BYD's Strategic Move, Advanced EV Tax Credits, Returning Vision Pro

It's Thursday and we're talking about Ford's comments on BYD's strategic move to North America. We also cover the IRS' issuance of advanced tax credits as well as Apple fans returning their VisionPro headsets. China's electric vehicle giant, BYD, is reportedly making a strategic move by setting up a new EV factory in Mexico, aiming to turn it into an export hub for the U.S. market and worrying many in the industry. The company is conducting a feasibility study and negotiating with Mexican officials about the factory's location and other terms. This move is part of BYD's global expansion strategy, complementing its dominant presence in the Chinese market.Last month, Elon Musk said that Chinese automakers will "demolish" global rivals without trade barriers.A forthcoming report by the group Alliance for American Manufacturing says "The introduction of cheap Chinese autos… backed with the power and funding of the Chinese government… could end up being an extinction-level event for the U.S. auto sector."On Wednesday, Marin Gjaja, COO of Ford's EV unit, Model e, spoke about the ‘colossal strategic threat' of Chinese EVs:  “They are ahead of us in this technology… We look at that and say, ‘That's coming here eventually, so we'd better get fit now and better get going on EVs or we don't have a future as a company.'”The U.S. government has dished out $135 million in advance EV tax rebates since the start of this year, marking a significant shift in consumer electric vehicle tax credit processingPrior to 2024, EV credits were claimed on tax returns the following year. From Jan. 1, these can now be transferred to dealers at the sale time, reducing purchase prices. The IRS reported over 25,000 sale time reports, with 78% involving advance payment requests, totaling around $135 million paid to dealers.New EVs account for 17,500 of the advance payment requests, with used vehicles making up 2,000. Over 11,000 U.S. auto dealers are now registered for the program.Just weeks after its launch, a notable number of users are returning their $3,500 Apple Vision Pro headsets, citing discomfort and limited applicability. Most complaints are primarily about comfort issues like headaches and motion sickness due to the headset's design.Parker Ortolani from The Verge reported a burst blood vessel in his eye after using the headset, highlighting health concerns associated with its use.Apart from physical discomfort, users also cite the headset's limited productivity and entertainment applications as reasons for their dissatisfaction.Concerns around file compatibility and multitasking inefficiencies further dampen the user experience, as noted by Google's senior manager Carter Gibson.Hosts: Paul J Daly and Kyle MountsierGet the Daily Push Back email at https://www.asotu.com/ JOIN the conversation on LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/company/asotu/ Read our most recent email at: https://www.asotu.com/media/push-back-email ASOTU Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/automotivestateoftheunion

It's Friday and we're talking about the new pressure on GM and Stellantis to reach a deal with the UAW. We're also covering the reality check and big step back from EV rollouts from both Ford and Hertz. The UAW's negotiation with General Motors takes a new turn as the union proposes a revised contract offer. This move comes on the heels of a promising tentative agreement with Ford, setting the stage for potential resolutions in the ongoing labor disputes. The recent tentative deal with Ford promises a 25% wage increase over the next four years and the reintroduction of cost-of-living adjustments.UAW President Shawn Fain said, "Ending the strike at Ford would pressure GM and Stellantis to also reach a deal." as he hopes to put pressure on both GM and Stellantis to finalize their own agreements. Both GM and Stellantis expressed intentions to reach a swift tentative agreement with UAW, echoing their desire to resolve the labor standoffs.Current GM and Stellantis offers suggest a wage rise of 23%, pushing top hourly wages above $40 by the contract's conclusion.Ford is making significant adjustments to its EV strategy and deferring around $12 billion in projected investments intended for new EV manufacturing facilities, noting a shift in North American consumer behavior and a reduced willingness to pay a premium for electric vehicles. This decision stems from the slower-than-anticipated growth rate of EV sales, despite the overall increase in the industry.CFO John Lawler said, “"The customer is going to decide what the volumes are. Ford is able to balance production of gas, hybrid and electric vehicles to match the speed of EV adoption in a way that others can't."He continued by highlighting that Ford isn't retracting from its upcoming EV models but will reconsider the speed at which they increase manufacturing capacity.Ford's EV business unit, Ford Model e, reported a $1.3 billion operating loss in the third quarter, doubling its loss from the previous year, even with a 26% revenue hikeFollowing lower than expected earnings, Hertz, is also rethinking their once enthusiastic shift towards EVs due to including higher repair expenses and a decrease in EV resale values, primarily influenced by Tesla's pricing strategies and parts availability. Hertz initially aimed to acquire a vast number of electric vehicles for its fleet. However, significant repair costs and diminished resale values, mainly due to Tesla's price cuts, have forced Hertz to adjust its trajectory. The company remains "committed" to its previous agreement of purchasing 100,000 cars from Tesla and 175,000 EVs from GM. However, its goal of making EVs a quarter of its fleet by the end of 2024 appears unattainable.Hosts: Paul J Daly and Kyle MountsierGet the Daily Push Back email at https://www.asotu.com/ JOIN the conversation on LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/company/asotu/ Read our most recent email at: https://www.asotu.com/media/push-back-email ASOTU Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/automotivestateoftheunion

We're back in the saddle talking about the ongoing Ford Dealer meetings in LasVegas regarding the shift to Model e. We're also talking about the rail strike that may never happen, and WalMarts new tech that allows users to upload some ‘personal' photos to virtually try on clothes. Ford Dealer meetings in Las Vegas this week have dealers driving EVs and reviewing their options to remain eligible to to sell Ford EVsBy 2023 Ford is requiring Dealers to invest from $500k to 1.2M dollars if they want to remain “Model e” certifiedThere are 2 levels, “Model e Certified” and “Model e Certified Elite”. Both levels require no haggle, one-price models for all EVsThe investment money will mostly go toward the installation of fast chargersCertified: 1 public facing chargerCertified Elite: 900k initially to 1 public and one internal fast charger, with a second public facing charger soon afterSam Pack, CEO of Sam Pack Auto Group in Texas, said he plans to have each of his 4 Ford dealerships become Certified Elite. "The message I heard was one of optimism. Yes, there's a lot of questions that have not been answered. But we'll work through those. This is a learning journey."From Jim Farley's LinkedIn Newsletter post yesterday, Sept 14th: Our dealer network is our secret weapon, comprised of entrepreneurs who can deliver for customers all the way through the ownership experience. These are big changes, but we're up for the challenge. With change comes progress – and success. After 20 consecutive hours of negotiations, a U.S. railroad strike has been averted as a tentative deal is reachedA strike would have caused major problems for OEMs and Dealers as rail transport is a primary means of moving inventory around the countryJoe Biden thanked both unions and rail companies “for negotiating in good faith and reaching a tentative agreement that will keep our critical rail system working and avoid disruption of our economy.”If a deal wasn't reached, the Friday deadline for a walkout could have been halted by Congress under emergency economic regulationsWalmart's new “Be your own model” experience allows consumers to use their app to upload a full body image and browse what over 270k clothing items look like on themAcquisition of virtual try-on platform Zeekit last year is powering the experienceUsers upload a full body photo with tight fitting shorts and top and then enter their height in order to use the experience“A single shirt can come in six different colors, seven different sizes and two sleeve lengths. Our technology captures all the variations and shows how they look uniquely on each individual,” says Walmart in a press release announcing the new feature. The feature doesn't support Men's fashion at this pointWalmart did not comment on how it intends to protect intimate customer photosGet the Daily Push Back email at https://www.asotu.com/JOIN the conversation on LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/company/asotu/Read our most recent email at: https://www.asotu.com/media/push-back-emailShare your positive dealer stories: https://www.asotu.com/positivityASOTU Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/automo

Next, as we see foreign companies exiting China, the government has pledged to now support its domestic tech enterprises. Is this the end of China's "crackdown on tech" or just more posturing? It was a commercial van rather than a people hauler, with a bulkhead behind the front seats fully partitioning the cargo area; all of ours will be passenger versions. It also sat on the shorter 117.6-inch wheelbase that will be offered in Europe, while the plan is to bring only the longer-wheelbase variant to America. The U.S. version will also have a bigger battery pack than the prototype's 77.0-kWh unit. - The prototype used what will be the entry-level powertrain consisting of a single electric motor driving the rear wheels - Like the ID.4, it makes 201 horsepower and 229 lb-ft of torque. Volkswagen engineers say an all-wheel-drive version using a second motor to power the front axle will also be offered. Beyond basic dimensions - We're also promised that the finished car will support forthcoming Plug & Charge technology, which will allow cars to communicate directly with chargers to eliminate the need for cards or apps. We don't have official range figures yet, but the engineering team says they would be happy with a 250-mile rating under the European WLTP testing protocol - We haven't been given a peak charging speed either but are assured that rapid DC charging will be supported (the ID.4 supports rates of up to 125 kilowatts). Original Source : https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/a39152293/2024-volkswagen-idbuzz-microbus-ev-prototype-drive/ FORD'S CEO EXPLORES WAYS TO SEPARATE EV BUSINESS - Ford is looking at ways to separate its electric-vehicle operation from its century-old legacy business - CEO Jim Farley wants to wall off Ford's electric operations from its internal combustion engine business and has even considered spinning off one or the other, people familiar with the effort said. A spinoff could generate the kind of earnings multiples that have given Tesla a market value approaching $1 trillion. - Renault Group CEO Luca de Meo said last week it could split off its electric and internal combustion drivetrain activities into two “dedicated entities,” as the automaker targets a 100 percent full-electric lineup in Europe by 2030. - Investors have awarded immense value to pure EV makers, such as Rivian Automotive, whose market value briefly topped Ford's late last year despite producing relatively few vehicles. - As Farley sought to maximize the value of Ford's EV operations, his vision evolved over time, from initially considering a smaller spinoff, to contemplating a full breakup, to now looking at an internal split, the people familiar with the effort said. - Analysts have said Ford needs to shed its legacy business model to achieve the profit margins that Tesla commands, which Farley has estimated top $10,000 a car. To offset the higher cost of electric vehicles, analysts say, automakers need a direct sales model, like at Tesla and Rivian, that bypasses dealers and the cut of revenue they receive. Automakers also need to lower labor costs. After the battery development and production partnership with Samsung fell through, Rivian was reportedly still left with Korean suppliers as the only option to gain know-how and speed its American battery factory plans. - Rivian intends to build its own battery Gigafactory in America instead of depending on the whims of suppliers and aims to expand power cells production for its electric vehicles there to a 100 GWh capacity by 2030. Cleantech Stocks, Carbon ETF to Buy Now Now, this next article titled 3 Renewable Energy Stocks To Keep An Eye On Next Year was found on a site covering the oil industry, oilprice.com. It's written by Alex Kimani. Here are some of his comments. Quote. “#1. Plug Power Inc. (Yes, again!) (NASDAQ: PLUG)        Industry: Alternative Energy        Market Cap: $21.1B Plug Power has managed to remain in Wall Street's good books--and for good reason. First off, the company raised its revenue guidance for 2022 given acquisitions and commercial traction to $900 Million–$925 Million… Citigroup analyst P.J. Juvekar maintains his Buy rating and $35 price target after visiting the company's facilities and coming away impressed with the company's plans to expand its capabilities to make hydrogen gas while also lowering costs… Morgan Stanley analyst Stephen Byrd has maintained an Overweight rating and $43 price target on Plug. Raymond James analyst Joseph Spak has reiterated his Outperform rating while raising the price target to $48 from $40, saying Plug is transforming into a one-stop, turnkey hydrogen solution whose rich valuation is justified, given the significant growth potential. Plug Power and South Korea conglomerate corporation SK Group have announced they have formed a joint venture to build a gigafactory with mass capacity for hydrogen fuel cells and electrolyzer systems in South Korea by 2024… Plug Power has also struck a green hydrogen deal with Airbus (OTCPK: EADSF, OTCPK: EADSY) in a landmark study to decarbonize air travel. #2. Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F)        Industry: Automotive        Market Cap: $79.2B As a member of the 'Big 3' Detroit automakers, Ford Motor Co is a controversial pick on a list dedicated to clean energy plays. But Ford's EV exploits are worth looking into because the company has set out one of the most comprehensive EV roadmaps by a legacy automaker. Indeed, Ford's impressive 123% YTD gain is largely due to the company's EV upside.  Morgan Stanley forecast Ford's EV unit sales will reach 1.24M units by FY30 to represent 34% of volume. Ford has already overtaken General Motors (NYSE: GM) in EV sales in the United States. Further, Ford has already taken 200K reservations for its hotly anticipated F-150 Lightning pickup truck, and plans to start converting reservations to full orders in January 2022, thus beating General Motors' Chevy Silverado to the market by a full year. The F-150 Lightning pickup truck is an all-electric version of Ford's best-selling passenger vehicle in the market, the F-150. Morgan Stanley values Ford's EV/AV and Mobility businesses at nearly $12 per share, which at the moment is roughly 100% of its lowly price target of $12. Meanwhile, Credit Suisse is more positive on the Detroit automaker with a price target of $20… Ford CEO James Farley… has talked up the auto maker's 12% stake in EV truck and van maker Rivian (NASDAQ: RIVN), noting that the firm's well-received IPO ‘gives us lots of optionality' about what to do with its investment. #3. Enphase Energy Inc. (Yes again!) (NASDAQ: ENPH)        Industry: Renewable Energy        Market Cap: $30.4B Enphase Energy Inc. is a Fremont, California-based company that designs and manufactures software-driven home energy solutions used in solar generation, home energy storage and web-based monitoring and control. Enphase is among the leading solar and alternative energy names that have been surging following the passage of the Build Back Better bill in the U.S. House… Last month, Wells Fargo initiated coverage on Enphase with an Outperform rating. Wells pointed to two key competitive advantages that should support growth visibility: regulation NEC 2017, which creates barriers to entry in the U.S. market; and product innovation and software technology, which provide customers with an intelligent home energy management system.” End quotes. ------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Cleantech Stocks, Carbon ETF to Buy Now Now a new investment class for ethical and sustainable investors: carbon credits. This article is fascinating! It's titled KRBN ETF Is Crushing the Market – Buy It Now. By Michael A. Robinson. Here is some of what Mr. Robinson has to say. Quote. “Every company that emits carbon into the atmosphere has to buy credits to do so from companies that remove carbon from the atmosphere. There's one fund that is taking incredible advantage of this system, and they're starting to see huge gains. That fund is the KraneShares Global Carbon ETF (NYSEArca: KRBN), and I'm excited to introduce you to it… The current price for a ton of carbon dioxide is about $40.52. Meanwhile, estimates from the United Nations, the Bank of England, the White House, and Bloomberg New Energy Finance on what price it would take to achieve net zero carbon range from $100/ton to $147/ton… What KraneShares Global Carbon ETF does is ‘go long' on these credits - it buys and holds carbon credit futures, making money as their price goes up… Between September 2014 and this past October, carbon credits have actually outperformed stocks, bonds, commodities, and real estate… It isn't the only player in this space, of course. KraneShares has another fund, the California Carbon Allowance ETF (NYSEArca: KCCA), and iPath has its Series B Carbon ETF (NYSEArca: GRN)… For my money, KraneShares Global Carbon ETF is the ideal move to make, and proof positive that investing in our green-tech-filled future can be very profitable.” End quotes. ------------------------------------------------------------- Honorable Mentions These are ethical and sustainable investment recommendations worth reading about, but I hadn't the space to review them in this podcast. 1) Title My Top Renewable Energy Stock to Buy in December by Matthew DiLallo. It appeared on fool.com. Quote “Clearway believes it can expand its dividend per share at the upper end of its 5% to 8% annual growth range through 2026.” End quote. 2) Title 1 Infrastructure Stock That Could Be a Great Investment for Decades by Matthew Frankel and Jason Hall. Also found on fool.com. Quote “Jason Hall thinks Brookfield Infrastructure (BIP) could be a great investment for not only the next several years but for decades to come.” End quote. 3) Title An ESG Fund Changes the World, One Company at a Time by Lewis Braham. From barrons.com. Quote “Green Century Balanced fund's (ticker: GCBLX)… In the past three years, the fund has beaten 89% of its peers in Morningstar's 50% to 70% Equity Allocation category, with a 16.8% annualized return versus the category's 13.5%.” End quote. 4) Title This May Be The Only Value Fund Focused On Impact Investing by Jacob Wolinsky. Forbes.com. Quote “Lyrical Asset Management's Global Impact Value Equity Strategy (GIVES) may be the only true value impact fund in the world.” End quote. In the UK 1) Title The top 10 most-popular ETFs of 2021 by Interactive Investor. On ii.co.uk. Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Wednesday 1st December. It's Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to. Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they've built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It's a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too. Welcome to a new Patreon EXECUTIVE PRODUCER JAVIER CARMELO DÍAZ PÉREZ AUDI E-TRON FACELIFT SAID TO BRING A LOT MORE RANGE - the Audi E-Tron is getting ready for the second half of its life with a facelift and technology upgrade slated to appear next year. The most welcome change will be a new-generation battery, more efficient motors with greater energy recuperation, and new electronics that work together to increase range by nearly 50%, going from 259 miles on the European WLTP cycle to 373 miles - If the same transformation applies to our EPA ratings, the E-Tron would go from 222 miles to 329 miles, the E-Tron Sportback would go from an EPA-rated 218 miles to 323 miles. The battery is expected to hold steady on capacity at 95 kWh. - It will be on the market for another five years or so, and needs to compete with the growing tide of dedicated electric crossovers appearing in that time. - During a visit to Audi's Belgian factory that builds the E-Tron and E-Tron Sportback, Brand CEO Markus Duesman told RTL the factory will begin building the Q8 E-Tron to replace the E-Tron. - Audi just debuted the China-only Q5 E-Tron last week, a Q6 E-Tron will hit the market as the brand's first PPE-based around the same time as its VW Group sibling, the battery-electric version of the Porsche Macan in 2023, that year will also see an A6 E-Tron sedan, and in 2025 there could be a flagship electric sedan called the A9 E-Tron. These include the digital driver's display, largely buttonless dashboard and a central infotainment system. - The cargo version of the Volkswagen ID Buzz is expected to be able to take around 800kg in the back. It is also predicted to offer options such as a fold-out work bench and a 230V household power outlet. - Volkswagen has already confirmed the upcoming Volkswagen ID Buzz will use a selection of batteries from 48kWh to 111kWh in size. Range-topping versions could have as much as 342 miles of range. In recent months, Ford Authority spies have spotted The Blue Oval benchmarking a couple of all-electric models, including a Tesla Model 3, as well as the Audi e-tron, a direct competitor to the Ford Mustang Mach-E – not just once, but twice. - Now, Ford Authority spies have captured a pretty intriguing automaker benchmarking Ford's EV crossover – Rivian. · Original Source : https://fordauthority.com/2021/11/rivian-caught-benchmarking-ford-mustang-mach-e/ WHICH CAR COMPANY IS COMPLAINING ABOUT MAKING EVS? - Stellantis is a huge mix of international car companies, combining top manufacturers from a number of different countries. Given how much shade the Stellantis umbrella casts, it's almost funny how little EV experience is shared among these different automakers. Stellantis' most prestigious marque would have to be Ferrari, and up until recently it swore it'd never go fully electric. - “What has been decided is to impose on the automotive industry electrification that brings 50 percent additional costs against a conventional vehicle,” he said.“There is no way we can transfer 50 percent of additional costs to the final consumer because most parts of the middle class will not be able to pay.” Original Source : https://jalopnik.com/you-get-one-guess-which-car-company-is-complaining-abou-1848143083 TESLA SWITCHES FROM INTEL TO AMD FOR MODEL Y INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM - The infotainment system in the Tesla Model Y uses an Intel chip, but not for much longer. As Brinkwire reports, Tesla has apparently decided to switch from an Intel to an AMD Ryzen chip for the infotainment system in the Model Y, but only in China for now. This shouldn't come as too much of a surprise because Tesla has switched between Intel, Nvidia, and AMD processors before. - The Model S and Model X have already made the switch to an AMD chip, and now the Model Y is joining them. The fact this is only happening in China may just be an initial phase, with all new Model Y EVs making the switch eventually. - Elon Musk likes to tell people how good Teslas are at playing the latest games, and an AMD Ryzen APU certainly helps when it comes to playing. Original Source : https://www.pcmag.com/news/tesla-switches-from-intel-to-amd-for-model-y-infotainment-system TESLA ENABLES IN-CAR PURCHASES AND SUBSCRIPTIONS - Tesla has started to enable in-car purchases and subscriptions in its latest software updates. Owners can buy a “Premium Connectivity” straight from their center console inside Tesla vehicles. - Despite not being in the release notes, Tesla owners getting the new 2021.40.6 software update reports that they see a new tab in the Tesla menu for “Upgrades” - For now, it appears that only the Premium Connectivity Subscription is available through the in-car purchase system - Interestingly, it's actually not the first time that Tesla introduced in-car purchases. Back in 2016, when Tesla was selling Model S vehicles with software-locked ranges, the automaker let owners unlock it through the car for $10,000. Original Source : https://electrek.co/2021/11/30/tesla-enable-in-car-purchases-subscriptions/ TESLA GIGA PRESS SUPPLIER SAYS 6 CHINESE AUTOMAKERS WANT SIMILAR TECH - Tesla supplier LK Technology has worked with the electric vehicle maker on the casting technology and says six China-based automakers want to deploy a similar technology in their factories next year. - Tesla has been investing heavily in casting and alloy technology and uses a series of big die casting machines to make car bodies with just a few massive casted parts, a trend that is now catching on in the auto industry. The Giga Press is seen as Tesla's latest leap in manufacturing and is used to produce the Model Y. The technology reduces the Model Y's front and rear casting from hundreds of parts down to just two. · Original Source : https://www.benzinga.com/news/21/12/24374353/tesla-giga-press-supplier-says-6-chinese-automakers-want-similar-tech-next-year TESLA FOUND GUILTY (AGAIN) OF THROTTLING SUPERCHARGER SPEEDS - Tesla has been found guilty of throttling Supercharger speed on older Model S vehicles in Norway. The automaker has been ordered to pay impacted customers 130,000 kroner (~$14,200 USD) each. - With an estimated 10,000 2013-2015 Model S owners in the country, the potential fine adds up to about $142 million USD. - This is actually the second time Tesla has been found guilty of these claims. Earlier this year they were found to have intentionally lowered the charging speeds of their 2013-2015 Model S vehicles through an over-the-air (OTA) software update in 2019. Tesla did not respond to the lawsuit or attend the hearing, so an ‘absence judgement' was rendered in favour of the more than 30 plaintiffs in the case. In that ruling, Tesla was ordered to pay 136,000 kroner (~$16,200 USD) to owners. It's a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too. DAVID BECKHAM JUST BECAME A STAKEHOLDER IN CLASSIC EV COMPANY"Niche electric-vehicle company Lunaz announced on Thursday soccer star David Beckham has purchased a stake in its business. The privately owned British auto maker, which coverts petrol-powered vintage Range Rovers, Bentleys, Rolls-Royces and Jaguars into clean-energy autos, said the former Manchester United striker had taken 10% equity. The company didn't say how much Beckham paid for the stake." says MarketWatch: "The company is based in Silverstone, home to Britain's Formula One circuit and an automotive technology hub. Lunaz started production of its first cars in 2019 and markets itself as upcycling existing passenger, industrial and commercial vehicles to offer a sustainable alternative to replacing with new." https://www.marketwatch.com/story/david-beckham-takes-stake-in-electric-vehicle-company-powering-vintage-cars-11622714935 YOU CAN NOW CONFIGURE THE BMW I4 ONLINE AND PRE-ORDER"Several markets have opened up the online configurator for the new 2022 BMW i4. BMW USA, BMW UK and BMW Canada are just some of them, so you can head over to see some of the i4 configurations, packages and options." says BMWBlog: "The Canadian BMW website does not have the “Reserve Now” feature yet, but its UK counterpart does. The right-hand drive i4 models start at 51,905 GBP for the eDrive40 and the i4 M50 costs £63,905. Sport and M Sport models offered are offered at launch time for the UK market. BMW USA has also opened the ordering bank for the 2022 BMW i4. A $1,500 fully refundable deposit is required and deliveries are expected to be by June 30, 2022. If you buy the car outright rather than leasing, then you may quality for a $7,500 federal rebate since BMW has not hit the 200,000 limit of electric vehicles sold in the United States." https://www.bmwblog.com/2021/06/02/you-can-now-configure-the-bmw-i4-online/ BMW I4 M50 FIRST LOOK: M3 PERFORMANCE IN AN EV PACKAGE"Thanks to its two electric motors (one at each axle), the i4 M50 makes a peak of 536 hp and 586 lb-ft of torque. The i4 eDrive40, for comparison, makes do with 335 horses and 317 lb-ft of torque. BMW claims the i4 M50 sprints to 60 mph in less than 4.0 seconds. For reference, a 2021 BMW M3 Competition ran to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds in our hands." says Motortrend: "BMW also fiddled with the i4 M50's suspension components to ensure the electric sedan's handling can cash the check its M badge writes. The battery pack, as in many electric vehicles these days, is a stressed member of the chassis, which affords the i4 stiff underpinnings that ought to benefit handling." https://www.motortrend.com/news/2022-bmw-i4-m50-first-look-review/ MICHELIN IS OUT TO MAKE THE WORLD'S GREENEST TIRE"Making tires for an electric vehicle is a ruthless exercise in compromise. Too much stick and the car won't travel as far on a charge; too little, it will silently slide off the road. Exacerbating the equation is the fact that these vehicles are ponderously heavy." says Bloomberg Green, in a not-so-complimentary description:" Michelin, however, says it has finally perfected the mix after 30 years of tinkering with its rubber recipes. If EV ranges tick slightly higher in the next few months, the battery chemists won't deserve all the praise; save some for the tire wizards." Michelin told them: "In March, we unveiled the e.PRIMACY, which will come later this year for larger SUVs in the U.S. That tire is bringing up to 7% additional range to electric vehicles, because it is optimized to reduce the road resistance without compromising any of the performance. That's a technology we mastered and we're just rolling it out. The second example is on the Pilot Sport, which we just released. It's a dedicated tire for electric sports cars and it brings up to 37 miles of additional range, because of that optimization of running resistance." https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-06-05/michelin-is-out-to-make-the-world-s-greenest-tire KIA DEBUTS THE 2021 NIRO EV "Kia's Niro EV may not grab many headlines, especially with the announcement of its flashier cousin, the EV6, but the 2021 model has finally made its debut. While it's primarily a carryover from the 2020 model year, a few changes have been made, which Kia outlined in an announcement on Friday." says CNET: "The feature changes for the Niro EV aren't massive, but they do represent some real quality-of-life improvements. We're big fans of the move to wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as the inclusion of a rear seat occupant alert. In addition, remote starting becomes standard which means that you're now able to preheat or cool the Niro's cabin. , it does add features like highway driving assist, leading vehicle departure warning and navigation-based smart cruise control, so it's worth getting." https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/best-lap-timer-for-2021/ TESLA LOSES ANOTHER MANAGER FROM BERLIN FACTORY"Tesla has lost another top manager from the automaker's new European plant under construction near Berlin, according to a report in Automobilwoche, a sister publication of Automotive News Europe. Marcel Jost, head of general assembly, left the automaker last month while Tesla CEO Elon Musk was visiting Germany, Automobilwoche said. " according to Automotive News: " He became Tesla's senior quality manager in Germany in March 2020. Jost's departure follows that of Evan Horetsky, project manager of the plant in Gruenheide near Berlin. Horetsky left Tesla in October 2020. Horetsky has since joined Swedish hypercar manufacturer Koenigsgg. Another top Daimler executive, Rene Reif, was due to replace Horetsky, but never took the post" https://europe.autonews.com/automakers/tesla-loses-another-manager-berlin-factory-report-says SWEDEN, UK AND NORWAY EV MARKET SHARE"Sweden saw plugin electric vehicle market share reach 39.1% in May 2021, up from 21.5% in May 2020. With policy changes still in flux, we can expect even stronger growth in the second half of the year. " says Max at CleanTechnica: "The best selling full electric in May was the Volkswagen ID.4. Overall auto sales were still recovering, down 24% from seasonal norms. May's cumulative plugin result of 39.1% comprised plugin hybrids (PHEVs) at 22.8% and full battery electrics (BEVs) at 16.2%. Since starting delivery in decent volumes in April, the Volkswagen ID.4 has quickly climbed to the top of the year-to-date best selling BEV rankings. It looks set to totally dominate the charts for the rest of the year, although its siblings the Skoda Enyaq, and later the Audi Q4 e-tron, may pull some interest away." Meanwhile in the UK: Battery electric vehicle (BEV) market share declined from 12.0% a year ago to 8.4% in the past month, although the May 2020 performance was distorted by lockdowns when new cars could only be purchased through click and collect or delivery, giving rise to variable purchasing patterns. Looking more broadly across 2021, plug-in vehicles now comprise 13.8% of new car registrations, up from 7.2% a year earlier, with the most rapid growth seen in plug-in hybrid (PHEV) derivatives." And finally, Norway from the perspective of electrive: "In Norway, 8,498 new electric cars were registered in May. The share of electric cars in new passenger car registrations was 60.4 per cent last month. Norway's most successful model across all drive types in May was the Ford Mustang Mach-E with 1,384 new registrations. Daily Stock Market News

Stock Index Futures are flat waiting for the jobs data. Here's what is happening in the markets today, Thursday, May 27th.It already feels like Memorial Day: Yesterday, we had a relatively quiet trading session. The S&P 500 eked out a 0.2% gain in light trading. TheDow finished little changed yesterday, while the Nasdaq gained 0.6%.Best Buy (BBY) jumped 3.8% in the premarket after they reported quarterly earnings of $2.23 per share, which beat the consensus estimate of $1.39 a share. Revenue and comparable-store sales also exceeded Wall Street forecasts and Best Buy raised its full-year forecast.Snowflake (SNOW) lost 11 cents per share for the first quarter, less than the 16 cents a share loss that analysts were anticipating. The revenue also topped forecasts, but shares fell 3.3% in the premarket as losses grow at a similar rate as its sales.Williams-Sonoma (WSM) earned $2.93 per share for its latest quarter, beating the consensus estimate of $1.83 a share. The housewares retailer's revenue came in above forecasts, and it also gave an upbeat outlook as shoppers continue to invest in their homes. The stock rose 3.3% in premarket trading.More Stimulus Checks: After filing their tax returns, more people qualify for stimulus checks! The government has issued a new batch of $1,400 stimulus checks. This tranche includes more than 1.8 million payments worth more than $3.5 billion. More than 900,000 of those checks were sent via direct deposit, and the rest were delivered via paper checks.Don't forget the meme trades! The WallStreetBets crew has returned, driving up so-called "meme stocks" on Wednesday: Shares of AMC Entertainment (AMC) rose nearly 20% and GameStop (GME) climbed 16%, and the two are up more than 60% and 37%, respectively, this week alone. "These people don't have unlimited firepower," Mad Money's Jim Cramer noted, "but they've got enough firepower to engineer a short-squeeze any time a bunch of professionals decide to bet against this thing."After weeks of rumors, Amazon (AMZN)  finally acquired MGM for $8.5 billion. It's Amazon's second-largest acquisition after Whole Foods and the first time a tech company has bought a major legacy media firm. Ford (F) said yesterday it expects 40% of its sales to come from electric vehicles by 2030. It's got a long way to go: In the US, the company's largest market, Ford's EV sales have accounted for 1.2% of this year's total through April. But Ford committed to spending $30 billion on EV development in five years. This wraps up today's stock market news.If you enjoyed the "Stock Market Today" video, make sure to subscribe to this podcast. And for more stock market news,  visit https://rockwelltrading.com.#todaysstockmarket #stockmarkettoday #stockmarket
