In the age of cancel culture, parental alienation is becoming increasingly more common. Not just with one parent keeping their minor children from the other parent, or poisoning their children against the parent, but Adult children are also turning against a parent or parents. Often where there is alienation of an adult child, there is some form of narcissism. Either one or both parents are narcissistic, the adult child is narcissistic, or the adult child's partner or spouse is narcissistic. Where there is narcissism there is a lack of forgiveness, blame, shame and projection. In this episode of Pandora's Box Radio, Kaleah does a deep dive into Parental Alienation, focusing specifically on adult child alienation. Unraveling the complexities of 'alienation' in family law, this episode dissects the controversial concept of the debunked 'parental alienation syndrome', and reveals the deep-seated biases that imperil protective mothers and their children in the Australian legal system. You're invited to join a critical conversation that questions the societal and legal insistence on preserving a child's connection with both parents in the face of abuse. This discussion exposes the systemic failures that endanger children placed in contact with abusive parents, and sheds light on the inadvertent yet troubling role that professionals may play in perpetuating this cycle.Host and specialist Separation and Divorce Coach, Danielle Black, champions the abandonment of discredited terms like 'parental alienation', advocating for clearer language that truly captures the manipulative tactics of abusers and reinforcing the urgency of protecting both women and children post-separation. In Danielle's trademark 'no BS' style, and drawing from her own lived experience as well as that of her many clients, this episode serves as a clarion call for change.I'm a specialist Separation & Divorce Coach based in Melbourne, Australia.I support women in the southern hemisphere who are navigating ongoing control and other forms of abuse after separation. To learn more about what I do, and how to work with me, visit: https://www.danielleblackcoaching.com.au For more information about post-separation abuse: https://www.danielleblackcoaching.com.au/thank-youFor more information about separation planning (including a checklist):https://www.danielleblackcoaching.com.au/separationplanningFollow me on Instagram: @danielleblackcoachingMORE SUPPORT (within Australia):1800RESPECT: 1800 737 732 Lifeline: 13 11 14 13 YARN on 13 92 76 (24/7 crisis support phone line for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples)

In Episode 20 of the Narcissistic Abuse Rehab Podcast, we explore the topic ‘How Family Court Enabled The Coercive Control of Catherine Kassenoff,' in an exclusive interview with renowned journalist and divorce coach, Amy Polacko. Catherine alleged that she suffered years of punishing post-separation abuse from her ex-spouse, Allan Kassenoff. We analyze how biases in the family court system allegedly allowed Allan to use a psychological theory that has been discredited and debunked by the American Bar Association, the American Psychology Association, and the UN to gain sole custody and wage an endless campaign of psychological terror that ended in tragedy. #IAmCatherineKassenoff EPISODE OVERVIEW - Catherine Kassenoff's story - Post-separation abuse - Parental Alienation Syndrome (PAS) - The patholigization of women in the family court system - DARVO: Definition + Mechanics - Vexatious litigation - The Privilege of Rage - Case Studies: Tina Turner, Amber Heard, Angelina Jolie - The commodification of child custody disputes - Meta-patriarchal violence - Jennifer's Law - The link between PTSD and Depression Comorbidity and Female Mortality - Child mortality in child custody disputes - Coercive control + femicide - UN Special Rapporteur Reem Alsalem's Statement LINKS + RESOURCES - Amy Polacko's Official Website - https://www.freedomwarrior.info - Wakefield, M (2023, February 18). ‘PTSD + Depression Comorbidity Increase Risk of Mortality In Women.' https://www.narcissisticabuserehab.com/ptsd-and-depression/ - Statement by Reem Alsalem, Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women + Girls, Its Causes, and Consequences, 53rd session of the Human Rights Council. Theresa Agostinelli is an Author, Media, Biz Coach, Corporate Trainer, and JMT Author of The GRID System: The GRID System: Creating More of What's Good in Your Lifehttps://www.amazon.com/GRID-System-Creating-More-Whats/dp/1990801005Theresa pointed out the difference as a preferred provider due to her experience and expertise in the Court system during divorce and custody situations. She shared that Parental Alienation Syndrome is more recognized today than in the past. It is not a clinically accepted situation but therapists and counselors are equipped to deal with the negative impact it has on children. She has developed an eight point system for counseling children and has published about it as well. Her process of helping includes: ask, suggest, and requirement depending on what is needed in each individual case. The custody process entails that either a Judge or an attorney will choose a counselor and can serve on both sides, for either a mother or a father, and they deal with the same attorneys repeatedly. Theresa stressed that Court Orders should be enforced and Judges should be vigilant in requiring parents to comply. COVID brought on a whole new set of issues in that children or parents were ill, arrangements were more difficult to fulfill, and anxiety increased as a result of the conditions. If a party during disputes was not cooperative she suggested that Contempt filings should be made so that parents could work together co-parenting. A unique aspect of her expertise had to do with the important role that grandparents (and family generally) play in custody and divorce situations. The role of the grandparents can bring stability and support to the children caught in the middle of custody. Divorce is difficult. Custody battles are painful- and parental alienation is a systematic form of abuse. Listen to Kindra and Mick unpack the 10 biggest lessons they learned from their guest Michele Fineran. 10 Takeaways:1. The definition of Parental Alienation Syndrome has changed and is recognized now.2. Many children return to the alienated parent as they get older.3. There are age-appropriate differences in healing children from custody and alienation: youngest children fear a loss of parent's love, grade-age kids blame failure on themselves, and teenagers are often angry. 4. Co-parenting and cooperation is ideal for all children to experience.5. Children tend to align with the disciplining parent.6. Likewise, children favor identifying with same-sex parents, boys with fathers, and girls with mothers.7. The Law might help to co-parent with a narcissistic parent. 8. Single-parent households, particularly mothers with boys, often lack the ability to discipline effectively.9. The "Ronald McDonald" parent is favored by children in the short term but over the long term, the disciplinarian is respected by kids.10. Parents should set an example of positive role models for children to be healthy adults. Learn more about your hosts Mick Smith and Kindra Riber. Sometimes a child's parent goes beyond the stereotypical defaming of the other parent. When this happens we have to think of this process as similar to the type of programming associated with a cult. https://www.familylawpleasanton.com/blog/2020/10/the-8-symptoms-of-parental-alienation/

With special guest: Linda Gottlieb Kase… in conversation with Bill Kable In today’s program we go to New York to find out the latest on the way Parental Alienation is treated by the Courts and by therapists internationally. While Parental Alienation Syndrome (or PAS) still appears to be a controversial topic in Australia there is no difficulty in recognising this evil for what it is in the USA. Podcast (mp3)
Here we go again. Is it time to just do away with "syndromes" that aren't evidence-based? The pseudo term, Parental Alienation Syndrome (PAS), has been the label given to a set of problematic behaviors that can be very troubling for divorcing families. Additionally, we cover the Mia Farrow and Woody Allen case, which was the first case to thrust PAS into the public eye, as well as a sinister case that ends in murder. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/lansc/message
The components of parental alienation are discussed so therapists and legal professionals can investigate and identify the details commonly associated with this phenomenon.
There is so much research on the effects of divorce and broken marriages on the adults and on the children. But, in the last 30 years much research has taken place into the effects of what is now termed Parental Alienation Syndrome. Dr. Rick talks about his experience being an alienated child against his mother and relates his experience to the research and patterns of alienated children and the targeted parent.
Ever been through a nasty divorce involving kids? Ever been a kid stuck in the middle? Sometimes, with ill intentions, one parent will manipulate their children to hating the other parent. Welcome to Parental Alienation Syndrome! In this episode we talk about PAS, narcissism, and a murder case involved a manipulated child. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/wtpsychology/support
This first episode introduces the concept of Parental Alienation and begins to explain how the phenomenon can happen in children who previously have had a loving, attached relationship with a parent.

On this episode, Ginger returns to her roots: true crime, bad science, and sexual predators. We're talking about Richard Gardner, child psychiatrist and man who was definitely subscribed to TheRedPill on Reddit, whose name was recently dropped in HBO's "Allen V. Farrow" docuseries. Gardner was the brain behind "Parental Alienation Syndrome," a thing that is definitely not real but still managed to use in order to ruin lives for decades. This is definitely a Vodka Cranberry (hold the Cranberry) kind of episode. Featuring Ren's new favorite serotonin-boosting TV show, Destiel becoming canon, and the eternal reminder to stop comparing your hurt feelings to the Holocaust. Citations at thisfnguypod.com. **A word of caution--these conversations contains frank discussions of child sexual abuse and the effects of abuse.** This year, in recognition of DVAM, the Engendered Collective hosted a series of community conversations to bring greater awareness to domestic abuse and gender-based violence. Today's conversation deals with the intersection of domestic violence and systemic sexism and child abuse. Our guests included Anita, "Annabelle," "Courtney," and Roz. Anita Gera is a protective mom from Great Britain. In 2014, Anita went to the British police to seek protection when her abusive and controlling ex-husband, an American pilot, threatened to take their children from the UK without her permission. Over the next year, through her ex-husband's use of the Hague Convention, Anita's case brought her back to the USA and resulted in a divorce and custody decision that would dramatically change the course of Anita and her children's lives. She has not been able to see her children, now thirteen and fifteen years old, since August 2015. Anita doesn't know when she will be able to see her children again as she has neither the means nor resources to enforce her parenting time with her children and she fears that doing so would put them at greater risk of harm by their father who has now ceased all contact with her. "Annabelle" is a divorced Maryland mother who shares custody of two children living with abuse and coercive control. On their weeks with their father, her children have no phone access to their mother, their friends, or 911. They live in fear of having food withheld and of abuse under the guise of corporal punishment. "Courtney" is a survivor of domestic violence, the family law courts, child protection services and bankruptcy. A judge ordered unsupervised parenting when her son was three, even though he noted that there was a “preponderance of evidence” proving the father was not able to keep him safe. When in the father's care for a few hours at a time unsupervised, Courtney's son suffered more injuries, including concussions, repeated head and face bruises, lacerations, ER visits, rashes and swelling of his genitals and a red and swollen rectum. Despite multiple medical and mental health professionals filing child protection reports for suspected abuse, and court testimony by Courtney's son's therapist of her concerns about suspected sexual and physical abuse by the father - the father's testimony of a past child sex assault, the judge recently granted the unthinkable - extended, unsupervised, overnight visits. Courtney's goal of telling her story is to help mothers feel they are not alone because the support from protective Moms has given me the ability to continue to find strength and the most effective ways to help my child in a broken system. Roz Davidson is Director of The Positive Parenting Company Ltd and a National Consultant and a Trainer in the UK implementing the "Community Groups Programme" a therapeutic program for women and children recovering from domestic abuse. It is a child-focused piece of work with the Mother supporting the child and addresses self-blame, attachment, what is abuse, emotional regulation across themed sessions delivered over 12 weeks. You can learn more about the Community Groups Programme here. During our conversation, Anita, Annabelle, Courtney, and Roz and I touched upon the following resources: The definition of a "protective mother" Examples of #abusertactics, #signsofabuse, and #upstandertips Teri's post on the cultural history of "PAS" or "Parental Alienation Syndrome" as an abuser disinformation tactic to discredit victims' legitimate claims of abuse The AFCC and its complicity with enabling the abuser narrative of "PAS" through their codification and institutionalization of this nonscience and fact-based and discredited abuser disinformation tactic Examples from listeners of coercive control The role of "male supremacists"--the gender equivalent of "white supremacists," but often mischaracterized as "MRA" or "men's rights activists" The documentary, What Doesn't Kill Me, which addresses systemic gender bias against protective moms in family court The effects of trauma on protective moms and children exposed to abuse --- Thanks for tuning in to the en(gender)ed podcast! When you realized your divorce was going to be difficult, I'll bet you worried about your ex talking badly about you to the children, trying to win them over. Did you? Did you worry about the children being lied to about you?Did you ex tell the children s/he was the better parent, the one who gave them more, etc.? This leads to Parental Alienation. Here's part of the definition of Parental Alienation Syndrome from the American Psychological Association: " ...a child's experience of being manipulated by one parent to turn against the other (targeted) parent and resist contact with him or her. The alignment with one parent and rejection of the other most often arises during child custody disputes following divorce or separation proceedings, particularly when the litigation is prolonged or involves significant antagonism between the parties."It's a significant concern when you are separating or divorcing from a #Hijackal, a relentlessly difficult, toxic person. Joe Goldberg offers invaluable insights into parental alienation that you need to see clearly. Listen in. On this episode of en(gender)ed, our guest is Jess Hill, an investigative journalist who has been researching and writing about domestic abuse since 2014. Jess was listed in Foreign Policy's top 100 women to follow on Twitter and one of the 30 most influential people under 30 by Cosmopolitan magazine. We speak with Jess today about her book, “See What You Made Me Do: Power, Control and Domestic Abuse” and the issues it addresses with regard to how patriarchy constructs masculinity and its intersection with how society defines abuse, enables it, minimizes it, and misconstrues it. In our conversation, Jess and I also delve into the ways her book and research offers examples of success and disruption that are worth exploring. During our conversation, Jess and I referenced the following resources and topics: The case of Luke Batty in 2014 that started Jess to report on domestic abuse Jess' approach as a journalist on how she investigated and told these stories Lundy Bancroft's Why Does He Do That? Domestic abuse as "coercive control" and Evan Stark's book by the same name Diana Russell's Rape in Marriage Albert Biderman's "Chart of Coercion" Different types of perpetrators and common behaviors or behavioral drivers The impact of attachment theory in family court outcomes and, subsequently, abusers' use of disinformation tactics like Richard Gardner's "Parental Alienation Syndrome" theory to bias family courts against victims of abuse across the globe Ferraro and Johnson's list of six ways in which women rationalize their abuse to stay in their relationships Women's police stations in the global south, including Brazil, Argentina, India, that offer female police officers that help other women leave abusive relationships and pursue accountability through the courts The Northpoint, NC, "focused deterrence" or "transformative justice" approach to increasing abuser accountability --- Thanks for tuning in to the en(gender)ed podcast! Parental Alienation occurs during the timeframe of a divorce or a separation. This condition is identified when a child expresses UNJUSTIFIED HATRED or UNREASONABLE DISLIKE of a parent and aligns with the one parent they prefer. Parental Alienation makes a rejected parent's access and relationship with the child difficult or impossible to maintain. Our guest, Joseph Goldberg, is founder of the CanadianSymposium for Parental Alienation Syndrome (CSPAS). Topics in the program include: How to recognize a parental alienation problem with your child and what parents should be on the lookout for in identifying this problem What are the psychological markers to help mental health professionals differentiate between a case of Real Abuse from cases of Real Parental Alienation? Narcissistic parents can be highly manipulative and incredibly destructive--oftentimes manipulating their own children and turning them against the other parent and against the other parent's family. When this happens to an extreme degree, it is referred to as "Parental Alienation Syndrome." This episode talks about some strategies to help prevent your child from being manipulated before any potential manipulation starts.
There are judges, guardians, lawyers, arbitrators, psychologists, advocates, mediators, child protection services, social workers, and more who all can be involved when there is a divorce or litigation in family courts across the country. Who are these people? What do they do? How expert are they? What do they know about intimate partner violence? Who do they represent? What do they cost? Do they help or hurt? And how can they impact decisions like child custody? There have been studies of the situations with these ancillary court personnel, and there is pracitcal experience about them. Richard Ducote joins us for a discussion about al the people who make up cases and decisions in family court. Ducote has represented hundreds of abused children over the last 30 years of his law practice. In the 1980's he began reoresenting victims of sexual abuse and domestic violence focusing on cases where courts had awarded custody of children to molesters and violence perpetrators. He is an ardent opponent of the so-called Parental Alienation Syndrome often used by abusers to gain visitation or custody of children in domestic violence cases. That opposition led to his participation in cases in 44 different states as well as to appearances on Oprah, 60 minutes, Good Morning Britain, and Leeza. He has been interviewed and quoted in Parade Magazine, Good Housekeeping, Money, and the National Law Journal. His expertise is profound, his awards numerous, and his knowledge about gamily court abuses is extensive. Join us as we talk about the population of victims, perpetrators, personnel, decision makers, and others involved in teh drama that is family court.

Men's Family Law - Nationally recognized Father's Rights expert David Pisarra explains the three most important things fathers need to know about Child Custody and the strategy for getting the most time with their child. This week I explain what forms are needed to get a hearing for a child custody plan, what you should put in your declaration to make the judge want to give you the time you need with your children. I give tips on how to fill out the fl-150 the income and expense declaration and create a Profit and Loss statement if you're self-employed. I speak with Dr. Carol Hirshfield about the difference between Parental Alienation Syndrome and Parental Alienation. We talk about what Reunification Therapy is and why she thinks it should be called Famiy Therapy. We explore why some kids might be more attached to one parent than the other, and why that is not a bad thing always.
About the book: There’s no question about it: your children are the most important thing in your life. But if you have gone through a messy divorce, your relationship with your children may become strained if you have to deal with a toxic ex. Your ex may bad-mouth you in front of the kids, accuse you of being a bad parent, and even attempt to replace you in the children’s lives with a new partner. As a result, your children may become confused, conflicted, angry, anxious, or depressed—and you may feel powerless. In Co-parenting with a Toxic Ex, a nationally recognized parenting expert offers you a positive parenting approach to dealing with a hostile ex-spouse. You’ll learn to avoid the most common mistakes of coparenting, how to avoid “parental alienation syndrome,” and effective techniques for talking to your children in a way that fosters open and honest response. In addition, you’ll learn how to protect your children from painful loyalty conflicts between you and your ex-spouse. Divorce is often painful, especially if your ex habitually tries to undermine your relationship with your children. But with the right tools you can protect your kids and make your relationship with them stronger than ever. This book can show you how. About the author: Amy J. L. Baker, PhD, is a national expert on children caught in loyalty conflicts and has written a seminal book on the topic, Adult Children of Parental Alienation Syndrome, published by W.W. Norton and Company. In addition to conducting trainings around the country for parents as well as legal and mental health professionals, Baker has written dozens of scholarly articles on topics related to parent-child relationships and has appeared on national TV, including Good Morning America, CNN, and the Joy Behar Show. She has been quoted in the New York Times and US News and World Report, among other print media outlets. Baker graduated from Barnard College, summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. She has a PhD in human development from Teachers College, Columbia University. More information is available on her website at www.amyjlbaker.com.

Our guest, Daddys Sverige, author of http://www.daddys-sverige.com/, has plenty of experience in dealing with the highly biased Swedish Social Services and Family Courts and in countering the lies and the misleading data promoted by the impeccably progressive and state-controlled Swedish media. We will also talk about the incredibly high number of children suffering from Parental Alienation Syndrome in Sweden, following the 2006 Custody Act and about other general issues as, unfortunately, there is no shortage of issues faced by men and boys in Sweden at this point. The subject is complex and it's the first time we have a Swede coming to our show and willing to explain us in great detail how things are working in Sweden, so please join us and call in at (001) 310 388 9709, or Skype in, after the news. Today, for the first time ever, A Fine Time for Healing will feature an expert guest who will bring to light a widespread form of child abuse that for many years has been swept under the proverbial rug. This abuse is called "Parental Alienation." Today's guest, Sara Hassman, is a diligent, caring professional with a passion for children's rights. The organization she founded, Parental Alienation Solutions, focuses on bringing awareness to a specific form of child abuse; the emotional abuse of children of divorce who have been taught to hate or fear their other loving parent. This abuse is devastating to both the child and the alienated parent. The long term effects are serious for the child's mental health. A notable percentage of these children end up with substance abuse problems, paralyzing self esteem issues, and may even use suicide as a way to escape the years of unbearable pain. The alienated parent ends up in a lose-lose situation, suffering the heartbreaking destruction of the loving parent/child bond. This powerful show will bring knowledge and awareness to the topic of Parental Alienation, and it will offer those who are victimized by it tools for coping, healing, and prevention. Read Randi's RIVETING life story! FINE…LY: My Story of Hope, Love, and Destiny, a deeply penetrating story about HOPE against all odds that builds brick by brick from the bottom up, and then screams VICTORY from the roof-top.
inSocialWork - The Podcast Series of the University at Buffalo School of Social Work
In this episode, Dr. Lenore Walker discusses the current social, political, and legal dynamics that challenge a trauma-informed approach to the health and safety of children affected by domestic violence. Dr. Charles Ewing of the University at Buffalo Law School joins in the conversation.
Parental Alientation occurs when one parent manipulates children into believing that the other parent has rejected them and is otherwise no good and should be themselves rejected. Parental Alienation Syndrome is what happens to the children who are subject to this treatment. PAS only applies when there is evidence of parental manipulation and there is no other good reason why a child might reject a parent (e.g., becuase that parent was abusive, etc.). The syndrome was first identified in the 1980s as something that occurred in the context of divorce and custody battles. Dr. Baker suggests that while this classic sort of PAS does occur (e.g., when a narcissistic or otherwise troubled mother in the midst of a divorce turns her children against her former husband), there are also other variants to how PAS may occur. PAS may occur in the midst of an intact but troubled marriage, for instance, and PAS may also be something initiated by fathers against mothers, contrary to the normal stereotype.
