After Robin Proudie learned that 25 of her ancestors were born into enslavement by St. Louis University Jesuit Catholics, she founded Descendants of St. Louis University Enslaved to ensure institutional accountability and commemoration of the enslaved people who helped build the school. Proudie, now a SLU undergrad, provides an update on the group's work to secure an official public apology from the university, a permanent monument and cash reparations.

For some years there have been suggestions that in the 1860s Tom Wills, Australia's first sports hero and a founder of Australian rules football, may have taken part in the massacres of Gayiri people in central Queensland. Now, in a Guardian Australia investigation, Indigenous affairs reporter Ella Archibald-Binge travels in search of the truth behind the allegations. In this two-part special Full Story, she and Lorena Allam from the University of Technology Sydney's Jumbunna Institute discuss how families on both sides of the conflict are reckoning with the truth of their ancestors' colonial past

Colonial pastoralist Major Logue is a figure of note in the city of Geraldton, Western Australia. But his diaries, written partly in code, reveal a dark and confronting chapter of Australia's past – a history that Yamatji people already know all too well. Descendants of some perpetrator families are now challenging what they call “colonial silence”. For them, truth-telling is real, personal and local. There are no guidelines or rulebooks, and it can lead to denial and indifference – but it can also be a liberation. Plan Dulce Host Bryan Lima (he/him) is joined by Álvaro D. Márquez (they/them/theirs), an artist, researcher, and philanthropy professional in Los Angeles County. They discuss Álvaro's personal life experiences in education, art making, research and inquiry into history and cartography and how it all informs their practice creating visual art through printmaking, fiber-art, installation and sculpture.Bio and Links:Álvaro D. Márquez (they/them/theirs) is an artist, researcher, and philanthropy professional. They grew up in the working-class immigrant community of East Salinas, CA and reside in Los Angeles County. Descendant of three generations of migrant field workers, they hold a BA in U.S. history from Brown University, an MA in American Studies and Ethnicity from the University of Southern California, and an MFA in Printmaking from CSU Long Beach. They are also currently pursuing a PhD in Cultural Studies from Claremont Graduate University. Their work explores displacement as a key modality in the development of Western, settler-colonial expansion, encompassing issues around Indigenous dispossession, homelessness, segregation, and gentrification. At the root of their interdisciplinary practice is an examination of the privatization of land as a commodity, and the long-lasting effects of settler colonialism on the built and natural environment. Their work is situated in the intersection of printmaking, installation, and sculpture. They have exhibited their work across the US, Mexico, and Germany, and their work has been collected by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, the Hood Museum of Art at Dartmouth College, and the U.S. Library of congress. The White House, Smithsonian, NY Times Washington Post, PBS Have featured the Quander Families nearly 340 Year Roots BEFORE the forming of the United States of America to Now. This Week I Look at Highlighs of Life & Time of America's Archived Oldest Black Families: the AmQuando Families Journey & Present Day Walk in America My Guest is Rohulamin Quander, a native Washingtonian, is a retired Senior Administrative Law Judge for the District of Columbia. He is also a member of the Quander Family whose distinguished history in the Washington, D.C. area is traced to the 1670s, which legacy includes Mount Vernon Plantation ancestors Sukey Bay, Nancy Carter Quander, and West Ford, among others, all of whom were in involuntary service to George Washington. Judge Quander periodically serves as an advisor to Mount Vernon, most recently in the exhibit, Lives Bound Together, Slavery at George Washington's Mount Vernon, and still maintains close ties. He often serves as a guest lecturer on African American History. A double graduate from Howard University, from which he received his J.D. degree, Judge Quander founded the Quander Historical and Educational Society, Inc., a 501 (c)(3) foundation in 1985. The Society was established to document, preserve, protect, and share the history of the Quander Family, a product widely recognized as an educational tool. His continued years of service include addressing human and civil rights inequities among the Dalit (Untouchable) population of India, one of his ancestral homelands. To date, the author of four books, Judge Quander's newest book is titled, The Quanders – Since 1684, An Enduring African American Legacy. Judge Quander is also a licensed and certified District of Columbia tour guide. His tours feature traditional Monuments and Memorials, African American History and Culture, and can also be tailored to your personal needs and wishes. Married to Carmen Torruella Quander, internationally acclaimed artist, they have three adult children and one grandchild. La colonisation de l'Amazonie, encouragée par l'État brésilien dans les années 1970, s'est faite dans le désordre au détriment des populations locales et de l'environnement. Aujourd'hui, difficile de faire le tri entre titre foncier légal et faux document. Et comme les procédures de régularisation étaient longues et complexes, le gouvernement local a mis en place, il y a 15 ans, un système d'enregistrement numérique plus efficace, explique Bruno Kono, président de l'Institut des Terres du Pará. « À ce jour, nous avons régularisé environ 1,8 million d'hectares de terre. Cela permet aux propriétaires d'affirmer leurs droits, mais aussi de respecter leurs obligations, comme préserver la forêt qui se trouve sur leur propriété. Cela permet donc d'empêcher la déforestation, explique-t-il. Et il y a un système de contrôle par satellite qui peut déboucher sur des amendes. » L'Amazonie menacée par le crime organisé Ce système de régularisation des terres, soutenu par l'Agence française de développement (AFD), intéresse désormais d'autres gouvernements locaux. Mais il faut le renforcer, plaide Dominique Hautbergue, directeur de l'AFD au Brésil. Car la forêt ne fait plus seulement face qu'à la menace de l'agro-industrie. « Le crime organisé s'empare des richesses de l'Amazonie, avec l'exploitation du bois illégale, avec l'orpaillage illégale, avec les trafics de drogues, le trafic d'êtres humains, et ça, c'est une vraie nouveauté en Amazonie. Maintenant, c'est aussi géré par des groupes organisés de grande ampleur et qui sont affiliés au crime organisé », raconte-t-il.  Cet accaparement des terres, la forêt en souffre, tout comme les indigènes et les afro-descendants qui y vivent. C'est le cas d'Aurelio Borges, membre d'une communauté quilombola. « Ils envahissent le territoire des quilombolas et installent des clôtures de fils barbelés. C'est une manière de nous en empêcher l'accès et d'expulser les communautés. C'est une pratique courante, ça arrive constamment ! Parfois, c'est des clôtures, parfois, c'est en ouvrant une route qui coupe nos territoires sans autorisation. Une fois, un quilombola a été tué par balles, il cueillait des baies dans une zone que la communauté utilise pour subvenir à ses besoins, mais un gros propriétaire agricole a affirmé que ça lui appartenait. Il a fait appel à des capangas, des milices armées, chargées de protéger le territoire des exploitants. Ces pistoleros provoquent des conflits et finissent par détruire nos plantations. Des fois, quand les pirogues sont déjà chargées de baies, ils les retournent et tout est jeté dans la rivière. C'est un impact constant », explique-t-il. Et malgré les progrès, pour ces populations, l'accès à un titre foncier reste difficile. Genesis 3:1-24   Now the serpent was more cunning than any animal of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God really said, ‘You shall not eat from any tree of the garden'?” 2 The woman said to the serpent, “From the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat; 3 but from the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat from it or touch it, or you will die.'” 4 The serpent said to the woman, “You certainly will not die! 5 For God knows that on the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will become like God, knowing good and evil.” 6 When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took some of its fruit and ate; and she also gave some to her husband with her, and he ate. 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves waist coverings. 8 Now they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. 9 Then the Lord God called to the man, and said to him, “Where are you?” 10 He said, “I heard the sound of You in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid myself.” 11 And He said, “Who told you that you were naked?
