Life often takes us on unexpected journeys, some that test our mettle and foundational beliefs. But it's within these challenges that we unearth the depth of our resilience and the capacity to impact others profoundly. Mary welcomes Mike Caprio, a young man whose early encounter with a rare health condition led him to genuine introspection and personal growth. Initially met with isolation and despair, Mike's diagnosis of familial adenomatous polyposis spurred a transformation that not only impacted his physical well-being but also redefined his purpose in life. His narrative is one of courage and transformation, offering listeners a deep dive into the realities of grappling with a life-altering diagnosis. The conversation navigates through Mike's medical journey, starting with the absence of symptoms and the shocking discovery of his genetic condition, and advancing to the critical surgeries that saved his life. Mike and Mary explore the emotional toll of facing mortality at a young age, shedding light on the power of family support and the internal battles that accompany health crises. About Mike: Mike Caprio is a remarkable individual who has demonstrated immense resilience and strength in the face of a rare genetic condition known as familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP). Dneska je to krásně umělecké. Chlapci totiž probrali největší hvězdy posledních dvaceti let. Leonarda di Capria, Brada Pitta a ... no však si to pusťte!
In this episode, Will Poole, co-founder and managing partner of Capria Ventures, talks about the opportunities and challenges in investing in the global south. Will started his career with a computer science degree 40 years ago and worked at some of the biggest names in tech, including Sun Microsystems and Microsoft, before turning to VC investing. A significant part of that career involves working in India, where in his own words, an early lesson was about finding “resilient founders.” He also talks about why he wants every company in Capria's portfolio to have a generative AI strategy.
Microsoft and Google both surprised the street yesterday, beating analysts' estimates. Google also saw its cloud business turn a profit for the first time since the unit's launch. Also in this brief, Microsoft's Anant Maheshwari is named Nasscom chair; WhatsApp can now be used on multiple phones; Xerox to donate PARC to SRI; and Capria Ventures announced the first close of its second fund, which has a target of $100 million, to continue to invest in tech-led startups in the “global south,” the VC firm said in a press release. Notes: Microsoft, yesterday, beat street expectations, driven by growth in its cloud computing and Office productivity software businesses, and the company said artificial intelligence products were boosting sales, The Guardian reports. The company also forecast that revenue in its main segments for the current quarter would match or top Wall Street targets. Meanwhile, Anant Maheshwari, President and CEO of Microsoft India has been named Chairperson of Nasscom, India's biggest technology lobby, for the current fiscal year that started April 1, The Hindu reports. Coming back to big tech earnings, sales at Google also rose, unexpectedly, for the Jan-March period, which is the Alphabet company's fiscal first quarter. Google reported first-quarter revenue of $69.8 billion, up 3 percent year-over-year and above analyst predictions of $68.9 billion. Google reported cloud revenue of $7.4 billion in Q1 of 2023, up 27.5 percent from $5.8 billion in the year-ago period, and with a $191 million profit, the first since the internet search giant started breaking out cloud earnings, compared with an operating income loss of $706 million a year ago. WhatsApp, yesterday announced a new much sought-after feature, the Meta unit said in a press release. Following up on last year's rollout of the ability for users to message on all their devices, WhatsApp has now introduced the ability to use the same WhatsApp account on multiple phones. Now you can link your phone as one of up to four additional devices, the same as when you link with WhatsApp on web browsers, tablets and desktops, the company said in a post. This update has started rolling out to users globally and will be available to everyone in the coming weeks. In once-big-tech news, Xerox is donating its famed Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) to SRI International, a non-profit research and innovation institute. Researchers at the two organizations will collaborate on developing technologies and scientific research, while Xerox said it will focus on its “core, digital and IT services,” Quartz reports. Roughly 1,000 employees from PARC will join SRI, and contribute to its research areas, which include computer vision, AI and machine learning, and robotics. Both organizations have worked in the innovation space for decades, creating technology that has come to define the Internet age, Quartz notes. In some venture capital news, Capria Ventures, a US-based VC firm that has backed several Indian startups attempting to solve local problems with world-class tech-based innovations, yesterday announced the first close of its new $100 million fund. The new fund, Capria Fund II, will focus on investing in 20-25 tech startups in the entrepreneurial hotspots of India, Southeast Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa, the firm said in a press release.

Interview with Joe Columbo expert Don Capria
Will Poole started Capria Fund as a fund-of-funds, with a network of more than 15 managers and a collective AUM of more than $1 billion and presence in the leading tech hotspots in Africa, Latin America, Southeast Asia, and India. Capria's second fund is structured as a conventional venture fund, investing in individual early-growth startups selected from the 350-company portfolio of their partners across the global south. Will Poole first came to India in 2003, leading Microsoft's Windows global expansion. This experience opened his eyes to the potential of the Indian market as a startup ecosystem and tech hotspot. In 2009 he became an investor and co-chair of innovative education startup Vidyanext Learning, and helped them to establish dozens of Vidyanext learning centers in Bengaluru and Gurugram. Following this he established Unitus Ventures in Bengaluru in 2012 to support early-stage tech startups with India scale and global potential. Then in 2015 he founded Capria Ventures as a financial services innovator. Capria invests in and alongside leading emerging managers in emerging markets, and also manages Unitus Ventures. It's Part 2 of our two-part episode exploring one of the most unique chapters in Italian American history as we sit down with author Don Capria to explore the life and times of Mafia boss and Italian American community leader Joseph Colombo, founder of the Italian American Civil Rights League. Picking up right where we left off, Capria will take us into the personal life and private psychology of Joe Colombo, and share his thoughts on what singular event might have lead this clearly dynamic and talented man into a life of criminality. We'll explore the complex and sensitive relationship between organized crime and Italian American identity, and how its place in American popular consciousness still impacts our sense of self, generations after its peak of activity. And, in light of the 50 years that have passed since Colombo's assassination at the second-annual Italian American Unity Day in 1971, Capria will walk us through the events of that fateful afternoon, and share his own theory as to why what many observers simply accept as a Mafia murder, might actually have been something much more sinister, with implications that reach to a national level! Join us as we conclude this incredible conversation on crime, conspiracy, community leadership… and the fascinating man at the center of it all. This episode is sponsored by Mediaset Italia.
Exactly 50 years ago this week, on Monday, June 28, 1971, one of the more bizarre chapters in Italian American history unfolded in New York City's Columbus Circle, as tens of thousands of people gathered for the second annual Italian American Unity Day! On this week's episode of the Italian American Podcast, we're joined by Don Capria, author of “Colombo: The Unsolved Murder,” to discuss the life and legacy of the man behind this unprecedented chapter in Italian American history. The Italian American Civil Rights League was the creation of one of history's most infamous Italian Americans, reputed Mob Boss Joe Colombo of Brooklyn. Formed to fight discriminatory representations of Italians in American media and news, the league exploded onto the scene in the late 1960s with star-studded and sold-out benefit concerts in Madison Square Garden. On June 29, 1970, they rallied nearly 100,000 Italian Americans in Manhattan's Columbus Circle for the inaugural “Unity Day." But, just a year later, the second Unity Day ended in violence and bloodshed as Colombo was felled by an assassin's bullet as thousands upon thousands of his fellow Italians looked on in horror. For Italian Americans living throughout the East Coast in the years between 1970-1971, the prominent “#1” logo of the League became the ubiquitous sign of a growing sense of Italian American awareness and action. In this first part of a two-part episode, Capria will take us through the process of writing his unprecedented book, which he co-authored with Colombo's son, Anthony. He'll share how the League was formed, and how it's early successes included a game-changing impact on Paramount's production of "The Godfather." Join us as we explore the history of the Italian American Civil Rights League, the life and times of Joe Colombo, and his and the League's surprising and controversial legacy within today's Italian American community! Editorial homenaje.

Presentan a dúo: @capria y @josemanuelboza. Jack Knellinger is the Principal and co-founder of Capria, the world's first VC accelerator focused on training the emerging wave of new impact investing fund managers. Capria focuses on bringing in teams from developing nations, and teaches them how to operate fundraise and launch their impact focused VC firms in countries that traditionally don't have experienced investors or a breadth of investors looking to invest in companies that are focused on social or environmental good. Capria also has a really intriguing model which does things such as allowing these emerging investors to put their investments on Capria's balance sheet, which is incredibly helpful for these first time fund managers. Led by an experienced team who also runs Unitus Seed Fund, Jack and the team at Capria are doing incredibly important work to spread the influence and implementation of impact investing globally. If you have any interest in launching your own fund, impact investing in parts outside the US, or are intrigued by the idea of an accelerator program for VC fund managers, this episode is a must listen. Just one quick little side not for everyone listening before the start of the interview...Seattle has got a lot going on in the world of impact investing and for those of you who are unaware, I highly suggest poking your head around either in person or online and getting familiar with the work being done in the area. I think there are a lot of people and companies and names that over time will rise to the top and be some of the most recognizable in the industry. www.impactinvestingpodcast.com @impinvpodcast www.capria.vc @CapriaVC Jack Knellinger @Knelly https://www.linkedin.com/in/jackknellinger http://www.forbes.com/sites/laurengensler/2016/06/23/capria-emerging-managers-fund-impact-investing/#168b742531d0
The Impact Podcast by Innov8social | Social Impact Through Business, Innovation, Leadership
It's Day 25 of our 30 Day Podcast Project. In this episode, we meet Will Poole--who pivoted from a successful career at Microsoft to exploring and engaging in impact investing. HIs work led him to launch Unitus Seed Fund in 2012, a fund specifically designed to provide seed funds for companies in India profitably delivering products and services that improve the lives of families in the lowest social-economic strata. Based on feedback and requests, Will and his co-founding team have taken another major step in impact investing. This time, as ecosystem builders. In January 2015, he co-founded Capria, an accelerator program for fund managers seeking to gain skill sets, guidance, and actionable knowledge in engaging in impact investing. Learn more about his personal journey into social impact and how his 'problemsolving mindset' has served him in his various roles. By some measures, the world is awash in cash, much of it available to be invested in emerging markets with a social purpose. For instance, the world’s largest bank, the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, has assets of $3.3 trillion. The constraint on impact investing may be expertise rather than capital. [Jump to page 2 to watch the live interview.] According to Dave Richards, cofounder and Managing Director of Capria Ventures an affiliate of Unitus, explains the constraint. There are, he says, “lots of great entrepreneurs in high-growth emerging markets in Africa, Latin America and Asia and very little early-stage risk capital available, so their businesses aren’t realizing their potential in areas such as agriculture, healthcare, education and technology.” The cause, he asserts, isn’t the lack of capital. He says, “What’s needed are on-the-ground, knowledgeable, capable fund managers who can provide smart capital and support to the best entrepreneurs.” To address this problem, Richards says, “We have launched Capria Accelerator, the first global business accelerator for impact fund managers. We are taking our experience of building the leading impact seed fund in India along with Unitus’ experience over a decade of launching multiple fund managers to invest in, support and help capitalize new fund managers backing early-stage startups primarily in markets including Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, Southeast Asia, and Latin America.” Read the full Forbes article and watch the interview here: http://onforb.es/1WdGawI. Edward Jones is an American apostle called to serve God in 1998. A father to 7 children Brittany, Autumn, Cierra, Keith, Joshua, Capria, Jessica, and a husband to one wife, Prophetess Deshauna Jones. He accepted his call in the latter part of 1999. He gave his life to Christ under the ministry of Pastors Frank and Nancy Ward of the Power of Prayer Cathedreal Ministries of St. Louis, MO. Edward began preaching with an emphasis on the prophetic and soon found himself ministering late nights in both St. Louis, MO and Brooklyn, Il streets. He and his fellow servant Aundray Williams preached tirelessly beginning at midnight each Friday in some of the roughest parts of the aformentioned cities. Together and through the power of the Holy Ghost, they saw many lives saved, demons cast out and one of the most notorious drug abusers finally give her life to Christ. He began to look at his life and see God's hand had been protecting him. At one point he thought he was invincible, even untouchable. That same day he had a head on collission and woke up mangled behind the steering wheel. His arm was broken in three places and doctors gave the news that he would never have full mobility or range of motion and suggested an operation involving screws and bolts. He was uninsured and in dismay at what he would become. In subsequent days and months he began to pray and found God to be a healer. Today and since those dark days in the late 90's Apostle Edward Jones has learned that God is a healer, a way maker, a deliverer, married to the backslider, and a a rewarder of those who diligently seek him! Considering the state of affairs in todays world one may ask “Is there any Power?” The response is YES, and God is that Power!Click for Android App here Sponsored by http://opportunityknocks.paycationpro.com/
