Mokuhanga can be a standalone medium or combined with other artistic practices, offering endless opportunities for experimentation and creative exploration. In this episode of The Unfinished Print: A Mokuhanga Podcast, I speak with printmaker Karen Kunc, who has worked with mokuhanga for many years. She integrates it into her broader printmaking practice, which includes book arts, mixed media, letterpress, Western woodblock, and more. We discuss her early encounters with mokuhanga, her travels to Japan, and her experience printing with Akira Kurosaki. Karen also shares how nature influences her work, the importance of taking creative risks, and her perspective on mokuhanga today. Plus, we talk about her own Constellation Studios and its role in her artistic journey. I like making the invisible, visible, and the unimaginable, real. The image on a canvas, or, an electric guitar for that matter, can make you feel something unexpected and revealing, something that is the beginning of a greater personal insight. Challenging the straight line and the concepts of what belongs with what excites me. I want to experience new color combinations to make me see beyond the prevailing reality. There's a balance between seriousness and humor that can imbue in a painting a kind of resilience and longevity, making it forever contemporary. When I paint and play my guitar, I strive to be in a state of exhilaration and communicate that feeling to my fans. - Joe SatrianiHe released his 19th studio album, The Elephants of Mars in April 2022.Satriani has appeared in motion pictures such as Christopher Guest's 2006 release, "For Your Consideration", and the 2011 Brad Pitt starrer, "Moneyball". The work of Cindy Press celebrates women by exploring the connection between fashion and personal identity. Inspired by magazines, photography, and popular culture Press considers how style reflects how we engage with the world around us. “Often times it's a gesture or pose I am interested in, it's there that I see the history of figure or portrait painting. Clothes are a personal decision and what we choose to wear is the way we express ourselves and connect with the world around us”.Born and raised in Philadelphia, Press is a graduate of Moore College Of Art And Design. Being a fashion illustration major at Moore prepared her for decades of success in the fashion design world. She went onto work with artists such as Peter Max, an iconic painter of the 60”s and 70's, interpreting his artwork into wearable art.By merging her knowledge of fashion, the human figure, her life as a woman, mother and artist Press's artwork forms a narrative that speaks to both men and women. Her female characters are inspired with an array of human emotion that goes beyond gender or age. She does not objectify the subjects of her paintings and drawings but instead seeks to capture their drama, confidence, sex appeal and charm. Press likes to emphasize the provocative, challenging the viewer to think even if it makes them uncomfortable. Her style is heavily influenced by contemporary fashion photography from the 60's to present time. While her signature is the way she transforms black and white oil paint on canvas Press likes to surprise with the occasional sprinkling of color added to the mix. Her process is evolving as she photographs her own subjects and merges them with parts of found images.Press'swork has been exhibited worldwide and is in private collections around the globe in major hubs such as New York, Los Angeles, Miami, London, Sydney, Dubai and Hong Kong. Some of her clients include Bloomingdales, The Four Season's Hotel, The Thompson Hotel Group and AIDA Cruise Line. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Originally from Wales, Choi has lived all over the world: Beijing, Hong Kong, Germany, London, and eventually New York, while, as a single mother, raising her daughter. Choi was an assistant to the visionary pop artist Peter Max, and throughout her life has explored a range of crafts including metalwork, woodwork, music, and silversmithing. She was a recipient of the Gold Award from the Prince of Wales Business Trust, and has worked as a background artist in film animation in Hong Kong. Welcome to the Martini Minute, this is what's new in the world of luxury: Thirty-six restored Corvettes from successive model years will be offered individually by Corvette Heroes. The collection belonged to Psychedelic pop artist Peter Max who purchased it from the winner of a VH1 sweepstake that was giving away the cars. But the Corvettes ended up scattered around New York City parking garages before Corvette Heroes stepped in and bought the entire collection.
Artist and brother from another mother @petermaxlawrence and I join forces for the most ambitious crossover event of all time. What's My Thesis and Time Waster Radio duke it out for podcasting supremacy, leaving piles of innocent bystander corpses in their wake, as they suss out the differences between leftists, Neoconservative and Neoliberals. Also I conflate Cuba and Costa Rica, but you can tell I mean Cuba because I reference sugar cane.

Ever dreamed of creating your own food product? Well listen up as Sweet Vegan's Founder, Andrea Young, shares with us how she did it. Sweet Vegan grew out of Andrea Young's love of creating healthy and delicious treats for people she cares about. Her journey began in her Indiana kitchen, learning to cook and bake from her maternal grandma, Georgia May. With 5 children in her family and her Mom working full time to make ends meet, Georgia May saw to it that they learned good cooking skills and shared a passion for food. This love of food never left Andrea's heart. Even as her career as a designer blossomed, Andrea became a vegan chef and attended The Natural Kitchen Cooking School. Teaching at Integral Yoga in NYC and working as the personal chef for the artist, Peter Max, reignited her passion to connect people through food. Making treats for others, Andrea received praises for her chocolates. In the art of chocolate-making there are endless possibilities to create new mouthwatering flavors. It’s an experience that transports people to their happy place and creates a sense of delight. It was through this sharing that Sweet Vegan was born. All of Sweet Vegan's chocolates are soy, nut, dairy, and gluten-free. They are dedicated to creating great tasting chocolates. Sweet Vegan eliminates everything that gets in the way of this experience, letting you indulge with total pleasure.

Baby pod. Names we didn't go with. Intros. Then we get into it: new age hustlers, sketchy art hippies and bande dessinee gurus. First: lysergic torroidal-lattice freako painter Alex Grey, then the neon hustler Peter Max. Then a deeper cut, a Frenchman called Appel-Guery. We only begin to peel back this creep's onion-layers, so it's a to-be-continued...

Tom takes a solo on his own pop image, and his stalking of pop artists Peter Max and Larry Rivers. Enjoy!
There is an old saying about popular culture, that if it’s popular, it can be good. This philosophy has at various times permeated music, film, literature, and especially the world of art. Sometimes it's no doubt true. But there are also profound exceptions. In the world of art, maybe the most unique exception is the work of Peter Max. Few artists can be considered more American than Max. His work, often referred to a pop or psychedelic art, has come be respected for its optimism, its boldness of color and celebration of the icons of success in all aspect of American life. A story that parallels Peter Max's own success storyPeter Max, now at the age of 76 is out with his own multimedia autobiography entitled The Universe of Peter Max.My conversation with Peter Max:
Vegcast 96 is totally devoted to the CD Healthy Food for Thought: Good Enough to Eat, which benefits the NY Coalition for Healthy School Food and has been nominated for a Grammy Award. At the end of January a CD release party was held at the studio of Peter Max, who did the album cover, and we have audio from there and from afterward, with the founder of a restaurant that supplied excellent vegan pizza at the event, with mastermind Amie Hamlin and with so called Vegan Pimp Sharon Nazarian, plus a cameo appearance by desserts diva Fran Costigan. We also play a couple tracks from the CD and have a Science Fact about the importance of good nutrition for young children.

CC sits down with artist Peter Max, Clint Black and Lisa Hartman Black. Peter was in town for an exhibition at TPAC. Many of you are familiar with Peter's work from album covers, planes, pianos, advertisements and his amazing vibrant color choices.
My husband Allan and I traveled to New York where we were invited to PETER MAX's office for a private reception. There we enjoyed seeing the inner sanctum of one of America's cultural legends. I was absolutely thrilled to see so many large pieces of his work. His collection of eclectic souvenirs included President Clinton's saxaphone, a full-sized fiberglass cow, a 6' tall soda pop bottle and the signed piano from 'Ringo Starr' all glowing in psychedelic colors painted by the man himself. The best part of this experience was being invited into PETER MAX's personal painting studio by Peter himself. He was warm and genuine as he welcomed me by shaking my hand and showing me where he creates his art. He showed me his painting easels, brushes, paints and the DJ booth he has set up in the corner of the room. TURNTABLES! lol - apparently he likes to paint accompanied by a musical muse and has someone come in and keep the tunes going for him while other members of the entourage jam on bongos and other percussion instruments.
