Towards the end of 1944, as it became clear to the senior officers of the Nazi SS that the war was lost, they decided to evacuate the many concentration camps which held several hundred thousand inmates, and which stood in the path of the rapidly advancing Red Army. Himmler and his SS didn't want to leave living witnesses to be liberated by the Allied armies, and they also wished to utilize the slave labor of concentration camp inmates in the remaining war industry in Germany for the duration of the war. During the winter of 1944-45, a mass evacuation of nearly a half a million prisoners commenced from large concentration camps such as Auschwitz-Birkenau, Stutthof and Gross-Rosen, along with many smaller camps, began under horrid conditions. Starved, diseased, freezing weather, lack of preparation for the journey, and constant shootings of those who lagged behind, made these death marches a murderous journey, in which tens of thousands were killed or died along the way. As trains were often unavailable, the bulk of these death marches took place on foot. This last deadly phase of the Holocaust was a tragic ending for many victims, and a traumatic memory for the few survivors. We start today's show with Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) saying he will not vote for a continuing resolution. I think we all need to start trending #15DaytoStoptheSpend. We cannot keep passing budgets the way we've been doing them since the mid-to-late 90's. Next I start to connect several stories about Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) and other negative pieces about President Joe Biden. Is it possible they are getting ready for a double-swap? They move VP Kamala Harris into the unexpired term of Rep. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Newsom moves into the unexpired term of Kamala Harris, Biden then steps down allowing Newsom to finish the term and then run for President in 2024. Since he was never “elected”, he will be able to run again in 2028. It's just a theory, but I think it holds some water. Politico just ran a piece showing Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) funneled millions of dollars to for-profit defense contractors in exchange for campaign donations. Well, there might be something just a little unethical and illegal about that. We then spend some time looking at Canada's liberal party members trying to fix their Nazi SS debacle. It doesn't go very well. Plus, I point out how quick they were to politicized the Freedom Convoy last year, so why shouldn't they be forced to deal with their massive mistake? PM Justin Trudeau tried to blame the mistake on Russian propaganda and misinformation. I'm not sure how to make that one work, but Trudeau seems intent on selling that line. Pollster Frank Luntz is an idiot. He is out there pushing the notion that 65% of Americans want to go with a popular vote for president rather than keeping with the Electoral College. I spend some time going over the basics of American civics to help clarify why we have the Electoral College in the first place. Finally, several of the bad actors who conspired against Donald Trump and his followers are starting to panic over the idea of a Trump victory. They are worried he might do to them, what they have been doing to him. I'd say they have good cause to worry. Victor Davis Hanson put out a tweet backing up just about everything I said. Vern Staley wanted to join the military at age 17 following the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. His father refused to sign off, telling him to finish high school and accurately predicting "there'll be plenty of war left as soon as you get out of school." After graduating, Staley was drafted into the U.S. Army and assigned to the 70th Infantry Division. In 1977, he was assigned the coveted White House Correspondent assignment for ABC News, a post he would hold for the duration of the Carter and Reagan administrations.
