: The best way to use essential oils for hormone balance How we can use essential oils to lower our stress and cortisol levels and support adrenal function The must-have essential oils when we are traveling How to differentiate a high-quality essential oil from a low-quality one The areas at home that we can use essential oils to reduce the toxic load Key Takeaways: One of the first steps to really get radical self-healing is self-awareness, where we are able to really become aware of how we are feeling, whether it’s feeling drained, exhausted, energized, or overly stressed, and how we begin to implement changes. Essential oils are able to bridge the gap between wanting healthy behaviors and habits and actually doing them. Essential oils are not synthetic hormones, but they work with our adrenals and they work with helping to balance that interplay between estrogen and progesterone. Dr. Mariza Snyder’s hormone blend: Place 10 drops of Clary Sage + 8 drops of Lavender + 8 drops of Geranium + 4 drops of Bergamot + 4 drops of Ylang-Ylang in a 10ml roller, and top it off with whatever carrier oil you prefer. Essential oils are the ultimate swap for the toxic products that you have at home as long as you have a couple of other key ingredients. For green cleaning, that’s just baking soda, vinegar, distilled water and essential oils.   Action Steps: Start your day with a morning ritual and end with an evening ritual. Lower your stress levels by doing the “power of the pause” breathwork with a combination of lavender and bergamot essential oils until you get back to a calm state of being. Swap your toxic products at home for safer DIY products using essential oils. Dr. Mariza Snyder said: “What I had found is that oils really made a lot of those healthy habits fun and rewarding and joyful, and that was awesome to me. And not only was it just a fun experience, but they really have these beautiful chemical constituents…” “A good friend of mine and one of my favorite aromatherapists and a mentor to me used to say, ‘You know what? The cool thing about essential oils is that you literally get to choose your mood. You can choose the way that you want to feel because of oils.’” Thanks for listening! Journey to 7 Figures
How Unbounce Grew to $17M in Revenue and 14,000 Customers

Oli Gardner shares how Unbounce used content marketing and partnerships to grow their website traffic to 800,000 monthly visitors and how focusing on the right customer helped them grow to 14k users and $17M in revenue. In this episode you will learn: What gave them the idea to come up with Unbounce [01:34] What they did to be able to start the company [03:20] How Oli handled the marketing side of things [04:09] How they started generating awareness of their content to build an email list [07:17] What was Oli’s content strategy [09:31] How they launched the company [12:14] How they got to their first 100 customers [14:44] Unbounce’s partnership with MailChimp and how they benefited from it [15:05] How to choose the companies to partner with [16:38] How long it took Unbounce to hit seven figures and the things they had to overcome to get there  [17:52] How they got people to join their webinars [20:09] What struggles they had to overcome before hitting seven figures in 2012 [23:25] How they built their product for their ideal client [25:28] How they figured out who their ideal client is [28:03] How they make sure they’re targeting the right people now [31:09] How Unbounce keeps taking things to the next level [33:36] The one thing that had the biggest impact on the growth of Unbounce [38:51] Key Takeaways: Integrations like the one Unbounce had with MailChimp are the kind of things that put you on the path to being a “super sticky useful tool”. When working with other companies, culture fit is important. It is important to find the right partnerships. Don’t fall prey to the big companies who pay big bucks asking you to design things for them. Rather, know who your ideal client is. It’s not the job of your content to convert customers. Its job is to build domain authority for your website. Relentless focus on growth can sometimes be a problem. When you start growing, be careful on the hiring side. Action Steps: Start blogging at the beginning stages of your company and build an audience for when you launch your product. Come up with a solid lead magnet. Find a company that you can partner with, that already has traffic or has similar customers to you, and figure out ways that you can collaborate. Keep evolving the type of content and the type of things you are doing. Consider doing webinars with partner companies and incorporate a relevant demo of your product. Find ways of getting your ideal customer but also design an experience that communicates who you’re not for. If you’re attracting the wrong people, all your metrics die. Get advisers for your company by establishing relationships with people you respect who are in a similar field. Don’t be afraid to ask. Partner with the right people so that you’re building in the right direction to help your customers scale. Mix your marketing, 50% lead generation, and 50% awareness. Oli says: “The small dollar changes at the beginning become big ones at the end.” “Do whatever you can to not doubt yourself.” More from Oli Gardner: Oli’s Twitter Oli’s Email Unbounce Sponsor link 14-day Free Trial to LeadQuizzes Thank you for listening!
