Is it a sin to change your surname? Can Mary hear our silent prayers? In this episode, we explore unique and thought-provoking questions about Catholic belief and morality. Learn the difference between the minimal and maximal facts approaches to defending the Resurrection of Jesus, and discover the Church's perspective on “reality shifting”—a concept involving altered states of consciousness. We also address whether it's morally acceptable to own and use firearms, especially in cases of self-defense. Finally, we examine Genesis 1:30 and whether it truly suggests that all animals were originally vegetarian. Join The CA Live Club Newsletter: Click Here Invite our apologists to speak at your parish! In this episode, we're joined by the wise and wonderful Lisa Harper — author, Bible teacher, and one of the most joy-filled voices in the Church today. With her trademark humor and heartfelt honesty, Lisa shares a powerful conversation with Shelley Giglio about theology, friendship, and the beauty of living in a deep community connection. Lisa opens up about her early struggles with inadequacy and how, for a time, theology became a mask she wore rather than a lens through which she could truly see Jesus. But as God gently reshaped her heart, Lisa began to understand that real theology is deeply relational, all about knowing Christ and letting that knowledge transform our lives. In this conversation, Lisa lets us into how that revelation has impacted her view on community, and challenges us to do the same. She also gives us a glimpse into what God is doing through her Kerygma Conference and her new book, “A Jesus Shaped Life.” In true Lisa Harper fashion, this episode is filled with both deep belly laughs and powerful theological truths, serving as a reminder to us that theology isn't just for classrooms or scholars, but for every woman longing to know Jesus and walk with Him more closely. The Grove is an extension of all God is doing here at Passion City Church in Atlanta, Georgia, to serve and care for women everywhere. Courses based on doctrine with some social science mixed in Eternal principles and daily principles taught (money, sexuality etc) 5:50 We don't have to convince BYU students that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints values families, but they don't often know why. 8:30 D&C 131 and 132: The Degrees of Glory and importance of eternal families 10:40 The Family: A Proclamation to the World. Quotes document. 11:40 President Oaks Quote: “Our theology begins with Heavenly Parents. Our greatest aspiration is to be like them.” “The purpose of mortal like and the mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is to prepare the sons and daughters of God for their eternal destiny- to become like our Heavenly Parents.” 13:35 Divine Identity and Divine Destiny… as children of God 15:45 Mother in Heaven: foundational doctrine 16:35 When speaking to single adults after the foundation has been laid, what do you say next? …Well someday?!? NO! Acknowledge their pain and the issues they face. 17:45 Neil L. Anderson quote: “We will continue to teach the Lord's pattern for families, but now with millions of members and the diversity among those in the church we need to be more thoughtful and sensitive. Our church culture and vernacular are sometimes quite unique. The Primary children are not going to stop singing 'Families can be Together Forever' but when they sing 'I'm so happy when Daddy comes home' or 'With father and mother leading the way…', not all children will be singing about their family.” 20:50 What do we need to know now, to feel joy now? Four overarching principles: No one denied any promised blessing because of something outside of their control YOU are included in the plan of salvation, and because of that inclusion there is hope. Heavenly Father will not abrogate agency. God loves us with a perfect love and will do anything in his power to exalt us. Through the grace of Christ, Heavenly Father can provide solutions to those things outside our control (24:51) 26:04 Quote President Kimball: “We promise you that in as far as eternity is concerned, NO soul will be deprived of rich and high and eternal blessings for anything which they could not help. That the Lord never fails in his promises. Every righteous person will eventually receive ALL to which they are entitled and have not forfeited through any fault of their own.” 28:15 Stay covenant-connected. 28:30 Quote President Nelson: Through no failing of their own “they” deal with the trails of life alone. May we all be reminded that in the Lord's own way and time no blessing will be withheld from his faithful saints. The Lords will judge and reward each individual according to their heartfelt desires as well as deeds.”

He identifies three critical mistakes the church makes about homosexuality: making it the greatest sin, not addressing it, and affirming it. Practical advice for spiritual growth and battling temptations is also provided, along with a call to prioritize biblical teachings over cultural influences.

In the seventh episode of "The Fundamentals of Prayer," Duane Sheriff explores the importance of praying according to God's will and understanding it through Scripture. There is a difference between praying "if it be Thy will" and knowing God's will. The story of Jesus praying three times in the garden reveals His human struggle and ultimate surrender, teaching us the importance of persistence in prayer. When God's will is unclear, seek wisdom and approach prayer with confidence, knowing that God's Word reveals His will.https://pastorduane.com/fundamentals-of-prayer/

In this episode, we confront a growing trend in contemporary Christianity: the desire to have Christ without His Church. Many today seek a personal faith disconnected from any visible communion, doctrine, or shared life with the Body of Christ. But is such a divorce possible—or faithful? We begin by exploring modern attempts to follow Jesus while distancing from the Church, examining the roots of this spiritual individualism and the dangers it poses. Then we turn to the Lutheran Confessions, where Luther clearly affirms that the Church is not only a human community but an article of faith: “I believe that there is on earth a little holy group and congregation of pure saints...” (SA III.XII.1–2; Large Catechism, Creed, III). The Church is where Christ is present with His Word and Sacraments. Finally, we present a better way forward—a way rooted in love for both the Bridegroom and His Bride. To love Christ is to love His Church. To receive Him is to receive His gifts in the fellowship of believers. Join us as we seek a faithful and joyful reintegration of personal faith with the life of the Church, where Christ is truly known and received. ----more---- Host: Fr. Jason Braaten Special Guest: Fr. Pastor Phil joins Andrew Rapoport on the Rap Report to dive deep into the pressing issues facing the church today, particularly the encroaching influence of wokeness and the social justice movement. The conversation kicks off with a look back at how the church has historically handled attacks on its foundations, with Phil drawing parallels between past and current challenges. They explore the concept of “hijacking virtue,” where seemingly noble causes are manipulated for ulterior motives, alluding to movements like Black Lives Matter and the growing complexity of racial reconciliation efforts. Throughout the episode, they emphasize the need for discernment in identifying idols in our lives and churches that could lead believers astray, ultimately pointing to the importance of a solid biblical worldview. As they wrap up, listeners are encouraged to look critically at their own communities and the teachings they encounter, ensuring they remain anchored in the truth of Scripture amidst a rapidly changing cultural landscape. The episode culminates in a call to action for listeners to become more discerning about the influences shaping their faith and the church community. Andrew and Phil encourage a proactive approach to understanding the root causes of cultural movements and their potential impact on the church. They articulate a vision of the church as a beacon of hope and truth in a world increasingly hostile to its teachings. By grounding themselves in scripture and fostering a community that prioritizes spiritual growth over societal trends, believers can effectively counter the narratives that seek to undermine their faith. The conversation concludes with practical advice for identifying potential pitfalls within church teachings and a reminder of the importance of community and dialogue in navigating these complex issues. Phil's book serves as a resource for those looking to deepen their understanding of these themes, providing a framework for recognizing and combating modern idolatry in all its forms.Takeaways: Andrew and Pastor Phil discuss the modern challenges facing the church, emphasizing the need for biblical interpretation amidst societal pressures. The podcast highlights the importance of recognizing and resisting the hijacking of virtue by secular movements, particularly in the context of social justice. Pastor Phil shares insights from his book, 'Idols on the Hills', addressing how ancient idolatry manifests in contemporary issues like materialism and cultural ideology. Listeners are encouraged to critically evaluate their churches for signs of compromise with modern ideologies, particularly regarding race and morality in light of scripture. The discussion touches on the role of pastors in navigating modern complexities while remaining grounded in the truth of the gospel, avoiding guilt manipulation. Episode Title: "Was the Church Hijacked After Constantine?"Series: Not Against Flesh and Blood – Ep. 1 Episode Description: Was the Church of Christ hijacked by Rome after Constantine? Or is that just a popular myth used to prop up modern interpretations? In this premiere episode of Not Against Flesh and Blood, we tackle one of the most common (and misleading) narratives in anti-Catholic circles—the claim that true Christianity disappeared after the 4th century. We explore the Council of Nicaea, the role of Constantine, the Arian controversy, and what the early Church actually believed. We also ask:Can we trust the Church that gave us the Bible? Was the Nicene Creed a corruption or a clarification? What do modern Evangelicals assume about history that might not hold up?This episode isn't about attacking people—it's about exposing flawed teaching with love, history, and Scripture. We challenge our listeners to dig deeper, ask harder questions, and examine whether the faith handed down for 2,000 years is really the "corrupt version"… or if maybe it just wasn't Protestant to begin with. If you've ever been told the Church was lost, hijacked, or replaced—this one's for you.
