“I like to think of life as a trilogy,” says keynote speaker and entrepreneur Keith Roberts. Along with mentor Ryan Avery, Keith set a Guinness World Record for the longest public speaking marathon by a team of two, promoting their co-authored historical novel, “The Eternal Flame: Ancient Wisdom for Today's Modern Leader.”   Keith joins The Conscious Entrepreneur podcast to share insights from his 30-year practice in Buddhism, founding and selling his company Zenman, and participating in the global nonprofit Entrepreneurs' Organization (EO) and MIT's Entrepreneur Masters Program. He discusses the power of gratitude in creating your ideal life, building effective habits, and the importance of writing down your goals to achieve them faster.   Keith co-created the OAK journal, a 90-day journaling framework with prompts, visualization techniques, and mantras to help keep you on track. He shares his experience of letting go of his first company and the dangers of linking your identity to your business. Learn about the “sunk equity fallacy” and why practicing gratitude is more than just compiling a checklist.   Join Keith and host Alex Raymond as they discuss thought leaders like Joe Dispenza and Ryan Holiday, and explore what's next in Keith's journey.   Quotes “I had this epiphany that I was trading my time for money and it was a really bad deal.” (11:55 | Keith Roberts) “Writing things down, doubles the probability of accomplishing them.” (12:29 | Keith Roberts) “Aligning the frequency in what you're putting out in the world—what vibrations, what you're attracting, what you're manifesting, that abundance vs scarcity mindset—you're doing that every single day by your gratitude and then journaling positive thoughts. Like you mentioned, every day has a prompt, and it's not ‘What's frustrating you today?' Every single one of them is intentionally positive to help you have that right mindset and vibrating at the frequency that's going to attract your best life.” (15:41 | Keith Roberts)  “If you repeat something you're grateful for, you're getting diminishing returns. The more specific you can be with your gratitude, the better the ROI is going to get as far as the neurotransmitters.” (17:39 | Keith Roberts) “I'd built it to the point where it became my identity, and when I was trying to come up with my personal ‘why?' I kept framing it through the lens of this agency that had become my identity. And my ‘why' is not selling more Frontier Airlines tickets or houses for RE/MAX or Bijou—which is this Chinese moonshine, the biggest-selling liquor in the world, we did a site for them so—it didn't have anything to with what I had built and I had to get over this concept of ‘sunk equity.'”(35:10 | Keith Roberts)   Links Connect with Keith Roberts: Website: https://keithrobertsiii.com/ OAK Journal: https://oakjournal.com/   Connect with Alex Raymond: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/afraymond/ Website: https://consciousentrepreneur.us/ HiveCast.fm is a proud sponsor of The Conscious Entrepreneur Podcast. This is your time to shine, we want you at The Next Big Thing! When he came across the video of someone trying to win The World Championship of Public Speaking, he thought “Isn't public speaking the hardest thing for some people to do, and aren't most people more afraid of public speaking than anything else? What if I enter this contest? What if I have never given a speech in my life but win this contest? What if I win the world championship THIS year?” Eight months later, Ryan became the youngest World Champion of Public Speaking in history competing against 30,000 people from 116 countries to win the World Championship of Public Speaking. It was the hardest thing Ryan had ever done…  at the time! Ryan is still the youngest winner in history, but after becoming the World Champion, he wanted to see if he could apply the same principles and strategies he learned winning the contest to other things in his life. Using the same strategies, Ryan has broken numerous world records, has written two best-selling books and works with companies all over the world showing them the strategies he used to go from A speaker to THE speaker in less than 8 months. Today's Insights Include:   Communication changes that are worth keeping The pandemic forced change on all of us, and some changes have been for the better Communication itself doesn't change, but methods of communication do change Maintaining the hybrid model of communication benefits all aspects of our lives In-person events are irreplaceable and need to come back again Meetings need to be minimized wherever possible Effective email strategies will change the way that you communicate for the better   Communication wins in today's leadership Employee appreciation is critical and increasing in many companies Training budgets are increasing and offer aid in employees personal and professional lives The hybrid work model has required a positive, customized change in communication and will continue to be offered at many forward-thinking companies   Warning signs regarding communication Too many meetings is a sure indicator of a breakdown in effective communication Overly strategic appreciation loses the personal and human element of interactions Failure to acknowledge the truly personal level of interaction that we are having with others, especially in the virtual environment Empathy is an essential skill that takes leaders to the next level   The element of luck in communication Reliable luck requires actions, relationships, and proximity to what it is that you want Increased luck will come when you are willing to do more Luck does not mean chance — it requires action for what you want to see happen   Moving beyond the fatigue of 2020 Fulfillment in work needs to be an essential part of the rebound from the pandemic Ask yourself if you are feeling jealous or inspired? Disappointed or grateful? Stop being overly passionate — convert your passion to being purpose-driven in the work that you are doing. Harness your creativity, whatever that means in your work and in your life   This podcast is powered by FCCS. Episode 56. From Nothing to Notable with Ryan Avery How do you use stories to stop being "a" leader and become "the" leader? What's the problem with motivational speakers? And why should you NOT step out of your comfort zone? Welcome to The Storypowers Podcast, the show about the power of stories, the people who tell them and why you should be doing it too. I'm your host, keynote speaker and storytelling coach, Francisco Mahfuz. My guest today is Ryan Avery. Ryan is one of the nicest people you could ever meet, but he's been making me feel guilty for a decade. In 2012, I joined Toastmasters, and after I delivered a handful of speeches that got raving feedback, I honestly thought I was a rising star in the public speaking world. And then Ryan, at age 25, became the youngest World Champion of Public Speaking in history, only 8 MONTHS after he joined. Thanks for that, Ryan. Since that day, Ryan has delivered more than 500+ keynotes in 33 countries around the globe, on his mission to show leaders how to Go From A to THE® in their industry. You can find him at ryanavery.com. If you like the show, please leave us a rating on Apple podcasts, share it and SUBSCRIBE! The support is very much appreciated. And please send me your comments on what you'd like to hear on future episodes. You can connect with me on LinkedIn, where I post regularly, and on storypowers.com. He's an expert on communication skills and shows leader and their teams how to accelerate their achievement, maximize their potential, and, as his trademark teaching states, go from A to THE in their industry.  In this episode, Ryan talks with Jon about making your perfect day a reality, how communication will never change, and the trends he sees in THE leaders of today. Ryan became the youngest World Champion of Public Speaking in history at just 25 years old. Soon afterward he quit his job with the Special Olympics, moved back in with his parents (with his wife, Chelsea), and pursued his dream of public speaking for a living. Now Ryan Avery is one of the Millenial generation's most profound speakers on strategic communication, negotiation, and leadership. Avery is also an Emmy-winning journalist, two-time best-selling author, and world record holder.  ryanavery.com Speaker. Leader. Jim Rohn taught me, “You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.” I wanted to put Jim’s theory to the test but I needed help, a lot of help! With the support of my wife as my coach, my friends, family and mentors as my guides, I decided to do something I had never done before. It is 8am. I have trained 8 months for this; competing against more than 30,000 people from 116 countries. I am speaker number 8 during the final round of competition on the 88th anniversary of Toastmasters, out of 88 districts around the world and the date is August 18th (8/18). After the final speaker, we sit with the other 2,000 people in the audience and wait 30 minutes to hear the announcement. My heart is pounding, my palms are sweaty and then I hear it…. “The 2012 World Champion of Public Speaking is… Ryan Avery!” I guess you can now say my new lucky number is…8. The next morning, I woke up to 269 emails asking me to speak, coach and train leaders all over the world on how to improve their communication abilities. My wife, friends, family and mentors, showed me things are possible when you surround yourself with the right people and they push you past your limits of what you think you were able to accomplish. I wanted to travel the world and start right away but I was still working at Special Olympics and didn’t want to quit as I loved what I did for a living. However, I started to see that there is a huge opportunity in this world for people wanting training and we can always be growing, learning and developing our leadership skills. So after long months of talking, thinking, contemplating and debating, my wife and I decided to take the risk and start our own public speaking business in 2013. We quit our jobs, sold everything we owned except what fit in our car, traveled to Texas to move back in with my parents at 26 years old (true Millennials) and start our company out of a corner in their home. Six months later we got on our feet, moved out and now live in Denver, CO (when you want the hour version of this story, let me know and we can grab a drink). My wife and in Antarctica I right before we set the new world record of being the youngest couple to professionally speak on all seven continents. Me and my wife in Antarctica right before we set the new World Record for being the youngest couple to professionally speak on all seven continents in 2015. This has been an incredible adventure. I still have a lot to learn. Every day I study, search and submerse myself in the art of communication. One of the biggest things I have learned in the past three years doing this full time is this: When you improve your communication abilities, you increase your leadership capabilities! Now I am on a mission to train leaders how we can utilize the power of storytelling to get others to take action. I believe we all have the opportunity to do something in our life that can bring us joy and help others excel. During one of my failed attempts at a recent world record my friends taught me what it means to really feel accomplished and what it means to be the leader: when your actions inspire others to take action, you are the leader. I am taking charge or my life. I am taking chances. I am taking action. Together, if you will let me, I want to share my journey with you, share strategies and stories with you, via my trainings or blog, of what I am learning and have learned along the way to help us accelerate our achievements. I believe our communication abilities determine our leadership capabilities so I am on a mission to train leaders around the world in the art of communication! If you are interested in one of my trainings, I look forward to hearing from you. If you are interested in reading my articles or watching my videos I look ... Learn more about your ad choices. Todays guest is a man who at the age of 25 took on the world at public speaking and came out top. Yes, he beat 30,000 people to claim the title of the youngest World Champion of Public Speaking in history. Contestants came from 116 countries and didn't stand chance as they were up against our guy. They should have seen him and not bothered to even unpack their suitcases. But what made his speech so powerful? What made it a world beater? Well for one he was true to himself, and also spoke about a subject that resonates with the whole world. He took his grandmother's advice and created a speech which illustrated that life is limited and why we must push past our fears. Wow he should have called it Join Up Dots But coming from Humble, Texas a suburb of Houston it was not predestined that he was going to be a world beater. As he says "I have always felt confident speaking in front of large groups but what I struggle with is making sure I am connecting, engaging and leaving them with something that will make their life better. I don't just want to speak. I want to connect and leave them with something of value. There are thousands of speakers but very few resonate and connect." So lets see how we can all improve our skills at connecting, as we start joining up dots with the one and only Ryan Avery.
