In this powerful message, “Only One Way to Win,” Josh Craft teaches that winning in life requires discipline, endurance, and daily self-control—not talent or motivation alone Drawing from 1 Corinthians 9, Pastor Josh explains how athletes in the ancient world trained relentlessly long before race day ever arrived. In the same way, our spiritual, emotional, and relational victories are determined by what we practice daily.

The Christian life is not a sprint but a race of endurance, and there's only one way to finish well—by keeping our eyes on Jesus. In this episode, Only One Way to Finish, we reflect on how faith, perseverance, and God's grace equip us to cross the finish line. Discover the hope that strengthens weary hearts, the discipline that shapes our daily walk, and the joy that awaits when we endure to the end.
The Christian faith is very clear on this one important fact - that there is salvation in nothing or no one else but the Lord Jesus Christ. Acts 4:12 states: "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." Man's universal problem is sin - and sin must be put away if we are to be on the right terms with a holy God. As sinners, we cannot do this ourselves. We need the intervention of another who has no sin of His own - that is, the sacrifice of Christ on the cross. And there is only one way to receive it - by trusting in His work alone.

Today, we're discussing the recent passing of Pope Francis. As a Protestant, I don't hold to Catholic doctrine, and I've had some serious theological issues with the papacy—but that doesn't mean I won't stop to reflect when someone steps into eternity. In this episode, I'm praying for Pope Francis' soul and hoping he had a deathbed conversion—because no one is beyond God's reach. I also hope Catholics choose a biblical pope next time, not one more interested in pleasing the world than honoring the Word. We'll talk about the things he did right—his care for the poor and moments of humility. But we'll also look at the dangerous things he got wrong:Promoting open borders that have devastated countries and erased traditionSaying all religions worship the same God (they don't)Claiming the human heart is good (the Bible says it's deceitful above all things)Ignoring original sin and the fallen nature of manThis is a respectful but honest take on a figure who meant a lot to many—but who, like all of us, needed Christ above all.--https://noblegoldinvestments.com/
Pre-order Van Halen Live in Dallas 1991 now!
Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour #604 is an hour of improvised visionary music played on a frozen, still January day in 2025 at Singing Brook Studio in Worthington, Massachusetts. The Gaea Star Band featuring Mariam Massaro on vocals, Native flute, kalimba, dulcimer, 4- and 8-string ukulele, mandolin, Celtic harp, harmonica and acoustic guitar, Bob Sherwood on piano and Craig Harris on congas and Native low drum begin this dynamic, inspired hour with the gentle, acoustic guitar-led minor ballad “I Am Spirit Manifest” before bringing in the varied, evocative “In The Full Moon”, a pulsing, jazzy composition featuring chiming Celtic harp, throbbing low drum and flights of majestic Native flute. “Let's Slow Right Down” is a bittersweet, drifting coda to “In The Full Moon” with graceful, distant, echoing Native flute and gorgeous in-the-moment composition on the piano. “Grateful For The Memories” is a whimsical folk song with a fine vocal and tight, ringing 8-string ukulele from Mariam and hard blues piano from Bob. Mariam creates a wonderful elasticity on her ringing dulcimer that provides a framework for Bob's chordal support on the gorgeous, mystical “Happy I Am” and mournful, unhurried kalimba ushers in the unusual, circular “There's Only One Way”, a wonderfully melancholic, majestic moment of achingly pretty minimalism is held in frame by Bob's Prokofiev-derived piano movements and Mariam's powerful melody. “Oh Mother Earth” is the major-keyed analog to Mariam's powerful song “I Am The Mother Earth” and in this expansive, joyful framework, driven along by Mariam's crisp mandolin, becomes a piece of front-porch Americana. We finish today's varied, inspired show with an upbeat version of Mariam's island song “Lead Me Down”. Learn more about Mariam here: http://www.mariammassaro.com

How close is the 2024 presidential election? Here is how the New York Times framed it recently: “Never in modern presidential campaigns have so many states been so tight this close to Election Day. Polling averages show that all seven battleground states are within the margin of error, meaning the difference between a half-point up and a half-point down — essentially a rounding error — could win or lose the White House.” A recent Times-Sienna poll has the race between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris deadlocked at 48 to 48. Other polls are similarly close — which does not mean they are all telling the same story. Today's guest, Kristen Soltis Anderson, writes that although “several of them show a dead heat, beneath the surface, they diverge in how they arrive at that result”. What stories can we glean from each poll? What theories of this election can we derive from those stories? Are the polls even right? And why, despite verbal gaffes and incendiary rallies and international conflict and general campaign turmoil, have the polling averages remained so steady in recent months? Kristen is a founding partner of Echelon Insights, an opinion research and analytics firm, and contributing Opinion writer to the New York Times, where she often writes about what is knowable and not knowable based on the polls. We talk about all these themes, including a theory of the election that Kristen came upon while watching football in Phoenix on a Sunday. Finally, we discuss a detailed survey of American workers that Echelon Insights, Kristen's firm, put into the field for the Economic Innovation Group — and its most surprising findings. All this and more on today's episode!RELATED LINKS: Opinion | The Polls Show a Dead Heat, but They Don't All Tell the Same StoryOpinion | Two Weeks to Go, but Only One Way to Stay CalmOpinion | This Year's October Surprise May Be That There Isn't OneOpinion | Why the Election Is Coming Down to Defining Kamala Harris - The New York TimesOpinion | I've Studied the Polls. In this episode of Enrich Your Future, Andrew and Larry Swedroe discuss Larry's new book, Enrich Your Future: The Keys to Successful Investing. In this series, they discuss Chapter 17: There is Only One Way to See Things Rightly.LEARNING: Consider the overall impact of investments rather than focusing on individual metrics. "There is only one right way to build a portfolio—by recognizing that the risk and return of any asset class by itself should be irrelevant."Larry Swedroe In this episode of Enrich Your Future, Andrew and Larry Swedroe discuss Larry's new book, Enrich Your Future: The Keys to Successful Investing. The book is a collection of stories that Larry has developed over 30 years as the head of financial and economic research at Buckingham Wealth Partners to help investors. You can learn more about Larry's Worst Investment Ever story on Ep645: Beware of Idiosyncratic Risks.Larry deeply understands the world of academic research and investing, especially risk. Today, Andrew and Larry discuss Chapter 17: There is Only One Way to See Things Rightly.Chapter 17: There is Only One Way to See Things RightlyIn this chapter, Larry enlightens us on the benefits of considering the overall impact of investments rather than focusing on individual metrics. This holistic approach empowers investors and advisors to make more informed decisions.Don't view an asset class's returns and risk in isolationA common mistake that investors and even professional advisors often make is viewing an asset class's returns and risk in isolation. Larry emphasizes this point by giving the example of Vanguard's popular index funds, the largest index funds in their respective categories, to make us all more cautious and aware of the potential pitfalls of this approach. From 1998 through 2022, the Vanguard 500 Index Fund (VFINX) returned 7.53% per annum, outperforming Vanguard's Emerging Markets Index Fund (VEIEX), which returned 6.14% per annum. VFINX also experienced lower volatility of 15.7% versus 22.6% for VEIEX. The result was that VFINX produced a much higher Sharpe ratio (risk-adjusted return measure) of 0.43 versus 0.30 for VEIEX.Why more volatile emerging markets have a higher returnAccording to Larry, despite including an allocation to the lower returning and more volatile VEIEX, a portfolio of 90% VFINX/10% VEIEX, rebalanced annually, would have outperformed, returning 7.59%. And it did so while also producing the same Sharpe ratio of 0.43. Perhaps surprisingly, a 20% allocation to VEIEX would have done even better, returning 7.61% with a 0.43 Sharpe ratio.Even a 30% allocation to VEIEX would have returned 7.59%, higher than the 7.53% return of VFINX (though the Sharpe ratio would have fallen slightly to 0.42 from 0.43). The portfolios that included an allocation to the lower-returning and more volatile emerging markets benefited from the imperfect correlation of returns (0.77) between the S&P 500 Index and the MSCI Emerging Markets Index. The right way to build a portfolioLarry says there is only one right way to build a portfolio—by recognizing that the risk and return of any asset class by itself should be irrelevant. The only thing that should matter is considering how adding an asset class impacts the risk and return of the entire...

Van Halen songs comprised two-thirds of the performance. Hagar opened the evening with a rendition of "Good Enough," the opening track from 1986's "5150" album, accompanied by guitarist Joe Satriani, bassist Michael Anthony, drummer Jason Bonham, and multi-instrumentalist Rai Thistlethwayte. He followed this with two songs from 1991's "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge": "Poundcake" and "Runaround." The set also featured David Lee Roth-era Van Halen classics such as "Panama" and "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love," with a section of "Jump" appearing in a medley that included Montrose's "Space Station #5" and Chickenfoot's "Oh Yeah." The performance also showcased Joe Satriani's iconic "Satch Boogie," a track he frequently played during his time with Deep Purple. Hagar delivered solo classics like "There's Only One Way to Rock," "Eagles Fly," "Heavy Metal," and "I Can't Drive 55." Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour #565 is an hour of improvised, visionary acoustic music from the Gaea Star Band with Mariam Massaro on vocals, Native flute, acoustic guitar, dulcimer, Celtic harp, shruti box and ukulele, Bob Sherwood on piano and Craig Harris on Native drum and congas. Taped live at Singing Brook Studio in Worthington, Massachusetts in late February of 2023, today's show begins with the alluring, gently unfolding “Full Moon”, a silvery, delicate piece framed by Mariam's chiming acoustic guitar and Bob's embracing piano figures. “Oh, Heavenly Mother” continues a lush, romantic mood with Mariam's gentle vocal over a whispery, steady rhythm track and “On The Way Home” is a gorgeous, ambitious, unsettled epic with another exceptional vocal from Mariam and energized, imaginative, jazzy support from the ensemble. “The Key Is To Only Do What Makes You Sparkle” is a slow, stately song with a deeply affecting conversation between Mariam's somber, soaring vocal and lyrical, spacious Native flute, heartbeat Native drum and expansive gospel piano. “Yemanja” from the “Gaea Star Goddesses” album is re-animated as a beautiful, dulcimer-drone based raga, powerful and driving and adorned with Mariam's vivid ocean-and-sky word pictures. “There's Only One Way” is a pure, simple, powerful folk song with a deep, throbbing heartbeat and “Seeds In The Ground”, Mariam's country blues rocker from the “For The Children” album is taken out for a kinetic, energized spin. We close today's show with the somber, patient, spacious “Hope”, another gentle vehicle for a rich vocal-and-flute conversation from Mariam set to modern jazz piano. You don't have to be a jerk to be an apologist. In fact, if you're being a jerk, you're not doing apologetics in a biblical way, because biblical apologetics calls Christians to defend the faith in “meekness and fear” (1 Peter 3:15b). So how can we do apologetics without being a jerk? One of the best ways not to be a jerk is to listen to 1980s rock, which is why your intrepid cohosts have included clips from Bon Jovi and Sammy Hagar-era Van Halen in this episode. (Fun fact: Jon Bon Jovi's last name is actually spelled “Bongiovi,” and “Böngïövï” would have been an amazing name for the band.) But you need more than 1980s rock to grow in meekness, and that's why this episode goes far beyond merely reminding you of the greatness of Bon Jovi and Van Halen. In this second episode in a two-part series about where to begin in apologetics, the dynamic duo provides you with their final four points about apologetics—all of which can help you to do apologetics with gentleness and reverence while listening to Bon Jovi, which is the opposite of being a jerk. Here are the four points from this episode: 4. The life of a faithful apologist is marked by meekness. 5. Faithful apologists are more interested in winning people than in winning arguments. 6. Faithful apologists use different methods to meet different challenges. 7. Faithful apologists see apologetics as a work of the whole church. ABOUT YOUR HOSTS Timothy Paul Jones, Ph.D., is C. Edwin Gheens Professor of Christian Ministry at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He teaches in the areas of family ministry and applied apologetics. He has authored or edited more than a dozen books, including Why Should I Trust the Bible?, The God Who Goes Before You, Perspectives on Family Ministry, and Christian History Made Easy. Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour #482 is an hour of visionary acoustic improvisational music played live by The Gaea Star Band with Mariam Massaro on vocals, Native flute, acoustic guitar and ukulele, Bob Sherwood on piano and Craig Harris on drums. Recorded in late February 2022 at Singing Brook Studio in Worthington, Massachusetts, today's show begins with the somber, elegiac “There's Only One Way” a tribute to the people of Ukraine that weaves around a powerful, repetitive piano motif with lyrical Native flute touches from Mariam and powerful drums from Craig. “Gather Together” and “Freedom” follow, two of Mariam's finer folk songs given powerful treatments by the band. “Flowers Of Delight” is another gorgeous song from Mariam, this one from last year's “Release” album and the band plays it in an imaginative waltz format, giving this elegant song an even more refined setting. “Wind On The Water” is a mysterious, whispering piece with a slightly haunted piano motif and beautiful, lyrical native flute from Mariam. “Perhaps” is a delightful blues barrelhouse song from Mariam featuring her chiming 8-string ukulele, a skipping conga groove from Craig and Bob's Ray Charles piano with a prominent, hypnotic left hand. “Perhaps” is a vast, wide-open folk song with a bittersweet, wishful lyric from Mariam and masterful gospel piano from Bob. We conclude today with the mystical, evocative “I Am Here Now” another spacious, evocative peace that Mariam drapes in her unmistakable native flute work. Sounds good, I can do that. But since Jesus didn't tell us exactly how to share the Gospel (He just tells us to do it), can we share the Gospel however we want, or do we have to do it a certain way?2. 13:05 {Is Modalism Heresy?} Why is modalism considered such heresy? I think it’s incorrect, but many people question the very salvation of those who hold to this doctrine. How vital to salvation is the correct understanding of the Trinity?3. 16:58 {When You’re Far from God} My heart is hardened, I’m backslidden, a carnal Christian…whatever you want to call it. I am so far from God right now. I want to love Him, but I don’t. I’m afraid of Hell. What can I do to heal?4. 21:23 {Why Didn’t Jesus Inherit Adam’s Sin?} Since Jesus was fully man, as well as fully God, according to the hypostatic union, how did He not inherit Adam's sin that all men inherit according to Psalm 51:5?5. 25:27 {Is the Resurrection Proof of Jesus’ Deity?} What should I say to someone who isn’t impressed with the resurrection of Jesus proving that He is God? I don’t think there is a better miracle explaining who God is and what He does.6. 28:17 {Advising Others on Theologically Bad Content} What do you say to Christians who say they have been blessed by the movie “The Shack” and other Progressive content, even though it is filled with New Age themes and Progressive Christianity?7. 31:37 {Explaining a Confusing Passage of Scripture} Is the man in Matthew 22: 11-13 thrown out for not doing good works, considering Revelation 19:8?8. 36:17 {Transubstantiation, Consubstantiation, & Symbolism} What are your thoughts on the Lutheran view of communion (consubstantiation in contrast to the Catholic transubstantiation)?
