In this morning's message from Pastor Rick Renner he shares how the Holy Spirit equips us for spiritual battles. We don't have to earn or work for the armor of God—it's freely given. As Ephesians 6:11 says, "Put on the full armor of God," or "clothe yourself", reminding us that God has already provided what we need, we just have to settle into our clothes and get comfortable!

As more carbon dioxide accumulates in the atmosphere, the urgency is growing for safe and sustainable methods to remove this main greenhouse gas from the air to limit the impact of climate change.  Synopsis: Every first and third Sunday of the month, The Straits Times analyses the beat of the changing environment, from biodiversity conservation to climate change. CO2 is the main greenhouse gas in the atmosphere. We can't see it, we can't smell it but we can definitely feel its growing impacts as the planet heats up with devastating consequences. And every year, it keeps accumulating.  Human activity is producing about 40 billion tonnes of CO2 a year. That's mainly from burning fossil fuels and deforestation.  To fight climate change, we not only need to slash CO2 emissions, we would also need to remove billions of tonnes that our human activities had earlier emitted into the atmosphere.  And that means dramatically scaling up carbon dioxide removal technologies. We'll never reach the Paris Agreement's climate targets by 2050 unless we remove at least four times more CO2 from the atmosphere every year than we do at present. That's the conclusion of a major study on carbon dioxide removal released in June 2024.  So what exactly is carbon dioxide removal, or CDR? And what is needed to really get investment pumping? In this episode, ST's climate change editor David Fogarty hosts one of the lead authors of the report, Gregory Nemet, a Professor at the University of Wisconsin–Madison's La Follette School of Public Affairs in the United States.  Greg studies the process of technological change and the ways in which public policy can affect it. Highlights of conversation (click/tap above): 1:44 How does carbon dioxide removal (CDR) help in the fight against climate change? 3:12 The difference between CDR and carbon capture and storage (CCS) 4:58 Main findings from the recently published global report on CDR  7:58 Examples of the different types of CDR  11:43 What are the costs? 19:55 What are the environmental risks from CDR? How to ensure scaled-up methods can be sustainable? 164 - Using the Tools of the Creative Today, we will explore the concept of creativity and how it applies to our everyday lives. I'll be sharing some insights from Adam Savage's book, "Every Tool is a Hammer", as well as my own experiences with podcasting and project management. First up, let's talk about the power of deadlines. As creators, we all have unique ways of expressing ourselves, but sometimes we need a little push to make decisions and move forward. That's where deadlines come in - they can help us prioritize and fine-tune what's truly important in our projects. I'll be sharing some tips on how to set effective deadlines and how they've helped me improve my own work. Next, we'll delve into the world of project management and diagramming. Even if you're not a natural artist, there are plenty of tools and apps available to help you create diagrams and visualize your work. I'll be sharing my own experience with using Visio to diagram a project plan at work, and how it helped us identify a crucial gap in our process. Then, we'll explore the concept of learning by iterations. It's all about understanding that the first few attempts at something may not be perfect, but each attempt gets us closer to perfection. Embrace the journey of creativity, even when it doesn't go as planned. Sometimes, the most joy comes from the unexpected turns in our creative journey. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98S4m-uZe9Y https://startwithsmallsteps.com/?p=3759 Jill's Links https://www.buymeacoffee.com/smallstepspod https://twitter.com/SmallStepsPod Email the podcast at jill@startwithsmallsteps.com

Anyone can be a creator, no matter what activity or project they choose. I'll be sharing some ideas from the book Every Tool's a Hammer. Life is What You Make It by Adam Savage and insights about the power of passion and obsession in driving creative pursuits. Additionally, I'll be highlighting the significance of creating detailed lists and organizing tasks to maintain focus and momentum. Are you familiar with the concept of "knolling"? I'll be discussing it and the importance of setting up a workspace or environment that is conducive to creativity and productivity. Collaboration is key, and I'll be stressing the value of seeking help when needed rather than trying to tackle everything independently. I know that challenges may arise during the creative process, but I want to encourage you to persevere and complete projects with attention to detail. Adam Savage has spent his life gathering skills that allow him to take what's in his brain and make it real, working with every material and in every medium he could fathom — metal, paper, glass, plastic, rubber, foam, plaster, pneumatics, hydraulics, animatronics, neon, glassblowing, mold-making and injection molding to name just a few. In 1993, Adam began concentrating his career on the special-effects industry, honing his skills through more than 100 television commercials and a dozen feature films, including Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace and Episode II: Attack of the Clones, Galaxy Quest and the Matrix sequels. A decade later, Adam was chosen along with Jamie Hyneman to produce and host MythBusters, which premiered on Discovery Channel in January 2003. Fourteen years, 279 episodes, 1,015 myths, 2,950 experiments, eight Emmy nominations and 83 miles of duct tape later, that version of the series ended in March 2016. A few years later, Adam hosted and executive produced MythBusters Jr. as well as a solo series, Savage Builds, for Discovery Channel. Today, Adam stars in and produces content for his YouTube channel Tested, including a popular build series (Adam Savage's One Day Builds) and behind-the-scenes deep dives into multiple blockbuster films (including Alien Covenant, Mortal Engines and Blade Runner 2049.) In 2019 Adam finished his first book, Every Tool's a Hammer, which is a chronicle of his life as a maker.

There's a really cool book out there called "Every Tool's a Hammer" by Adam Savage. While the book isn't necessarily about using a screwdriver as a hammer, I think it is an interesting idea. We want to use tools in a way that's effective and can get the job done, even if that means the wrench next to us is a hammer sometimes. Today, let's do an InFlow review of every tool I've talked about so far. We'll do a quick pros and cons list of SOLIDWORKS PDM, Manage, 3DEXPERIENCE, DriveWorks, and CATIA.

I had something else planned for this episode, but I got a little surprise in the mail and decided to go in a different direction. On Wednesday of last week, as I went to take Cooper on his ten o' clock walk, I noticed a big padded envelope on the front porch with the words “UNSOLICITED GIFT” written on the outside. Now, I can be a little strange about gifts, even the ones I know are coming, so when one just shows up anonymously I sometimes don't know how to react. Fortunately, Adrianne was working from home that day and was able to offer some sage advice that wasn't as obvious as it probably should have been as I stood there staring at the package. “Well,” she said, “the only way you're gonna know what it is is to open it.” Right. Inside, wrapped in newspaper, was the gift itself and an envelope that contained a card. I'll get to the what in a moment, but first I want to address the why, because without the why, the what isn't nearly as meaningful.Subscribe: iTunes | Pocket Casts | Overcast | RSSLINKSHere's a terrific article from The New York Times Magazine called The Day the Music Burned, which tells the story of the 2008 Universal fire that destroyed the original analog and multitrack recordings of nearly a half million songs, some dating back to the 1940s.I've just picked up Adam Savage's new book, Every Tool's a Hammer and one of the reasons I did is because I read an article on Wired that featured an excerpt from the book all about the power of making lists and how Adam's list making life changed when he started working at Industrial Light & Magic. In an article on Witness, Lewis Bush addresses “why there is such a poverty of theory about storytelling in photography compared to other fields, and why there is so little precision about the terms and techniques we use. Why, for example, are so few photographers able to differentiate between such fundamentally different things as story and narrative.” It's a fascinating read that definitely has me thinking about the type of work I'd like to produce moving forward.Music in this episode: The Wrong Way (Jahzzar) / CC BY-SA 4.0

Valerie Jarrett started her career as a corporate lawyer. But in the late 80s, she made a change and headed to work in the mayor’s office in her hometown of Chicago. That’s where Valerie hired a young Michelle Robinson. Who you might know now as former First Lady Michelle Obama. Fast forward a few years, and Valerie is now the longest-serving Senior Advisor to the President in history. And in 2016, she was the guest on our first-ever Facebook Live. Guess which one is higher on her resume. On the Couch, she talks to us about her new book (2:04), how to advocate for women at work (9:52), and what it’s like to challenge your boss … when he’s the president of the United States (30:45).  PS: Our Skimm Reads this week is “Every Tool’s a Hammer” by Adam Savage aka the star of “Mythbusters.” The book is all about the metaphorical tools he’s put in his toolbox in his 40-plus years as a creative. "A true creator knows that you follow the thing to where it's going, not to where you think it ought to go."— Adam SavageAdam Savage (TW: @donttrythis IG: @therealadamsavage FB: therealadamsavage) has spent his life gathering skills that allow him to take what's in his brain and make it real. He's built everything from ancient Buddhas and futuristic weapons to fine-art sculptures and dancing vegetables. The son of a filmmaker/painter and a psychotherapist, Adam's previous positions include projectionist, animator, graphic designer, carpenter, interior and stage designer, toy designer, welder, and scenic painter. And he's worked with every material and in every medium he could fathom—metal, paper, glass, plastic, rubber, foam, plaster, pneumatics, hydraulics, animatronics, neon, glassblowing, moldmaking, and injection molding, to name just a few.In 1993, Adam began concentrating his career on the special-effects industry, honing his skills through more than 100 television commercials and a dozen feature films, including Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace and Episode II – Attack of the Clones, Galaxy Quest, and the Matrix sequels. A decade later, Adam was chosen, along with Jamie Hyneman, to host MythBusters, which premiered on Discovery Channel in January 2003. 14 years; 1,015 myths; 2,950 experiments; eight Emmy nominations; and 83 miles of duct tape later, that version of the series ended in March 2016.Today, Adam hosts and executive produces MythBusters Jr., as well as a brand-new series, Savage Builds, which premieres on Science Channel in June 2019. He also stars in and produces content for Tested.com, including behind-the-scenes dives into multiple blockbuster films (including Alien Covenant, Mortal Combat, and Blade Runner). In addition, after a lifetime of hunting for the perfect bag, Adam launched Savage Industries and began manufacturing his own, along with MAFIA BAGS. Made in the United States and constructed primarily from recycled sailcloth, every bag is not only durable and lightweight but unique, as well. The current line (available at AdamSavage.com) includes two sizes of the EDC ("Everyday Carry") and pouches, with more product both available on the site and on the way. Finally, in 2019 Adam wrote his first book, Every Tool's a Hammer, which is, in Adam's words, "...a chronicle of my life as a maker. It's an exploration of making and of my own productive obsessions, but it's also a permission slip of sorts from me to you. Permission to grab hold of the things you're interested in, that fascinate you, and to dive deeper into them to see where they lead you."This episode of the Tim Ferriss Show is brought to you by Theo Chocolate, which is the first organic and fair-trade chocolate company in North America. The folks there reached out to me because they spotted some neatly stacked bars of their dark chocolate coconut in a recent Instagram photo of my fridge (see it here). This is a brand that does everything from scratch, and the difference shows. It's why Theo is one of my favorite chocolates. It offers tons of different bars, little snacks like coconut bites, and also imaginative creations like a cinnamon horchata bar, beer and scotch chocolates, and its signature s'mores bite -- The Big Daddy. My personal favorite: Salted Almond Butter Cups, which are ridiculous.Theo is helping drive its industry forward by working with communities in the Congo and Peru to make the economics of the cocoa trade fair for farmers, and by using sustainable farming practices. Whether you want to feel better about where you buy your goodies or you just want a really unique and delicious gift for yourself or someone else, they're available in Whole Foods and other grocery stores across the U.S. For listeners of this podcast, Theo is offering 15% off your online purchase at TheoChocolate.com. I've gotten into so many conversations about the gear lying around my house from camera equipment to art on my walls with friends and with everyone on Facebook when a photo gets posted that I thought I would share some of these things. Better yet, I wanted to share the devices, apps and services I use almost DAILY to freelance and get my work done, work faster, more efficiently, even if it means coming off a bit weird with some of these things! Oh and lastly - I have no affiliation with any of this stuff, other than I use it, no profit or gain from sharing this, other than if I get to start seeing people standing on foam rollers at their stand up desk one day, I'll feel a little proud inside. So I just wanted to get that out of the way ;)   For an in-depth report and links to all of the tools, check out the show notes here
