Today, Danielle White, owner of Lakeside Therapy LCC, LPC, RPT-S, joins me on the podcast and we discuss the concept of neuro synchrony and its implications to parenting. In our womb, our children imprint our nervous system and are connected to us on a deeper level throughout their lifespan. That is why one of the first things that happens after birth is the nurses placing the baby, skin to skin, on our chest to help them regulate breathing, temperature, and blood pressure. Has your toddler ever gotten upset and struggled to calm down, and then you get frustrated and struggle to calm down, and then everything erupts into chaos? That is directly impacted by neuro synchrony. It is a multi-directional phenomenon that contributes to moments of stress but can also be used for good. This is why it is so important to take care of ourselves so we can teach our children how to take care of themselves. Danielle shares how losing our cool is totally normal and goes on to explain when it goes beyond normal, and you may need some additional resources. She also has incredibly helpful tips for how to build positive neuro synchrony with our infants, kids, and moody teenagers. Please listen, like, and share with all of your friends. In my mind, there isn't a parent that doesn't need to hear this conversation. (embracelivethrive.com)Danielle Bio: Hi, my name is Danielle White. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor. I believe in a holistic approach, meaning that I want to help you heal in all areas of your life, not just pieces of it. I specialize in early childhood play therapy (ages 18 months-5) but also work with individuals 5-18 and at times adults. What is play therapy you ask? It is a therapeutic approach for ages 2-12 that offers children a way to grow and heal through their natural language of play. It is widely known that children understand and process things much differently than adults. So why then should we expect to treat children in a therapeutic setting with a traditional talk therapy approach, as if they were adults? Children are not ready to process difficulties merely through verbal processing. Children practice and learn the most through playing, and play therapists use that strength to help children overcome adverse situations and everyday difficulties. The goal of a play therapist is to bring about understanding and help develop a variety of skills in children through playing. Everything in the playroom is there for the purpose of facilitating understanding. When children are struggling with something, they will enter the playroom and naturally gravitate towards something that provides an outlet to process that struggle. For example, a child struggling with the death of a loved one might use dolls or animal miniatures to act out a family member being with the family and then suddenly disappearing. A play therapist's role is to take confusing, scary, negative experiences, and communicate them in a way the child understands, or help the child process in a way that is age appropriate.

I asked, ‘How many of you in this room were hired by way of employee referrals?' Almost all of them raised their hand. I said, ‘That's why we don't have diversity.' Because we're reling heavily on employee referrals and we're referring people that look like us. So, if we want to do this differently, go outside of your network. *Encore presentation from January 2018* Join co-hosts Danielle and Garrett J White with Week Two of the Date Your Wife Podcast, in which they share two VERY different views of how they were raised with money (or without) and how that has affected their relationship as a married couple. In This Week’s Podcast….MONEY Point #1: Having Expensive Tastes In Which Money Matters Money causes a ton of chaos within marriage, which will make or break the relationship, forcing you to deal with your spouse on a whole new level. Danielle was raised by entrepreneurs that focused on having a home that was up to date and something to have pride in, while to Garrett having a lot of money was unattainable unless you were a doctor with a swimming pool in your backyard, like a kid he remembers from school. QUESTION What kind of background were you raised in that has effected the way in which you approach your outlook on money within marriage? Point #2: The War of Spending Money Danielle spent money because she wanted to experience life, but for Garrett, money was about spending money on business, which he still struggles with, as they throw each other under the bus in how they spend money. According to Danielle is being a selective cheap bastard until her perspective of her role as a Stylist rather than a Hobbyist she was able to change. QUESTION If you could throw your spouse under the bus, what do you think they struggle with when it comes to spending money? Point #3: ATMs and Porn Stars Garrett felt like the only way he had value was if he made money, and therefore when he makes money Danielle should put out for sex any time he wants. Women want to feel safe and secure, so it becomes hard to have sex with him when he’s no longer attractive as the Producer, and the man in the relationship doesn’t feel like he’s providing value to the relationship because of this role as well, in which his balls get cut off mentally. QUESTION What does being a Producer do to bring out the sexual dynamic within marriage? Point #4: Learning from What Didn’t Work: The Cancun Contract With the Cancun Contract, it was 3 for 3: 3 Gifts for 3 sex sessions which led to feeling more like they were purchasing prostitution in an attempt to give their marriage a shot at what would work for them based off of their own love languages for 3 weeks, learning that using money as a manipulator didn’t work but ended to bigger breakthroughs later on. Garrett learned to invest because he wanted his wife to be happy, looking at money as a tool, not an asset by shifting his wife towards being the asset, showing that Danielle matters to him. QUESTION Where can you invest in your spouse with no strings attached, investing in experiences with your spouse and family? Where do you still need to give yourself permission to receive without guilt? Point #5: I Want You To Want To Hold yourself to a higher standard in order to push your spouse to become more, believing in them more than they believe in themselves. At one point, Garrett made a huge realization that sometimes the man is the ATM, and you need to be OK with it because it shows that she is worth the investment. Danielle is a producer on her own, but she wanted him to want to be a man in seeing the value of investing in her. Now, they have both surrendered and invested in each other. QUESTION How can a woman powerfully support and invest emotionally in her husband to encourage him to become a bigger producer? Date Night Topic: What improvements can be made in regards to the topic of money? Quote of the Week: “I was raised to feel that you could get whatever you wanted in life if you are willing to work, but no one was going to save you. I didn’t know that I could want anything more than what I had. I learned that I needed to demonstrate in my marriage that my wife is worth spending money on and worth the investment.” —Garrett J White “If you want to be treated like a Queen, you’ve got to treat your man like a King. Women need to own their part and let go of the guilt when your husband invests in you. Stop getting stuck in the stories that your man isn’t fulfilling you, and realize that you may not be fulfilling his needs. If he’s putting in effort, take the gifts he’s giving you and see how it feels to then harmonize in fulfilling his needs.” —Danielle White
*Encore Presentation from March 28, 2019. Are you the train wreck that people can’t stop watching? Do you spread gossip and negativity on social media? Or do you use Social Media as a tool to share and connect with others and to find inspiration? These are some of the questions addressed inside this week’s episode of the Big Money Stylist with your co-hosts Danielle White and Ani Rivera. In Big Money Stylist, we go over the following formula each month: Week #1: Power Week #2: Production Week #3: Profit Week #4: Protection In This Week’s Episode…..Power Point #1: Social Media Trolls People who troll others on social media get a sense of purpose and validation from doing that. This attracts more haters and sparks even more negative conversations and energy. Danielle believes that “people who troll don’t give themselves permission to have success in life. They get stuck in their stories and patterns and don’t realize this puts a cap on what they can make and what they can do, literally preventing them from breaking through that threshold.” Where in your world do you know that you are the one creating negative energy? Point #2: Rebuild & Move Forward Ani: “Everyone goes through shit in life. Some shit will break you, and then you rebuild yourself. Some stuff dings you, while other things crack you. It’s a matter of rebuilding yourself and moving forward.” “But some people are so stuck in the story of being a victim that they’re not even willing to go outside of it and see what’s on the other side because it’s all they know. They only know how to be mean and nasty; they only know how to spread vile and shit everywhere.” Where in your world have you made a comeback and re-built your life? Point #3: Take a Stand The more you take a stand on anything, the more kick-back you’re going to receive. If you don’t have the guts to put yourself out there, how do you expect to make it further in life and in business? Danielle: “We teach our students to put out their content and then “put your blinders on.” Learn to take a stand, and then be prepared for the punches that roll in.” Where in your life or inside your business do you know it’s time to take a stand, come what may? Point #4: Are You the Train Wreck? Ani: “Do you see yourself as a train wreck? Everywhere you post, are you just talking shit on other people and bringing out the negativity? You don’t have to be “Positive Polly” but you can say, “Today was a shitty day, and here’s what I did to turn it around.” Or, “Here’s how I felt. Has anyone ever felt like this?” “At this point, I’m pretty much an open book and have nothing to hide. I’m not embarrassed about any decision I have ever made or anything I’ve ever said, nor am I embarrassed about where I am in my life right now. I LOVE my life both professionally and personally, and am grateful for everything in it.” Are you the train wreck that people just can’t stop watching? Point #5: Being OK With Letting Go Having been raised inside the strict bubble of Mormonism, Danielle and Garrett began questioning everything they believed. Danielle felt like she was shrinking from the voices all around her telling her what to do, and in that space, there came a point where they had to be ok with letting go of certain relationships for a time. “From my own experience, I know if you have tunnel vision, even with your family and friends, and you just focus on you and do what you know you need to do, you WILL see results. Remember, results speak louder than words.” Where in your world have you experienced this? Quote of the Week: “As I scroll through social media, sometimes I’ll get triggered, so I ask myself, “Why is that triggering me? Is there a piece of truth in what I’m reading?” —Danielle K White “There’s a purpose behind what we do. We stay here because we love it, because it’s important, and because this is what we’re supposed to do. There’s something inside of us that fuels it.” –Anianne RiveraDocument

Welcome to this week’s episode of the Date Your Wife podcast where married business owners, Garrett and Danielle White, have an entertaining and revealing conversation about the “how to’s” of navigating the ever-changing waters of parenthood. Every week married couple Danielle and Garrett J White share insights and perspectives from within their own lives regarding the following topics discussed each month: Week 1: Sex Week 2: Money Week 3: Parenting Week 4: Communication In This Week’s Podcast…Parenting Point #1: The Trifecta of Insanity Garrett: You can’t be a married businessman with children if you don’t have children. Dogs, guinea pigs, and fish don’t count. We live in a place where people push their dogs around in fucking strollers. To be a married businessman with children means that you have a partner that you are committed to AND you have children. This trifecta of insanity is literally a suicide mission with only two possible outcomes: 1- you win and 2- you lose. QUESTION How are you and your spouse handling the Trifecta of Insanity? Point #2: Once a Mom, Always a Mom Danielle: I don’t think you really have perspective until you actually start having kids. Before having kids, we both worked hard during the week and were pretty much homebodies on the weekends. Looking back, I’m thinking we should have done more. Danielle’s mother told her that even with all of her children grown, she still worries about them making good decisions. Once you’re a mom, you’re always a mom. “Oh shit! But then, you never want anything different once you are a mom, and you can’t imagine your life without your children.” QUESTION How has having children changed your perspective about life? Point #3: The Love of Learning Although a college graduate, Garrett’s passion for learning wasn’t ignited until he read “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” in 2001 as a PE teacher, opening up an entirely different world to him. “I’m addicted to and obsessed with learning and cannot consume enough!” It wasn’t until later in life that Danielle would learn the importance of learning. “You have to have a love for learning, and you have to LEARN to learn. Seeing the person I have become through learning, I wish I would have understood that concept when I was younger.” QUESTION When were you bit by the learning bug? What was the turning point for you? Point #4: Consequences & Boundaries In parenting, where do you draw the line? When do you let your children come to their own conclusions in life after suffering the consequences of their own choices, and when do you hold them accountable to certain standards of behavior? As Garrett and Danielle met with their daughter, teachers, and principal, it was clear that implementing a system of accountability going forward would greatly assist their daughter in achieving her musical aspirations. QUESTION Where in your world do you know it’s time to set up a system of accountability? Point #5: Just the Facts, Please Garrett: Your kids are not always right. Most of the time as a parent when you try to defend your kids from the consequences of life, what you’re doing is defending your own ego and your own self-doubt as a parent. What are the facts? Possibly the greatest gift that you could give your children is to get clear about the facts in front of the other people that matter and involve them in the process of accountability. QUESTION Where in your world is it time to separate the facts from your feelings in order to progress and move forward? Communication Challenge: What is your take on boundaries, consequences, and accountability when it comes to your children? How does it align with your spouse’s take? How does it differ? Date Night Topic: While you’re out on your date this week, have a conversation about how as parents you can instill the love of learning into your children. Quote of the Week: “It’s one thing to build a business and have nothing else to worry about except building that business. It’s another thing to build a business and then get married. And then, it’s a whole other conundrum to build a business, get married, have multiple babies, raise those babies, and inside of that, make a decision to have another baby.” —Garrett J White “Teach your children the importance of learning. If as an adult you want to get ahead in the game or become an overall better human being, life is about learning. If you can teach your children to love to learn, they’ll have more success in their life.” —Danielle K White
Michelle had a wonderful mommy and me getaway to Sarasota with her 22 month old and spoke with a few people who make the destination and its resorts so special. Britney Guertin, Communications and Content Manager for Visit Sarasota County, talks with Michelle about all of the wonderful things to see and do in Sarasota whether traveling as a couple or family. Danielle White and Jeff Mayers, director of spa and GM of The Resort at Longboat Key Club, chat with Michelle about her stay at the property, including their fitness, spa, tennis, golf, cuisine, gorgeous beaches and upcoming renovations. Michelle could not have experienced so much at the resort if it wasn't for Elite Family Care. Debra Fortosis, founder, talks about how her company helps vacationing families with sitters as well as giving locals nanny placements and senior companion care.
Garrett and Danielle are proponents of dating your spouse at least once a week. They understand that adding young children to the mix can sometimes present a challenge but know that your relationship MUST come first if you want it to last. In this week’s episode, the White’s share tips for what has worked for them (as well as what hasn’t worked for them) in their quest to find babysitters and nannies. Where they ultimately hit the jackpot might actually surprise you. Every week married couple Danielle and Garrett J White share insights and perspectives from within their own lives regarding the following topics discussed each month: Week 1: Sex Week 2: Money Week 3: Parenting Week 4: Communication In This Week’s Podcast….PARENTING Point #1: Routines & Consistency Both Garrett and Danielle feel like this podcast has been so good for their marriage. It’s as if the listening audience has become their sounding board and allows them to be better communicators with each other without completely flipping their lids and going off on each other. Danielle: In life, once you get out of your routine it’s so easy to lose your momentum. It’s in doing the small things consistently that keep us on track to build the large things; it’s the small and consistent things in marriage that keep a relationship stable and progressing. QUESTION What are you doing consistently inside of your relationship that is noticeably making a difference in the way you feel about and communciate with each other? Point #2: Baby Talk In the land of pregnancy and babies, when a woman is overdue it is a common understanding that having sex helps induce labor. Danielle’s experience with their two previous babies was that within an hour of having sex, the contractions began. Garrett attributes it to his “very aggressive sperm.” Danielle’s well thought out plans for the gender reveal went sideways as the waves washed out the pink and blue smoke bombs she had carefully buried in the sand. Garrett accidentally reveals the gender of the baby during the podcast. QUESTION Did your gender reveal turn out as planned? Point #3: Family Affair? A lot of times, people think they can only trust their family to watch their kids. Danielle has discovered that having someone other than family might actually be better for you and your kids. From her personal experience, she would rather hire someone to follow her structure and routine instead of having free help from family who want to do their own thing. QUESTION What has been your experience with family watching your children? Point #4: On-Demand Babysitter Gone Awry Garrett wanted to have an on-demand babysitter who was always available. He paid her a salary and got her an apartment close by their home so they would have someone ready to care for the kids whenever he and Danielle wanted to go out. It evolved into a sense of entitlement and a situation where Danielle was having to dance around the babysitter’s schedule. Danielle: Finding a babysitter is like building a business. You assume that people you hire will know what to do, but you should never assume. Find someone that you like and then be clear about the outcome you expect while they’re there. Always keep them in check. People want to know how to win whether it’s a nanny or an employee and will start to retreat when they don’t know how to please you. QUESTION Have you set clear outcomes and expectations for your babysitters? Point #5: Care.com: Your Shit is Legit By far the best decision Garrett & Danielle have made when it comes to finding a babysitter or nanny for their children is going through care.com. Garrett advises, “Request your babysitters driven by a dollar value, and when they turn in their application, make sure they send you a video.” “You’re investing in the guardianship of your children. If you’re paying a lot of money, set clear outcomes and expectations. If you look at the overall investment on a monthly basis, you’re investing in your marriage. 1-What’s your marriage worth? 2-How much are your children worth?” QUESTION Are you being a cheap bastard when it comes to hiring someone to watch your children? Communication Challenge: Have a conversation about Date Night, and the challenges you are currently facing that are stopping you from going out consistently with your spouse. Get clear about what you want from your marriage, and what you can do to begin making Date Night a top priority in your marriage. Date Night Topic: Have a brainstorming session about the things you and your spouse want to do on your Date Nights for the next couple of months. Quote of the Week: “If you care about your marriage and want things to work out, you go on Date Nights. If you care about your communication and sex life, go on Date Nights. To pull that off, you’re going to have to go through some trial and error before you find what works for you.” —Garrett J White “Whether it’s family or someone you pay, there are really no excuses when it comes to creating Date Night and space for yourselves as a couple. It becomes a matter of making it a priority.” —Danielle White
(This is an encore presentation of a previously published episode of the Date Your Wife podcast.) In this week’s episode, Garrett and Danielle discuss the importance of communicating with your spouse. They have not always been on the same page as a couple, and for many years they each wondered if their marriage would survive the incessant fights and battles that had become the status quo and mode of communication in their relationship. Inside of that chaos, they discovered the formula that works for them. Every week married couple Danielle and Garrett J White share insights and perspectives from within their own lives regarding the following topics discussed each month: Week 1: Sex Week 2: Money Week 3: Parenting Week 4: Communication In This Week’s Podcast….COMMUNICATION Point #1: Communication in Marriage is the Glue Between Sex, Money, and Kids Garrett and Danielle have not always been on the same page as a couple. For many years they each wondered if their marriage would survive the incessant fights and battles that had become the status quo and mode of communication in their relationship. Danielle learned how to confront and listen to her feelings, communicate, stand up for herself and voice what she was feeling to match Garrett’s strong personality. Garrett struggled with telling the truth and sharing what he was feeling because he felt unsafe in doing so with Danielle. QUESTION How do you and your spouse communicate with each other? Does it create a safe zone or a war zone? Point #2: The Game of Collision Danielle grew up in a non-communicating and non-hugging family, although she instinctively knew her parents loved her. Garrett’s family was very touchy-feely and were encouraged to speak openly and freely about what they were feeling and thinking. Hugs and ‘I love you’ were the norm. Garrett recalls, “It was a downright hug fest.” Garrett wanted to share his 42 gallons of feelings with Danielle, but her tiny thimble couldn’t hold that space for him. She wasn’t taught how to communicate and was feeling overwhelmed, which caused her to unknowingly push him away to create breathing space for herself. QUESTION What types of communication styles did you and your spouse experience in your families? How has this affected the way you communicate in your marriage? Point #3: Show Up and Pay Attention While dating, Danielle and Garrett could talk for hours and hours. After marriage, the filters came off, the grind of daily life set in, and they eventually found themselves drifting into roommate status. There was no connection and no viable communication. His unspoken message that business came first rang out loud and clear to Danielle. Garrett didn’t spend a lot of time seducing Danielle, nor did he pay attention to the needs of his young bride of 20. He was in the work and grind mode which benefited them, yet in the process, he ignored her. He wanted to feel connected to Danielle through sex, touching, and talking – yet that was a complete turn off to her because of their lack of connection and how he wasn’t showing up for her. QUESTION How do you show up for your spouse? Point #4: What You Focus On, Expands The loss of their spark, trust, and financial stability, coupled with the demise of their communication, created a very difficult environment for them as a couple. They graduated from not communicating at all to all-out fighting mode in every conversation; they wanted to spend time with other people, rather than with each other. Garrett was receiving emotional fulfillment by having conversations with his female clients and coworkers. During this time in 2010, while pregnant with their second child, Danielle stopped looking to Garrett as the source of her happiness and breadwinner, and instead began looking within herself with newfound courage to speak freely and to take on life – without him, if necessary – which resulted in the birth of her business. That was also the beginning of the turning point in their marriage. QUESTION Where do you put your energy and focus? How is it enhancing or detracting from your relationship? Point #5: A Threesome Will Help You Keep Your Game On Point Upon discovering their different Love Languages, Garrett learns he has been giving Danielle what he wants to receive, rather than what she wants and needs. Couples and individual therapy enabled them to get past the triggers and blowing up stage while keeping them inside the fight and conversation. Garrett shares that therapy and third-party conversations are what saved their marriage. Danielle advises: Be real about your feelings during therapy – even if it means arguing in front of the therapist or spontaneously jumping up and doing burpees and push-ups. QUESTION Are you giving your spouse what you want to receive, or are you giving them what theywant and need? Communication Challenge: Begin discovering your love languages and take action on giving to your spouse what they want and need. Date Night Topic: Engage in the conversation with your spouse about starting therapy together. Quote of the Week: “The thing that saves our marriage more than anything, is Date Night. It’s the simplest part of the form of the game in restoring communication, connection, passion, fashion, love, and everything else inside of marriage.” —Garrett J White “A lot of time with the love languages, it’s not your love language, but you get to cross that boundary to get your own fucking love language met. I used to say, ‘I don’t want to do this. It’s not me. It’s not how I was raised.’ I learned quickly that if I want my needs met, I have to serve him – and vice-versa.” —Danielle White
In this week’s podcast, Garrett and Danielle are back at it again as they have a conversation about the seduction game and the importance of knowing what your partner needs; otherwise, the sexual victim card gets played. Every week married couple Danielle and Garrett J White share insights and perspectives from within their own lives regarding the following topics discussed each month: Week 1: Sex Week 2: Money Week 3: Parenting Week 4: Communication In This Week’s Podcast….SEX Point #1: Seduction and Sex In the conversation of seduction, Danielle shares how seducing Garrett can be as simple as her walking through the room wearing some cute, lace panties or slowly undressing, whereas seeing Garrett confident and in his element is far more seductive and sexy to her than watching him prance around in a thong. Doing your business in private vs doing it with the door wide open proves to be a spicy topic. When playing the game, “Things That Guarantee You Will Not Get Laid,” the friend zone, tampons, hairy ass cheeks, and the naggy bitch mode top the list. QUESTION What tops your couple’s list of Things That Guarantee You Will Not Get Laid? Point #2: Tracking and Lacking Back when their marriage was a shit show, Danielle thought the only reason Garrett was helping out was to get laid, which was actually true. He felt he had earned sex because of all of the things he was doing for her. She noticed the difference in his energy and attitude when they had sex vs when she withheld sex from him. Garrett found himself in an isolation and desperation game while tracking how much sex they weren’t having. As a man who had been successful in breaking the codes in his businesses, Garrett was trying to figure out how to break his wife’s code, hoping his gifts to her would result in a blow job for him. Danielle was pissed because he was tracking, Garrett was pissed because his sex life was lacking. QUESTION In what ways is your relationship similar to their “shit show” years? Point #3: The Leverage Game A man tends to leverage money and power to get sex, whereas a woman will leverage sex to get the power she wants. Garrett felt hurt and angry for being rejected sexually, while Danielle continually had her guard up and felt like she was always walking on eggshells. Garrett’s constant challenge became: When is my wife going to want me? He began strategizing, which backfired and began killing the attraction between them. Danielle was watching from the sidelines and figured he was a ticking time bomb. QUESTION How are you playing the Leverage Game in your marriage? Point #4: Men: Take the Sexual Victim Card Off the Table Although Danielle and Garrett existed in a space better than war, it wasn’t victory – it was a place where he needed to get laid, and she wanted peace in the house. Sex became awkward. When men become more powerful in business, they also become more sexually charged. Being completely consumed with the frustration, anger, fear and doubt around this topic of sex, and constantly being rejected, Garrett became a sexual victim. As a married man 100% committed to his wife, until he could stop the war between he and Danielle, he began neutralizing the playing field by handling his needs himself via a sex tool. QUESTION What space are you existing in as a couple? Point #5: Submit and Surrender While Danielle agreed she was being a bitch about withholding sex, Garrett admits he was being a dick and complete asshole by withholding time and energy from her. He would deliberately set up situations for Danielle to fail so he could feel like he had control. Garrett remembers the day he submitted to the reality that Danielle needed him to show up and give a shit as a husband and as a lover, even if he wasn’t getting laid. He was going to direct all of his energy towards her and not hold her hostage anymore. He felt that by giving her space, he would show her that he wanted her as a person, beyond her body, and that he was ALL IN. QUESTION What are the ways you hold your spouse hostage? What behaviors could you let go of that would be a game changer in your relationship? Communication Challenge: Talk about and demonstrate the ways you love seducing and being seduced. Date Night Topic: Do you use Garrett’s formula of TTF? Or a different formula? Talk about the formulas that work for you in your marriage. Quote of the Week: “People would look at us as this attractive couple and I was like fuck that! I’ve got a g*ddamn frozen ice block barbie in a box goin’ on. I don’t get to touch it – nothing! It’s like a doll that I get to look at. I’m like a dog on a leash that’s held just past where the hamburger is sitting, and I’m not ever getting it. And if I do take a bite, I get beat with a fuckin’ stick.” —Garrett J White “You promote me, you talk about me, you say I’m your Queen, so show me! Come over to my side and show me that what you’re preaching is true. If you believe in me, if you believe in my business, if you believe in my vision, then jump on board with me!” —Danielle White
We step away from the normal format of the show in order to hold space for the passing of Larry Harvey. Burner Podcast team members Navjeet Sarna and Tori Massie join Arash to read messages and stories written to and about The Man in the Hat. Listen on iTunes, Stitcher, TuneIn Radio, iHeart Radio, Mixcloud or SoundCloud. ******************* Lynn Marie Morski... I attended my first burn amid much strife in my capoeira life. I had wanted to play in the orchestra that leads the capoeira games, but my low status in the group prevented me from doing so. In capoeira,` your cord (belt) color is a rank like other martial arts, and only the higher cords were allowed to play instruments. But not on the playa. I went to a capoeira class my first day and there were no cords, no hierarchy. When it came time to play, I asked who was going to lead the orchestra. They said whomever could lead...So *I* led. For the first time ever. And I've never looked back. Thanks, Larry, for creating a hierarchy-less paradise for me to find my strength and my home in the orchestra. ******************* Arthur Mamou-Mani... Larry Harvey - you are in our thoughts. The Temple 2018 will be here for you and for the community that you have so deeply inspired and changed for the better. ******************* Amy Vogler…. The result of your little beach bonfire party has changed the course of my life in so many aspects, and exposed me to more love, compassion, & creativity than I thought possible; within the community, and within myself. Thanks for your participation! ******************* Kat Ripley…. R.I.P. Larry Harvey Thank you so much for all you have done for humanity. I think it would be impossible to overstate the positive impact you made across the globe. I don’t know if I can make one one hundredth of an impact on this world as you have, but I promise I will try. ******************* Absinthia Vermut…. I first remember Larry when I was still at Burning Man, two days after the Man burned in 1995. I celebrated my 25th birthday on playa, fell madly in love with Burning Man, and I stayed to clean up. I just couldn't leave! A year earlier, I had moved to San Francisco, a dream I had since I first visited as a young girl. I never dreamed I would find something like Burning Man in an incredible location like Black Rock Desert, but there I was. Home. Two years later, I remember Larry pulling my then boyfriend, Paul Addis, and me into a meeting late one night on Hualapai Playa. We were there with maybe two dozen others as he explained that the sheriff had relieved the gate of its cash, and he needed us to walk around and collect cash donations from participants. Of course, we did. He offered me a lifetime ticket to Burning Man for $500. I was a starving artist and couldn’t afford it, but more importantly, I thought it was a terrible idea and a huge waste of money. There was no way this thing would continue! Turns out Larry was as much of a pitbull with Burning Man as I have been with my absinthe. That was right around the time I started bootlegging absinthe, and Larry was a huge fan, perhaps my biggest. Since his passing, a friend told me that there was a night when Larry, Flash, and Peter were craving absinthe and set out into Black Rock City to find some. To find me. As they wandered through camps asking if Absinthia was camped there, they left a trail of participants asking, “Was that….Larry Harvey?” I have memories of him at the Anon Salons, holding court with a neon green glass in his hand. One memory in particular stands out, where he had five glasses and was quite belligerent. Marian was there and while she was annoyed by his behavior, we also found it hilarious and endearing. A performer named Magenta was there that night and met him on that fifth glass of absinthe, and then wowed us all by spinning in circles with a knife on her scarved head.I once witnessed Larry managing his fame. I was in first camp and saw him on the poop deck. I walked up to say hello, and he said a very formal “Yes, hello” without looking up. A moment later, he did and caught my eye, “OH! Hello dear, how are you?” It was clear that he heard “Hello Larry” often from people he didn’t know. It was interesting to be treated like a stranger and then recognized by a man whom everyone knew. Ah, playa celebrity. But of course, he was more than that. So much more. The moment made me stop and think what it must be like to walk through Black Rock City as Larry Harvey. Have you ever thought about that? The last time I saw Larry was burn night 2017. I was walking back from the burn to Marian’s absinthe bar to serve my absinthe, my burn night tradition. I had just witnessed a man dive into the fire, and I was completely shell shocked. I remember telling Larry this, and he, too, seemed shell shocked. We didn’t have that nice warm welcome that we usually have. It was too intense of an evening for us all.My favorite story of Larry occured burn night in 2015. I arrived at Marian’s pop up absinthe bar, and no one was around. I found a black baseball cap that said, MEOW, in the bar, and put that on without a second thought. I wandered over to first camp to drum up some interest. I walked in, and Larry caught my eye and gave me a huge smile. Now, Larry had never ever flirted with me before, he was always like an uncle to me, my crazy Uncle Larry, but on this night, I was dressed as Marian, with an all black outfit, a long blonde wig, and the last minute addition of the MEOW hat. Perhaps the only night I have ever not worn green on playa, I was Absinthia dressed as Marian serving Absinthia’s absinthe in Marian’s pop up bar. Larry didn’t leave my side all night. He escorted me back to the bar and I served him and many others absinthe that evening. A lot of absinthe. I said, “MEOW” a lot; what else does one say when they are mimicking Maid Marian? Larry told the story of how he had almost been arrested earlier that night during the burn. The Man was taking forever to burn, and Larry was getting worried. He also wasn’t wearing his Hat - I had witnessed him toss it into the crowd at the GLC a few years prior. He just wasn’t as recognizable without it, and beneath the slowly burning Man, a young LEO, as Larry described him, stopped him and asked him what he was doing so close to the Man, with people lying on the ground nearby watching it burn. “I am worried about it falling,” Larry said.“Well, that is not your concern. Get out of this area.”“Listen, son…” Larry started to say.“Son? Don’t you condescend to me! Now leave this area before I have you arrested and taken away!”Larry loved this story and told it several times that evening. We continued drinking absinthe, talking about such things as what to do about the Plug and Play camps, Larry sharing his ideas about building small Temples in the keyholes, and more. When the evening wore down and we all had more than enough absinthe, Larry offered to drive me, still dressed as Marian, home. I was all the way out in Illumination Village at 3 o’clock and A that year, and welcomed the ride. Larry spent about ten minutes debating with himself whether or not to drive his golf cart or his Jeep, and in the end, the Jeep won. He tried to unlock the door with his key, and I had to hold his arm to help him get the key in the lock. I went around and got in the passenger side to see him put a half full glass of absinthe in the cup holder! “Larry! You are driving me home with a glass of absinthe in the cup holder?” “Of course I am, dear, now let’s get going.” He drove out onto the playa and headed to my camp. “OMG LARRY that is a piece of art!” I hollered when a big something jumped out in front of the car. He slowed down and narrowly missed it. When found my camp, he seemed determined to drive me all the way to my door. Now, IllVille is home to a lot of fire art, which means there are propane tanks, gas lines, and art everywhere. A bad place for anyone to drive, but like I said, he really wanted to drive me to my door. We got to a spot where he had to stop, and I jumped out before he could drive any further into dangerous fire art, grabbed my case of absinthe, and gave him a big hug. I told him I loved him. He seemed embarrassed, and turned his Jeep around and drove home. Thank you, Larry. You created a world I never dreamt I would find. Thanks to you, I found my Island of Misfit Toys and a place where I belong. I came to the playa a shy photographer, hiding behind my camera, and there I found my dreams, my crazy absinthe induced green fairy dreams, and I made them a reality. I am a different person now. We all are. Like all of us, you are flawed, you are human, you are loved. You and your friends gave us the landscape to make magic happen. You left one hell of a trace, my friend.Cheers, Absinthia Vermut ******************* Rebekah Waites... I only met him a few times so don’t really have any stories. I just know that he loved Church Trap and talked about it in interviews. Found out after that he carried a picture of it in his journal. Finding that out meant a lot to me. Only story I have was one on his bday at a party at Headquarters. I didn’t know anyone and am a bit shy. Jennifer Raiser invited me and when i got there told me to go say hi to Larry. When I tried to introduce myself he snapped “I just woke up.” So i ran away. Haha! When Jennifer asked me later if I said hi to him, I said I tried to but it didn’t go over very well. So she told me to go say hi again. This time I caught him in the line for tacos and started to say who I was. His response: “who???!” “Larry... it’s me. Rebekah. Rebekah Waites who did Church Trap.” Aaaaaaaand then I got the biggest hug from Larry and we talked for a moment. It was awesome. I’ll never forget that. ******************* Danielle White... Larry Harvey passed into his next journey. Thank you for the amazing growth, change and experience that this incarnation brought to my life. I am eternally grateful.
A new voice has joined the BMS Team in a permanent way with McKenzi Davis, the newest member of the head BMS Team and stylist inside of the DKW salon. The conversation this week is about Production, specifically taking a close look at all areas of Marketing. ________________________________________________________ For Big Money Stylist, we go over the following formula each month: Week #1: Power Week #2: Production Week #3: Profit Week #4: Protection __________________________________________________ In This Week's Episode.....PRODUCTION Point #1: Marketing: Are You Frozen in Time or Evolving? Danielle: With the market constantly changing and evolving, there's not a set "A-Z Checklist to Making Millions" for people to follow. Test the market and run targeted ads to find out what's working and what isn't, level up your skills, and take advantage of the organic marketing available within social media. Marketing for Coach Val and Coach Kenzie felt foreign at first. Like most stylists, referrals were how they built up their books - that's what they knew and what they were comfortable with. Their mindsets changed once they began seeing their results using social media and paid, targeted ads. QUESTION: When was the last time you invested dollars into your marketing? Point #2: The Art & Seduction of the Close Coach Val (aka: Assassin Closer) has the confidence that when a client sits in her chair, she will be able to produce the results they are looking for. Coach Kenzie says convincing and coaching your clients never works and often results in buyer's remorse. Danielle: If you say you are not good at sales, it's because you need to become better at your craft. Becoming better at your craft leads to loving your work more, which naturally leads to the sale. QUESTION:Are you engaged in the art of seduction or the game of convincing? Point #3: Deliver What You Market Danielle: It doesn't matter how good your marketing is, if you are not an expert at your craft you'll disappoint the marketplace. So stop worrying if you're making more money if you're not the BEST at your craft. Continue to be better. Always strive to be better and through time, results will follow. Coach Ani: We have so much content out on social media, that NBR is a recognizable brand at this point. Everyone knows what it's supposed to look like: the rows, the blend, the cut and color. What we've seen are artists coming in who are not fully committed to doing the work and whose unhappy clients end up reaching out to us. QUESTION: Where would upping your skills lead to better results and happier clients? Point #4: Systems Yield Sustainable and Predictable Results If you can market to anyone and everyone - and you can close them - but you don't have any kind of system in play, that's when shit goes sideways, things fall through the cracks, and you're not really sure where to go from there. Coach Val: We are constantly growing and expanding so every last detail has a system, allowing things to run smoothly, which also enables duplication. When Coach Ani went from pre funnel to post funnel, she saw a complete shift in her clients and no longer played the convincing game. Coach McKenzie: Having a targeted funnel has taken away the stress and heaviness of being a slave, allowing me to have the clients I want - clients that allow me to be an artist doing what I am passionate about. QUESTION: What link in the chain of your systems is broken? Is your marketing reflecting the ideal client you want to have sitting in your chair? Point #5: Capturing Permission Coach Ani: Capturing permission can be a phone number or an email - you are getting their permission in some way, shape or form to contact them. Coach Val: Capturing emails allows you to stay forefront in their mind; it's a fast and efficient way for us to communicate with those who have already been saying yes, allowing them to make decisions in their own time frame. QUESTION: What system do you have in place to capture emails? Quote of the Week: "We are always about testing. Whenever something gets over saturated, it's time to think through things differently. I've always been a big fan of trying to figure out how to get ahead of the game and predictIng where trends are going. Right now, we are doing a shitload of targeted ads through social media to find out what's working and what's not. I think people get freaked out about investing in their business because there's so much free marketing on social media and they put all of this time and engagement on in it, and in the end - when all is said and done - they're getting paid like $4 and hour." -- Danielle White "I'm literally excited for each client! My wheels start turning the night before: I look at my books for the next day and I'm like ‘this is what I'm going to do for this person and I'm already seeing where I want to add dimension; this is where I want to brighten her up.' There's this super artsy side that I never have to let die because I have that right client in my chair, and I get to have the freedom to do what I love. They trust me. I have people coming to me because they like the message I am putting out. I love it." -- Valerie Plunk "You are getting their permission in some way, shape or form to contact them. If you are banking on being able to talk to your 30k following on Instagram whenever you want, what happens when all of a sudden Instagram shuts down and says, "We're done!" That's why having a way to capture their email is so important - and no one can take that away from you because you own that list. They said 'yes' to you." --Anianne Rivera "If you have been thinking about it [Convention], if you are on the fence, if you have been listening to the podcast - there's a reason. There's something inside of you that's telling you this is important. Stop getting frustrated in your job or whatever you're doing and just take the leap. You know you need to. Convention will change everything for you!" --McKenzi Davis Stay Tuned for Next Week's Topic....PROFIT
Not only is the BMS Podcast #95 out of ALL of the podcasts inside of iTunes, it's Number ONE in Fashion and #5 in Arts, so we've noticed that the message being shared is making an impact on others. This week the BMS Team: Danielle, Garrett, Val and Ani talk about how to get beyond the slavery and bondage of being a stylist behind the chair, throwing in a little bit of a wizardry twist for safe measure behind it all. For Big Money Stylist, we go over the following formula each month: Week #1: Power Week #2: Production Week #3: Profit Week #4: Protection In This Week's Episode.....PROTECTION Point #1: Protect Your Mind From Outside Influences 60% to 70% of your success as an Artist - both behind and in front of the chair - comes down to protecting your own psychology. When you don't protect it and allow people's opinions and outside noise to influence you, there's a direct impact on your bank account. You have to have tunnel vision when it comes to the chatter and noise of others. Coach Val: I have to block out the outside noises and opinions of others because it can trickle down into everything, including what I produce behind the chair and how I feel about myself, which slows me down. I can't have that. It's super important to protect my mindset so that I can keep growing and get to where I want to be. QUESTION: When you've allowed other people's opinions to impact or influence you about your own industry - and they're not even in the hair industry - how does it actually affect you in the salon? Point #2: Your Circle of Influence Matters Sometimes when you step outside of the 'acceptable' and unspoken parameters of your social or family group, people inside of these groups start questioning your actions and may even become embarrassed by you. Be willing to feel awkward in order to move forward in life, regardless of what your friends and family may think or say. After losing everything several years ago, Garrett was trying to find his voice again. In the midst of the gossiping and 'shit talking' from close friends and family, Garrett and Danielle knew the only way they were going to pull this off and get their life back on track was to shut everyone out, which included blocking family and friends on social media and moving to another State. QUESTION: Who is in your circle of influence? Are they sucking the life out of you or are they assisting you in your growth? What changes do you feel called to make? Point #3: Clearing the Path Protects Your Future There is another world that you cannot even fathom possible that exists in a different realm beyond whom you are currently giving yourself permission to be as an Artist and businessman or woman, where the excitement, abundance, experience, happiness and Purpose in your life is so much bigger. Oft times the only way for us to protect our future is to clear the path in our present moment with relationships and situations that no longer serve us. An advocate for growth and change, Coach Ani believes that you can't remain the same person. As hard as it was at the time for her to break off her long term relationship and engagement, she knew it was the right decision for her and her continued growth. She was willing to throw fucking caution to the wind and say, "Okay. I have no idea how this is going to play out, but I'm gonna fuckin' try it." QUESTION: What hard choices are right in front of you that you need to give yourself permission to make? Point #4: You Are Your Worst Enemy What do you do when the dark side of you wants to quit? Coach Ani remembers her WHY, she takes a step back to look at the bigger picture, and takes time to recharge herself. Val has found that by sharing her own pain and struggles with other stylists, it gives them permission to push forward, push a little harder and know they are worth making more of their lives. Danielle: It comes down to Purpose. I can't listen to those voices in my head anymore because I know how many people are impacted by what I am doing. QUESTION: What do you do when your own mind becomes your greatest enemy? What has become helpful to you as an Artist? Point #5: Marketing is a Protection Game To protect your Empire, continual marketing is a must, whereas ceasing to market can cause the destruction of that same Empire. When you know your numbers you can go forward with an actual plan, as opposed to just throwing money away in hopes that what you want is actually going to work. Another way of protecting your business is by actually being fucking good at hair. Being an elite Artist is one of the greatest protection moves to a future building of your business and sustaining your current clients. QUESTION: What area are you currently lacking in when it comes to marketing, knowing your numbers, or being an Elite Artist? What changes are you committed to making going forward? Quote of the Week: "The marketing game is always changing, so you have to move with the trends. If you can figure out the marketing game and have success with whatever you're trying to promote, and have figured out that piece of the puzzle, then regardless of where the economy goes, you feel more protected because you know how to market and you know how to rebuild." -- Danielle White "You have to know how to market, but you have to have a skillset that you can deliver on a level that will keep a client coming back. Inside our Elite Mastermind, we have implemented something called Power Practice where the students have to make a commitment of practicing daily for 15 minutes. It may not seem like a lot, but what we've seen is that by doing that 15 minutes every single day, it elevates their skillset immensely. We are holding our students to a higher standard of work that is worthy of the NBR brand that Danielle created." -- Valerie Plunk "Every hard decision you [Danielle] have ever made has not just affected you, Garrett and your children - it's affected everybody. It affected Val and her marriage and family; it's affected every aspect of my life. Everything has come about because you had the strength to stand up one day, change everything about your life and say: This isn't enough. I'm doing more. I'm changing my life." --Anianne Rivera Stay Tuned for Next Week's Topic....POWER ____________________________ Every week you will get to hear from Danielle White, founder of Natural Beaded Rows (NBR), a revolutionary technique with hair extensions discuss Big Money Stylist (BMS) with her trainers Valerie Plunk and Anianne Rivera. In This Week's Episode.....POWER Point #1: Belief in Yourself Behind and in Front of the Chair Danielle: Having a niche, owning your niche and being good at your craft creates power. The belief you have about yourself has an impact on your ability to produce. When I began my career in a small, rural town in Arizona, I believed there was a cap on my earning potential until I had one of those light bulb moments that created a shift within me. When I gained my power and realized the power of marketing, my business began to explode. Coach Ani: Most stylists are stuck in the box of what they believe they can and can't charge based on where they live and what everyone else is charging. It just takes one person finding their power and saying, "Fuck these rules, I'm not doing this! I'm going to make it up as I go because it doesn't matter!" This leads the way for others to do the same. QUESTION: Do you currently have limiting beliefs surrounding your income limitations or capabilities? What are they? Point #2: It's an Inside Job Everything begins with a shift and story inside of you which oft times won't happen until you're mirrored back a new reality by individuals around you who show you what could be possible. This is exactly what the Big Money Stylist experience is and what the NBR tribe is all about. Valuing yourself by saying 'no' raises the bar and creates a powerful place within yourself and your business. Coach Ani shares her inspiring "sink or swim-no means yes" BMS journey and how she chose to make massive moves in her business, moves that first began taking place inside her own head. One by one, she began letting go of the stories: "You're supposed to take on all the clients, offer all the services - you're supposed to do everything! What are you thinking? You're turning away money!" QUESTION: Who do you believe yourself to be? Who must you become in order to be, do, and have what you want? Point #3: The Toleration Game Your life and your business are a result of what you choose to tolerate. There's a toleration game within how stylists and artists are treating themselves, what they have determined is the 'right' thing to do, what they have decided is the accepted modus operandi, and what is 'artistically correct.' So many stylists get stuck in the sacrifice game in the name of making money. Your power is obtained by what you're committed to and drained from what you tolerate. Your life cannot become more than you tolerate. QUESTION:What are some ways you are stuck in the Sacrifice Game by playing the Toleration Game? Point #4: Reversing the Frame The entire industry has been built to teach stylists to go to powerlessness. The highest form of dysfunction inside the game of being an artist is where you don't listen to your own voice anymore - where the client begins dictating your direction. Coach Ani used to be at the beck and call of her clients until she reversed the frame and began seeing herself as the prize. She took control of who she allowed to sit in her chair by setting up an in depth application process, which garnered greater respect from her clients as well as creating a thriving business environment on her terms. The empowerment she felt and experienced in her business bled into all aspects of her personal life. QUESTION: Where in your business will reversing the frame change the game for you? Point #5: Create a Life That Actually Matters to You There are things you are tolerating that need to become intolerable to you. At the top of Coach Ani's list of intolerable's: tardiness and being on call for your clients 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Finding your own power and letting go of bullshit results in turnarounds, breakthroughs, explosive business success, and peace & calm in artists' lives. Create a game and creation inside your artistic place that not only pays you what you're worth, but lets you enjoy your life outside of what you do in the business. QUESTION: What are the top five things (behaviors, obstacles) you are tolerating inside your business - in front of and behind your chair - that if they became intolerable, your business would completely explode? Quote of the Week: "I would get to this place of burnout and say, 'No, I don't want to be there. I don't want to do that!' I love hair. I love being in the game, but I'm going to set my own rules and create my own path." -- Danielle White "I haven't sacrificed shit, I've just let go of things that don't work." --Anianne Rivera Stay Tuned for Next Week's Topic....PRODUCTION
In This Week's Episode.....PRODUCTION Point #1: Currently Sitting Pretty The BMS podcast is in the top ratings across the board as we look into the topic of the day, which is about doing the work as a Producer, coming all of the way down to how each of your hosts were raised economically in regards to how they tackle money. We are changing the script inside of the business of money, especially in regards with hair, receiving the back story to get the full story, according to Danielle. QUESTION: How were you raised to approach money? Point #2: The Lack of Business in Front of the Chair Danielle's upbringing with money pushed her to make her own money and be her own boss, but wasn't taught in hair school any background on business, which was the case for Val and Ani as well. For a stylist there is a booth rent or commission based, which is taught in business school to sit and wait, hoping for a client to come through the door. It takes a lot of discipline to do booth rent and shift the mindset to hustle to get your own leads and learn marketing. QUESTION: As a Stylist in your salon, do you prefer booth rent or commission based work? Point #3: Learning Skills Behind the Chair You won't be able to get the client in the chair to bring out the Artist as a Stylist if you don't know how to do the marketing behind the chair. Danielle saw that regardless of all of the social media and location, Stylists are still being taught the same shit as before, in which one of the lies inside of the game is that working more = more money, debunked by the BMS team. QUESTION: How do you avoid burnout for you within the hair industry? Point #4: How to Market to Carve Out a Specific Niche Know your craft and work smarter, not harder are the messages to teach in regards to being specific about what you as an Artist, analyzing the purpose behind marketing and raising prices to raise skill levels. Attracting clients at a higher pay price shows that you believe in yourself and your art, learning how to handle the fear behind confrontation and defining what makes us passionate, getting paid more for doing a job that you love. QUESTION: What does it mean to you to work smarter, not harder? Point #5: Becoming Strategic in Selling What You Believe In Marketing is the one skill that matters more than anything else inside of being a Stylists, which is what BMS is all about, as each member of the team shares how they hustle their way in Marketing. The Artist rises when the results come, trusting the process that the BMS training works across the board from those willing to do the work. QUESTION: The BMS Team talked about permission to no longer work Saturdays. Where in your world as a Stylist do you need to give yourself permission as well? Quote of the Week: "Work smarter, not harder." --Anianne Rivera, from BMS 1.0 "A Marketer is someone that knows how to project a message, sharing the vision with others on where the Artist wants to go. Pay attention to what sells you and takes you down rabbit holes in social media, then make it your own. For me, I like selling and I'm easily sold, so I learned to pay attention to what other people were saying based off of asking myself, 'what do I like to buy?' doing marketing research. I had to figure out how to put my message out to the market place with a Call To Action and learning how to become strategic in selling something that I believe in." --Danielle White "There are tons and tons of case studies within the BMS program that has given Stylists freedom back because of the Marketing behind the Artist that can have the creativity to do what we love." -Valerie Plunk Stay Tuned for Next Week's Topic....PROFIT Where we close in on the cash!!!! http://bigmoneystylistnow.com
In This Week's Episode.....POWER Point #1:Modern Slave Stylist According to both Coach Val and Ani, if you don't have any freedom as a stylist, you are sacrificing days off and working on the weekends and bending over backwards putting ourselves INTO slavery according to Danielle learning skills to do hair but not the business side of it. It's hard to say no to money, but instead stylists undervalue their time. Success was measured according to how full the books are and how many clients are done in a day, when it comes down to shifting the perspective to make more money working less hours. Question: Where have you as a Stylist found yourself to be a Slave behind the chair? Point #2: The Power Behind Artists and Running Businesses The story in which stylists were told was that you just do what the salon is doing, and there wasn't any emphasis on the business side of things, which Danielle taught within herself to stop operating from the frames that were previously given. If you have no ideas what your numbers are, you will remain stuck, begin to hate your job and clients and bounce OR you can join BMS Live and join the monthly training explained within the podcast by Danielle, Ani and Val. Question: What is the purpose behind your power to do the work that you're doing? Point #3: The Reward of the Ripple Effect Power is about being willing to be uncomfortable to grow and learn, never apologizing for success and standing in your power for who you are, even if it means no longer having certain relationships remain in your life the more clear you become about how you want your power to be. There's a "spidey-sense" is about being in tune with our heart more than our head, even when it doesn't make sense that pushes us beyond the fear listening to a little voice that eventually yells, "We're doing epic shit!" Question: What is the Voice within your heart that tells you something different than what your head is telling you? Point #4: The Power of Association When we surround ourselves with people that are constantly leveling themselves up, they will push us to become a better version of ourselves. Most individuals live and die in guilt and shame, which effects every human being, but a virus at the core for Artists, becoming powerless seeking validation instead of owning success within oneself, keeping the door open for limitless possibilities. Question: Where do you feel guilt and shame over the story that you're telling yourself? Point #5: Gaining Certainty and Progress Through Collaboration One of the challenges that we run into is that we compare our current state with a highlight reel of all of the success that others have, creating a disempowering game of comparison. The Game of Collaboration is about pushing yourself beyond anywhere you've ever gone before by putting blinders on towards anything that doesn't bring inspiration. We all have a story that's pushed us to where we're at. Question: How do you deal with the disempowering game of comparison? Quote of the Day: "Don't apologize for who you are. Play to the biggest version of yourself." --Valerie Plunk "Gaining Power isn't about losing other people, but if you're losing yourself, it could be that you're not standing on your own. When you're sure of your own power, you become clear of where you want to go." --Anianne Rivera "It's the scariest thing to follow your Path of Power that your heart is pulling you when it goes against what others expect from you." --Danielle White Stay Tuned for Next Week's Topic....PRODUCTION Where we'll be dealing with the spicy topic of being liked or getting paid. http://bigmoneystylistnow.com
Of all the recent "religious freedom" legislation passed around the country, perhaps none is so restrictive as North Carolina's "Act to Provide for Single-sex Multiple Occupancy Bathroom and Changing Facilities in Schools and Public Agencies and to Create Statewide Consistency in Regulation of Employment and Public Accommodations". The short version of the bill's name is the "Public Facilities Privacy & Security Act," but it quickly became infamous as HB2. Passed as a response to a non-discrimination ordinance enacted by the city of Charlotte, HB2 removed the protections under that law and others like it, attempted to redefine "sex" under the law, and barred transgender people from using restrooms on state property that conform to their gender. The legal and economic consequences to North Carolina were swift, but so far, neither the legislature nor the governor shows any willingness to overturn the bill. On this week's show, Jenn Wilson and Peggy Knudtson talk to Chris Brook, Legal Director of the American Civil Liberties Union of North Carolina, about the ACLU's suit against the state. Peggy Knudtson and Stephanie Zvan also speak with Danielle White, a transgender activist engaging in civil disobedience against HB2.
