The bestselling horror author Stephen Graham Jones is said to have reinvented the slasher genre. His latest novel, “I Was a Teenage Slasher,” puts the reader directly in the mind of a killer. Stephen joins guest host Talia Schlanger to talk about the book, his love of slashers, and why he thinks it's the job of horror writers to walk into the darkness as far as they can — and then take two steps more.

Happy Halloween!
Wenig Kohle, verschleppter Kinostart, schlechter Ruf: keine guten Vorzeichen. Was verbindet Pornos, Slasher-Horror und diesen Podcast?

Was euch im Halloween Requel Podcast erwartet? Why are Slashers such a popular subgenre of horror? And where did they even come from?

Connect: Twitter | Instagram | Facebook | Website
Wes Craven's SCREAM reignited the lagging Slasher Genre in 1996 and spawned an entire franchise of a new horror icon. Let's go through all four of his Scream films!
Professor Spencer comes back to the pod, and this time we have a horror themed class for today that is dedicated to that bloody, gory, and sometimes goofy horror sub-genre we all love: The Slasher Genre. We get into the brief history of where is all began, the troupes seen in most slashers (Hello all my final girls), the boom of the early 80s and the demise in 84, and so much more. The Direct to Audio Spooky Season Spectacular wouldn't be complete without a little love for one of Horror's often imitated and often duplicated style of movie, and that is what lead to this deep dive for you today. Plus, it's one of Host (and professor) Spencer's favorites/ guilty pleasures, and it's his show, so... you're welcome.
In this episode I discuss slasher horror with screenwriter, Adam Lawson.
Big thank you once again to Noud van Harskamp for allowing me to use his Halloween theme cover for this episode!!Links to Noud on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/juggernoud1Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/1bRmsuNctWXZPpWAR7Qi4EWebsite: https://www.noudvanharskamp.com/Everyone knows the slasher film genre. You have some weird, psychotic killer going around killing horny teenagers and then one final girl stands up to them at the end. However ultimately, the killer comes back the next movie because they can't die for some weird reasons.John Carpenter's 1978 Horror Icon Halloween didn't invent the slasher genre, but it pioneered several tropes about the genre and ultimately turned the genre into the lucrative money-maker that it is today.Halloween follows Laurie Strode (played by Jamie Lee Curtis in her first feature length film) and her friends being stalked by escaped mental institution patient Michael Myers (Nick Castle, among others) on Halloween night. Along the way, Michael is being pursued by his doctor Samuel Loomis (played by Donald Pleasance). Will Laurie and her friends survive the night? Will Loomis stop Michael? Will Michael ever breath out of his nose?(seriously, his breathing is a tad ridiculous)With Halloween turning into a landmark horror film, its hard to imagine that it's the product of a 27 year-old film school drop-out as director with a cast and crew working on their first ever feature film on a budget of 325,000 dollars. But, using clever film tricks, brilliant cinematography, and an iconic score composed by John Carpenter himself, the film turned into a icon for all horror fans to see. When you think of horror films, a masked knife-wielding serial killer is probably one of the first images that comes to mind. But despite being one of the most iconic sub-genres in the horror pantheon, the slasher has experienced success as high as the kill count in John Wick, and failures as low as that time Middlesbrough beat Man City 8-1. But now, with the success of films like Happy Death Day and the new Halloween film, the slasher has stuck its machete into the map once again. But as the genre constantly evolves, what does its future hold? Featuring an in-depth review of the new Halloween, Jack and Alex carefully dissect the Slasher genre. Rated M for Michael Myers.
