Regulations and Content Guidelines: a. Broadcast Regulations: FCC The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) oversees and regulates broadcast television and radio in the United States. Rules govern areas such as indecency and profanity, advertising practices, political advertising, and equal time provisions. Broadcasters must comply with content guidelines, including restrictions on obscene, indecent, or profane material during certain hours. b. Content Ratings: Content rating systems, such as TV Parental Guidelines and the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) rating system, provide guidance on the suitability of media content for different age groups. Ratings help inform viewers and parents about potentially objectionable content, enabling informed decisions. Censorship, Obscenity, and Free Speech Concerns: a. Obscenity and Indecency Standards: Legal definitions and standards for obscenity and indecency can vary across jurisdictions, impacting the permissible content in media and artistic works. Regulations aim to strike a balance between protecting public decency and upholding free speech rights. b. Artistic Expression and Free Speech: The entertainment industry often navigates the tensions between artistic expression and societal norms or government censorship. Legal protections for free speech and artistic freedom can vary across countries and cultures, influencing the creative process and content distribution. Compliance with Labor Laws and Union Rules: a. Labor Regulations: The entertainment industry must comply with applicable labor laws, including minimum wage requirements, overtime regulations, and workplace safety standards. Specific rules may apply to child actors, stunt performers, and other specialized roles. b. Union Agreements: Unions such as the Screen Actors Guild (SAG), Writers Guild of America (WGA), and Directors Guild of America (DGA) negotiate collective bargaining agreements that govern working conditions, compensation, and benefits for their members. Compliance with union rules is essential for maintaining harmonious labor relations and avoiding potential strikes or legal disputes. Cross-Border Regulations and International Distribution: a. Import/Export Controls: The distribution of media content and artistic works across borders may be subject to import/export controls, censorship, or content restrictions in different countries. Navigating these regulations is crucial for facilitating international distribution and avoiding potential legal or cultural conflicts. b. Intellectual Property Protection: International treaties and agreements, such as the Berne Convention and the TRIPS Agreement, establish frameworks for protecting intellectual property rights across borders. Ensuring compliance with these treaties is essential for safeguarding copyrights, trademarks, and other intellectual property assets in global markets. c. Cultural Considerations: Different cultural norms and sensitivities can influence the acceptability and reception of media content in various regions. Localization efforts, such as dubbing, subtitling, or content editing, may be necessary to adapt to specific cultural contexts and regulatory environments. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/law-school/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/law-school/support

After a grueling 118-day strike, the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) have reached a tentative three-year deal, marking the end of the longest strike in SAG-AFTRA's history. The agreement, described as “historic” includes significant wage and bonus increases, with a crucial focus on addressing concerns related to artificial intelligence (AI). Studio heads, including Ted Sarandos and Bob Iger, offered substantial protections against AI, paving the way for Hollywood to resume full-scale production within three weeks. While this marks a significant step forward, Hollywood still faces labour challenges, with VFX workers unionising at Disney and Marvel, and a potential strike looming in the video game industry. The deal signifies a hard-fought victory for over 160,000 SAG-AFTRA members and brings an end to a bitter labour dispute that began in May.

Harloff, Murrell, Striar, and Mulligan share personal anecdotes and stories of fellow pundits who have been directly affected by these strikes. Shockingly, in a big win for the cryptocurrency exchange market, the crypto coin XRP won its court battle against the Securities and Exchange Commission. Over the past year, the SEC has waged a sweeping crackdown on crypto that's ensnared the world's biggest digital asset companies. If the SEC won this court case, would it have been one step closer for the government to roll out the Central Digital Bank Currency (CBDC), backed by the World Economic Forum? In other news, Hollywood actors from the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) have begun a strike, halting nearly all production that has already stalled due to the writers' strike. In this week's episode, casting director, actor, and mom Shauna Earp-Ballinger brings her infectious energy to inspire and uplift actors of all levels. With the attitude of "If you're an actor, own it. Be it. Live it.", Shauna encourages listeners to wholeheartedly embrace their identity and fully commit to their craft, regardless of their role in theater or film, be it primary or background. She emphasizes the importance of treating everyone in the industry with respect and kindness, as it directly impacts the overall production. Drawing from her own journey, Shauna reveals that many successful actors start out as background performers, showcasing the value of on-set training. Shauna calls shenanigans on the idea that you have to go broke submitting self-tape auditions, and how they are a gift for both casting directors and actors. Join Shauna and Kenya as they remind us that unity, respect, and a true dedication to the craft can create magic within the acting community! Also Talked About: Shauna emphasizes the importance of unity and support within the acting and casting community. She shares that the set environment created a distinction between Screen Actors Guild (SAG) background actors and non-union performers, impacting how they were treated and how it affected the whole production. Many actors who eventually secure leading roles in productions initially begin their journey as background performers. Working on a set, regardless of the role (background or production assistant), provides valuable training and experience for aspiring actors. The importance of being present and connected with your body as an actor. Shauna encourages actors to keep going and follow their dreams, reminding them that their dream role is waiting for them if they stay determined! Each audition provides an opportunity to be noticed and make an impression, even if it doesn't result in an immediate booking. To Shauna, the only difference between theater, stage acting, and film acting is the only physical size of the performance space. Shauna explains why self-tape auditions can be beneficial for casting directors and talent, allowing them to review performances at their convenience and potentially discover hidden talent. You don't need to spend a fortune on equipment for self-tapes. It can be as a simple setup consisting of a phone, lamp, and clean wall. Shauna shares her belief in the lasting connections made on set and why she prefers not to say goodbye to her fellow cast and crew members. They moved on to talk about the Producer Guild (PGA) and Directors Guild (DGA) nominations, and who they think might be in right now and which films or filmmakers are on the outside looking in. In today's episode of the “Helping Families Be Happy” podcast, host Dr. Carla Marie Manly, a practicing Clinical Psychologist, Wellness Advocate, and Author based in Sonoma County, California talks with guest Jessica Lancaster who shares about her work as an Actor, Social Media Guru, Producer, and Waitress. Episode Highlights 01:38 – Jessica says, she waited tables now for 20 years and she doesn't actually need to do it financially anymore. 03:51 – It's important for people with phones to keep them away while they eat. 05:30 – Jessica wishes she could have had more family meals; so many wonderful things can happen around the dinner table. 07:10 – Dr. Carla asks Jessica about her life as an Instagram Goddess. 09:05 - Instagram is a great way to unite mothers. Those are the groups and communities of support and connection that can be found only through Instagram. 11:35 – If the post doesn't make sense of what they're doing or what they're trying to say, Jessica guides them to a better target market of quote selling. 13:30 – Jessica mentions that everybody is doing cool stuff like the artsy design but now what's working is just authentic feeling in the moment. 15:38 - It's important to shop local and support these women and these moms specifically as the money's going right into their children. 17:40 - The movie making and producing came out of necessity to play good roles, mentions Jessica. 19:43 – Jessica says, she grew up in an interesting family where her mom was married four times, and her dad was married three times. 21:00 – Jessica talks about what the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) means. 24:40 – Good acting is that they want something different than you want, and that's what makes the scene explode, says Jessica. 25:15 – Dr. Carla states, that as a parent, and partner you are seeing the other and you're responding to them whereas, in acting, you are reacting to create contrast. 27:50 - The scene has the contrast, but in life, one should get what they want. 29:38 – Jessica says, when there is a contrast, it's an easy solution. 31:25 - One piece of advice that sticks with Jessica is don't give up on having to be right. 33:18 – Jessica shares, that something shifted in her and she learned that it didn't feel good to be in an argument, and she's not going to do that anymore. 34:50 – If you're looking for a good movie, Jessica has got movies like ‘The Holy Fail', and ‘Choosing Signs' on Amazon. 36:10 – Dr. Carla says, we need more films about love, comedy, and lightheartedness. Three Key Points Dr. Carla Highlights - one of the things she loves about Familius Publishing is that they have a grassroots way of working where they honor moms, and families and are heavily focused on that. She's a believer that the more we support our kids, the more we support our family, the family's authenticity, genuineness, caring for the planet, and the happier we all are going to be in the long run. Children don't know enough to make life easy so the parents have to come in. Unfortunately for many people, they don't know how they weren't given lessons, they didn't have role models on how to be in a relationship. So, the work that is involved for people is getting to a place within themselves and their relationships. Dr. Carla mentions - it is about showing the world what it looks like to radiate love. Not radiate I am right, or I am better. You are bad, but to radiate love, because that's what Jessica does it's one of the things she specializes in naturally as she radiates love. Tweetable Quotes “I tell people at my tables I'm like, if possible, please don't have your cell phones out.” - Jessica Lancaster “If you're talking and communicating, you're not just eating the food. You're enjoying the food.” - Jessica Lancaster “You'll go to someone's page and they have like 100,000 followers and 17 likes, that feels inauthentic to me.” - Jessica Lancaster “The more authentic you are, the more successful your page will be.” - Jessica Lancaster “There is less than 1% of SAG actors are making a living acting.” - Jessica Lancaster “The SAG makes sure that I get the residuals from that TV show I did or same with CSI or whatever.” - Jessica Lancaster “It sounds as if being a producer might not be or as an actor might not be as glamorous as people think there's a lot going on behind the scenes.” – Dr. Carla Carie Manly “TV and film would be very boring if everybody got a long period.” - Jessica Lancaster “People want to be seen and validated. Glory is a product of the now and the way forward on a landscape cultivated entirely by the production of super producer, Ojizz.
