On the field, Reggie Williams was an ever-present force of nature, proudly wearing no. 57 for 14 seasons as a member of Tabari's hometown Cincinnati Bengals. And now, the renaissance man that is the former NFL player/politician/businessman/author is the featured guest on the 80th episode of A Tight 45 with Tabari McCoy!A native of Flint, MI, Williams was the Bengals third-round draft pick in 1976 out of Darmouth University, the same college where he was awarded an academic scholarship. Eventually graduating with his degree in an A.B. in psychology (after also winning an Ivy League wrestling championship), he would become a force on the gridiron for the Bengals, where he would play in both Super Bowl XVI (1981) – he led the Bengals defense with a team-high 11 sacks and second most tackles with 106 – and XXIII (1988) .Football wouldn't be the only place Williams would make his mark, however, as he would go on to be appointed to and win re-election of a seat on Cincinnati City Council in the late 1980s. This is in addition to the two year span that saw him win the Byron "Whizzer" White Award for Humanitarian Service (1985), NFL Man of the Year (1986) and Sports Illustrated's Co-Sportsmen of the Year (1987). After retiring from football, he would go on to work as the director of sports development for Disney - yes, THAT Disney – helping to develop the World Wide of Sports complex that is still thriving today. On this episode (out on all major platforms on Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2022), Williams chats with Tabari about life in the NFL, the litany of injuries he has dealt with post-football, his dual existence as a football player and politician and why cannabis is important to his quality of life today. There's even a question that only Tabari would ask which Williams provides an answer to as only he can – but you'll have to listen to the whole episode to find out what that is! Check out this episode and others you may have missed at https://atight45.buzzsprout.com/or wherever you get your podcasts today! We were honored to be able to sit down and talk with NFL Hall of Famer, Darrell Green at his charity golf outing. For those that may not know who Darrell Green is…he's a pretty big deal. Arguably the best defensive back to ever play the game and arguably the fastest player of all time, once recording a 4.09 40 time. He was a 2x Super Bowl Champ, NFL Man of the Year, 7x pro-bowler, holding double-digit NFL records…the list goes on and on as he is one of the most decorated defensive players to ever play. But most importantly, he always stayed humble, worked extremely hard, and stayed focused on his main purpose, which was fulfilling God's plan for his life and living for Him and not fame and fortune. That led him to start the Darrell Green Youth Life Foundation to develop leaders by making long-term investments in children from at-risk communities. The foundation accomplishes this by supporting students academically, developing their character from a young age, raising expectations, and investing in their lives through committed mentoring relationships. My sister Heather, who we had on an earlier podcast, started this foundation in Richmond, Virginia and they have been running strong now for over 20 years. We took the opportunity to sponsor a hole at their golf tournament this year, where we hung out all day, talking with each group and the celebrities coming through about what we're all about here at Core4Life. We were also able to sit down with Darrell for a bit and record this podcast to hear more about his heart for the foundation. Darrell was quick to mention to us that he turns down most podcasts, but because it was my sister, he was happy to make an exception and we were very appreciative.

A former NFL center, Randy Grimes lived as everyone's all-American—with a successful 10-year career for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a beautiful and devoted college-sweetheart-turned-wife, and two healthy children. But pain took over, and the prescription pills used to treat chronic injuries eventually led to playing in blackouts. When Randy's career ended, the pills continued—feeding an opioid addiction that would last 20+ years and erode his identity, health, and family. When addiction claimed the life of a close friend, Randy finally found the courage to raise his hand and ask for help. This single decision reclaimed Randy's life. Randy found himself having blackouts and waking up with no memory of the game he'd played that afternoon. In spite of this, he was named NFL Man of the Year for his team. After leaving the NFL, Randy's life slid further off center. Without football, he lost his identity, life playbook, and locker room family. In its place, he gained a raging addiction that lasted 20 years and stole nearly everything. Today, Randy is a motivational speaker for Tour de force Speakers and founder of Pro Athletes in Recovery, which provides resources to athletes and others to receive the help they so desperately need. Along with treatment resources, Pro Athletes in Recovery provides aftercare for those who need it. An Official Miami Dolphins Podcast Despite an injury-shortened career that lasted just eight seasons, Dwight Stephenson is universally regarded as one of, if not the greatest center to ever play the game. The Miami Dolphins second-round draft choice in 1980 followed back-to-back national championships at the University of Alabama with five Pro Bowl appearances, 4 First-Team All Pro nods, the 1985 NFL Man of the Year Award, a forever home in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and a spot on the NFL's 100th Anniversary All-Time Team. In the tank, Dwight discusses how the Hampton, Virginia native ended up at Alabama under legendary head coach Paul “Bear” Bryant (5:55), recalls how intimidating Dolphins coaching icon Don Shula could be (9:37), reflects upon his one-armed performance against William “The Refrigerator” Perry in the team's epic 1985 victory over the Chicago Bears (16:23), explains why he often had to quiet down an excitable Miami huddle when Mark Duper and Mark Clayton were around (20:45), laments breaking Kim Bokamper's ankle (25:33) and Dan Marino's finger (29:04), and openly details the circumstances surrounding the injury that ended his storied career (40:11). Contributors to this episode include Sean “DJ Prec” Todd and Dolphins Productions. Theme song created and performed by The Honorable SoLo D.

Joe Theismann is a former CFL and NFL championship quarterback. Joe played for the Toronto Argonauts from 1971-1973 and continued his career in football with the formerly known Washington Redskins (now known as the Washington Football Team). Joe spent 12 years in the NFL and accrued many accolades including, Super Bowl XVII Champion, NFL Man of the Year 1982, NFL MVP 1983, and 2x Pro Bowler, to name a few. Unfortunately, Joe's career ended when his tibia and fibula snapped on live TV while being sacked by New York Giants linebacker, Lawrence Taylor. After his injury, Joe entered into his career with Sport Broadcasting. On today's episode, Joe has a lot of experience and wisdom to share with us. He is selfless and spends his time helping others reach their potential and goals in this life. My favorite qualities about Joe are his ability to listen well, his intentionality with responses, and his kind demeanor. I know you will love this episode and gain many lil "write it down" nuggets! Russell Wilson has won this year's NFL Man of the Year award, and it's well-deserved. Whatever you may think about Russ' clichés, his nerdiness, or his general persona, his volunteer efforts are genuine. We here have seen them firsthand. So, are the Seahawks about to trade him? Rumors started emerging over the weekend that teams were reaching out inquiring about a trade, but there doesn't seem to be much behind these stories, and Ian is pretty sure he knows why. Tom Brady has won yet another Super Bowl. Mike Sando takes a close look at the 31-9 victory for the Bucs. Ian unveils his three stars from yesterday's game. Softy reacts to what was, by most accounts, a boring Super Bowl.

Placekickers | They both could kick a ball, but it was round, not oval. Before their careers were over, it was the oval football they kicked that made all the difference. What a treat to listen to two of the NFL’s all-time great placekickers relate the unlikely roads they both took to become legends in the game. The PlacekickersJan Stenerud was on the field for the Chiefs, Packers and Vikings during a career that covered 1967-1985. He is the first pure placekicker to enter the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Along with a Super Bowl win with the Chiefs and 4 Pro Bowls, he also transformed the placekicking game for all of football. All of this coming almost by accident to a man who came from Norway to Montana State on a ski jumping scholarship.Rolf Benirschke was a placekicker for the San Diego Chargers from 1978-1986. He retired as the all-time leader in points for the Chargers, an NFL Man of the Year Award winner and a fan of Stenerud.Listen to his story of the inadvertent chance to kick a football that leads to his time in the NFL.They watched each other kick, they learned from each other and they competed at the highest level with a talent that brought with it real sport’s pressure. Two exuberant men, two unlikely careers, and two joyful stories told in their own words.

For our latest episode, we turn to another Aggie legend: Rolf Benirschke. Although best known as a San Diego Chargers Hall of Fame placekicker, Benirschke has carried numerous descriptions in his lifetime – zoology student, athlete, philanthropist, motivational speaker, author, advocate, even game show host. However, one word best sums up every aspect of his life: inspirational. An outstanding two-sport athlete at UC Davis, Benirschke was drafted into the NFL in 1977, and traded to the San Diego Chargers. Early in his pro career, he was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis and underwent surgery that resulted in his being fitted with two ostomy appliances. He initially feared that his budding career was over, and that his lifestyle would forever be changed for the worse. Through a combination of hard work and his faith, Benirschke “chose better, not bitter” and worked his way back onto the football field in time for the 1980 season. Over the course of his career, he scored 766 points – a Charger record at the time.During and after his NFL career, Benirschke also exhibited a charitable side that once earned him the NFL Man of the Year Award. He launched an event called Kicks For Critters, later known as the Celebration For The Critters, which has raised millions for the San Diego Kool. Benirschke became an ambassador for the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America and founded Great Comebacks, each of which provide encouragement and support for others who underwent the same ostomy surgery that saved his life years before. He also launched the Rolf Benirschke Legacy Golf Invitational charity event, which even has an award named for legendary Aggie coach Jim Sochor. More than four decades after his surgery, Benirschke continues to inspire and motivate with his message about “the power of the human spirit.”

Sports Marketing pioneer Mary McKay, President, Access Brand Management, shares with Pro Mindset host Craig Domann her entry into sports marketing with Walter Payton, her full immersion in representing Emmitt Smith, Tony Romo, Chad Hennings and several other Dallas Cowboys. Mary transitioned from working for Sears and looking for a spokesperson (Walter Payton) to working with famous motivational speaker Zig Zigler to working full-time with athletes helping them find the best fit for their passions off-the-field.Mary shares her perspective on what the most successful athletes have in common – they make family a priority and they know who they are. On the other side of the spectrum, the players whose careers are headed to an end usually are the ones who believe their own PR and the hype.Mary is very fond of her relationship with Sweetness Walter Payton and she says what make him special was he put others first and it’s no accident that the NFL Man of the Year Award is named after Walter. She tells stories about Emmitt Smith and his zeal for learning about real estate and electronics and so she connected him with companies in those industries. She got Tony Romo his first marketing opportunity when he was still on the bench with the Cowboys. Lastly, she claims Sears paid Walter Payton more money one season than the Chicago Bears did as he exemplified the slogan “satisfaction guaranteed or your money back”. Finally, Mary talks about Zig Zigler’s key to success was his ability to talk “to” his audiences rather than talk “at” them and this meant he spoke at a 7th grade level, as well as, he touched people’s souls.

Is there anything you would pay $3,400 (the price of a Super Bowl ticket) to see? Why the hell is it only 10 to 1 against there being an earthquake during the Super Bowl? If you won the NFL Man of the Year Award, would it help you picking up prostitutes if you had the trophy in the car?
Tony came right out of the gate in our first show since before the holidays and blasted the further wussification of America with the latest Gillette ads crying about "toxic masculinity" while air heads watch shameful shows like the Bachelor and Bachelorette on Disney owned ABC where a single loser guy gets to bang 15 shallow women or where 1 woman gets to sample a bunch of bone head bros. He also exposed the irony of athletes like Reggie Bush for claiming the Clemson national championship team which went to the WH got a "slap in the face" for being served fast food, while he scammed a free house for his parents in San Diego, got to drive a luxury car and cost his USC team tons of scholarships, a national championship and his own Heisman trophy for being a selfish, greedy, pampered, celeb sniffing hypocrite athlete who finished his career in Buffalo with minus yards rushing. Former Kansas City Chiefs kicking great Nick Lowery joined the show for a great conversation about kickers, his career, the stash and the high hopes for this KC team at home against the incredible Tim Brady and the New England Patriots in the AFC championship game late Sunday afternoon at Arrowhead Stadium. Lowery has been very active in the community and won NFL Man of the year 5 times, worked with at risk and disabled youth, the homeless, sports bullying and is now is an advocate for Pharma company Kannalife which has developed a new therapeutic and patented chemical entity to treat a multitude of neurodegenerative diseases like HE, CTE and Drug dependency. He also picked the Chiefs to beat the Patriots by 10 points on Sunday, and yes, he is a homer. As we wrapped up with Nick, another former NFL star joined us live at Moonshine Philly. West Chester University star and 8 year San Francisco 49'er Linebacker Lee Woodall. He won a SB in his rookie year against the San Diego Chargers in Miami in the Steve Young 6 td game after taking over from the reigns after Joe Montana to KC. We talked lots of football, how small college guys like him, Widener college standout Billy White Shoes Johnson and many others paved the way for NFL teams to look closer at small college standouts. Lee and his wife Terry also do lots of work in the community and are very active in Autism awareness in the Philly area. Our friend Buffy Harakidas joined the conversation on the phone to talk about the 25th anniversary of the best party in Philly - the Hair O' the Dog coming up whit Saturday night at the amazing Crystal Tea Room in Philly.(hairothedog.com) She started this event to raise money for charity while putting on a fun, big name entertainment, celebrities and regular folks mingling filled bash which has raised millions over the years. This Saturday's party will benefit the Morris Animal Refuge, one of the only remaining privately funded open admissions shelters that has never turned an animal away and has a 97% save rate. www.morrisanimalrefuge.org We also invited Lee Woodell and his wife to join as as Luigi guaranteed he would get us all dolled up by our friend Michael Domenico at Domenico's Formal Wear (domenicstuxedos.net) They've been dressing our guys and listeners for years and offer a $100 dollar tux rental for Hair O the Dog customers. We wrapped up with our old pal Ken Cage from Airplane Repo who previewed an open to the public party coming up Monday to launch his new on-line series for all of the repo fans who have been asking for more. @RenegadeRepo will be rolling out soon and we'll be on hand at @2SPBrewing in Aston, Delaware County.
