This Pentecost Sunday message reminds us that life is filled with normal, dark, and mountain-top days — and in every season, God's call is the same: stay where He's placed you and listen for His voice.Just like Moses on the mountain and the disciples in the upper room, we're called to seek God not just for what He can do, but for what He wants to say. You don't need a perfect life to live a purposeful one — you need the Word and the Spirit.Stay. Listen. Your word is coming.

In this captivating episode of The Backstory on the Shroud of Turin, host Guy R. Powell sits down with biblical scholar Larry Stalley to ask: Is the Shroud of Turin the mysterious “Sign of Jonah” that Jesus referenced in Matthew's Gospel?Stalley introduces listeners to his fascinating research, outlined in his new book Divine Testimony for the Resurrection, and explores how cryptic references in Matthew, Hebrews, and the letters of John may point to knowledge of the Shroud in the early Church. They dive deep into the typology of Jonah's three days in the belly of the sea monster and draw a parallel to Christ's three days in the tomb wrapped in the linen burial cloth—the Shroud.Discover how “the discipline of the secret” might explain why the Gospel writers didn't openly refer to the image on the Shroud, and how this could serve as God's own visual testimony to the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. This episode will enrich your faith and deepen your understanding of biblical prophecy and relics. Don't miss this deep theological dive with Larry Stalley.

I sat down with Victor Owen Schwartz back in February 2022, and this episode originally aired on my birthday, June 30, 2022. In light of recent developments in the international wine trade, I thought this would be a great time to revisit this episode and reintroduce you to the man who fellow podcast Alum Lyle Fass has described as a true “Mensch."Victor Schwartz, founder of VOS Selections, a small family-run wine importing company in New York, became the unlikely face of legal resistance against Trump's sweeping global tariffs. Schwartz runs the business alongside his daughter, Chloe, and imports wine, sake, and spirits from small-batch producers in countries such as France, Lebanon, and Japan. The Challenge: When Trump announced unprecedented global tariffs on almost all US trading partners, Schwartz described them as an "existential threat" to his small business. Unlike large corporations, small importers like VOS couldn't absorb the financial impact of sudden tariff increases. The Legal Battle: Schwartz partnered with the Liberty Justice Center, a libertarian advocacy group, and agreed to serve as the lead plaintiff in a lawsuit challenging Trump's authority to impose the tariffs. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of VOS and four other small businesses. VOS Selections: How a small, family-run wine company hit back against Donald Trump's tariffs | CNN BusinessThe Victory: A three-judge panel at the US Court of International Trade struck down Trump's sweeping global tariffs, finding that Trump overstepped his authority by invoking emergency economic powers to impose tariffs on China, Canada, Mexico, and other US trading partners. Schwartz was cooking a pasta dinner when he received the winning news from his lawyers. The Ongoing Fight: The Trump administration immediately appealed the ruling, and the case could end up in the Supreme Court. An appeals court granted the Trump administration's request to pause the lower court's ruling, meaning the legal battle continues. Schwartz's case represents a David-and-Goliath story where a small wine importer successfully challenged presidential trade policy, with implications for businesses and consumers worldwide.A huge thank you to Victor O. But this is not the first time presidents have invoked broad authority. John Dearborn finds that President Reagan sought to gain power over civil rights agencies, saying they had gone too far in promoting affirmative action, restricting their activity and disciplining their leadership. Multiple current Supreme Court justices were involved in the saga, which helped build the unitary executive theory. David Hausman researches attempts to control the immigration courts under the first Trump administration, finding that both adding judges and setting precedent with Attorney General opinions were influential. But it mostly worked by building the bureaucracy, rather than restraining it.

Drawing from his background in hospital IT and biblical science, Jones explains how the machines used were identical and vulnerable, how the date of 1325 AD was too “perfect,” and why this deserves a serious scientific reconsideration. He also reflects on how his Christian journey intersected with this remarkable artifact and discusses early depictions of Christ that mirror the face on the Shroud. PLEASE FILL OUT OUR SURVEY: https://bit.ly/BLNOlistenersurveyContinuing their analysis of the Ten Commandments through Genesis 27, Rabbi Fohrman and Imu focus on two pivotal commands: Shabbat and honoring one's parents. They begin by uncovering surprising connections between Rebecca's plea for Jacob's safety and the concept of divine rest. How does Jacob's exhausting fourteen-year labor under Lavan transform our understanding of Shabbat? And what can this teach us about finding true rest in our own lives? The discussion then turns to the command of Kibbud Av v'Em - honoring both father and mother. Through a close reading of Esav's response to his parents' values, even after feeling betrayed, they reveal how this command speaks to something far deeper than mere obedience. It points to the delicate art of maintaining wholeness in relationships, ultimately connecting to our relationship with the land itself.Join Rabbi Fohrman and Imu as they demonstrate how these two commands emerge not as arbitrary rules, but as profound wisdom about maintaining balance in our most fundamental relationships - with time, with family, and with the earth that sustains us.Intrigued by our discussion of land as our grandparents? Explore this idea further in our Shavuot episode of Into the Verse. For a deeper dive, we recommend Rabbi Fohrman's courses A Tale of Two Names: Elokim and YHVH and The Meaning of Life, as well as his analysis of the deception story in this essay from his book Genesis: A Parsha Companion, as well as this video Why Did Rebecca Trick Her Husband Isaac. We’ve been intrigued in the past few weeks with the ancient traditions surrounding the choice for a new pope to lead the Roman Catholic Church. But that transition hasn’t always been smooth. This is another look at one of the darkest moments in Church history. It was the Cadaver Trial of a dead pope, which took place 1100 years ago.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 20-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world. US bureau chief Jacob Magid joins host Amanda Borschel-Dan for today's episode. Hamas has stated that in an “act of good faith,” it will release the final living US-Israeli hostage, Edan Alexander, today as US President Donald Trump begins to make his way to his visit to Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. Magid talks about his exclusive look into how the negotiations were carried out. US envoy to the Mideast Steve Witkoff reportedly said during conversations with hostages' families that “Israel is prolonging the war, even though we do not see where further progress can be made.” This harsh statement came as the US made a separate peace agreement with the Iran-backed Houthis and is directly negotiating with Iran for a nuclear deal Israel is not supporting. Is Israel losing the backing of its closest ally? Trump’s meeting with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Riyadh on Tuesday is also set to include Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Syria’s interim leader, Ahmed al-Sharaa, Arabic media reported Sunday. Magid weighs in on how likely this meeting is to take place and what Trump is trying to accomplish in his Mideast trip. Iran and the United States wrapped up nuclear talks in Oman on Sunday with no apparent breakthrough in a standoff over uranium enrichment, but with both sides confirming plans for future negotiations. We discuss how Trump's Mideast trip may or may not influence future rounds of talks. Check out The Times of Israel's ongoing liveblog for more updates.
