In this message we see the principles for how to read, understand and apply Old Covenant Commands in the life and faith of a New Covenant Believer in Christ. From the First Command we learn that, because God alone is God and thus worthy of all worship and allegiance, we must submit to Him alone our full and unmixed loyalty, loving and obeying Him in all things. I. Read the Command in it's Original Old Testament Context vv 1-3 II. Consider What the Command Reveals about God that Never Changes Rm 15:4, etc III. Apply the Command in Light of the New Testament Fulfillment in Christ 1 Cor 8:4-6
“We love because He first loved us.” – 1 John 4:19Those six words beautifully capture the foundation of our relationship with God—we can only love and give because He first gave to us. Today, Sharon Epps joins us for a fascinating discussion on the generosity of women in the Bible.Sharon Epps is the President of Kingdom Advisors, FaithFi's parent organization. Kingdom Advisors serves the broad Christian financial industry by educating and equipping professionals to integrate biblical wisdom and financial expertise. The Women Who Provided for JesusLuke 8:1-3 records an often-overlooked detail:“Soon afterward, He went through cities and villages, proclaiming and bringing the Good News of the Kingdom of God. And the twelve were with Him, and also some women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities: Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out, and Joanna, the wife of Chuza, Herod's household manager, and Susanna, and many others, who provided for them out of their means.”This passage tells us three key things:These women had been healed by Jesus—physically, spiritually, or both. They supported Jesus' ministry financially out of their own wealth.Their generosity was a response of gratitude for what Christ had done for them. One of these women, Joanna, stands out in particular.Joanna: A Woman Transformed by JesusJoanna was the wife of Chuza, King Herod's household manager. Thus, she likely had significant wealth and lived a royal lifestyle. Yet, despite her status, she was weakened when she met Jesus. She needed healing, and her first act of generosity was actually receiving—not giving. This is a powerful reminder: Before we can give, we must first receive. What Does This Teach Us?Money alone doesn't solve all problems—Joanna had wealth but still needed Christ.Generosity starts with receiving—not just financially, but in all aspects of life.God uses people from all walks of life—even a woman in Herod's court—to fund Jesus' ministry.Receiving Before We GiveJoanna's story reminds us of an important biblical truth: we can only give what we have first received.1 Corinthians 4:7 asks:“What do you have that you did not receive?”The answer? Nothing.Everything—our breath, skills, love, wisdom, and financial resources—is a gift from God. We receive, then we give, creating a virtuous cycle of generosity that mirrors God's own generosity toward us.Three Key Questions to Consider:What have I received from Christ that enables me to give?Is my giving safe or sacrificial? What does my giving reveal about how well I've received from God?These questions challenge us to shift our perspective—to see giving not as an obligation but as an overflow of what we have already been given. The Motivation Behind Joanna's GenerosityWhy did Joanna give so generously? Gratitude.Later, in Luke 24, we find Joanna at Jesus' empty tomb. She was among the women who encountered the angels, remembered Jesus' words, and ran to tell the apostles. Her journey shows a progression:She received healing from Jesus. She financially supported His ministry. She proclaimed His resurrection. Her generosity wasn't just about money—it was about devotion. She gave because she loved Jesus deeply.Lessons in GenerosityAs we reflect on Joanna's story, here are some key takeaways we can walk away with: 1. Generosity is a JourneyOur relationship with Christ fuels our generosity. The deeper our love for Him, the more naturally we want to give.2. We Must Receive Before We Can GiveWe often think about generosity in terms of money, but we also receive:Life itself—the breath in our lungs.Skills and abilities—talents that allow us to work and earn.Love from God and others—which shapes our generosity.3. Giving is an Act of WorshipJoanna's giving wasn't transactional—it was an expression of extravagant love for Jesus. She gave freely because she had freely received. As we reflect on Joanna's story, let's ask ourselves:Do I truly recognize that all I have is from God?Am I giving out of safety or sacrificial love?Does my giving reflect how well I've received from Christ? These questions can reshape our perspective on generosity, helping us move from obligation to joyful, faith-driven giving.Joanna's story reminds us that generosity is not about wealth—it's about the heart. As we receive from Christ, we are called to pass it on—whether through finances, service, or sharing the gospel.May we, like Joanna, be conduits of Christ's love, reflecting gratitude, devotion, and generosity in all we do.On Today's Program, Rob Answers Listener Questions:I have a term life insurance policy that I got when we renovated our house a few years ago. In this episode, we dive into the concept of idolatry — a term often associated with ancient statues and temples, but one that remains just as relevant today. Building from last week's conversation on sin and the devil's deception, we'll explore how idolatry distorts our relationship with God and reshapes our identity.Together, we'll break down: • What idolatry really means according to the Bible, using Exodus 20:3-5 as our foundation. • Why God calls for exclusive worship and how His jealousy reflects His protective love. • How idols deceive us by promising satisfaction, control, or security — only to lead to emptiness. • The dangers of redefining God in our image instead of reflecting His image as we were created to. • Practical examples of modern-day idolatry that Gen Z and college students often face, from social media obsession to relationship dependence, hustle culture, and self-made spirituality. We'll also confront how even good things — careers, relationships, and achievements — can become idols when we prioritize them over God. Plus, we'll end with a reflection activity to help you identify and surrender any “broken cisterns” in your life (Jeremiah 2:13).Reflection Questions to Consider: • What are you most unwilling to give up if God asks you to? • Where do you place your trust and security outside of God? • Are there areas where you justify disobedience in the name of comfort or control?Whether you're wrestling with subtle idols or seeking to grow in deeper devotion to Christ, this episode will challenge and encourage you to reclaim God's rightful place in your life.

In our last episode, we explored the tragic consequences of Achan's hidden sin in Joshua 7. But as we move into Joshua 8, we see a powerful truth unfold: God's judgment is never the final word—His mercy and restoration follow true repentance. In today's episode, we'll explore:God's encouragement to Israel after their defeat. The contrast between their approach to Jericho and Ai.How obedience leads to victory. The importance of remembering God's covenant.Let's dive into Joshua 8 and discover how God turns failure into fresh beginnings!1. A New Beginning After Defeat (Joshua 8:1-2)After Achan's sin was dealt with, God spoke to Joshua again: “Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” (Joshua 8:1)Notice the contrast—after Israel's failure, God immediately extends grace and reassures them.God instructs Joshua to attack Ai, but this time with His guidance and strategy.Key Takeaway: God's discipline isn't meant to destroy us but to prepare us for restoration.2. The Difference Between Ai and Jericho (Joshua 8:3-17)Unlike Jericho, where God gave victory through supernatural means, Ai required strategy and engagement.Israel sets an ambush—this time, they listen to God's specific instructions. The enemy is lured out of the city, thinking Israel is retreating.Lesson: God's methods aren't always the same. He wants us to depend on Him afresh for each battle.3. Obedience Leads to Victory (Joshua 8:18-29)At God's command, Joshua raises his javelin, signaling the ambush. The city is overtaken, and this time, the plunder is allowed. What Achan stole in secret, Israel now receives legitimately through obedience.Point to Consider: What we try to grasp in disobedience, God often wants to give us in His perfect timing.4. Renewing the Covenant (Joshua 8:30-35)After the victory, Joshua builds an altar and reads the entire law before Israel. Why? Because true success isn't just about victory—it's about walking rightly with God.Israel is reminded that their strength comes from oFaith That Challenges. Conversations that Matter. Laughs included. In this podcast episode, we cover the essentials for dashboards. If you're feeling overwhelmed by the terminology, technologies, and the need to demonstrate ROI when developing your first dashboard for your healthcare organization, you're not alone. Our goal is to set a baseline of understanding so that when you tackle yours, you'll know what to look out for and the right questions to ask. What We Cover: Terminology Matters: Dashboards and reports are often used interchangeably, but they serve different purposes. Dashboards provide real-time data, while reports offer a snapshot in time. Don't Forget about Patient Privacy: Before diving into developing a dashboard, make sure your data tools are cleaned up to protect patient privacy. This includes removing any potential protected health information (PHI) or personally identifiable information. Start with a Measurement Plan: Begin by understanding your organization's business objectives, strategic plan, and the key metrics needed to report success to leadership or the board. We'll give specific examples of things to track and how to measure ROI. Data Visualization: The fun part comes after your measurement plan is in place. We discuss the difference between Domo, Looker and Tableau. Understanding Data Feeds: Be aware of how your data is being pulled—whether it's through a straight data feed or a more sophisticated data lake. Understand which you should focus on. Questions to Consider: ● What is the timeliness or refresh rate of your data? ● Are you working with a straight data feed, or does your data involve backend calculations? ● What are your data sources? ● Have you established a solid measurement plan? This episode is designed for those just starting to dip their toes into dashboards. Whether you're working with an in-house team or an agency, these insights will help with the development of your dashboard. (Sorry this arrives a tad late. You've heard about Gracie?)Trying valiantly to keep up with the good stuff on Substack and other sites and scribblers recommended a dozen articles ago, I came across this passage in a respected writer's recent piece:“The signals cannot be more clear and yes, I am growing weary of waiting for the nuclear exchange, the EMP attack, the fiscal collapse to address it, even though I know it will take one of these events to spark the revolt. And no, this is not a screed against the government, not the legitimate one, where laws are properly made and followed, especially by the government itself, where justice is a matter of law, where taxes are only used to fund existential and defensive wars, where the offices in Washington DC control only a few peripheral issues. But that is not the government we have, I endorse that one, the one that existed before communists came to operate all levers of power and propaganda.”It's not that I respectfully disagree with the writer's endorsement of a previous state of American governance, “the legitimate one”; I can't comprehend it.It took only 12 years for FedGov to stray from the path of righteous Constitutional order, required as written and sworn to uphold by those administering its daily operation. Some of the same Founding Dads who signed the Declaration supported the Alien and Sedition Acts of 1778. The slow drift away from the principles of governance gradually picked up speed. By the time the War of Northern Aggression broke out, marginalization of the constitutionally restricted FedGov was picking up speed with Lincoln's foot on the accelerator. Then came Woodrow Wilson (no relation), the Federal Reserve, Income Taxes, the 16th and 17th Amendments. The Constitutional chains binding the FedGov were breaking. Eventually, FDR arrived, and FedGov's downward trajectory became faster and faster. And now, here we are, just a couple hundred-plus years later, teetering on the precipice every other form of government has faced since every other form of government came. And went.America's sad state of being notwithstanding, what constitutes a “legitimate government”? Even if most people claim to be the “governed”, what about those who never “consented”? Is there an enforced obligation to obey the ‘rules of government'? If so, how is that Freedom? Who wrote these rules, anyhow? How did “government” come to be a “legitimate” entity with a monopoly on the force required to see to it the rules are obeyed”? “Our elected representatives!” is the standard reply, but that seriously neglects the reality of decades of corrupt government activities by equally corrupt politicians who perverted the system for their own ends.Where did this myth of absolute assumed ‘authority” come from? Couldn't any group of guys get together somewhere and write their own declaration of independence - from Washington? That would be treason. Says who? Says the guys who wrote the original and then came out with the rules in their Constitution. Romantic revisionist American history aside, it's what we were taught growing up in various venues for 248 years; a little late to set things straight when it's been so thoroughly ingrained. Longing for the ‘legitimate government' that never was only adds to the frustration of pursuing a pragmatic solution.Consider:What is the nature of freedom? It is an unassailable natural claim against all others, including the government. Stated differently, it is your unconditional right to think as you wish, to say what you think, to publish what you say, to associate with whoever wishes to be with you no matter their number, to worship or not, to defend yourself, to own and use property as you see fit, to travel where you wish, to purchase from a willing seller, to be left alone. And to do all this without a government permission slip. What is the nature of government? It is the negation of freedom. Just consider recent headlines. Can the Government break the law in order to enforce it? It even has a name for the practice: Lawfare. Hasn't this made Government become a law unto itself? That is the death of the Rule of Law.Do you agree with the following quotes?George Washington: “Government is not reason; it is not eloquence-it is force! Like fire it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master; never for a moment should it be left to irresponsible action.” “Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men, even when they exercise influence and not authority, still more when you add the tendency or the certainty of corruption by authority.” Lord Acton"That government is best which governs least" Henry David Thoreau. So Government is force, the negation of freedom. The monopoly on Force - Absolute Power – is the lifeblood of Government. It corrupts absolutely, bringing us the thoroughly corrupted manifestation now thriving in Washington, DC, and spreading to the States through various green-mail programs and NGOs with billionaire backing. According to Thoreau, since the best government governs least, no government should be our ideal, not the dream of a ‘legitimate government' that maintains its monopoly on Force and, despite its best of intentions found in the Declaration, is destined to become just as indecent, anti-freedom and corrupt as the Swamp and Deep State that rules over us today.Should reasonable people really look forward to the arrival of the next new government? Other than Hope, what basis may one use to conclude that “the next one” after the next revolution will be the salvation of mankind?Freedom is the absence of a ruling class. You cannot be free with someone ruling over you; they are complete opposites. Freedom can only be obtained by removing the people claiming to be above you. There is no other way to be free than freeing ourselves from a ruling class. As long as there are people who can dictate what you can and cannot do, you will always be enslaved by them, no matter how many privileges they allow you to have. There is no such thing as a good and righteous ruling class because the very nature of a ruling class over someone is to dominate them.It would be better to work on an alternative. Considering Freedom, constructive guidance comes from Lysander Spooner.“It is self-evident that no number of men, by conspiring and calling themselves a government, can acquire any rights whatever over other men, or other men's property, which they had not before as individuals. And whenever any number of men, calling themselves a government, do anything to another man or his property, which they had no right to do as individuals, they thereby declare themselves trespassers, robbers, or murderers according to the nature of their acts.”When the time comes, as it surely will, let's be prepared to construct a better form of government than we have today. Removing the word “government” would be a good start.BWThanks for reading (or listening) this far.For those who didn't get my beginning reference to Gracie, I'll try to post some pics of our 15-week-old English Cream Golden Retriever, currently terrorizing her new home by destroying shoes, furniture and sundry items while managing to position herself in every inconvenient spot available with no regard for potential injury. Not of her, of us! But she's a cutie, and too quickly, the “Cute Puppy” phase will be in the scrapbooks and photo albums, and we'll regret they didn't last longer – minor injuries and damaged property notwithstanding! Anger phobia is an extreme fear of anger in oneself and others. It can lead to avoidance of conflict, which can damage relationships and prevent personal growth. Key Points Anger is a normal human emotion, but it can be harmful if it is not expressed in a healthy way. There are two main components of anger phobia: judgment and fear. Judgment can lead us to believe that anger is always bad, while fear can lead us to avoid it altogether. Both judgment and fear can be based on past experiences, such as being raised in a household where anger was not expressed in a healthy way. It is important to challenge our judgments about anger and understand the underlying fears. Once we understand our fears, we can start to develop healthier ways of dealing with anger. Questions to Consider What is your relationship with anger? What do you think about anger in yourself and others? What fears do you have about anger? How do your fears about anger affect your relationships? What can you do to develop healthier ways of dealing with anger? Action Steps Start by paying attention to your thoughts and feelings about anger. Notice when you are judging anger or feeling afraid of it. Challenge your judgments about anger. Ask yourself if they are true. Explore your fears about anger. What do you fear will happen if you express or experience anger from others? Develop healthy ways of expressing and dealing with anger. This may involve learning new communication skills or seeking professional help. Conclusion By understanding our judgments and fears about anger, we can develop healthier ways of dealing with this emotion. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/becky-smith0/message

Are you struggling to eat healthy in way that lasts? The problem is that you are dieting. But, not necessarily in the way that you think. Most people aren't dieting based on what they're eating. They're dieting based on how they're thinking. Consider: What are your current reasons for making healthy food decisions? If you're struggling to eat healthy long-term, your reasons are likely based on “shoulds”. This mindset is what makes healthy eating unsustainable for you. It's what turns any version of healthy eating into a diet. Which means, to eat healthy sustainably you need to change your mindset. You will need to begin making eating decisions based on “wants”. Know This: It's not what you're eating (or not eating) that is necessarily restrictive. It's your mindset around it. In this episode, I'm sharing how to know if you're in a dieting mindset and how you can begin transitioning to a permissive, fulfilling mindset with healthy eating. Questions to Consider: What do I need to prune? Is my strategy clear and actionable? Do I know what I need to do each day? What actions do I control?
Questions to Consider: What thinking and beliefs do I need to rework or lay aside? Where do I want to go/what do I want to achieve? Why do I want it? When do I want it by?
Consider: What is the massive result that you want to create on the other side of healthy eating? Maybe it's weight loss, confidence in your body, or enjoying food without guilt. Now, picture what you believe will be required for you to create that massive result permanently. If you're like most, you'll think that hard work and sacrifice will be required. Which leaves you waiting for the “perfect time” to start creating this massive result for yourself. The truth is, massive results aren't created from large investments of your time, energy, or focus. Massive results are created from small investments over time. It's creating long-term change from a long-term approach that doesn't require hard work or sacrifice. In this episode, I'm sharing how you can begin creating the massive results you want with food and body, in a way that creates permanent results. You'll learn how your small healthy eating investments over time will inevitably create a massive return in your results. People have been talking about "The Positive Aging Movement" for more than a dozen years, particularly since the first conference in 2007, when the oldest Boomers were turning 61 and approaching the "traditional" retirement age. With a longer life expectancy, notions about aging have been shifting. This year the oldest Boomers are turning 76, and the youngest is now turning 58. We're witnessing the "graying" of our population. In this interview, we'll focus on a broad view of the Positive Aging Movement: How it started, how it's been changing, what it's accomplished, and where it's going. Ok, so here we are again in the summertime!! It is a beautiful time of year. Kids are home, enjoying a nice break from school. It's time for them to relax and chill. But what happens when their chillin involves hours and hours of screen time each day? How much is too much? Do we as parents ban screen time completely? Or limit it? Do we keep them super busy with other things? Let's dive in and see what we can figure out.Consider how you manage your families technology:Every family is different. Your schedules are different. Consider: What works well and what is currently working? Model the technology restrictions you expect from your kids. Screen time limits, will you limit by the day or by the week? Will they have things they have to do before they get on? Setting priorities for the day, instead of monitoring minutes, could be the secret to summer happiness, thanks to less time spent nagging, pulling your hair out, and feeling guilty. Each kid is different. Some of your teenagers may have a job, sports, or camps. Their downtime might be screen time. Seek Balance: As you consider a new strategy for managing summer screen time over the summer, it's important to seek balance. An outright ban on technology in the home can be frustrating to every family member. Is it screen time or downtime? Know the difference between active and passive screen time: Are they just playing a non-productive game or watching a mindless tv show or YouTube videos? Or are they learning something? Important to know the difference and recognize it with our kids. It's easy to see them on a screen and tell them to get off, but what are they really doing? Search out ways that they can learn on their screen. That's a win-win. Be ok with the occasional binge. Sometimes our kids are busy from morning to night and others where they have total down time. That's ok for them to be able to chill for a day. Linkshttps://techsavvymama.com/2017/05/managing-summer-screen-time.htmlLemonade moment of the week:The boys are away at camp. Derek finishes this week's teaching by looking at how we should respond to God's extravagant love. Consider: What does your worship consist of? How much time do you spend with God? What can you do for His people that is out of the ordinary? If the Holy Spirit touches your heart to do something, respond extravagantly, no matter what the cost. Let Him see your love.
So many of us have early family scripts about money. Do you think money is good - or just a necessary evil to survive? Do you think more money would make you happier? Is the only purpose of money to be able to retire? Here I have a conversation with Derrick Kinney about his new book, Good Money Revolution - How to Make More Money to do More Good. Questions: 1. Isn't the American Dream - make enough to “retire” and then you don't have to continue the rat race of making money? 2. I know it's nice to be generous but won't giving more just delay my ability to retire? 3. Is there really such a thing as a “fixed income” or does everyone have the ability to make more? 4. Why do most religions seem to imply that having money is unGodly? Get direct links to the resources mentioned on this podcast, including Derrick Kinney's new book, Good Money Revolution as well as my free worksheet on Investing In Yourself, in the podcast show notes at https://www.48days.com/is-it-bad-to-want-more-money/ Summary Points to Consider: What was your family's money story? So what is your money story going to be? Are you a creator of money? Are you “living well” and “giving well”? Is there a cause you believe in - that helps drive you to make money? Do you have the money mindset that opens the door for more? Point: Jesus told His church to go make disciples. In order to be obediently effective in this we must agree that a discipler to Jesus Christ must actively be a disciple of Jesus who is consistently being discipled in Jesus Christ. Scripture: Matthew 28:18-20; Luke 1:1-4 Questions: 1. Read Matthew 29:18-20. Are you being discipled right now? Explain. Further Discussion: Who is discipling you and what does that look like? Consider: If you aren't being discipled, who do you know who could disciple you? 2. Have you ever discipled anyone? If so, what did that look like? Explain. Further Discussion: What are some hesitations you have when it comes to discipleship? Consider: If you aren't discipling anyone, who do you know who you could disciple? 3. Why is discipleship so important? Explain. Further Discussion: What is at stake if every person in the church doesn't engage in discipleship - being discipled and making disciples? Consider: What is at stake for you personally if you don't engage in discipleship? Explain. 4. Sermon Application: Conviction: How did the sermon (or this Scripture) challenge you personally? Be specific. Character: What about you needs to change in light of what you've learned? Be honest and specific. Competence: What is your plan for being discipled and making disciples? Share with the group what you are going to do, how you are going to do it, and when you are going to do it. Leaders – Write everyone's plan down in a journal and come back to it next week during breakouts.

#78 Roshelle from Yotpo Talks Engagement - The New Way to Improve Customer Lifetime Value Is your brand-customer communication a bit lackluster? Are you struggling to build a close relationship with your customers? This episode is all about customer retention: establishing, building, and maintaining trust. Roshelle Savdie is the Associate Product Marketing Manager of Yotpo, an e-commerce marketing platform that offers a full suite of solutions for customer reviews, visual marketing, loyalty, referrals, and SMS marketing. Following a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a Master's in Economics, Roshelle sought a role in the study of human behavior. She found her calling at Yotpo. As a specialist in loyalty and referrals, Roshelle knows what customers care about. Tune in to hear Roshelle and our podcast host and CEO Daniel Budai discuss:✔️ Zero-Party Data: What is it and why is it important? ✔️ Why do e-commerce brands need engagement-based programs? ✔️ How to create a VIP program ✔️ Roshelle's advice for Q4 ✔️ Roshelle's marketing idols Zero-Party Data: What is it and why is it important? Zero-party data (otherwise known as permission-based marketing) refers to data that customers voluntarily give brands about themselves. It's not information that brands can acquire from different sources. Roshelle identifies two advantages to using zero-party data: Brands don't have to guess Collecting data directly from the source means that targeted marketing does not have to be based on assumptions or guesses. This allows brands to better communicate with their customers and personalize their shopping journey. 2. Develops trust in your brand No one likes it when their data is collected and used without their explicit permission. Being clear about data collection and opting for zero-party data is great for building trust. “You may ask yourself, ‘Why do they give this information so freely?' It's because they want to be part of your brand, and they trust your brand.” Zero-party data reject invasive marketing tactics and instead focuses on creating a better experience for the customer. Why do e-commerce brands need engagement-based programs? Engagement-based programs are evolving. Roshelle stresses that engagement-based programs differ from rewards-based programs in that they're not transactional. Instead, engagement-based programs focus on relationships. It's not enough to give away discount codes once in a while. Customers want experiences that make them feel part of the brand. Gen Z consumers in particular engage with emotional rewards. Princess Polly, one of Yotpo's clients created a VIP tier system. If a customer is in a certain tier and buys a certain amount, they're featured in Princess Polly's social media. Another reward included exclusive access to a VIP Facebook group, encouraging customers to buy further into the brand. Their best reward so far was backstage tickets to a music festival. Roshelle recalls another brand that gives customers in their highest VIP tier early access to products and sales. This is great for building that brand-customer bond and providing an exclusivity incentive. How to create a VIP program So when should e-commerce owners begin setting up VIP tiers? Roshelle says “early on”, even if they're not going to implement it right away. VIP tiers and loyalty programs require a lot of strategic planning. Consider: What do your incentives mean to your customers? What does it mean for your brand to give away these incentives? Do your incentives make financial sense? How are you going to make sure that your customers feel valued? How are your incentives going to develop an emotional customer-brand connection? VIP tiers are fantastic for increasing engagement, brand community, and customer lifetime value (CTV). Therefore: “It's never too early to have VIP tiers. They power your business much faster than if you don't have them.” Roshelle's advice for Q4 Roshelle's number one piece of advice is: Build a strategy for Q1. You're going to acquire lots of new customers during Q4, that's great. Now you need to focus on retention. Roshelle's marketing idols In two words: authentic marketers. “I really admire anyone who is on top of all the new trends, people, technology, but are keeping the essence of their brand and who they are. Anyone who has figured that out has all my respect. It's really, really hard.” Follow Roshelle on LinkedIn and visit Yotpo.comfor more advice on increasing customer lifetime value and taking your brand to the next level. What is the one thing you need in your business this year as a Christian woman business owner or content creator? While much of what you're hearing this time of year is about setting goals, dreaming, and planning for your business, I want to share with you something that I believe will make a big difference for you. It's something that is absolutely necessary as a Christian business owner, and you won't hear it from many people: discernment. Discernment is necessary for us as believers because there is so much out there that sounds good, but may actually be harmful. For the video teaching I did about discernment, click here. 3 Ways to Practice Discernment in Your Business This Year: 1. Who you are following and taking advice from You don't have to only take business advice from Christians. But you need to be willing to discern when there are practices or recommendations that do not line up with your faith. Ask yourself: Who are you listening to podcasts? Who are you following on social? What types of things are they recommending? Does the majority of what they are saying or teaching line up with your values? Or is a significant portion going against your faith? When it comes to biz advice, be picky. 2. Types of work or clients you take on If you are a service provider or coach or consultant, it's very important to use discernment about the type of work or clients you take on. It's helpful to pre-decide about this, and one of the best ways to do this is to outline your values. Consider: What are your guiding values in your business? Are these communicated on your social media, your website, etc? Secondly, remember you don't have to say yes to clients. You can turn down work. It may be awkward or uncomfortable, but I promise it is better when you do it upfront rather than wait. I learned the hard way on this.. I took on clients where it wasn't a good fit… I had a gut feeling, but I said yes anyway. Then I ended up feeling icky about some of the work I was doing. This is not a good place to be. So I want you to get clear on your values; make sure they are communicated on your content; then practice discernment when meeting with potential clients, and be willing to say no when necessary. 3. Where to focus your own business efforts Finally, you need discernment about where to focus your own business efforts. If you are anything like me, you may have lots of possibilities and skills you could use. Or lots of ideas about products and programs you could create. But you need to ask God for wisdom and discernment about where to focus. Because here's the truth that I know, but hate admitting: you cannot do all the things and do them all well. You can do a few things and do them well. And that means some things have to wait and some you have to completely stop doing. Resources that God provides for us to grow in discernment: The good news is that God provides us with resources that will help us grow in this area. You can find show notes for Episode 159 at https://transformingmission.org/podcast Each month throughout 2021, the podcast will focus on one theme. Episode 159 sets the foundation for everything that follows with a conversation around purpose. Courage and Purpose We begin with the question, “Why is knowing your purpose essential to being a courageous leader?” This question helps us point to a bigger truth that our purpose is tied to who you are, that is, your identity. To clarify, no, we’re not talking about wealth, status, or power in terms of “who you are.” Knowing your purpose stems from self-awareness (hint-hint, a future theme) and being able to live out your purpose. A phrase you’ll hear us say a lot in 2021 is this: who you are is how you lead. And, until you understand who and whose you are, it will be a challenge to identify and focus on your purpose. Purpose and Conflict Purpose grounds us. It centers us. It sets our direction when conflict arises. When there is a lack of clarity around an organizational purpose, conflict often arises. For a conflict to be generative and innovative, it needs to come from a place of connection to our purpose. When there is a disconnect between your individual purpose and the organizational purpose, there is probably a lack of integrity as well. Adaptability, Nuances, Fear and Rest Further, we explore how adaptability, staying nimble, and not being rigid help us stay grounded in our purpose while continuing to grow. Related, consider how nuances and holding the tension of two different perspectives can be clarifying for our purpose and next steps. The final two things we discuss are fear and rest. Courageous leaders recognize fear is a part of leadership. You might get butterflies in your stomach every day and still, they don’t allow fear to hold them back from pursuing their purpose. Finally, when it comes to rest, remember this: the world keeps going when you stop. If it doesn’t you haven’t been leading people, you’ve built an empire around your personality. Questions to Consider What is your purpose? What do you need to reset on a monthly and weekly basis to stay focused on your purpose?
Faculties and Desire (3): Will Power Ayin Beis Volume 1, Discourse 13, Chapter 51 p. 89-91 Short Summary: The essential power of desire transmits to the faculties and organs. It thus authoritatively controls them and their movement. Long Summary: Unlike the faculties which transmit only a diminished reflection of themselves to the other faculties (the mind itself rests in the brain; only its outer impact manifests in, say, the arms movements), the desire (which has no container) transmits its essential power, undiminished, to the faculties. [In the next chapter he qualifies this by saying that the desire also transmits not its essence, but a reflection, yet without gradations]. Desire thus controls the faculties through rule and authority -- through imposition, not through applying itself to communicating with the faculties. Unlike the mind which also controls the faculties, but only in a form of an integrated energy (ohr pnimi), which applying itself to the emotions -- educating and training them to follow the mind's guidance. The mind with its humility (bittul) also has the ability to tame the emotions (in one of two ways; either it weakens an emotional impulse to follow the minds lead, or its bittul automatically quells the emotions),but this is only possible when the emotions are receptive to the mind, not if they are at overwhelming intensity. Because the way the faculties work is through having a relationship with each other (derech hislabshus), not through force and imposition. Desire, on the other hand, has no "close" relationship with the faculties; being a higher and more powerful force, it subjugates them to follow its interests. This is even more apparent in desire's ability to suppress the faculties: The intellect can limit a faculties expression, but not suppress it entirely. Whereas desire can entirely suppress the faculties (as well as entirely reveal them). For example, Abraham who suppressed his natural love for his only child when he brought Isaac to the akeidah, due to his total commitment to the divine will. The same with mesiras nefesh (giving one's life for G-d), which requires imposition, either by entirely suppressing all of one's faculties and not reckoning with any self-interest, or by an increased revelation of all the faculties sensing that for everything is worth it for G-dliness. This also explains the reason why desire controls movement in the entire body, and why the organs themselves cannot move on their own (without a desire), though they are alive and have the power to move. Even spontaneous movement, even while asleep, is due to the desire's triggering of the nerves, leaving an impression even during sleep (we also see that when you set your desire to something before going to sleep effects you also during sleep), which is why man is responsible for his actions even during sleep. So why is it that the the body's movement is dependent on desire, and not propelled by its own vitality (as we see from the disease called "maniya" in which the organs are perfectly fine, but the desire to trigger movement has left the person). Answer: The life energy that sustains the faculties is an integrated energy (which is commensurate to the faculties) which only has the power to give them vitality; desire, because it is an essential energy (beyond the faculties), has the force and power to compel the organs to move, as well as to open up new channels of intellect (one should study where his heart desires, because desire compels the mind to open up, unlike intellectual exertion which refines the mind). Concepts: Desire. Faculties. Dominance. Persuasion. Transcendence (chapters 49-83) Points to Consider: What is the "maniya"disease referred to in this chapter?

Hello, my ah-mazing empty nest friend, When this episode goes live, I'll be in my car, traveling to see my daughter's senior art show, and then will bring her home for winter break a couple of days later. Honestly, when she headed off to campus, I did not have high expectations that her school would continue on-campus through Thanksgiving. Hello and Welcome to Warrior DIVAS Daily Devotional today’s verse is Psalm 119:64 The earth is filled with your love, Lord; teach me your decrees. When I was a little girl people would always ask me where I got my pretty blue eyes, I would giggle and say “Key-Mart”….Yes, everything back in the day came from K-Mart, but the truth was I had my daddy’s eye. My dad’s eyes are unique and have a unique perspective. He and I have often been able to see and recognize things that many overlook. He is an Army veteran and retired Police Officer. He taught me how to look for things. I remember one car ride where he was telling me about when you are looking for something in an open field, like a deer. You would lookout as far as you could see and then bring your gaze back toward you. This allowed your eyes to catch what you were looking for instead of your eyes chasing where the deer had been. Another thing my dad showed me was how to see people, not their circumstance. There were times when he would bring homeless people to our home, so they could get a shower, a hot meal, their clothes washed and even new clothes, and see if there were ways my mom and dad could help them find a safe place to stay. They would minister to these people in physically and spiritually. My daddy’s eye’s taught me to search the world from the perspective of my Heavenly Father. I don’t know about you but when I look at social media, the news and even sometimes driving down the road, it is hard to remember that the earth is filled with love. Right now all my physical eyes can see is pain, anger, and war. However when I take the time to look around with my Heavenly fathers eyes I am able to see things from a different perspective. I set my vision out towards heaven, and for all those out there running scared, and in pain, I am able to see them as they run into my view. I try not to see their actions, but see beyond to what is the root of their pain. One thing I have begin to realize is so many people just want to be accepted, to be seen, to be heard, mostly they just want to be LOVED. To many of my friends Christian and non-Christian are spreading their “Truth” to be correct from a worldly perspective, but my challenge to myself and each of you listening today is to be relationally right by sharing God’s truth of Love, Peace, Joy & HOPE! Questions to Consider? What eyes are you looking at the world through?Do you love the unlovable? How will you show love to those around you today?
Great NT Profiles Part 18Homework Tips Checklist for ParentsPHILIPRelated Scriptures:Ø Acts 6:1-6; 8:4-40; 21:7-9• Phillip, a second Hellenist in Acts, flees Jerusalem at the start of the persecution during which Stephen lost his life.• He is often called “The Evangelist” because he starts the process of converting Samaria.• He is ordered by an angel to take the road from Jerusalem to Gaza providing instruction to an Ethiopian court official.• Philip continues his missionary activities in Caesarea. His Name• Philip is a Greek name well known to both Jews and Christians in the first century. His Appointment• Philip was appointed, with Stephen, by the Twelve, to serve (diakonein) at table to ensure the Hellenist widow’s food distribution (Acts 6:1-6).Waiters or “Bankers”?• It is commonly thought that the Seven functioned as waiters and served meals to the Greek-speaking widows. The NIV, NASB, and NRSV even include the word “food” in their English translations of Acts 6:1, but there is no word for “food” in the Greek text.• A different scenario to that of serving meals is that the seven men in Acts 6 administered funds, not food, and that they served at banking tables rather than at dining tables. The Greek word trapezai used in Acts 6:2 can refer generally to four-legged tables or specifically to banking tables. His Convert• Simon Magus (Acts 9:9-24). The title begins to appear in the second-century Clementine Recognitions.• Simon is baptized on the basis of Philip’s teaching (8:13).• Simon will be rebuked by Peter for wanting to obtain Apostolic authority and power (8:22)Simon’s Heresy• Although in Acts Simon appears contrite (8:24), Irenaeus labels him the “father of all heresies.”• In Gnostic tradition, he is the consort of Helena (a Sophia-figure) whom he rescued from a brothel (symbolizing the prison of the flesh).• In church legend, he duels with Peter in Rome. Claiming the ability to fly, he launches himself, but Peter causes his downfall.Ethiopian Eunuch• Philip finds “a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under Candace the queen of the Ethiopians, who had charge of all her treasury, and who had come to Jerusalem to worship” (8:27).• We are told his name is Simeon Bachos by Irenaeus.• Simeon is also called the Niger (Acts 13:1)• He was a black Gentile from the lowest class, possibly a slave class.• Possibly taken away from his family and brought to the palace.• He was a eunuch made to be a servant.• He becomes a high-ranking court official.Reading Isaiah• Acts claims he read Isa. 53:7–8; of direct pertinence to the chamberlain’s situation is Isa56:4-5 (see also Wis. 3:13–14):• “To the eunuchs who keep my sabbaths, and who choose that which pleases me and strengthen my covenant, I will give to them … a monument [Hebrew: yad, that is, “phallus” or “seed”] and a name better than sons and daughters; I will give them an everlasting name that will not be cut off.”In Caesarea• According to Acts 21:8-9, Philip has a house in Caesarea where Paul and his companions stayed for a week.• Living there were Philip’s four virgin daughters, who had the gift of prophecy.Philip’s Daughters• Several early Christian writers mention Philip’s daughters.• Eusebius regarded their ministry as the benchmark for prophetic ministry in the early church.• He also quotes Papias who said people travelled great distances to visit these females.• They seemed to exercise their ministry freely and powerfully and were in high demand.Question to Consider• What do the roles of the seven Hellenistic and twelve Apostles suggest about church leadership?
In this interview, we glean some wisdom from Michele Carrillo who shares the convictions that have carried her through many uncertain times in her life: 9/11, Dengue Fever, a broken back, Hurricane Andrew, and more. Listen as we learn where to steer our anxious hearts in these uncertain times.About the GuestMichele Carrillo has served 30 years in the full-time ministry planting and leading churches in Mexico, Jamaica, Puerto Rico and across the US including New York, Florida, and California. Along with her husband Robert, she has raised three kids and loves oil and glass painting. She and Robert currently serve the Los Angeles Church of Christ. Episode NotesThis time in life is so revealing of how easy it is to put our hope in things other than God… in infrastructure, in our plans, etc. Consider: What are you letting linger in your heart? Be informed and wise, but don’t let it dominate your heart and mind. Fill your mind with things above: Don’t forget to focus your mind on GodHave deep and intentional quiet timesHebrews 10:22- Draw near to God with a sincere heart and with full assurance of what faith brings…What we set our hearts on TAKES EFFORTClinging to God, Meditating on Specific scriptures that minister to your current feelings and circumstance. Hebrews 10: 22-23 “Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful…”These are the times, these are the experiences, that really build our faith. Where do we start? Sit silently. Ask God to show you what you need. Try to figure out what is in your heart- if you feel anxious, take some time to really identify what it is that you’re most afraid of. Look up scriptures that address the fears or feelings you have and then meditate on those. Deuteronomy 4:7 & Matthew 1:23Jesus is Immanuel- God WITH us.We don’t need to “find God” right now— he IS with us! God is NEAR. He is already HERE for us in these times of uncertainty. An easy way to battle worry is with gratitude.“Worry refuses to share the heart with gratitude. One heartfelt “thank you” will suck the oxygen out of worry’s world.” - Max Lucado, Anxious For Nothing BookColossians 2:6-7 “So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”“We do not know what the future holds, but we do know Who holds the future.” -Linda Brumley Isolation can magnify your fears, so please be intentional about staying connected with spiritual and encouraging influences. PLEASE CHECK ON YOUR FRIENDS- we need each other! MICHELE’S MESSAGE TO THE MAMAS- If you are okay, then your kids are going to be okay. Take care of yourselves emotionally. We’ve got to stay rooted in God in these times. When the winds come, we won’t fall if we have deep roots! Happy New Year! Continuing the theme of making positive change as we head into 2020, I want to share a technique that you can use to get some clarity now and over the course of the year - for yourself and for your team. The Start-Stop-Continue technique is a simple, healthy, and positive prompt that you can use for yourself personally, with your teams as a group exercise, or even as a whole team exercise. I explain how to use this effective technique in different ways - to give and receive feedback and to make important changes individually and collectively. As we kick off this new year, consider what can you start, stop, and continue? Key Takeaways: [2:50] Mike shares an anecdote about asking and receiving feedback and communicating with team members. [8:07] Mike has started using variations of the Start-Stop-Continue technique personally, with his team, and the teams and leaders he works with. [8:25] You can use the Start-Stop-Continue technique to set goals and intentions for the new year. [11:45] Use this technique to get feedback from others about what you can start, stop, and continue doing to improve in all aspects of your life, whether it is at work, your family, or in your relationships. [14:59] Using this technique in a group setting takes courage and skill. Mike explains how he has run this exercise with teams he works with. [18:50] This exercise can also be a good activity to do as a team at the end of a season or during a retreat. [20:53] Fixing comes from shame, change comes from choice. Approach this exercise from a healthy, positive place of change, rather than a shame-based place of fixing. [22:52] Consider: What can you start, stop, and continue? Where can you ask for and give feedback in this manner? I know this is not news to anyone, but…caring for our marriages is SO IMPORTANT (and not always easy)! Which is why I’m so excited to share three ways to improve your marriage today. I had the opportunity to attend “An Evening with the Gottmans” date night in October, and I decided to do a followup Zoom call to discuss my takeaways with anyone from my email list who wanted to join. I included a worksheet for fill out during the call to make this as actionable as possible because, as I’ve mentioned before, we all know that marriage gets put on the back burner way too often. This week’s episode on 3 in 30 is a replay of that Zoom call, so you can ALL participate! >>Click HERE to download the worksheet if you want to fill it out as you listen or after you listen!
If you take a moment to think about your relationship with money, how does it make you feel? Do you immediately go to the negative self-talk about all the ways you don't deserve to grow wealth because you're not smart enough, you haven't studied the right things or you've grown up thinking that money was bad. That age old saying is going around in your head, "Money Can't Buy You Happiness", so why try to accrue it. Well let me tell you, this type of thinking is never going to get you anywhere. You need to change your mindset around money, and you need to do it immediately. If you're living a life of scarcity, taking no risks, setting small goals, thinking small, then this is all you'll ever have. How about you educate yourself, you start working hard, and you flip that dialogue. My guest today can be best described as Carmen San Diego. A sweet, unassuming type character at first glance but when you get to know her and hear her story, you'll see that she is actually the international woman of mystery. Coraline has been playing in the business arena for close to two decades, shadowing her parents in their home business since the age of 11. She has a fascination with all things business and making money; but not in your a-typical style. Her wealth of knowledge was acquired through the ownership of multiple businesses, being an active property investor and developer. By the age of 27 she had accumulated a fair chunk of cash which enabled her to live with choice and freedom; however it wasn’t all a rosy trip! Divorce, failed investments and losing 7 figures taught her a thing or three about sustainability during these rough times and a thing or two about the way society treats “failure”. Coraline holds knowledge on what most consider “the secrets of the rich” and is committed to bridging the gap on all things money and wealth accumulation for people from all walks of life. She has a special offering for podcast listeners: - Basic Business Money Bitch released 1 November 2019. The offering for Angela's audience is a suite of Bonuses when using the code: ANGEL Sale for this course will be available 16 October. The audience can register here for their interest for now. Coraline mentions her "Money Game" on this episode. If you'd like to play, here's the breakdown: Every day, you have a fictitious amount of money to spend. Starting on Day 1, you have $100 to spend.Every day after, that number increases by $100.Day 1: $100Day 2: $200Day 3: $300 and so forth... THE GUIDELINES:- You cannot re-spend that money on something you have previously spent it on (example: Day 2's money is not to be spent on groceries if you already allocated oney to that on Day 1)- You must spend it ALL. You can INVEST it, providing where you're investing it adheres to the previous guidelines.THINGS TO OBSERVE & ASK YOURSELFThe magic of this game is often noticed a few days into this game, once you've exhausted all of your usual spending habits.Consider:- What do you default spending money on?- How does it feel to spend the money?- At what point, from a dollar aspect, do you feel discomfort?- What stories are coming up for you every day? There were quite a few books discussed on today's episode, so head to the website for the full list and show notes.
So many people struggle with unresolved pain from past experiences. This affects thoughts, behaviors, and ability to show up as desired in the present moment, Healing can begin with 1 simple process. Re-framing: 3 step process. SHIFT the view/perception: Consider- Is there another way I can look at this? Have I gained anything from the experience? What have I learned from the experience. SHIFT the meaning: Consider- What do these experiences mean about me? Is the meaning supporting who I want to be? Is the meaning supporting my future goal. SHIFT the outcome: Consider- What is the goal? Do my beliefs and thoughts support my success? if not, what other thoughts can I replace them with?
For this episode I have a great conversation with Jake Zammit, the Director of Coaching for Legends FC in Brighton, MI. As a youth soccer player, Jake was a member of several Michigan State Championship Teams. In high school, Jake was a 4-time Varsity player at the University of Detroit Jesuit; winning a State Championship in 2001 and receiving All State honors. After High School, he accepted a full ride athletic scholarship to attend Quincy University in Illinois. US Soccer honored Jake as the 2018 Girls National Competitive Coach of the Year. Questions to Consider: What is your child's goal for their current season? What is their end goal for their youth sport? Is to play varsity in high school? Is it to play in college? Jake says, “Parents and athletes have to be honest with each other about what they want to get out of the game.” Are you having honest conversations to make sure you're on the same page? If you haven't already done so, sit down with your child to plot a course to get to the end game he or she really wants. Jake says, “If you push your player too hard, you'll eventually end up losing them.” How are you tempted to push your young athlete in ways that might not ultimately be helpful? What aspect of your character or spiritual development do you want to focus on this season? Jake suggests “patience” or “conflict management” as a place to begin. Follow BSD on Facebook today! Today we will discuss two wonderful and foundational black feminist texts by Barbara Smith and by Barbara Christian. Both of these women have put a tremendous amount of labor into creating theory from black lived experiences. In these two texts we see them struggle with big questions like: "whose writing is seen as authority?" and "where do you go if you're not reflected in text?". Smith wants to see theory built from black female experiences. Christian wants to see theory built from creative writing and from the hands of non-white authors.Questions to Consider: What happens when there is nonrecognition that a person’s identity exists? Where do we go to honor our knowledges if they’re not reflected anywhere? Why aren’t creative writers seen as critical theorists? Whose kind of writing is considered authority?Support the show (https://theorymeetspracticepod.blogspot.com/)
What is your personal success profile? Whatever actions, people, places or activities that always make you feel your best shouldn't be optional; they should be non-negotiable aspects of your routine. Are you prioritizing the source of your magic? Whatever you’re doing that helps you show up in your very best form, are you intentional about doing that on a daily, weekly or monthly basis? I’ve learned over the past few years that we have to prioritize the activities that bring us focus, joy and energy in order to show up as our best selves and therefore reach our most important goals. I learned the hard way that we have to hold ourselves accountable and meet our own basic requirements if we want to feel fulfilled. Here's a breakdown of how to do that: Step 1 - Think about a key activity that brings you joy, energy, and helps you to focus. This is one of your basic requirements for optimal performance. Note - typically when you’re not able to experience a basic requirement regularly enough, you may feel cranky, overwhelmed, irritated, frustrated, confused or indecisive. Step 2 - Assess how often you’re experiencing your basic requirement for optimal performance. How often are you doing it or getting it? Are you making it a priority, or are you being like I was and leaving it to chance because you take your ability to access this basic requirement for granted. Be honest. Step 3 - Make your basic requirement a priority, and put it on your calendar. I’ve started with a daily window for thinking and writing in the morning. My goal is to spend 30 minutes, but as long as I’m doing it regularly, I’m excited to see how the re-introduction of daily writing improved the quality of my life. Questions to Consider: What are the key ingredients for your very best day, and for your very best week? For you to show up as your very best self? What actions evoke the feelings that are priceless to you? What situations and people evoke the feelings that are priceless to you? What work would you do for free because the sensation of doing the work is priceless to you and core to your life purpose? Hello and welcome!Today’s episode is called: “How To Build An Audience For Your Book (Even If You Haven't Written It Yet!)”According to a survey in the New York Times, 81% of Americans say they have a book in them, but precious few follow through to write one. Just think how many people want to write a book in the whole world (and how precious few will actually write one.)If you are one of the precious few who will, firstly I want to tell you that you definitely should write a book - and here are 7 reasons why!Next, I want to tell you that I salute you and I want to help you!I want to tell you something that is an absolute MUST, regardless of what kind of book you want to write, how you want to publish, who your audience is... it's this:You need to build an audience for your book. You need to build your author platform.Your author platform (or writer platform or book platform) is absolutely crucial - for you, for your audience, for prospective literary agents and publishers, for places you will want to be reviewed and published. It’s something that, as a writer, you will be building and adding to on a daily and ongoing basis. It’s basically a key part of your life’s work.In this blog I’m going to give you an outline of what an Author Platform is and the basics of what you need to focus on to build your Author Platform.So...What is an author platform and what does it involve?Well, your author platform involves your skills and experience, your body of work, your social media, your interaction with your audience - and more. The key elements of an author platform are:1. Your body of workThis includes the writing you have had published, speaking engagements you have done, collaborations you have done, courses you ran in relation to your subject and reviews/testimonials you have garnered.2. Your websiteThis could include an active blog and possibly other examples of your writing. It could include testimonials and reviews or interviews you have done. It should also include an opt-in box to collect email addresses and build your audience.3. Your social mediaYour social media is a fabulous way to build your audience - to interact with people and to share about your life and your work (building your brand). Make sure to keep this up to date and active.4. Author BrandEverything you do online and in person will become what people associate with you and what you are known for.It makes sense to consciously decide what you want people to associate with you, what you want to spend your time writing about and what you want to be known for.Make sure you set a really clear intention about all of this that will be a through line in all you do. When you do this the opportunities come to you will be aligned with what you want for yourself, what you are passionate about and what you want to spend your time working on.Consider:What do you want to share in relation to your authorship? What do you want to stand for? What do you want to be known as an expert for?A key part of building your brand involves what you regularly post about your work and your life - generally on social media.Your brand involves what you share about yourself, yes, but you want what you share personally to be always congruous with what you stand for as an author. Be sure to make relevant posts that you would be happy for potential publishers, collaborators and book industry people to see.Yes, of course, you can share some photos and quotes full of fun and lightness, you can share your goofy side, you can share whatever you want! All of this helps people connect with you, but for your author brand, be sure that what your share is in line with your brand and your message.Bear in mind that any publications you pitch, any collaborators you want to work with, any literary agents and publishers you approach will be researching you - and this is why it’s key to have your Author Platform set up properly.Prep WorkIn order to create an author platform you need to be crystal clear about what you want to say in the world, what you want to write and what you want to be known for.So here's some prep work for you to begin with right now - answer these questions:What is the work you want to do?What do you want to write about? What do you stand for?Core AudienceIt’s also important to get clear about your core audience. The more direct and targeted your message is the more potent it will be for them.Consider:Who is your ideal reader?Who can you really help through your work? What are they struggling within their lives? How can you connect with them? There’s something so appealing about clarity and you can feel the difference from authors - and brands, musicians and other creatives - who know what they are about, know what they want to say, know who they want to connect with and get on with doing it.It’s worth taking the time - even an hour - to make these decisions, to set strong and clear intentions. This sets you up perfectly to begin building your author platform.Ultimately a strong author platform is a launching pad for all sorts of possibilities - as yet unseen for you - for connections and collaborations, reviews, features and publicity, speaking engagements and so on.There's so much more about all of this, but I can't go into it all in one blog.Building your author platform is an important thing I focus on with my 1:1 clients. In fact, I created an Ebook “Build Your Book Platform” all about it - including everything from how to get started with speaking engagements, how to create a simple and manageable social media strategy to support your brand. If you'd like to find out more about working with me, please CLICK HEREI hope this blog has been really helpful for you! In sports, business, and life, it's important to review where you have been, where you are, and where you are going. Great teams and organizations do this all the time both on an annual and quarterly basis. I think it is even more critical for you as an individual and leader to do a quarterly review to assess how you are doing and who you are becoming. If you have committed to some meaningful goals this year, the end of a quarter is a great opportunity to take a time out to celebrate and learn from the past, take inventory of the present, and prepare for the future. In today's episode of Monday Morning Moments, I offer some things to consider in planning your quarterly review and some key questions to ask during this very important time with yourself. Key Questions to Consider: What has become clear since we last met? What is one important thing that you have learned about yourself lately? What are some accomplishments in the past 3-4 months that you are most proud of? What excites you most about your future? What accomplishments will bring you the greatest sense of pride? How would others describe your performance? How would you describe your performance? What do you need to start, stop, and continue doing? Rate your current ability to handle challenges (fear, pressure, doubt, negative thoughts, and/or lack of confidence) on a scale of 1 to 10 (low to high). Is there a specific challenge that you want to work on in the next 3-4 months that you think could help you have your next breakthrough performance?

Robert discusses 1 Timothy 6 where those who are rich in this present world are commanded to NOT be arrogant nor to put our hope in wealth. There is another world that matters. Alexis Donkin was raised the child of two ordained ministers. She got her Master’s Degree in 2008, and set off on two moves with her husband. At 37 weeks of pregnancy, Alexis’ husband lost his job. This and the birth of her son culminated in a serious clinical depressing. Always a doer, Alexis set out on a journey to break free of her depression and rise above. During this process, she was able to rediscover herself. Q & A What was the number one thing that was holding you back from accepting self love? I was telling myself an unworthiness story. Who is one person who has changed your life for the better? My husband. Because he's been so incredibly supportive, no matter how wild or how deep the rabbit hole goes. What is the best advice you have ever received? Consider “What would make life more wonderful now? How can we make life more wonderful now?” I think just thinking about that and letting that question sit with you, you start, as you mentioned earlier, your brain starts answering it. What is a self care habit that you practice regularly? I meditate. I meditate every day. Sometimes I meditate for just a few moments and other times I will sit and meditate for half an hour to an hour. Can you share a resource, an app or a tool that we can use to build our selfcare practice. For creatives, there is a book called, “Life without Envy.” I also like meditating to chimes and bowls. Do you have a favorite quote? “There are more things in heaven and earth than found in your philosophy.” What book are you reading right now? I have a stack of books that are sitting on my dresser right now. I very rarely read books, but I do love this poetry magazine “Rattle.” What is the one thing that you are most passionate about? Spreading unconditional love. It's very important to me for other people to feel to feel and experience. The purpose of reflecting and planning is to get clarity on what you really want. Today's podcast is intended to be interactive so you can listen to it once just to hear the questions, then come back, pause it as much as you want and really take the time to think about who you want to become and what you genuinely want in the coming year. Consider: What are your wins from last year and what did you learn by achieving them? Is there a key word, intention or theme that can help guide your daily decisions? What did you do to promote connection and healing with people you care about? How did and will you invest in your own growth and development? How do forgiveness, gratitude, kindness and love thread through your life? What qualities and values will you exude and how will they guide your life?
Point to Ponder: If you believe the Bible is an infallible authority because your pastor said so, then he is really your infallible authority, isn't he?Quote to Remember: ''That which does not preach Christ is not apostolic, though it be the work of Peter or Paul and conversely, that which does teach Christ is apostolic even though hit be written by Judas, Annas, Pilate, or Herod.'' (Martin Luther, preface to James)Question to Consider: What isn't any true statement just as good as the ''Word of God''? what makes any true statement something other than the word of God?
Derek finishes this week's teaching by looking at how we should respond to God's extravagant love. Consider: What does your worship consist of? How much time do you spend with God? What can you do for His people that is out of the ordinary? If the Holy Spirit touches your heart to do something, respond extravagantly, no matter what the cost. Let Him see your love.
