It was around midnight on Sunday August 25, 1996, and 14-year-old Caroline Glachan was out walking on a path by the River Leven in Bonhill, Scotland. She told a friend she was on her way to a date. Caroline's curfew was 2 am. But she never made it home. In the morning, her mother woke up, alarmed. She started calling Caroline’s friends, but no one had seen her. So she called the police, and they immediately started searching for Caroline. It didn’t take them long to find her. Later that day, August 25, just after 4 pm, her body was found floating in the river. Almost thirty years later, her killers were finally convicted. My Mom Washed the Money” — Donna Adelson Directly Tied to Murder Plot The Donna Adelson trial has taken a dramatic turn — and the testimony laid out in court may be the most damning evidence yet against the Adelson family matriarch. For years, prosecutors have painted Donna as the controlling force behind the plot to murder Dan Markel, her former son-in-law. But now, through sworn testimony and financial records, the paper trail and personal involvement are finally in full view for the jury. Former girlfriend of Charlie Adelson, Katherine Magbanua, testified that every time she and Charlie discussed “the job” — hiring someone to kill Markel — Charlie would suddenly step away to call his mother, Donna, before returning to push her harder. She said this happened repeatedly. Donna wasn't a background character — she was being consulted in real time. Magbanua also revealed that Charlie told her the murder was meant to “relieve his family's suffering,” specifically pointing to his parents, Donna and Harvey Adelson. That testimony directly tied Donna's own emotions and pressure into the motive. Perhaps most shocking — Magbanua described receiving a damp, molding payout in cash. When she asked Charlie about it, he told her: “My mom washed the money.” This directly links Donna to handling the proceeds of the crime. And then came the forensic accounting. Expert witness Mary Hull testified that Katherine Magbanua was placed on the Adelson Institute payroll after the murder — and that every single one of the 44 paychecks she received was signed by Donna Adelson. The payments stopped abruptly after the infamous FBI “bump,” when undercover agents confronted Donna in 2016. This isn't speculation. This is testimony, records, and signatures — all pointing toward Donna Adelson's deep involvement in planning, paying for, and covering up the murder of Dan Markel. Was Donna Adelson the true mastermind behind the crime? Or was she just another player in a toxic, criminally enmeshed family? The jury will decide — but the evidence is stacking up against her. So thank you, Paul. Hope you're listening to this.  I will try to remember to send you an email just before I release this one. However, Paul suggested that I do a story that focuses more specifically on Jimmy Burke, also known as Jimmy the Gent. And I looked around, and I agreed with Paul. Burke is mentioned on many podcasts because we all want to discuss the famous Lufthansa. I want to talk about Henry Hill, some of the other mob people in the Lucchese family, but it seems like I wasn't really finding a show that was just focused on Burke. So, James, Jimmy the Gent, Burke and where he came from and where he went. [0:43] Oh, and don't forget to hit me up on Venmo, buy me a cup of coffee once in a while, or maybe go donate on the podcast. I appreciate it. It helps pay the bills and keep me going. Now, Burke may be one of the most famous mob associates of all times, I would say. Oh, there's some in Chicago. They had a lot of associates in Chicago. But because of, of course, Henry Hill and Robert De Niro playing him, [1:07] why, he probably would be the most famous mob guy who is not a made man. If Henry Hill had not gone into witness protection, if Henry Hill had not done that book with Nicholas Pelleggi, Wise Guys, or if the famous filmmaker Martin Scorsese hadn't taken Wise Guys and Pellegi's book and got Pellegi to help write a script and titled it Goodfellas. And when Robert De Niro took the part of Jimmy the Gent, his place in history was assured, I'll tell you that, especially in mob history. In my humble opinion, this book and film were arguably the best depictions of day-to-day mob life ever that I've ever seen. I thought it was amazing. He did a heck of a job at the casino. [1:55] And to see the egos of these guys, once they turn, are just amazing. When Lefty Rosenthal heard Robert De Niro was going to play him, he told Pelleggio, oh yeah, I'll work with you, I'll work on this. And I'm not sure what brought Henry Hill around,

Sheriff Stines BREAKING POINT: Murder of Judge Mullins EXPLAINED On September 19th, 2024, Whitesburg, Kentucky was rocked by a killing that stunned the country. Sheriff Shawn “Mickey” Stines shot and killed his longtime friend, Judge Kevin Mullins, inside Mullins' own chambers — just minutes after the two had lunch together. The entire murder was caught on courthouse surveillance. In this episode of Hidden Killers with Tony Brueski, psychotherapist and author Shavaun Scott joins me to analyze one of the strangest crimes in recent memory: a sheriff killing a judge on camera. Was Sheriff Stines insane, or was he pushed to the breaking point by mounting pressure? Just three days before the killing, Stines sat for a deposition in a civil case tied to corruption and misconduct in his office. Was this murder about protecting himself, silencing secrets, or exposing a system that was already collapsing? Bodycam footage shows Stines muttering paranoid lines like “you're going to kill me” after his arrest — yet he surrendered calmly, without resistance. Was this paranoia real, or a legal strategy? And what does it mean when an officer of the law commits violence in the most incriminating way possible — on camera, in the seat of justice itself? Join us as we break down the shocking murder of Judge Kevin Mullins, Sheriff Shawn Stines' bizarre behavior, and what it reveals about power, paranoia, and corruption. #SheriffStines #JudgeMullins #MurderExposed #TrueCrime #HiddenKillers #CourthouseKilling #InsanityDefense #Whitesburg #Corruption #TrueCrimePodcast Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Donna Adelson Trial: Detective Maps July 18th Phone Calls Before Dan Markel's Murder The jury in the Trial of Donna Adelson was riveted today as Tallahassee Police Sergeant Christopher Corbitt traced the timeline of phone calls on July 18, 2014—the very morning Dan Markel was shot in his driveway. This wasn't just a list of calls. It was a carefully woven narrative of how the alleged conspiracy operated in real time, connecting the hitmen, Katherine Magbanua, Charlie Adelson, and ultimately Donna Adelson herself. Corbitt walked the jury through the early-morning hours, showing how Magbanua and Charlie Adelson exchanged a flurry of calls while the hitmen's phones pinged near their Tallahassee motel. At 1:02 a.m., Charlie called his mother, Donna, pulling her directly into the communications chain just hours before the murder. By mid-morning, calls bounced between Donna, Wendi, and Charlie, with Wendi speaking to both her brother and her mother minutes before Markel was due to arrive home. Then came the chilling detail: at 11:22 a.m., barely 30 minutes after Markel was shot, Charlie Adelson placed a 7-minute call to Donna. Prosecutors argue this wasn't coincidence—it was coordination, a family scrambling in the aftermath of a hit they helped arrange. Why does this matter? Because phone records don't forget, and they don't get confused on the stand. These logs provide jurors with a roadmap of connection—showing not only who called whom, but when and how often. Combined with other testimony, this timeline suggests the Adelsons weren't just worried relatives but active participants in orchestrating and managing the murder-for-hire plot. For the prosecution, Corbitt's testimony is about more than phone numbers. It's about establishing a pattern of conspiracy—a trail of calls that prosecutors say leads straight back to Donna Adelson. #DonnaAdelsonTrial #ChristopherCorbitt #DanMarkel #CharlieAdelson #DonnaAdelson #KatherineMagbanua #TrueCrime #FloridaTrial #CourtroomDrama #JusticeForDan Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Katherine Magbanua's testimony in the Donna Adelson trial is one of the most fascinating moments in the long fight for justice in the murder of Dan Markel. In this short video, I'll walk through how MAWG-BANA-WUA functioned as a “middle-man” between Charlie Adelson and the killers — and how that mirrors the role prosecutors say Donna Adelson played in orchestrating the plot. You'll hear a couple of her own words from the stand, and we'll unpack why the prosecution's decision to put her on the witness stand is such a powerful move. It took a horrible murder for Alaska to revise its statutes for the criminally insane from some of the most lenient sentencing laws in the country to the strictest laws in the U.S. for the insanity defense. On the night of May 3, 1982, one veteran Anchorage police officer was quoted as saying, “This has got to be one of the grisliest nights I've ever seen.” Within an hour, seven people lost their lives. Three died in the Black Bull bar in the Muldoon section of Anchorage, and the other four were shot in Russian Jack Springs Park in East Anchorage. At first, investigators wondered if the two crime scenes were connected, but they soon learned nothing linked the two horrific events. The speaker discusses the dangers of granting commercial driver's licenses to non-English-speaking illegal immigrants, citing a fatal accident in Florida as an example. He argues this policy not only endangers public safety but also negatively impacts American truckers by driving down wages. The conversation then shifts to the political sphere, where the speaker mocks California Governor Gavin Newsom for allegedly using a team to mimic Donald Trump's social media style and taking credit for the Cracker Barrel logo reversal. Finally, the monologue turns to a tragic and shocking news story from Myrtle Beach, where a 16-year-old boy was lured to his death and murdered by his 17-year-old girlfriend and her friends. The speaker expresses disbelief at the senseless violence and the fact that the crime was filmed by the teenage accomplices.

In this episode of the podcast, I'm joined by author Ron K. Fried for a deep dive into one of the most compelling figures in organized crime history: Frank Costello, the mob boss who rose to power during Prohibition and later became known as the “Prime Minister of the Underworld.” We discuss Ron's novel Frank Costello: A Novel—a carefully researched work of historical fiction that vividly brings Costello's complex character to life. Together, we explore the real-life events behind the book and how Ron approached writing about a man who straddled the worlds of organized crime and political power. We start with Costello's early years—his immigration from Sicily, his upbringing in East Harlem, and how he gravitated toward petty crime and gang life. In this environment, he met future legends like Charles “Lucky” Luciano, Meyer Lansky, Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel, and Vito Genovese—key figures in the creation of a national crime syndicate.During Prohibition, Costello built his fortune and reputation through bootlegging, running extensive liquor operations, and leveraging alliances that would shape the mob's future. We discuss the bloody 1931 power shift following the assassinations of Joe Masseria and Salvatore Maranzano, which led to the formation of the Five Families. As Luciano's trusted associate, Costello rose in the ranks of what would become the Genovese Crime Family. We explore the mid-1930s transition period when Luciano was imprisoned and Genovese fled to Italy to avoid a murder charge. This opened the door for Costello to become acting boss, a position he would hold for nearly 20 years. During this time, he built a reputation as a refined, politically connected mobster who favored influence over brute force—garnering real sway in political and judicial circles. We delve into Costello's political entanglements, including the wiretap involving Judge Thomas Aurelio, in which Costello was caught influencing judicial appointments. We also examine his ties to New York Mayor William O'Dwyer and his suspected involvement in the mysterious death of Abe Reles, a Murder, Inc. informant who “fell” from a window while under police protection. One major focus is Costello's appearance at the 1951 Kefauver Committee hearings, a turning point in his career. His decision to only allow his hands to be filmed became a media sensation and diminished his power and mystique. The public scrutiny weakened his position and empowered rivals—most notably, Vito Genovese, who sought to reclaim the top spot in the family. We look at the 1957 assassination attempt on Costello, carried out by Vincent “The Chin” Gigante on Genovese's orders. Though Costello survived, he chose to step down. We also discuss the murder of Albert Anastasia later that year, and the theory that Costello may have had a hand in framing Genovese, leading to his 1959 conviction on narcotics charges. From there, we examine Costello's final years, during which he remained influential behind the scenes but largely retired from active leadership. We reflect on his complex legacy: a ruthless gangster who carefully curated an image of legitimacy and respectability. Ron shares how he explored that duality in his novel—bringing humanity to a man who lived in both the criminal underworld and the corridors of political power. We also discuss mob portrayals in film and television, and look ahead to the upcoming 2025 gangster film Alto Knights, a much-anticipated movie featuring dramatizations of several key historical figures we covered. Our conversation touches on why the Mafia continues to fascinate the public and how Frank Costello's story stands apart as one of strategy, survival, and power.

The Yogurt Shop Murders /// Part 1 /// 866Part 1 of 2  www.TrueCrimeGarage.comThis week we take a good solid look at a case that has weighed heavy on the hearts and minds of everyone in the Lone Star state's capital city. The Austin Yogurt Shop Murders is one of most infamous cases in Texas history. Despite the efforts of the APD it remains unsolved. In 1991 four girls were killed at the I Can't Believe it's Yogurt near the Northcross mall. Victims - Amy Ayers (13), Eliza Thomas (17), Jennifer Harbison (17), and Sarah Harbison (15) were shot and killed in the shop's backroom before the business was set on fire. Police had many leads, some that turned into arrests, and two accused were charged, convicted, and released.
