Tara J. Stone started writing fiction when she was in first grade and discovered the thrill of screenwriting when she studied Communications Media at John Paul the Great Catholic University. Screenplays are her favorite way to tell stories, but novels are quickly gaining. She hopes her writing will contribute to a revival of Catholic fiction. After successfully self-publishing two screenplays as paperbacks and ebooks, she partnered with two of her former film professors to create Story Masters Film Academy, which offers online courses in screenwriting and directing. Tara resides in Colorado, and in 2016, she became a Consecrated Virgin Living in the World in the Diocese of Colorado Springs. In addition to making things up and writing them down, Tara enjoys praying, hiking (definitely not running), going to the symphony (especially movies at the symphony), discovering new craft brews, and spending time with family and friends. Learn more about Tara J. Stone and her work at https://tarajstonewriter.com/.  TOPICS OF CONVERSATION About "680 Miles Away," the inspiration behind the story and title! The protagonist's journey Integrating music into the storyline The unbreakable bonds of sisterhood. Writing a sequel to satisfy current fans and new readers. What's next for Tara J. Stone? 680 Miles Away Summary: The follow-up to 6 Blocks Home is a powerful story about confronting old wounds, embracing new possibilities, and the triumph of unrelenting love. Evie is a musical prodigy who has a habit of running away when things get hard. Or messy. Or just plain awkward. Like the time she ran away from home when she discovered the devastating truth about her past. Now, at twenty-three, Evie is content with the quiet life she's carved out for herself—working at a music store, teaching violin lessons, and joking around with her coworker and best friend, Finn—but her world is about to get hard and messy and awkward again. A chance encounter with a stranger sets Evie on a crash course with the very past she's spent years running from. An old flame reappears. And most terrifying of all, she's beginning to suspect Finn is more than just a friend. As events beyond her control force Evie to choose between running and risking it all, she will discover the heartache of betrayal, the strength of true friendship, and the unbreakable bonds of unconditional love.   CONNECT WITH TARA J. Former Rock N Roll Publicist Carol Klenfner ( Rolling Stones, Elton John, The Who, and more) is a table tennis champion now rocking the table tennis circuit. She's got stories up the wazoo about all 50+ great rock n roll acts she traveled with and repped back when, but her own latest act is a pretty darn good story too.   Carol was a gritty NY gal who worked her way up through the Rock N Roll PR world and worked as a top executive for 4 decades at a prestigious firm in NYC. She married, had two daughters, and a solid career. But in 2009, when she was 64, her life started to fall apart. Right after recuperating from back surgery, Carol lost her husband. Then the recession hit and she was shockingly laid off from her job. At her age, she knew finding a comparable position would be difficult if not impossible. She had to move to find a more affordable place to live and admits it was a horrible time of grief and what felt like solitary confinement, while trying to launch her own PR business from her dining room table. She was struggling and knew she had to get out of the house and do something for her sanity. "Depression is not my thing, but I did feel terribly lonely and isolated. It was like solitary confinement. I wasn't sure what was ahead for me, but I knew I needed to get out of the house." Carol happened to catch a documentary on PBS that profiled seniors in a table tennis tournament, and it sparked old memories of having fun playing ping pong as a kid. She grabbed her friend Stephanie Palewski-Brumbach, who she grew up with and they went to check out Spin, the ping pong club and restaurant owned by Susan Sarandon.  They liked it, thought they were good enough to try out for the women's league and thrilled they were accepted. Carol who got tired of losing, hired a coach and worked her way up into league play and went on to compete and rock the national tournaments!  Del Moon Dir. of Communications & Media for The National Senior Games did a feature story on Carol. "She wonders if table tennis saved her life in a way, and she feels like a rock star among her age peers who marvel at her renewed passion for life and dedication to pursue a sport."    Carol is a great inspiration for staying in the game! Any game! At any age! She's passionate others should find their own way to “move a muscle, change a mood.”  Carol's really bummed she'll miss the National Championship of Table Tennis in Las Vegas and The National Senior Games this year because she hurt her hand, but she's learning how to play the game with her other hand.  Luckily she wasnt too bummed to come have some fun talking with me.  Carol found her Personal Best, and hopes she is an inspiration for others to pursue theirs. Go Carol!

FrontRowSoccer.com's Michael Lewis returns after a two-year absence to help us dig into the news of the Major Arena Soccer League's hiring of three marquee names from pro indoor soccer's 1980s heyday - as it attempts to translate the sport's past glory into interest for a new generation of fans.   The additions of Shep Messing (Chairman), Keith Tozer (Commissioner) and Episode 66 guest JP Dellacamera (President, Communications/Media) to the MASL executive suite signals a major effort to stabilize the long-wobbly league and elevate the indoor game back to the level of its legendary predecessors - like the original Major Indoor Soccer League and even the old North American Soccer League.   Besides weighing in on what might happen in the months ahead, Lewis  mines nearly forty years of soccer reporting to recount some of the most memorable indoor matches from his sportswriting career, including: The MISL's epic 1981 "Championship Weekend" at the St. Louis Checkerdome, where the hometown Steamers outlasted the Wichita Wings in a logic-defying 8-7 shootout semifinal, but lost a nail-biting 6-5 final to the New York Arrows two days later; 1975 NASL indoor tournament matches at Rochester's War Memorial, where goals measured only four feet high x 16 feet long; The MISL's 1981 All-Star Game - played at the World's Most Famous Arena, Madison Square Garden; A January 1985 Cosmos MISL home loss to the San Diego Sockers that portended the team's folding just two weeks later; and US National Team goalie Tony Meola's indoor debut with the New Jersey Ironmen of the one-year Xtreme Soccer League in 2008.

Gabriela Alvares is a student majoring in Communications Media studies and minoring in Public Relations at Quinnipiac University, in Connecticut. She was born in South Africa to parents from Portugal where she calls home. She grew up as a third culture kid and has lived this global and inspirational experience which brought her to her purpose in life.At a young age she was diagnosed with dyslexia and here starts her journey.... Unfortunately, at the time living in Tanzania, a country which had limited or no resources to support people with Learning Differences, she had to learn how to be the best dyslexic in order to succeed. She desperately wanted to be the same as every other student as well as achieve those amazing scores, so it was a realisation and awakening time where she found herself having to work twice as hard. As she transitioned from grade to grade, each year the workload increased so the challenges became tougher but never never gave up. Her good support network with great teachers at school and her family at home she was always encouraged to keep going. Her self-esteem was her biggest struggle, she was labelled with dyslexia which had an immediate connection to all the negative prejudices possible, especially at a young age, you fear to be labeled by other kids as< "stupid" or "dumb".She learned the skills to advocate for herself and this is when she realised her voice is her biggest strength and she wants to share her story to inspire others to develop skills and tools do thrive despite a learning difference.Gabriela’s goal in life is to be a learning difference advocate, she wants to share her story to inspire young children and let them know that they can do anything that they set their minds too. She wants to create awareness of the topic and fighting the stigma associated with any learning difference. DYS does not mean “not able” because we are all able, sometimes it just takes different routes to get to the same place as others.TAKEAWAYS FROM THIS EPISODE:Having a learning difference means you need to learn to become your own advocate.Getting a diagnosis for a learning difference (for example dyslexia) helps students and adults getting accommodations in school and in the workplace. Dyslexia is a learning difference, it is not a mental health issue. There is still a lot of misinformation and stigmatisation around the topic of dyslexia around the globe.Gabriela’s goal is becoming an activist and raising awareness around the topic of learning differences and especially dyslexia.MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE:Gabriela Alvares on LinkedInAbility MediaFocus and Learning Center on facebookQuinnipiac UniversitySupport the show (https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/UnleashMonday)

Johnson serves on the ministry team at Revival Tabernacle in Watsontown, PA where he is an associated pastor, youth minister, and leads the Kingdom Writers' guild. He is formerly a film reviewer for Christian Spotlight on Entertainment (www.christiananswers.net). Follow him on Twitter: @theREELBrian ABOUT THE BOOK - SEND JUDAH FIRST A young girl's life is shattered when she is stolen from her African village in a midnight raid. Ruthlessly torn from her family to be beaten, chained, degraded, and enslaved in a heartless world she can barely comprehend. The slave ledger at Virginia's Belle Grove Plantation only reveals that Judah was purchased to be the cook, gave birth to 12 children, and died in April 1836. But, like the other 276 faceless names entered in that ledger, Judah lived. Brian C. Johnson's important work of historical fiction goes beyond what is recorded to portray the depth, humanity, and vulnerability of a beautiful soul all but erased by history. For Judah, as Johnson notes, “did the ultimate—she survived. Not as a weakling, but resilient and determined.”

It is not every historian who would offer readers an attempt to explain human nature. In A History of Communications: Media and Society from the Evolution of Speech to the Internet (Cambridge University Press, 2011), Marshall Poe does just that. At the same time, Poe guides readers through the history of communications media from the origin of speech through the culture of the Internet, and provides us with a carefully-articulated theoretical framework for explaining why successive media arose when and where they did, and how they have shaped the way people understand and organize themselves. The book is structured with extraordinary care, but doesn't let that structure overwhelm the vibrant collection of examples, tales, and (occasionally quite funny) anecdotes along the way. Poe's writerly voice is wonderfully engaging and colloquial, and he has given us a volume that is full of opportunities for critical reflection on the possibilities of interdisciplinary scholarship across the arts and sciences. Give the interview a listen. In addition to being an account of an ambitious project with potentially wide-ranging implications for many fields, it's also a rare opportunity to hear the interviewer interviewed.

The book is structured with extraordinary care, but doesn’t let that structure overwhelm the vibrant collection of examples, tales, and (occasionally quite funny) anecdotes along the way. Poe’s writerly voice is wonderfully engaging and colloquial, and he has given us a volume that is full of opportunities for critical reflection on the possibilities of interdisciplinary scholarship across the arts and sciences. Give the interview a listen. In addition to being an account of an ambitious project with potentially wide-ranging implications for many fields, it’s also a rare opportunity to hear the interviewer interviewed.
