The definition of madness is doing the same thing and expecting a different result. If you want to make changes, you have to be willing to do things differently. Change is never easy. We can't make big changes all the time, we can't leap all the time, this would lead to distress for our nervous system - aka burnout and overwhelm. But at the right time, usually when the pain of staying where we are is greater than taking action, we are ready to leap. Eustress for the nervous system. A new challenge, a new way of doing things - this is when your reality shifts. In today's episode, I reflect on when I took a big leap and made a big investment in a mastermind two years ago, and share my present mid-leap moment, as I look to tackle peri-menopausal weight gain head-on - it's not easy, but then change never is, which is why I hired myself a coach. Here's my invitation to leap; the doors to my Mastermind are open. Early bird price ends 9th Jan, there are 4 places left, and January 2026 will be the only time in 2026 you can join this programme. In this week's episode I interview Em about her pregnancy during lockdown. She was induced at 41 weeks and laboured for a long time alone in the maternity ward before she was transferred to the birthing suite where she experienced the cascade of intervention and birthed her baby boy via vacuum delivery. Em was four months postpartum when she disclosed her sadness to her GP and was subsequently diagnosed with PND and PTSD. Three days later she walked into the Perinatal Mental Health Unit at Mitcham Private Hospital. It was a life changing experience for her and she shares her story in the hope that she can spread the word about the essential postpartum support resources that are available (even if they are notoriously difficult to find). In todays episode of The Pelvic Floor Connection, I'm joined by Aled Hughes — a father whose journey into parenthood was marked by postnatal depression, identity loss, and emotional shutdown. ***Please be aware we explore themes of depression and suicide. Please seek the support you need by contacting 111 or 999 if you have been affected by this episode. Please contact your GP or health care professional. Together, we explore the often silent mental health experiences of new fathers, and how trauma, sleep deprivation, cultural messaging, and internalised expectations shape men's ability to ask for help. This episode is for anyone navigating early parenthood, anyone supporting partners, and anyone who has ever felt overwhelmed, disconnected, or alone in their role.We talk about: - The early signs of male postnatal depression no one talks about - How trauma in the perinatal period impacts identity -The cultural “be strong, be fine” conditioning men carry - How shame blocks help-seeking -The impact of partner dynamics, sleep, fear, and emotional overload -How Aled found support — and what he wishes all partners knew -Healing, communication, and reconnecting with your own needsResources mentionedThe Colour Monster - Alana LLenasConnect with Aled:Instagram @sutmaedad_howsdad Facebook @how.sdad.sut.mae.dad If this episode moved you, helped you, or opened a conversation — please leave a review on Apple Podcasts. In many East Asian cultures, childbirth marks not just a beginning, but a sacred period of recovery known as Zuò Yuè Zi, or “sitting the month.” Rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine, this postnatal confinement practice emphasizes rest, warmth, and nourishment to restore balance and vitality after delivery, which is said to deplete the mother's qi, or vital life force. In the modern and busy world of working mothers with unpaid maternity leave, is it possible to incorporate facets of an ancient rejuvenating practice into the home?In this episode, we are joined by Dr. Kristal Lau, MBBS, MPH, BMedSc. Dr. Lau is a board-certified physician with over a decade of experience, the leading postpartum wellness consultant, author of 'Postpartum 30' (double winner at the NYC Big Book Award), and the founder of Bridges in Health and Mama's Wing Woman, a consulting company that creates wellness experiences for individuals and families and provides postpartum planning, coaching, and wellness programs to new parents and their families.Dr. Lau received her MBBS from the University of Queensland in Brisbane, MPH in Health Care Organization and Policy from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and General Medicine residency in Australia. Dr. Lau has then become an expert in postpartum practice, having served as an Advisor and the Co-Chair of the Women's Health Lifestyle Medicine Initiative at European Lifestyle Medicine Organization, Postnatal Retreat Development Consultant at Sanu, Family Resiliency Expert at the United States Army, and Director of Education at the Military Birth Resource Network & Postpartum Coalition. Dr Alessandra Demarte, principal chiropractor at Heart & Soul Chiropractic in Mandurah, talks with Dianne about pregnancy and postnatal chiropractic care. Dr Alla has a special interest and training in pregnancy and paediatrics, and explains how chiropractic care can support women throughout pregnancy as their body changes, with gentle techniques that are modified for each trimester. Gentle chiropractic adjustments can help to keep the spine and pelvic moving well, reduce stress on ligaments, and support the nervous system. Dr Alla explains about the nervous system, how nerve pathways influence the uterus and cervix during labour, and how working on the spine and pelvic balance may assist with birth preparation. Postnatally, as mums return to fitness, Dr Alla recommends getting support for any pelvic joint pain, or upper back tension, and rebuilding deep core and pelvic stability steadily. The Power Of The Long Game Are you willing to give it time? What if you trust the divine timeline? What if you stop comparing yourself to others who are running a completely different race than you? In today's episode, I share the impact of podcasting for over 3 years and Substacking for 18 months. I am making money from both these forms of content. It may not to large sums at the moment, but the power of the long game has shown me this - Persistent, consistent action in the direction of your dreams. I know these two new income streams will just keep growing. Because I am here for the long game, it's my superpower. And if you can hold the faith that it's coming, it can be your superpower, too. This mindset has also been really helpful as I begin my weight loss journey - another long game tactic. Send us a textThis week I am delighted to be joined by Robyn Jedkins and Lisa Heim, who are the founders of "TheRUBY Postnatal".TheRUBY Postnatal is a postpartum care facility in Houston and it's a concept I think is fascinating. We constantly say things like "It takes a village to raise a child" and "postpartum mom should really have time to look after herself and the baby and not worry about....." but, in today's fragmented world, that simply isn't as achievable as it should be.TheRUBY Postnatal is kind of like a blueprint for how things could work well for moms and babies. It's a completely holistic institution which essentially allows you to temporarily connect with a new "village". They have trained experts on hand to help with all the things moms might need a hand with, including medical professionals, as well as loads of other moms to sit with, support and get support from. The world is what it is, and though we might well want to..and I definitely do, we can't always smash the entire system up. TheRUBY Postnatal is something that offers a blueprint for postpartum care that could actually work for all involved, and I believe that if we had more facilities like this it would greatly benefit many women (And, yes, it should be paid for by your insurance company/Health service!!)You can check everything TheRUBY Postnatal related out online; The websiteInstagram As always; HPNB only has 5 billing cycles. So this means that you not only get 3 months FREE access, no obligation! (which is what most postnatal "programs" charge you £100 to buy) BUT, if you decide you want to do the rest of the program, after only 5 months of paying $10/£8 a month you now get FREE LIFE TIME ACCESS! That's $50 max spend, in case you were wondering.Though I'm not terribly active on Instagram and Facebook you can follow us there. I am however active on Threads so find me there! And, of course, you can always find us on our YouTube channel if you like your podcast in video form :) Visit healthypostnatalbody.com and get 3 months completely FREE access. No sales, no commitment, no BS. Email peter@healthypostnatalbody.com if you have any questions, comments or want to suggest a guest/topicPlaying us out this week "Blue" by Cira Grandi

Want to be a guest or know someone would be a great fit? I am looking for military vets, active duty, military brats, veteran service orgs or anyone in the fitness industryWhat if the hardest season of your life became the spark for your life's work? We sit down with first-time mom and first-time founder Jill Olish, who launched Mama Outspoken during the pandemic while confronting postpartum anxiety, depression, and rage. Instead of waiting for a better moment, she built a platform that helps mothers find their voice, ask for help, and navigate the messy, unspoken transitions of motherhood.Jill takes us inside the decisions that shaped her path: leaving a rigid job for virtual assistant work, turning lived experience into a podcast and a book, and building a supportive village focused on maternal mental health. We talk about the reality behind the nursery photos—emergency cesarean recovery, intrusive thoughts, sleepless nights, and the isolation of early parenthood—alongside the practices that made entrepreneurship possible with a newborn. Her simple, powerful system “sticky note time” shows how to dump the mental load, prioritize what matters, and create momentum without burning out.Across the conversation we unpack sustainable growth, boundaries that match school calendars, and why rest is a strategy for resilience. Jill's mantra you are the mom you were intended to be reframes perfectionism and offers a lifeline to anyone feeling behind. If you're on the fence about starting a business, craving real talk about postpartum mental health, or looking for practical ways to juggle work and family, this story will meet you where you are and help you take your next small step.If this conversation helped you, follow the show, share it with a friend who needs it, and leave a review to help more listeners find these stories.IG: @mamaoutspokenhrttps://www.mamaoutspoken.comSupport the show
Make Offer Make Money "Make offers, make money, make offers often, make money often". This is one of my favourite mantras. As a small-business owner, it's our job to be the head of sales, and it's our job to make offers to people, as sales are the lifeblood of any business. Not to mention that we want to work with people and help them! But why is it when I talk about sales, sales strategies, and making money, people get uncomfortable? What are you scared of? And yes, into the mix of this is our relationship with money – a topic for another day, or a different podcast! But actually, what we are scared of is the no, the rejection, and that feels personal, especially to us, empathetic, service-based business owners. But we don't need many yeses to have a profitable, sustainable business. The nos aren't personal, and when we find our tribe, we're glad we had the nos from those who weren't right for us. To find your tribe, guess what the process is – make offers often (and you will make money!) Why am I talking about this today? It's offer season, with Black Friday, Christmas and 2026 on the horizon. I am having an offer party and you are invited. I am sharing all my offers that I am making in November, what I do, who I sell it to and how many sales I make – eek! To mark OCD Awareness Week - something very close to my heart - I'm talking with actor Kimberley Nixon on today's episode. This isn't the “tidy house” stereotype. Compulsions people can't see.Kimberley shares her experience of peri- and postnatal OCD after her son was born - the fear, the shame, and what actually helps. For me, it was so refreshing to speak to someone who just gets it. Ok, so maybe today's title is a little bit of clickbait, but hear me out… Today's episode is so important, when you understand the numbers game, you get to play along and selling more becomes possible. The truth is, there is no secret art; conversion and open rates apply to us all. When we accept this, we take the following action, and this does result in more sales. Make offers aligned with our current audience size. Commit whole heartily to growing our audience, especially on our email list, because the only difference between you and someone who is making more sales is not the pretty Canva graphic or the messaging, it is the size of their audience versus yours. It is annoying when someone less experienced than you seems to be making sales more easily, but in truth, I'll put money on the only difference between you and them is that they have a bigger audience. Frustrating I know, but this is also exciting, because we all get to play this number game. When we commit to growing and nurturing our audience, we commit to selling more. That is the secret; there is no secret. No fast-track magic button, simply persistent, consistent action in the direction of our dreams. I bet you're smashing it conversion rate-wise, which should make you even more excited as your audience grows! I Really Underestimated Myself This is a podcast with two important messages: 1 – I bet like me you are comparing yourself to someone where the comparisons is complete unfair. And while you are stuck in compare and despair, you are under-valuing and under-estimating the skills, knowledge and experience you do have. 2 – We all should have some form of digital products, some form of scalable, semi-scalable offer, where we can help more people, stop trading all our time for money and experience the joy of making money in your sleep – whoop! After talking to a group of around 50 female entrepreneurs a few weeks ago I realised that I know my stuff when it comes to creating and selling online, digital products. I know how to create a mixed model business, where we get to have human interactions, in-persons offers and have scalable digital products. I know how to create multiple streams of income from your gifts! But if I am honest I never considered myself digital course creator, and sure I've helped many 1:1 and mastermind clients create income this way, in truth I've shied away from it because I'm not one of the big million-dollar course creator players! But I do make online course sales every month – why I am not talking about this more? Because of compare and despair! No more my friend, I am loud and proud saying I absolutely know how to help you make money from a digital offer. Eyes peeled for my October masterclass! In this week's show, Lian is joined by Sophie Messager. Sophie bridges worlds that rarely meet. A former reproductive physiologist with a PhD, she traded her microscope for holistic practices after experiencing the transformative power of an empowered birth. Her decade-long journey as a doula, birth educator, and author of Why Postnatal Recovery Matters deepened her exploration of the rhythms surrounding women's transitions. Now a holistic life transition mentor, Sophie guides women through significant life thresholds – from birth to perimenopause and beyond. Her unique combination of scientific expertise and spiritual insight allows her to serve as a compassionate space holder for those seeking to harmonise their analytical and intuitive selves. In this episode, Lian and Sophie explore the ancient and immediate power of the drum… how it once belonged to priestesses and women of the land, how it was silenced by culture and religion, and how it is now returning as medicine for body, mind, and birth. Together, they trace the threads of history and lived experience, revealing why rhythm has always been a companion in times of transformation. Sophie shares her journey from research scientist to doula, and the moment a single drumbeat opened a path that has carried her ever since. They speak of birth rooms where drumming restored sovereignty, of hospitals where rhythm returned power to a woman's body, and of the everyday rituals that root us in calm and clarity. They also explore what happens when women collectively reclaim the drum: the nervous system shifts, the mind quiets, and a deeper wisdom becomes audible. At its heart, this is a conversation about remembering… rhythm as medicine, voice as courage, and community as the ground of healing. We'd love to know what YOU think about this week's show. Let's carry on the conversation… please leave a comment wherever you are listening or in any of our other spaces to engage. What you'll learn from this episode: How women once held the drum as a sacred tool of fertility, labour, and trance… and what was lost when that rhythm was silenced Why a steady beat can shift brainwaves, calm anxiety, and even transform the experience of birth How reclaiming the drum today awakens both personal sovereignty and a wider cultural remembering Resources and stuff spoken about: Visit Sophie's website Buy Sophie's book: Why Postnatal Recovery Matters Sophie's online courses about perinatal & life transitions rituals: Drumming for birth Postnatal rebozo massage and closing ritual Rebozo techniques for an easier birth The art and science of postpartum wrapping How to run a Mother blessing How to prepare for a nurturing postpartum Join Sophie on social media: Instagram Facebook Linkedin Youtube Join UNIO, the Academy of the Soul. The Power Of A Low Cost Offer It's offer season, and like me, lots of service-based businesses and business coaches are tapping into the back-to-school post-summer vibes. Of course, we want to make it clear why people need us and our offer, but I've seen some claims that don't add up, and that certainly don't give the whole picture. I'm sure you've seen it: “I make £40K a month from a $27 offer” – great, that may be true, but they never share ad spend, audience size and conversion rates. “Why sell a £97 course when you can make £3k with one corporate client?”. True, this is a lot easier than selling 31 £97 courses, but nurturing relationships so corporate and 1:1 clients are ready to make higher value long-term commitments happens to no one overnight. The conversation missing is how a low-cost product/offer could work for you and your business. You can build an offer suite that gives people an opportunity to dip their toe in the water with a lower-cost paid offer. I have two £97 courses, I love running, I love the impact they have, and they are the main way I meet my future 1:1 and mastermind clients. There is power in a mini course. Yes, most of us won't be making 5 figures a month from lower-cost courses, but for many, including myself, they make a brilliant foundational offer. A mix model business is a strong business, built out that offer suite your way. Go high, go low and go everywhere in between. Join me here this September for only £97 - https://www.amyjonesmentor.com/ideas-to-action A two-parter this August on the true art of manifesting. Yes, the energy is everything, but you cannot feel good all the time – you're a human being. And I will level with you here, there are some things beyond our control, sometimes the worst happens and it's really not your fault. That said thoughts become things, what we focus on expands, so it's time to get quiet, tap into your inner guidance and pay attention to how you feel and what you think. This is one half of manifesting but thinking and feeling alone are not enough. You need to the action, the strategy – that's in part 2! Work with me further. This week Nicola and Di chat with the incredible Chelsea Pottenger. Chelsea is the founder of EQ minds, a high performance mindset and meditation coach, a sought-after keynote speaker, author of The Mindful High Performer, a former US College Division 1 basketballer with an MBA. Chelsea works with large brands globally, helping people reset, recharge and perform at their best. A proud mum, a devoted wife, a passionate mental health advocate and an ambassador for The Gidget Foundation, supporting new parents through perinatal anxiety and depression. In this episode we get to hear Chelsea’s story - from growing up in rural NSW with a strong work ethic, to being scouted by US colleges to play basketball at the highest level, to an injury which brought her home, and the love story that was happening in the background of all of this. Chelsea opens up about the painful struggle she went through, when after trying for 7 years to fall pregnant, she finally gave birth to her daughter Clara and then suffered severe postnatal depression, which led to her being admitted to a psychiatric hospital. She talks about how she got through that dark time and the incredible resources that are available for any parents who may be going through similar challenges. We also hear about the wonderful new career that came from Chelsea’s rock bottom. She went on to study mindfulness and psychology, founded EQ minds and now spends her time sharing helpful evidence-based tools to help people perform at their best and thrive. She has shared stages with some of the most incredible people as a sought-after speaker and we were so lucky to have her with us in the studio. This conversation really covers it all and we loved the way that through talking about Chelsea’s mental health challenges and the struggles she faced, there was also so much light and laughter in this interview. We hope you love it as much as we did. This episode is proudly supported by Montgomery Investment Management, trusted experts helping you build and protect your financial future. What can I say about today's guest? If you're working with postnatal women or female athletes, then Grainne Donnelly will be a familiar name to you. One of the busiest and most productive people in women's health - Grainne is a clinician, PhD researcher, educator, writer, editor of the POGP journal, business owner and mother of four!In today's chat, we discussed lots of different topics under the postnatal umbrella, from diastasis to sport & exercise to compression garments and the importance of functional and clinically relevant research, with a nod to evolutionary development of the pelvic floor! At Pelvicon last year, we got a glimpse into her PhD research looking at compression garments and the pelvic floor, so we get into the weeds with this today: compression garments - do they work? What should we consider when it comes to recommending them? Are they good for everyone?Grainne, along with Emma Brockwell & Tom Goom, completely changed the conversation with the Return to Running Guidelines in 2019; the 6R Framework on Returning to Sport Postnatally (BJSM 2021), her chapter on pelvic health in sports medicine, her 2025 paper on rugby & pelvic health - you can find all of her recent publications hereI'm a huge GD fan - it really is hard to think of someone who has done more to advance the evidence base for postnatal recovery from a physio perspective, so if you get the chance to learn from her - grab it!Grainne's online courses are available at absolute.physio and they are on sale for the summer - you can find her on instagram as @absolute.physio and she will be teaching a precon at Pelvicon about real time ultrasound in pelvic rehab and of course, the book she's editing on Pelvic Health in Sports Medicine will be out in April 2026Want to take a deeper dive into women's health, from the comfort of home, and at your own pace? In this deeply vulnerable episode, we uncover a reality that's almost never spoken about: postnatal depression in men. Our guest — a father of two — shares his raw and emotional story of what happened when his second son was born. With no relationship, no support, and a crushing sense of isolation, he began to unravel. From violent intrusive thoughts about his newborn, to being afraid of himself and bottling it all up, this episode dives into the darkest corners of men's mental health, fatherhood, and emotional survival. Eventually, therapy and the power of speaking up pulled him out — and today, he has a strong relationship with his son and a new outlook on life. If you're a dad, a partner, or know someone silently struggling — this episode could be life-changing. Keywords: postnatal depression in men, men's mental health, fatherhood and depression, intrusive thoughts new dads, emotional vulnerability in men, male therapy journey, breaking the stigma in men's health. What happens after the baby comes? For many mothers in the U.S., the answer is: not much support. In this episode, I sit down with pelvic floor physical therapist Annie Hopkins to talk about the quiet crisis happening in postpartum care—and why so many moms are left to navigate healing, identity shifts, and physical recovery on their own. We unpack the gaps in our medical system, the lack of federal paid leave, and why postpartum care often stops at six weeks (if it even starts). Annie brings both professional insight and deep compassion to this conversation, shedding light on what true care could and should look like for new mothers. Whether you're a mom, planning to become one, or just someone who cares about how we treat women, this episode is for you.
