Hey beautiful being, Cilia here with a solo episode this week- let me know what you think of this format, I skipped putting in my usual podcast intro and just went straight into the episode with a little clip of music before. This week, we're talking about toxic relationships, ending the cycle of toxic relationships, why serial daters need to create a strong foundation of self love, and some tips on how to create that foundation of self love. For the purposes of this episode, by serial dating I mean someone who is constantly dating and getting into toxic relationships when they do so but they're begging for this cycle to stop. Hello, hi! Today's episode features a returning special guest to Medium Lady, my friend Stephanie Cunningham. Stef can be found on instagram @steffski where she role models real-life living, sharing both the highs and the lows of homeschooling, intergenerational living and breaking the “highlight reel” so that her friends and followers feel like they can share in the chaos of this season of life.   Episode Summary Stephanie's guiding principles about what she shares online are about authenticity and serving her own interest first, which is such a refreshing point of view when we see overly curated or highly produced content online  We discuss how much our attention might be drawn to “online perfection” while we also desire seeing, meeting and building connection with people who are “just like us” A really amazing part of our friendship is that we're both creating content online: Stephanie and I reflect on where we've become more mindful about creating content even when it's hard to resist the pull of “virality” we acknowledge that it's not good for us and it's not good for our communities Through thoughtful exploration time and time again with my audience I have been teasing apart the nuance of guilt experienced by women. What comes up time and time again are the concerns and worries that women have about their motherhood: am I doing enough of the right things for my children? Am I giving them the childhood they deserve? If we all want to give our kids a magical childhood where does that desire come from? How is it affected by curated motherhood content online? Our kids also have their focus drawn to content online and just like us, they have desires to bring that online content into their real lives - this changes the stakes for how we manage their expectations, and ours. Part of our desire for our children to have a magical childhood comes from the emerging conversation about how much our parents' choices affected us, and why we might feel compelled to make sure our kids never have similar experiences. “Cycle Breaking” happens when you're willing to get off the pendulum and acknowledge that your parents did the best that they could and sometimes they made mistakes and those mistakes affected us. The best way I've heard this said was listening to advocate and speaker Prasanna Ranganathan when he said his parents were “always careful to protect me while never limiting my opportunities. Curating childhood as millennial mothers also includes awareness of screen time and how we help our kids interact with screens  Our job as parents is not to make sure our kids are happy 100% of the time…. But what about the holidays? The pressure increases to curate a perfect childhood around the holidays and this can be exacerbated by what you see online. One KEY question to ask yourself around making memories this holiday season is “What do I want our family/my kids' takeaway to be from this season?” and maybe, (probably) that will mean going against the mainstream in some way or another Stef and I also chat about the days that aren't “holiday” and the specialness of Ordinary Time - most of our days are these sacred ordinary days and there are plenty of opportunities to bring mindful celebration and gratitude to those “regular old” days. You don't have to do this on you own! Stephanie and her partner Craig make time to plan and work out their intentions together before they get too deep into the season Other Episodes you might like: Episode 119: 9 Small Things I'm No Longer Feeling Guilty About Episode 117: Medium Effort Advice - “Help! Send us a textAs millennials that have experienced one setback after another, many of us may feel a little disheartened as we fail to achieve some of the exciting life milestones that we thought we'd have by now.  With housing costs and the cost of living in general becoming more and more out of reach, we may never achieve the same American Dream that we were sold.  But maybe our legacy isn't about success as we were raised to understand it! Maybe our legacy is making sure that the destructive patterns that were passed down to us from generations before don't get passed down to generations after us.  That's the topic of this week's episode of The Millennial Reset- what it means to break the cycle and raise the next generation based on a framework that stems from self-expression, self-worth, and what's true today, instead of what we've been conditioned for in the past.  We're joined once again by licensed clinical psychologist, Dr. Abena Berry, as we break down three important concepts:Understanding how trauma gets passed down from one generation to another, oftentimes completely unconsciously.Self-help techniques to begin uncovering some of the conditioning and subconscious programming that may have gone unnoticed until now.How to make sure that toxic generational patterns don't get passed down to our children by effective modeling.  You can follow Dr. Berry on TikTok and check out her new book on Amazon. Support the showvisit www.themillennialreset.com/podcast to subscribe and listen to all episodes.

Life can throw us some serious curve balls at times. Some so unique that it can be hard to feel that anyone could ever understand or that we could feel capable of moving through. Yet, if we came here to be an emotional Warrior, it's our Soul's plan to learn through challenging lessons. My guest this week, Kristina Gauthier, is one of those warriors with a very rich, powerful, and tragedy laden story. Kristina is a certified spiritual health and life coach. She thrives on creating a safe space where her clients can lean into their power and unlock their magic and medicine. Kristina guides her clients to heal their trauma and reconnect with their inner child, all while encouraging them to unapologetically speak their truth. On this guest episode Kristina and I discuss the road through addiction that led us both to our Spiritual path, healing the Father wound, & learning to accept and celebrate all parts of ourselves. Kristina shares about being an intergenerational cycle breaker, breaking free from a lifestyle that unfortunately took the lives of both her late mother and sister. As a cycle breaker, Kristina talks about how her mission is to dive deep into the origins of her and her family's behaviors and root out unhealthy patterns. Despite facing tough challenges in lifetime , Kristina has consciously decided to work on herself and become the best version. As a result, she is using her journey to empower others to lean in, break toxic cycles and do the healing work.Dr. Jolyn Starling, https://www.drstarling.ca/Kristina's early years were far from picture-perfect; she was born into a family with a colossal amount of trauma on both her mother's and father's sides. Throughout Kristina's life, her late mother struggled with her drug addiction, and her dad is a well-known Hell Angel. After years of dating abusive men, struggling with her own drug addiction, and feeling deeply insecure and unworthy of love or life, she chose to invest in herself and heal. In 2017, Kristina's late sister died of a fentanyl overdose, and that's when everything shifted for her. Despite where Kristinacame from, she chose to lean into her darkness till she found her light and rose above the ashes, making her the first to break the cycle within her lineage. Not only is Kristina the first to break the cycle, but she's now rewriting her lineage by showing up for herself and her late sisters' two children differently than anyone has done before. Kristina is proof that regardless of what cards you were dealt with when you choose to come home to yourself and heal your trauma, you, too, can turn your life around and create the life you've always desired.Learn more about Kristina here:IG - _kkristinnaFb- Kristina GauthierTik tok @ kkristinnaawww.Kristina-Gauthier.ca

Hello and Happy Thursday Worthiness Warriors! We are in British Columbia! We drove 20 hours over Memorial Day weekend and saw 8 bears in 24 hours. It's absolutely beautiful! We are headed back to Alaska for the summer, and I couldn't be more excited about it! Exciting announcements around that to come! Today our topic is quite important and also heavy. Generational healing. I had an epiphany moment with this recently, and I knew I had to share as I'm navigating. Coaching, therapy, somatic work, and anything challenging your past programming is generational healing. Most of the stories we tell ourselves come from past generations, the ‘I'm not _____ enough' stories. We are not here to be perfect, you cannot regulate your nervous system all the time, and you can not be committed to healing all the time. You are not broken, and you don't need to be fixed. You have everything you need, and you can trust yourself in your own healing process… and! When you become aware of programming that you want/need to change, I want to give you permission to do so. This is literally changing generations. This is one of the most powerful things about my job, is helping parents to not repeat the cycles of their parents. The conversation, sadly, isn't new. There is, though, a collection of very powerful influencers who are committed to changing it. The conversation I'm talking about? The colossal inequity facing women when it comes to seeking venture funding for their startups. It seems an impossible task - shifting a paradigm that's existed for decades. The key word there, it “seems” impossible. It isn't “actually” impossible. And when you meet someone like Stacy Kehren Idema you get the real feeling that movement is not just possible, but that it's happening. She spent 26 years in the corporate grind - banking, healthcare - always on the edge of innovation and finding ways to break through to new ways and solutions.  Then, as so many do in that environment, she burned out and took a good hard look at what she'd learned and where she got to go next. What's next is Global Collective, revolutionizing how investing is done - specifically in terms of empowering female entrepreneurs and energizing more male investors to invest in them. In this week's episode of Talk Unleashed, I talk with Stacy about how she came to where she is, what she intends to accomplish and what's in the way. What does leadership actually mean in today's world? Good question. That's what Cathy Brooks thought. And it's why she created Talk, Unleashed – a new podcast of radically honest conversation about ... well ... everything. Whether her own musings or in conversation with industry leaders, this weekly podcast invites curiosity. Curiosity about not what people do, but why they do it. It's about digging underneath to reveal the thing that is most true - that we are more alike than we are not. This podcast compliments Unleashed Leadership, the coaching business through which Cathy helps clients unearth and untether their own internal leadership and connect with others in a way that truly engages. Recently Cathy joined Paris-based start-up OpenBubble as Co-Founder and CEO of North America. OpenBubble's mission is to break through issues of isolation and separation in society by creating a powerful way for people to connect and talk – with no agenda. #stacykehrenidema #globalcollective #genderequity #equityininvesting #breakthecycle #OpenBubble #Conversation #connection #TalkUnleashed #UnleashedConversation #UnleashedLeadership #FixYourEndofTheLeash

Iris Chen is a recovering Tiger mother and founder of the Untigering movement. In her book Untigering: Peaceful Parenting for the Deconstructing Tiger Parent, she shares her journey and reflections on shifting away from parenting rooted in power to parenting grounded in partnership. She's an American-Born Chinese who ended up with kids who are Chinese-born Americans.  She's a peaceful parenting advocate, intersectional unschooler, anti-oppression activist, and deconstructing Tiger Mom. In this episode, Iris shares how a workshop about brain science began a long journey to deconstructing everything she thought she knew about parenting, school, and even religion. She began to move away from Tiger parenting which is based in control, which was the way she was raised and the culture she was surrounded by and began a process of re-parenting herself.  She shows gratitude for her strong-willed firstborn, resisting her control and pushing her to learn and grow and find another path. She speaks to the regret of not learning it sooner, and how she was able to share her journey so publicly in her book without shame. We also dive into a deeper conversation into her shift from getting all the accolades and awards and formal schooling to finding and loving unschooling as a family. So wherever you're at in your reckoning or movement towards more positive discipline approaches, I know that you'll be able to find gems in this episode that will keep you going for years to come. Have you ever wondered if you need therapy for your ADHD?  That question can feel overwhelming for ADHD mamas. You're thinking:  Do I really need therapy if I'm not in crisis? What if my therapist doesn't understand my ADHD brain? What if they tell me I'm just a hot mess and there's no hope for improvement? What if I don't like my therapist and I'm stuck in weekly sessions I don't know how to get out of? I hear you mama, and I've been there.  But what if I told you I knew someone who could answer all these questions–a licensed psychologist, consultant, speaker, educator, and most importantly–a mom with ADHD?  Meet Dr. Han Ren–she's our guest for this episode of Motherhood in ADHD, and she addresses all these questions and SO much more. We talk about: -Dr. Ren's own journey to ADHD diagnosis, and how she felt like she was “tricking” her psychiatrist into prescribing stimulants (Until she realized she ACTUALLY needed them!)  -The cultural impact of ADHD, breaking generational cycles, and how Dr. Ren worked to decondition her belief that it was a character flaw -Navigating friendship with ADHD–and how to handle it when you feel like you've been “too much” in your relationship  -Normalizing indecision and changing your mind–why it's totally okay to hobby hop -When to go to therapy–and how it can help ADHD moms thrive, even when we're not in crisis -How to choose the right therapist for you, AND how to fire your therapist if they're not a good fit–no guilt, shame or ghosting necessary!  -Parenting well with ADHD–Dr. Ren shares how it's made her a more compassionate mom -How Dr. Han sucks at cleaning her house (YES, she really is just like us!)  Mama, you deserve to feel your best, and if that means finding a therapist to walk through life with you, then I support you 100%, and this episode is for you! Cycle breaking is something many people on the spiritual path end up doing, whether they do it consciously or not. Creating new ways of being, treating others differently than you were taught to treat them, doing something different with your life than you were expected to, or stopping cycles of abuse or addiction, plus many others. All of those are cycles and patterns that we can work to end. We end them by healing, by doing the work within ourselves, and by discovering the truth of who we are. In this podcast episode, Laura talks about the concept of breaking a cycle and what that looks like. She also talks about how to break things and what we may run into when we do break them.
