Geht da noch was? Was unterscheidet Aspriva von klassischen Marken? Warum setzen sie auf Sachets statt Kapseln? Und wie entstehen Produkte, die man mit gutem Gewissen täglich einnimmt? Are you navigating perimenopause or menopause while also managing chronic health conditions? Or perhaps perimenopause has triggered an underlying, previously dormant issue? Traditional healthcare may not be enough to combat the symptoms, but do not fear! Today's guest is here to teach us how your nervous system, immune system, and hormones can all work together to support healing and longevity. This week, host Jenn Trepeck is joined by Dr. Jessica Drummond, Founder and CEO of The Integrative Women's Health Institute. Together, they explore how seemingly “silent” chronic conditions like endometriosis, pelvic pain, autoimmune disorders or even long covid, can complicate menopause—and what you can do about it. Dr. Drummond shares her insights on calming the nervous system, building metabolic health through nutrient-dense habits, and using tools like heart rate variability (HRV) to guide recovery. The Salad With a Side of Fries podcast is hosted by Jenn Trepeck, who discusses wellness and weight loss for real life, clearing up the myths, misinformation, bad science & marketing surrounding our nutrition knowledge and the food industry. Let's dive into wellness and weight loss for real life, including drinking, eating out, and skipping the grocery store. IN THIS EPISODE: (00:00) The impact of menopause on silent chronic conditions(05:44) Dr. Jessica Drummond reflects on her professional journey in the chronic condition space(11:11) Common underlying chronic conditions affecting menopause(16:08) Discussion of the silent underlying conditions that can manifest later in life(25:43) Calming the nervous system to heal in a consistent way(30:50) The importance of your metabolic health in the form of nutrient-dense food, strength training, walking, hydration and circadian rhythm(32:09) Discussion of heart rate variability, recovery, and developing the art of sitting quietly(41:36) The importance of working with a health coach to plan for the future of your healthKEY TAKEAWAYS:Menopause and perimenopause symptoms can be overwhelming on their own. Still, when layered on top of chronic conditions like endometriosis, pelvic pain, autoimmune disorders, or post-viral syndromes (e.g., long COVID), it creates a compounded health challenge. Traditional training often overlooks the role of nutrition, nervous system regulation, and lifestyle in healing. Chronic conditions—especially during perimenopause—require a personalized, holistic strategy.Healing during menopause doesn't require drastic changes—small, consistent steps matter most. Start where it feels easiest, like mindfulness, nutrition, or gentle movement. Recovery and nervous system regulation are just as important as action. Tools like heart rate variability (HRV) can help track progress, showing that true resilience comes from balancing effort with rest.Integrating the nervous, immune, and hormone systems is the key to living a longer, more active, healthier life. When these systems are balanced and working together, they support overall well-being and longevity.QUOTES: (10:04) “In my traditional physical therapy training, nutrition was not emphasized as a healing tool. It was more like you needed adequate nutrients to perform certain physical activities, but we didn't think about it from an anti-inflammatory standpoint.” - Dr. Jessica Drummond(13:59) “Research shows us that acute illnesses like infections trigger chronic diseases.” - Dr. Jessica Drummond(22:36) “It's exposing these underlying things that have been lying dormant, that we just brushed aside or pushed through because they weren't really standing in the way of us doing the things that we wanted to do.” - Jenn Trepeck(40:19) “I think we make these plans expecting perfection, planning for this optimal, ideal day that never happens. So put these things in place so they happen even on the days where we don't feel a hundred percent, even on the days where nothing goes as planned.” - Jenn TrepeckRESOURCES:Become A Member of Salad with a Side of FriesJenn's Free Menu PlanA Salad With a Side of FriesA Salad With A Side Of Fries MerchA Salad With a Side of Fries InstagramUse Your Heart Rate Monitor to Improve Your Health GUEST RESOURCES:The Integrative Women's Health InstituteIntegrative Women's Health - Podcast Integrative Women's Health - PubMedInnovative Approaches to Chronic Pain with The Anodunos Method TeamGUEST BIOGRAPHY:Dr. Jessica Drummond, DCN, CNS, PT, NBC-HWC, is a leading expert in women's health and the Founder and CEO of The Integrative Women's Health Institute. Was moderne Technik und Ayurveda gemeinsam erkennen. BUFFALO, NY- January 8, 2025 – A new #research perspective was #published in Aging (listed by MEDLINE/PubMed as "Aging (Albany NY)" and "Aging-US" by Web of Science) Volume 16, Issue 22 on December 18, 2024, entitled “Brown adipose tissue enhances exercise performance and healthful longevity.” Researchers from Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, Dorothy E. Vatner, Jie Zhang, and Stephen F. Vatner, evaluated the role of brown adipose tissue (BAT), a special type of fat that burns calories to generate heat, in improving exercise endurance and supporting healthy aging. Unlike regular white fat, which stores energy, brown fat helps the body stay warm and boosts metabolism. According to the authors, this process may also help protect against health conditions such as obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. This research perspective highlights key findings from multiple studies on BAT. While most studies have shown that exercise regulates BAT activation and increases BAT density, relatively few have demonstrated that BAT itself can directly increase exercise performance. One notable example involves RGS14 knockout mice, a genetically modified group known for their longer lifespan. When BAT from these mice was transplanted into regular mice, the recipients displayed improved running endurance just three days after the transplant. In contrast, brown fat from non-modified mice took much longer to produce similar improvements. These findings highlight the unique properties of BAT in enhancing physical performance. The researchers emphasized also that BAT improves blood circulation and reduces cellular stress, which may help combat age-related muscle loss, fatigue, and metabolic decline. The authors suggest that treatments designed to mimic the benefits of brown fat could lead to innovative approaches for improving energy levels, maintaining a healthy weight, and supporting heart health. “In view of the ability of BAT to mediate healthful longevity and enhance exercise performance, it is likely that a pharmaceutical analog of BAT will become a novel therapeutic modality.” In conclusion, continued research on this topic may lead to the development of promising new therapies that help older adults live more active lives while reducing the risk of chronic age-related conditions. When we hear the word longevity, it's not just about living longer—it's about thriving through the years with good health. Adopting healthy habits can make a difference in our day-to-day life. What are the things we can do to promote healthy longevity? In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Cory Goldberg, a distinguished plastic and craniofacial surgeon with a vision for longevity medicine and aesthetic surgery. He discusses how to promote healthy longevity, emphasizing diet, exercise, sleep, and emotional health. He highlights the impact of poor diet and processed food on health and life expectancy. Listen now to explore strategies for a healthier, longer life! --- Listen to the podcast here: Unlocking the Secrets of Healthy Longevity with Dr. Cory Goldberg Welcome to Action's Antidotes, your antidote to the mindset that keeps you settling for less. Today, I want to talk to you about longevity. Now, we've covered this a little bit in some of our podcast episodes that have covered health, fitness, wellness, but we've never really talked about longevity specifically. My guest today, Dr Cory Goldberg, is at the forefront and using some innovative techniques to promote longevity and some innovative ideas for the future of this entire subject as well as healthcare in general. --- Dr. Cory Goldberg, welcome to the program. Hi, Stephen. It's a pleasure. Thank you so much for your time. Looking forward to our conversation Where we began here. So you have some innovative ideas about longevity. I know, traditionally, people just talk about stuff like getting regular exercise, eating well, and even we've recently talked about some other kind of psychological things people can do, like controlling their thoughts, minimizing stress, and being around the right people and spending good time and good company. Is that part of your program or do you go right to some of these more innovative, less currently mainstream techniques? Well, honestly, what you just hit on are two of the most important pillars of healthy longevity and good diet and exercise are keystone. I mean, you can't have healthy longevity without that. There's no quick fix that gets you around those basics. And I would add to that, good healthy sleep and a good emotional state and interpersonal relations so you commented on your episode on thought control and those kinds of things, being present and controlling your thoughts and your emotions and relations with other people really key for healthy longevity. So, no matter what else we add to that now, those four pillars are by far the most important things that anybody can do to make sure that they're as healthy as possible for as long as possible. And so if you think about the average person, either the average person you encounter or the average person kind of in society today, what do you think is the number one worst thing people are doing for the health on a regular basis? I have to say it's diet. People follow the diet that their parents taught them, the idea of four main food groups. They follow eating habits that are based mostly on addiction to the foods that we were exposed to on a regular basis in our society. People are eating poison, they don't even know it, and I think that's the biggest contributor to poor health. And the reason that in the United States, the past few years, the average life expectancy has actually gone down by a couple years for the first time in over a century and a half and that's with corrections around the pandemic and COVID. Even with that, the life expectancy is going down and I would say diet is the number one contributing factors to that.Share on X And so what is the biggest mistake people are making in their diet? You talk about the foods that you become addicted to, the foods that you're trained to eat. What can someone do right now to get out of that? Well, as with any addiction,

Why's it so hard to be healthy? Why does everyone recommend a Mediterranean diet? Is diet or exercise more important? Is intermittent fasting actually useful? When the entire world's collective knowledge is at your fingertips, why's it still so difficult to answer the kinds of questions we've been asking for millennia? Nutrition and longevity expert Luigi Fontana says it's because nutrition isn't as simple as we'd like to think. Food is complex; it's deeply tied to our emotions, our health and our sense of culture and community. How you eat is also influenced by a wider food system, one that profits most from the kinds of ultra-processed food Luigi recommends minimising. So, what should you eat? Luigi shares the results of his groundbreaking experiment, in which he's investigating what a more proactive and holistic healthcare system could look like. He teaches you the core principles he teaches the subjects of that experiment, and introduces you to Marzio Lanzini, the Charles Perkins Centre's chef-in-residence. If you want to dive deeper into Luigi and Marzio's work, visit the CPC RPA Health for Life Program's website. Longevity has become a cultural phenomenon…and that should be making functional CPG entrepreneurs salivate more than all those customers providing samples for DNA test kits. Did you know that more than half of Americans say it's their goal to live to 100? But becoming a centenarian wasn't always a goal sought by most Americans…partly because of what I've dubbed the “Mrs. Fletcher Effect.” You might be too young to remember these famous early-90s "I've fallen and I can't get up" TV commercials, but the frailty of Mrs. Fletcher certainly didn't help public perception of aging populations. Alternatively, when you see “Mrs. Fletcher” typecast in today's connected TV digital ads…she would be shown playing chess, running a marathon, starting a new business, or traveling extensively with family. But it's that simple (but massive) paradigm shift, around the image of growing older, which created many second-order effects. Because even if almost everyone accepts that “Father Time” will remain undefeated, more people are realizing they can have some control over the pace and trajectory of functional decline. This behavioral change arguably gained importance in the last decade, as more individuals began viewing themselves as consumers in the healthcare market compared to solely being patients. Because of that, consumer healthcare has begun evolving from a reactive, one-size-fits-all approach to a distinctively proactive, personalized, and integrative approach. But as you'd imagine…that marketplace evolution has created immense opportunities, with American consumers spending billions annually seeking to improve their “health span,” a popular term defined the period of your life that's spent healthy, rather than simply how long you will physically be alive. A key aspect of this massive opportunity centers around the fact that Millennials and Baby Boomers have increasingly mirrored one another in adopting healthy lifestyle habits. And while it doesn't happen often, duality can be an extremely powerful force when considering the potential impact of a CPG industry trend. But with consumers of all ages (not just the older ones) looking for ways to extend the number of years they spend free from chronic disease…as well as the physical, cognitive, and emotional decline that can accompany aging, its certainly great news for CPG brands positioned within the emerging and intersecting categories of functional foods, functional beverages, and dietary supplements. And to help entrepreneurs in that pursuit of discovering attractive commercial opportunities, my latest first principles thinking content will cover the top need states (and key functional ingredient trends) within longevity and healthy aging, which includes cognitive health, mobility, muscle health (and strength), cellular health, and better appearance. Finally, I'll quickly run through an often-overlooked consumer insight and marketing strategy that's key to unlocking the booming business of longevity. A new study out of the U.K. indicates pandemic restrictions also had a deleterious impact on the minds of the elderly. Dr. Anne Corbett of the University of Exeter Medical School and her team examined neuropsychology data from 3,142 individuals, all 50 years of age or over, who had been participating in a multi-decade dementia study in Britain. The researchers compared data on this cohort collected before the pandemic, early in the pandemic, then once more toward the tail end of the pandemic. The researchers observed "[s]ignificant worsening of executive function and working memory" in the first year of the pandemic across the whole cohort, the average age of which was 67.5. Working memory continued to worsen across the whole cohort in the second year of the pandemic. By the time restrictions had ultimately been eased, the damage had been done. According to the study, cognitive decline was significantly associated with reduced exercise and increased drinking across the whole cohort. Depression, another driving factor of cognitive decline, was notable amongst those who contracted COVID-19. Loneliness proved especially detrimental to those with mild cognitive impairment. "People aged 50 years and older in the UK had accelerated decline in executive function and working memory during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic, during which the UK was subjected to three societal lockdowns for a total period of 6 months," said the study, published in the Lancet journal Healthy Longevity. The British government, which funded this study via the National Institute for Health and Care Research, not only limited the number of times citizens could exercise outside during the pandemic, but shuttered gyms, golf courses, sports courts, swimming pools, and indoor sports facilities. "The scale of change is also of note, with all groups—the whole cohort and the individual subgroups—showing more than a 50% greater decline in working memory and executive function and many effect sizes reaching a clinically significant threshold of greater than 0·3," said the researchers. The researchers further stressed that "[t]hese factors map closely to the population-wide changes in health and lifestyle seen during and after the lockdowns, raising the important question of the effect of the pandemic on cognitive health and risk across populations." https://www.foxnews.com/politics/appeals-court-reinstates-gag-order-trump-fraud-case Appeals court reinstates gag order in Trump fraud case A New York appeals court reinstated a gag order preventing former President Donald Trump from maligning court staffers on Thursday. New York Judge Arthur Engoron had initially issued the gag order in early October after Trump lashed out at one of his law clerks on social media. Trump is currently fighting accusations of business fraud leveled by New York Attorney General Letitia James. Appeals court Judge David Friedman had issued a stay on Engoron's gag order on Nov. 16, saying it potentially infringed on Trump's First Amendment rights. By that time, Engoron had already fined Trump $5,000 for violating the order on social media on Oct. 20, and did so again on Oct. 25 for another $10,000 before threatening imprisonment if further violations were committed. Trump took the stand to testify personally in early November. He repeatedly cast James’ yearslong investigation and lawsuit as a "disgrace" and an attack on his business and his family. Trump has denied any wrongdoing and insists his assets were actually undervalued. Trump has repeatedly said his financial statements had disclaimers requesting that the numbers be evaluated by the banks. Engoron ruled in September that both Trump and his company had committed fraud by deceiving banks, insurers and others by overvaluing his assets and exaggerating his net worth on paperwork used in making deals and securing financing. Trump has attacked Engoron and James — both Democrats — as politically biased "operatives." "They are defending the Worst and Least Respected Attorney General in the United States, Letitia James, who is a Worldwide disgrace, as is her illegal Witch Hunt against me. The Radical and Unprecedented actions of Judge Engoron will keep BUSINESSES and JOBS forever out of New York State," Trump wrote in a recent social media post. https://www.justfactsdaily.com/1-in-every-39-americans-will-die-of-a-drug-overdose-at-current-rate 1 in Every 39 Americans Will Die of a Drug Overdose at Current Rate Despite the passage of state and federal laws that were supposed to reduce fatal drug overdoses, the annual U.S. drug overdose death rate has quintupled over recent decades: Over the most current year of available data, more than 110,000 people in the U.S. died of drug overdoses, a rate of 33 per 100,000 population. In order to measure these deaths in clear, relevant terms, Just Facts enlisted the expertise of a licensed actuary and a Ph.D. mathematician to calculate, double-check, and triple-check the average lifetime odds of dying of a drug overdose. The shocking result of these calculations is that 1 in 39 people will have their lives cut short by drug overdoses if the rate of such deaths stays at the current level. Those odds will become far worse if the rising trend continues. The lifetime risks of tragic events are much more revealing than the raw numbers or annual rates commonly reported by government agencies and the media. This is partly because the U.S. is the third-most populous nation in the world, so tens, hundreds, or even thousands of events may amount to a very low risk. The other reason, which is less obvious, is explained by a 1987 Department of Justice report on the likelihood of being a crime victim: Annual victimization rates alone do not convey the full impact of crime as it affects people. No one would express his or her concern by saying, “I am terribly afraid of being mugged between January and December of this year.” People are worried about the possibility that at some time in their lives they will be robbed or raped or assaulted, or their houses will be burglarized. Each month, the CDC estimates drug overdose deaths based on data reported by the 50 states and the District of Columbia. The latest estimates, which include deaths up through June 2023, show that 111,877 people died of a drug overdose in the prior 12 months. To place such figures into the broader context of the U.S. population and people’s lifespans, Just Facts asked a licensed actuary to develop a method for calculating the average lifetime risk of death from various causes. The actuary used two separate methods, both of which yielded the same results. To further ensure accuracy, Just Facts had a Ph.D. mathematician check the formulas. Applying this methodology to the CDC’s latest estimates of overdose deaths, roughly 1 in every 39 people will die of drug overdose if the rate of such deaths stays at its current level. Beyond lifetime risk, another important measure of a mortal danger is the years of life that it robs from its victims. Because humans cannot prevent death but only delay it, there is a material difference between the tragic premature deaths of a 20-year-old in the prime of her life and a 90-year-old in poor health. Although some leading medical scholars ignored that vital fact during the Covid-19 pandemic, a 1983 CDC report about fatal accidents explains that the “the allocation of health resources must consider not only the number of deaths by cause but also by age.” The average age of people who die of drug overdoses is about 43 years, while the average U.S. lifespan is about 77 years. In contrast, the average age of people whose deaths involved Covid-19 is about 75 years. Yet, government officials locked down entire states for extended periods to prevent the spread of Covid, causing multitudes of collateral deaths. This likely included overdoses, which soared in the wake of these measures. https://www.foxnews.com/sports/jets-aaron-rodgers-takes-big-step-hopeful-return-achilles-injury Jets' Aaron Rodgers takes big step in hopeful return from Achilles injury The New York Jets opened the 21-day practice window for Aaron Rodgers on Wednesday, sparking hope the quarterback could return this season just mere months after tearing his Achilles. Jets head coach Robert Saleh told reporters that it doesn’t necessarily mean Rodgers is going to come back and play, but is rather a "progression in his rehab." "For Aaron, what he would be doing in practice is no different than what he’d be doing on the field with regard to certain drills in the individual – instead of throwing with staff members, he’s throwing with teammates," Saleh told reporters. "There’s no added risk to it. There’s certain things he’s been cleared for that we’re going to allow him to do." Saleh lauded Rodgers’ drive and motivation for pushing himself to get back to where he is and the want and need for him to be with his teammates. "He’s sacrificed so much already for the organization and himself and his teammates and he’s doing it again. I think it’s a testament to who he is as a human," Saleh added. Rodgers’ timeline is still really unclear. He tried to lay it out the best he could in his appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show" this week. "Once I'm healthy, then it's where we're at, are we alive, are we in it… It's health first, and are we alive for the playoffs second.". New York is 4-7 entering Week 13 and their playoff hopes are dwindling.

"For Aaron, what he would be doing in practice is no different than what he’d be doing on the field with regard to certain drills in the individual – instead of throwing with staff members, he’s throwing with teammates," Saleh told reporters.
