Esta formación grabó su álbum más comercial hasta la fecha, I Can See Your House From Here (1979). Anthony Fabian, the director of this summer's sleeper hit, Mrs Harris Goes to Paris, is a long-time Paul Gallico fan, and for this episode of Shelf Life he has chosen the author's beloved children's book, Jennie (known as The Abandoned in the U.S.), about a boy's metamorphosis into a cat, as one of his two favorite books. The other is Dancer, the mesmerizing 2003 novel by the Irish writer Colum McCann about the life of the legendary dancer Rudolf Nureyev.
In this episode of Sonitotum with Matthew Wayne Selznick, we examine the claim that if a writer isn't enjoying the act of writing, the reader will know it... and we declare shenanigans. Frank Norris is the first to have expressed the sentiment, "I don't like writing but I love having written." Responding the question of whether writing was a chore, Red Smith first said, "Why, no. Before him, Paul Gallico wrote, "It is only when you open your veins and bleed onto the page a little that you establish contact with your reader." Explore the origins of this quote. It tells the story of how a widowed cleaning lady in 1950s London, travels to France to purchase a Dior dress. We were lucky enough to get the chance to interview the key individuals involved in the making of this film, including Academy Award-nominee and lead actress Lesley Manville, co-star Lucas Bravo, the film's Academy Award-winning costume designer Jenny Beavan ("Cruella" & "Mad Max: Fury Road") and the director, writer and producer, Anthony Fabian. All three interviews are available to listen down below as we take you behind the scenes into the making of the film. We hope you enjoy these discussions and will check out the film soon. Thank you! A bit of mix and match on this episode of BEHIND THE LENS with filmmaker DANIEL J. COPLAN talking about 8 WINDS, plus our exclusive interview with director ANTHONY FABIAN talking about the delightful MRS. HARRIS GOES TO PARIS. First up is writer/director/producer/editor/actor DANIEL COPLAN who is on hand talking about his new film, 8 WINDS. Listen as Dan talks about his 5+ year journey in making 8 WINDS from idea to script and how to bring the page to life on screen. Covering everything, starting with the film being lo budget/no budget/micro-budget and how that dictated what Dan would and wouldn't be able to do with filming which impacted him starting at the script stage, to single camera shooting to using natural light and planning for such, to wireless mics and why scenes were limited to only two speaking characters in a scene, to casting, to pick-up shooting, to editing and more. A lot of helpful information for first-time or novice filmmakers as well as showcasing Dan's passion and sticktoitiveness for telling this story. And then we're talking about one of my favorite films of the year – MRS. HARRIS GOES TO PARIS – with my prerecorded exclusive interview with director/co-writer ANTHONY FABIAN. Nothing short of magical enchantment, this film is pure joy and a wonderful adaptation of Paul Gallico's 1958 novel which I have loved since first reading it in elementary school in the late 60s. Starring Lesley Manville, Jason Isaacs, Isabelle Huppert, Lambert Wilson, Alba Baptista, Lucas Bravo, and Ellen Thomas, the joy, beauty, and wonder of MRS. HARRIS GOES TO PARIS all come together under Anthony's direction. Listen as Anthony goes in-depth talking about the adaptation of Gallico's book with various themes and building strong character backstories, cinematography and camera lyricism, cinematic influences, the use of color, production design, Christian Dior, the brilliant and beautiful period costume design of Jenny Beavan Rael Lewis' whimsical score and musical contrasts, and more. http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com

Does Mister-not-Doctor Andrew MacDuhui (Paddy McG) hate pets? (He does not, no matter what his low-information neighbors in the fictional Scottish town of Inveronoch think.) Did Walt Disney hate cats? (Our very special guest Disney expert, Josh Spiegel, makes a compelling case.) Were animals harmed during the making of this motion picture? (Most certainly, regrettably.) Our principled stand against pandering to the Internet's insatiable appetite for cat content crumbles as we pad, paw, 'n' claw our merryish way through... Full Speed ahead, lads, for this week learning about our Third Ernest Borgnine episode, 1972's the Poseidon adventure. We are talking about Roddy McDowell's mixed up accent, so it is! As well as the largest underwater earthquake in history, grassing up Grandpa Joe for being a benefit cheat and why everyone in this hated thier fellow cast Members. --- The Poseidon Adventure is a 1972 American disaster film directed by Ronald Neame, produced by Irwin Allen, and based on Paul Gallico's 1969 novel of the same name. It has an ensemble cast including five Oscar winners: Gene Hackman, Ernest Borgnine, Jack Albertson, Shelley Winters and Red Buttons. The plot centers on the fictional SS Poseidon, an aging luxury liner on her final voyage from New York City to Athens before it is scrapped. On New Year's Eve, it is overturned by a tsunami. Passengers and crew are trapped inside, and a preacher attempts to lead a small group of survivors to safety. It is in the vein of other all-star disaster films of the early-mid 1970s such as Airport (1970), Earthquake (1974), and The Towering Inferno (1974). It was released in December 1972 and was the highest-grossing film of 1973, earning over $125 million worldwide. It won two Academy Awards,[3] a Golden Globe Award, a British Academy Film Award, and a Motion Picture Sound Editors Award.[4] A sequel, Beyond the Poseidon Adventure, also based on a novel by Gallico, was released in 1979.

The untold story behind the first great sports film... The Pride of the Yankees: Lou Gehrig, Gary Cooper, and the Making of a Classic On July 4, 1939, baseball great Lou Gehrig stood in Yankee Stadium and gave a speech that contained the phrase that would become legendary: "I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth." He died two years later and his fiery widow, Eleanor, wanted nothing more than to keep his memory alive. With her forceful will, she and the irascible producer Samuel Goldwyn quickly agreed to make a film based on Gehrig's life, "The Pride of the Yankees." Goldwyn didn't understand -- or care about -- baseball. For him this film was the emotional story of a quiet, modest hero who married a spirited woman who was the love of his life, and, after a storied career, gave a short speech that transformed his legacy. With the world at war and soldiers dying on foreign soil, it was the kind of movie America needed. Using original scripts, letters, memos, and other rare documents, Richard Sandomir tells the behind-the-scenes story of how a classic was born. The search to find the actor to play Gehrig; the stunning revelations Eleanor made to the scriptwriter Paul Gallico about her life with Lou; the intensive training Gary Cooper underwent to learn how to catch, throw, and hit a baseball for the first time. On a warm summer evening, Richard Sandomir led our intimate Clubhouse conversation and brought "The Pride of the Yankees" to life. Listen in...
