And I think like if we can all think about it differently, we can actually start to spot things and support people instead of going well, how did that happen to them? Lesley Logan 0:16  Welcome to the Be It Till You See It podcast where we talk about taking messy action, knowing that perfect is boring. I'm Lesley Logan, Pilates instructor and fitness business coach. I've trained thousands of people around the world and the number one thing I see stopping people from achieving anything is self-doubt. My friends, action brings clarity and it's the antidote to fear. Each week, my guest will bring bold, executable, intrinsic and targeted steps that you can use to put yourself first and Be It Till You See It. It's a practice, not a perfect. Let's get started.Lesley Logan 0:55  Welcome back to the Be It Till You See It interview recap where my co-host in life, Brad, and I are going to dig into the groundbreaking convo I had with Joy Hoover in our last episode. If you haven't yet listened to that interview, feel free to pause this now and go listen to that one, or listen to this one and then listen to that one. You can do whatever order you want, but it's one you have to listen to. Brad Crowell 0:58  Whatever you want. Lesley Logan 1:00  I mean, I say it on all episodes, you got to go listen to it because, you know, we can only cover so much of what the guest said, but it's also like quite a unique, amazing thing. So Today is August 14th 2025 and it's got two things for you. I'm sure Brad want me to choose. I'm not going to do it. National, it's National Financial Awareness Day. So how much would you like to bet that most people don't know August 14th is National Financial Awareness Day?Brad Crowell 1:43  Well, it's about betting. They were being cute. I think it's cute. Lesley Logan 1:46  They still managed to say the date and the name. Brad Crowell 1:49  100% of the time they answer the question, they re-ask the question when answering the question always.Lesley Logan 1:54  It's more important than you think. And plus, what's more fun than financial independence?Brad Crowell 1:58  What is more fun? Yay. Skippy.Lesley Logan 2:01  Hey, you know what? Financial independence is literally the thing that, if you have you can do anything you want. You can leave any job, shitty relationship, shitty situation. Financial independence is like the thing. It's more, I think it's more important than just like, the ability to walk, you need to have financial independence.Brad Crowell 2:19  It's funny because it sounds silly, but at the same time, it's not something that anyone ever talks about. Like, no one, like, you're not taught this stuff at school. Right?Lesley Logan 2:32  Yeah, no, you're, no. I think I was taught to balance a checkbook, as if that did anything for me. But I like, I think about Tia Leving's episode. Brad Crowell 2:39  I have to say I was thinking about that.Lesley Logan 2:41  And I think about.Brad Crowell 2:42  If y'all don't remember, she was stuck in an abusive relationship where she had no control over the finances, and she couldn't leave, even though it was abusive, because if she did, she. Lesley Logan 2:52  Would lose her kids. Brad Crowell 2:54  She would lose her kids because she didn't have any money to support her kids. Lesley Logan 2:56  Yeah, this is where, like, a lot of people were like, oh, why don't they just leave? It goes back to, like, the Diddy stuff, oh they could have just left. No. When they're controlling your career, when they're controlling how where you live, and they're paying your rent and all these things, even if you think, oh, well, they did this. It was, there's, there's control, there's not financial independence, and if we have to teach that, even if the person's not abusive, because there's plenty of people who are partners, who are parents, who are bosses, who are non-abusive. Brad Crowell 3:03  Sure. Lesley Logan 3:05  But everybody deserves to have financial independence and financial awareness information so that they can make sure they're making the right decisions for themselves. And then they have options. You always have choices. Okay, back to why they want to educate us. So, first off, think about that great feeling you get when you don't have the looming spin specter of debt hanging over you. Also sound financial decisions can really make a difference down the road. Remember, retirement is a time to take all those vacations you couldn't when working the daily grind. I have so many problems with this day already, because you shouldn't wait for a retirement to take those vacations and don't let people tell you, debt is a big (inaudible).Brad Crowell 4:01  I was going to say the same thing, like, sure, debt can be looming, especially if it's like credit card debt that's keeping you bound. Lesley Logan 4:08  Yes, because they control you. Brad Crowell 4:09  Well, it's not just that. It's like, it's it's a it's oppressive to to moving forward because you're just paying the interest. But at the same time, like, I think my relationship with that changed when I became a business owner, because, you, you it's part of businesses also, you know, you can also have debt, and you can manage that debt without it destroying everything, so.Lesley Logan 4:30  And also, a good credit score is because you can show that you can manage debt. That's what it is. It's not being debt-free. It's managing debt. Which is which, yeah, okay, so there was good intentions with this day, anyways. Because money is important to our overall peace of mind, Financial Awareness Day is a great time to review where you are now and where you're going financially. Don't let bad financial decisions ruin the best years of your life.Brad Crowell 4:54  Okay, so we're just gonna stop reading this. But I think the points are still good. You know? I think, I think one thing that most, I'll tell you what I didn't do. I never reviewed my financial position. I didn't even know what that meant, right? I just knew that I needed to make enough money to get to the end of the month so that I could do it again, right? I never, like, stepped back and like was, was trying to look at like, oh, I have a car, the value of the car. Oh, I have a house, the value of the house, or, you know, whatever, like my, I have a savings account, or I have been putting money in my savings account. Do I have a plan? Never had a plan before, you know, the last couple of years and and now you can it's easy to get sidetracked from your plan. It's very easy to get sidetracked from your plan, unless you put things on an automated like your your money comes in, and then automatically, things happen at the end of the month. It's easy to forget to slide, you know, money over into your retirement fund, or whatever it might be, and you know, so what what you can do, which I think is really helpful, is to throw once a month review, you know, our just take a look at all the numbers. Take a look at it. Like, open up the credit card statement online, open up the bank account online, take a look at that. Like, log into your Social Security account. How weird is that to even say, does anybody do that? I do that. Okay. Lesley Logan 6:12  Yeah, I do it. I just don't I don't know, at this moment in time we're recording, I doubt we're gonna see any of it, but you should, I agree with you. Like, it's important to be aware of where all your accounts are, what's in all of them. Don't put your, don't be an ostrich. And also, like, please don't let the money stories of your parents or like, even your college years dictate like, what you think of yourself when it comes to money, because that attitude is not going to help you be it till you see it with financial success. Listen to our episode with wealth with Tess. That is the episode I want you to listen to if this day resonates with you. Okay, Love Your Bookshop Day. Of course, we talk about this becauseBrad Crowell 6:50  Tess's episode was 352. Lesley Logan 6:52  Wow. Brad Crowell 6:53  352Lesley Logan 6:54  So, Love Your Bookshop Day is celebrated every year, also on August 14th. It is a holiday that was founded by the Australian Booksellers Association. The aim is to appreciate bookshops around the country and highlight all the things that make local bookshops beneficial with an appreciation for books and encourages more people to read. Bookshops exist to serve the knowledge to the public, and that is a very important job. The more equipped bookshops are, the better quality of knowledge people can access to in a time when books are being ordered online, the local brick and mortar bookshop needs all the support it can get. You guys, they don't sponsor the show, but bookshop.org think that it's called, if you order your books through them, they send the money to support a local bookshop near you, and that if you want to have that online ease, but also support a local bookshop. I also like it's called a bookshop. So it's a bookstore. Anyways, go read a book. Go read, go read a book that's gonna, like, inspire you. Maybe I'll add a book (inaudible). Brad Crowell 7:47  Go sit in a bookshop, coffee shop. Lesley Logan 7:52  Oh my gosh. Have you been to the Writer's Block, babe? Brad Crowell 7:55  No, in Vegas? Lesley Logan 7:56  Yeah. Brad Crowell 7:56  Have not.Lesley Logan 7:57  Oh, they got a smoothie bar, coffee, a cat walk around. Don't take Bayon. Cats walking around the coffee shop. Maybe they have birds. I think it's a bird sanctuary, not cat sanctuary. Anyways, it is the coolest bookshop. And now listen to me, I'm gonna call it a bookshop my Australian accent, it's the coolest bookstore I've been to in a long time. But there's some other ones, and I actually want to start looking at some really cool bookstores when we start doing tours. Brad Crowell 8:19  It's a bird sanctuary. Lesley Logan 8:19  Yeah, bird sanctuary. You know how we like, we do vintage shops a lot. I think I want to switch that to, like, really cool bookstores, because there's some really cool bookstores out there. Okay, speaking of being on the road, we are on the road for a few more days, and so you can go to OPC.me/tour because I think you can get, if there's anything left, you can get to Idaho, Salt Lake or Las Vegas OPC.me/tour. Our winter tour will be announced in the fall, so stick around for that. Then we're home for a couple of weeks, and then, babe, we're headed to, where are we headed, in September, we're headed to the U.K. Brad Crowell 8:52  Yes, we're gonna, we're really fired up to be back to the U.K. and we actually have two stops we're doing this time. We're gonna be in Leeds and in Essex. So come join us. If you are in London. We actually set it up where you could be on a day pass with us.Lesley Logan 9:03  I think there's even all our workshops. So if you are someone who just wants to do one workshop now.Brad Crowell 9:07  Yeah, it might be. Go, go check it out. Go to opc.me/uk. We're going to be covering, it's mostly Pilates stuff. And then there's a couple of workshops. The workshops are skewed toward business, but they're not really business. It's like managing your calendar, that's managing, you know, how do you, how do you make an ideal schedule for yourself? And that, of course, can be used for business, but it's also you don't have to run a business to, you know, pull some benefits from that, and then, yeah, anyway, we can't wait to be back. It's gonna be awesome. In October, we're heading to Chicago. Lesley Logan 9:36  Yeah, there's Balanced Bodies, P.O.T. Chicago. And at the time of this record as this dropping, you can still get the early bird 10% off if there's any spots left. I do know that.Brad Crowell 9:46  Do you have a link for that? Lesley Logan 9:47  balancedbodypilates.com just like a P.O.T. Chicago and it comes up, like it kind of just comes up. But anyways, yeah, of course, it's a long link. However, when they emailed me last week, it was 75% sold out. So just so you know, don't wait on that. Then we're gonna go from Chicago to Cambodia.Brad Crowell 10:07  Directly, literally. Don't even go home. We just go straight through San Francisco to Cambodia. That's gonna be amazing. And basically, you know, we got, we still got room, and there's still time. It's only August. We're not going till October, right, so.Lesley Logan 10:20  Oh I know, people signed up for last one in December, we went. Brad Crowell 10:24  Six weeks ahead of time. Yeah. We had someone sign up six weeks ahead of time so. Lesley Logan 10:29  We had someone signed up two weeks ahead of time. Brad Crowell 10:29  Oh, it was only two. Lesley Logan 10:29  The last October, my mom's. Brad Crowell 10:31  Yeah, yeah, it was only two. Okay, yeah. So anyway, yeah, so it's possible there's still plenty of room come join us. It's gonna be amazing. And then, like, randomly, on the way home from Cambodia we're gonna be in Singapore.Lesley Logan 10:43  Yeah. So we're gonna see the Botanical Gardens, and we're working on teaching a gig. So you know, Singapore, Hi, we're coming. Brad Crowell 10:49  Yeah, we're coming. Lesley Logan 10:50  And then, of course, December is winter tour. We should be announcing all of that in the fall, so come October. But if you want to host with us, reach out. The team will help you fill out the forms. And if we're on the path this year, yay. And if we're not, we'll save you for another time. But don't, don't wait.Brad Crowell 11:06  Yeah that's going to be awesome. Before we get into this really interesting convo with Joy Hoover, also, like, scary-a-little-bit convo with Joy Hoover. From the statistics were like, mind blowing. I was like, What the hell. But before we get there, we got a question from Corinne_ca11 (aka Cori) from IG. She asks, hey, how many days a week do you recommend weight lifting in addition to your Pilates practice?Lesley Logan 11:34  Yeah, so here's okay. Brad Crowell 11:35  Great question. Lesley Logan 11:36  Great question. Personally, I lift weights three to four days a week and I do Pilates four to five days a week. Now, is that a scientific thing that you should be doing? I don't know. It's really works for my schedule. I particularly like an extra day of Pilates compared to my weight training, because I do feel like it keeps everything ready for the next one. Like weight training always makes my body feel a little bit heavy. I mean, of course, I feel great in it, and there's no knocks. Like, I believe every woman does need to lift some weights, but my body feels heavy. And so Pilates kind of like opens everything back up and readies it for the next time. And that's why I like it. But I will say, depending on what your goals are, you definitely, from what I've heard or what I've read, everyone should be lifting weights, two, three days a week, and then I believe Pilates should be done three to four days a week. And that doesn't mean hour long sessions, doesn't have to be, the amount of minutes is not as important as the consistency and the quality of the movement. So three quality reps over 10 is always better than it comes to Pilates, and that's just my opinion, but I particularly really like it, and I will we're actually we taught in Santa Barbara a workshop on mat Pilates for strength training, people who strength train. And I actually taught everyone there how to do a 20, 15-minute workout with 20 Pilates mat exercises that will benefit anyone who lifts weights. And you can literally do it after you lift all your weights at the gym, or you could do it before, or you could do it on your off days, or you could do it under your zone two as a way to, kind of like, stretch and move everything around. It's 15 minutes full body workout. It will absolutely improve your form and the results you're getting with your strength training. You can actually take a version of that workshop at fullbodyin15.com. Brad Crowell 13:17  Yeah, fullbodyin15.com love that, by the way, that's free. Lesley Logan 13:21  It's free. Brad Crowell 13:22  And it'll help you learn the five major spine shapes in Pilates and create that 15-minute workout. So definitely dig in there. Great question, Cori, thanks for that. If you have a question, text us at 310-905-5534 or because who can remember those phone numbers? Go to beitpod.com/questions beitpod.com/questions. Stick around. We'll be right back. We're gonna dig into this convo with Joy Hoover. Brad Crowell 13:49  Okay, now let's talk about Joy Hoover, who's our neighbor, by the way, temporarily, which is kind of cool. After experiencing a devastating family tragedy in 2013, Joy Hoover dedicated herself for 15 years in Vegas to improving women's safety, anti-trafficking and fighting gender-based violence. She founded the nonprofit Cupcake Girls, which y'all probably know because we support them with Profitable Pilates. And she later launched Esōes Cosmetics, pronounced SOS. It's spelled E-S-O-E-S the world's first patented smart lipstick featuring built-in drink testing strips and a panic button that is linked to a safety app. Her work has supported over 10,000 survivors and earned multiple awards and national media recognition. And it's quite, it's quite, quite clever. Lesley Logan 14:40  You know what's funny is we just recapped David Corbin, and you met Joy at the same exact event. Brad Crowell 14:46  David. Lesley Logan 14:48  Is that the same we just interviewed? Brad Crowell 14:50  Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Lesley Logan 14:51  You met them both at the same event.Brad Crowell 14:52  So yes, David, I did. I actually had lunch with Joy, or I sat at a table withJoy. Yeah, it was lunch. And then David was the after the event was over. You're right. What a great event that was.Lesley Logan 15:03  Yeah. And it's funny, because I didn't interview them near each other, but they're coming out next to each other, so that's hilarious. So we talked. I mean, first, I just want to say that, like, if you haven't yet listened to this episode and you there is, like, violent talk in there. There are some topics that could be triggering or activating in some people. So do take caution when you listen to it, but I do think it's really important to listen to because, I wanna highlight a couple parts of her story that have nothing to do. Well, they have a lot to do with all the things, but like, you can see yourself in those stories. So when she and her husband had their first kid, his dad killed his mom, and they just had a baby. And so can you imagine being new parents and then, like, dealing with, like, the, not just the loss of parent, but like.Brad Crowell 15:49  I think she said that their daughter was, like, eight days old and they had to fly across the country to handle that. Lesley Logan 15:51  I mean, of course, so tragic, but for them to figure out, for them to not let that define them, but instead allow them to create a, carve a path that could help them, use their story to support other people with different stories in them is really, really cool. And I think a lot of times we have these tragic things happen in our lives, and they become the story we tell ourselves that's held us back. Oh, I've lost seven people in my life. Oh, this happened, and I don't want to discount those things. Those are especially like, when you have abuse like that, ends in that way it is. It's devastating. But, I do think that, like. Brad Crowell 16:27  She said it was happening for like, 40 years. Lesley Logan 16:30  Yeah, and that's like, that's really hard to grow up around, to experience, to like, to have relationships and other things. And so I just want to say, like, I think that their their story and other people's stories that are similar, where they persevered through that. It kind of it, it changed who they are as parents and also how they raise their children, but also how they see other people. Because I think it's so easy to judge, like, why didn't she leave? Or why, like, we talked about this earlier with the financial stuff, like, Why didn't this? And it's like some of this stuff has been going on for so long, you know, you don't think it will ever turn to something that bad, right? So, and then the other thing that I want to highlight that happened to them as they started SOS, really cool company. Invest their life savings to, like, make this product, it's going to help.Brad Crowell 17:15  Raise money, like, had friends and family help support.Lesley Logan 17:17  It's gonna help people who, who need, access to support wherever they are, and obviously women, this is what the product is for. But we all need this. It can be helpful for anybody, but they had a fire like a freak electrical situation in their roof. First of all, the product helped get the fire department there. You have to listen to the story. It's insane. Brad Crowell 17:38  Faster than calling 911. Lesley Logan 17:39  Yes, faster than calling 911, this product, they were able to press the panic button and get the fire department there, which the fire department said, if they had, any, any minute later, they would have lost the whole house. So they got to keep the framework. Anyways, there's a lot going on there, but they lost all the product. Yeah, however, because they had to start from scratch, and they already had customers, and they'd already been going through it. They use it as an opportunity to make it even better. And I share this because, like, so many times, like.Brad Crowell 18:09  I mean, how do how deflating would that be that not only do you lose your house, but all your business at the exact same time. Lesley Logan 18:16  I mean, I don't even know how you just go get a job at Costco. Like, I don't even know how you go let me do this again. Brad Crowell 18:20  Let me start over. Lesley Logan 18:21  I, like, buy.Brad Crowell 18:22  After everything burned down. Lesley Logan 18:23  While I'm not living in my own home. Like, let me just start this over while like, all, that's what, I'm not gonna lie, like, I think I seriously would have got a job at Costco because I could get my steps in. You know, I hear good things. The hot dogs are $1.50 like, you know, like, I would have just, like, packed it in, but instead, they use it as an opportunity to make the product even better. Aand I think, as a business owner or someone who's working on a new project like we think we have to get it right from the first time, the first start, the first the first iteration has to be the best one. And actually, like most people's first ones are not the one that go like, not the one that goes to market. In fact, we have. Brad Crowell 19:01  How many websites have we rebuilt? Lesley Logan 19:03  Don't tell me. Don't tell me. But you know what? Even our mat deck, right? Like we have changed the mat deck, our Mat Flashcard Deck, because we put it out there, we sold 3000 decks, and then we printed a new version of it, because we've all the feedback we got. And then also how we know other people use the other decks? Ken Endelman said that, you know, Joe Pilates, a lot of his sketches and his patents that he sent in, and not really sent in, but he pretended like he did, those are not things he went to market with. He's like, you don't usually go to market with the first one. Like, you use that to get the patent, but that's not what what you go to market with. And so I think, like. Brad Crowell 19:38  I mean, even now, we've just made another change to the flashcard deck boxes, you know, like, like, like it. Because every time we learn something new, we're like, oh, we need to add that on, or we need to do this, or we should adjust this, or whatever. Lesley Logan 19:53  Oh, yeah, we have to made in the USA, on our boxes. Brad Crowell 19:55  How do we how do we miss that? Five years, we never, we were never (inaudible). Lesley Logan 19:58  Clearly, it wasn't like, I remember my dad, like, going, does it say made in the USA? No, you can't have it. So I don't even know how, like, I'd skipped my brain. We were printing it, but apparently it's a thing. Anyways, I just point this out, because even if you don't think the topic applies to you, you think, oh, I'm not going off having first dates, or I'm not, like, I'm not interested in this, every single one of us is going to do a first again? And then get frustrated because it didn't work. And honestly, it's because you're supposed to, you're supposed to go with the second thing or the third iteration. Brad Crowell 20:30  Yeah. I mean, there's also the tech. The tech part of the of it, it is proximity, or like, as well. So if somebody else in a room, if you are on the app and someone else in the room pushes the button, you will get notified as well. So like, you know, might not necessarily be you personally, who might be in that scenario, but it could be that you're in the proximity of someone who needs help. So, just interesting. Lesley Logan 20:53  Yeah, and this is, like, we're, we're like, you know, we can be, we always think we want it. We can be an alert for other people, but it's hard to be an alert when you can't see the signs, like we've talked about, like somebody like choking, you can see actual signs. They are choking. They need help. But when someone feels unsafe on a date or at a meeting or, you know, or walking down the street, you can't tell oftentimes that they feel unsafe. And this is a very discreet way, a very discreet tech that allows them to say, I'm not safe, and other people to be able to be witnesses or support in that, in that, yeah, so I think it's really cool.Brad Crowell 21:26  Yeah, definitely, you know, like a lot, like a lot going on there, you know, I think I have something else I wanted to talk about, but just the fact, first off, how the hell is it possible that they build a relationship with the emergency services, where pressing a button on a lipstick container would get the fire department to her house faster than calling nine fucking one one, like, what? How did they? How did they do that? I didn't even know that I didn't even know how that's possible. Lesley Logan 21:52  (inaudible) want to know. But obviously, like that might be like, you know, confidential information is I want people to know, not because, like, you know, like, maybe they're not allowed to say, maybe it's an NDA. But no, we called 911, and got put on hold.Brad Crowell 22:05  What? But it also makes you realize that there are, like, clearly, there are systems that can be tapped into, and they were able to figure that out. I didn't even know that that was a thing. Like, I would have imagined.Lesley Logan 22:19  It makes me think of what's the Italian Job where Seth Green's character is like, tapping into, like the yeah napster is like tapping into like the red lights up. That's a red light. That's a green light. Like, clearly, there's.Brad Crowell 22:32  Sorry, I won't start until you address me as Napster.Lesley Logan 22:34  Yeah, yeah, yeah. There's clearly, like, something. But I also just want to say, like, if you haven't yet listened to the episode, you want to listen to it so you could understand what the product is, and you can also see it on our YouTube channel. It's quite cool, and I think, an excellent gift for every woman in your life, even if they're married, it's you, you, because she talks about using it for like a kid she saw on the street. Brad Crowell 22:55  So yeah, she said, yeah. She and and her husband saw a kid with no shoes in Vegas, which walking down a sidewalk or whatever, and she's like, there's something wrong here clearly, you know, so, but, but, yeah, I mean, it's, anyway, the tech part is fascinating and really, really fancy. And then, of course, they have, it's lipstick, so presumably they will have different colors at some point. Lesley Logan 23:19  Yeah, there's a whole thing. It's, I mean, she's done a great job. Brad Crowell 23:22  And then, but anyway, you know, she was talking about blame culture, oh yeah. And she was talking about how there's a crazy number of people who've experienced drink spiking where, you know, I was looking up a bunch of stats, and, like, like, at very least 10% of women have reported it saying, like, I either have my drink spiked, or I saw someone spike someone else's drink. Lesley Logan 23:44  It's also, I think the number is so high because, like (inaudible). Brad Crowell 23:50  Well, that's, that's only, that's only, like people who have actually reported it, you know. And then there's, there's polling that has happened where you know it's, it's not, that's not necessarily reported to, like, it's a poll. Lesley Logan 24:00  Well, can you imagine if nothing, or you don't know if anything happened to you? Like, I have just in all the podcasts I listen to, like, people have called the cops and the cops are like. Brad Crowell 24:10  Don't do shit. Lesley Logan 24:11  Don't do fucking shit. And don't I'm not, like, I'm not against police, guys. What I am against is this culture of, like, not believing women, and it goes to this blame stuff. Like, what were you wearing? What were you doing? You know, like, if you're.Brad Crowell 24:23  Or it's like, did they, did they threaten you? You know, like, I guess maybe I don't know what the actually, this is interesting. If you, if you know, what do you need to say to get them to pay attention? That would be something that'd be worth finding. I don't know the answer to that. I mean, just, there's a there's a.Brad Crowell 24:43  Well, because here's like, I, my personal experience was I had somebody threaten me when I was living in L.A. right, and I was afraid, and I didn't know what to do, so I called the police, and it wasn't an emergency. He wasn't like, he wasn't at my door. But I called them, and I said, hey, I I don't know what to do here, but, like, this guy's threatened me, and he's he might be on his way over right now. I don't. know what to do. And they were like, did he threaten to kill you? And I was like, he didn't say, I'm going to kill you. And they were like, we're not going to do anything. And I was like, what? Like, he's, he's making me feel like I'm in trouble.Lesley Logan 25:11  Well, I just listened to, it was just, I was listening to, like, a Dateline or something like that. And they brought up the story about this woman, Denise, who was kidnapped from her home, and then, like, taken away for several days, and then, and then told not to tell anyone. And they called her the American Gone Girl, like the real life Gone Girl. They didn't believe her boyfriend. They said he must have done it. He must, must have done it. They didn't believe her. They tried to charge her with a crime. They just said that they, like, wasted the police time. Then come to find out, two other victims called separate police departments to claim the same thing, and those police departments didn't believe them. Why would anyone do that? Like, didn't believe them. So I am with you. Like, we don't we need to know. What do cops need to hear so they actually believe what you're saying. But also, like, I think it just goes.Brad Crowell 25:53  Like, it's a common experience among survivors is that they're like, I wasn't believed, right, and, and, like, the the number of people who, in polling have to have have said, hey, yes, I've experienced drink spiking, is like, could be, like, super high. It could be as high as one in two women. Right? And anyway, like when you put it all together, there's clearly a problem. It's fucked up, that there's a problem, but there is a problem, right? And then when women aren't believed, you know, and it doesn't actually just have to be women having their drink spiked. Anybody can have their drink spiked. Lesley Logan 26:28  I listen to the podcast Bad Dates, many men get their drinks spiked. Brad Crowell 26:31  Yeah, when, when if it's reported and it's not believed, what does that teach the person who reported it? Yeah, that they're they're not going to try to even report it next time. What's the point is what they're going to say. Lesley Logan 26:43  And that's what puts you people in not so great situations, where by the time something does happen, it's a little too late to get help. But I think, like, what, you know, she talked a little bit like changing, changing the shift of of shame from the survivor, from the survivor to the perpetrator, and making that the focus. And I think when you use a product like they have, or you educate women in an or man in this way of like, what? What does it mean to like it's not your fault. It really is is more empowering because now you, especially like, so many people are have fear about like, well, what goes what if something goes wrong on the date? What happens if something goes wrong in the interview? What if something goes wrong at the house showing like, we can take some of the fear away and put some control back in the hands of the person who might be might become a victim of something, and we can hopefully stop that or mitigate that.Brad Crowell 27:32  Yeah, and obviously, you know, Joy and her company are very aware of all of the stigma, so they've been intentional about their names of their products. Like, one of them is called We Believe You, It's Not The Dress, you know, like, like, stuff like that, which speak directly to the problem, the real problem, which is the blame game.Lesley Logan 27:54  Yeah, yeah. I just think it's like, you know, unfortunately, we're recording this, like, right after, like, some of the Diddy trials and Weinstein's retrial, and, like, it starts to make you think that, like, the Me Too movement, kind of, like, didn't, didn't have the effect that we thought it would have, and women aren't being believed as much or, or the blame is on them for putting themselves in the situations. And I think, like, if we can all think about it differently, we can actually start to spot things and support people, instead of going, well, how did that happen to them? Like with a judgment, it can, things can happen to anybody at any time in this world. And since we can't actually stop these perpetrators because we don't know who they are, what we can all do is band together and be part of a support system, of of being there for people, whether we know them or not, and just being a safety for them, and also not assuming it's what they wore or what they did at a certain time, or why would you be on that street, like all that stuff is unhelpful and.Brad Crowell 28:54  Doesn't solve the problem anyway. Lesley Logan 28:55  No, doesn't, doesn't. So, anyways, we can get our high horse on this forever. But I do love what Joy is doing, and I think this product is really cool. Brad Crowell 29:03  Yeah. And also, you know, driven by a clear problem that needs a solution. And, you know, it's just really, really clever. And you know, if you see, if you actually go look at the lipstick, it's pretty innocuous. You wouldn't act there's no like, press here, like Acme button kind of a thing. It's, it's quick, easy and then what, what I thought was also cool is you can set it so that, if I think there's settings, if you click it once, you can alert one person. If you click it twice, you can alert a different person.Lesley Logan 29:34  Yeah, you can set up the different things in the app for what you do. And one of our neighbors, you know, her daughter was going off to EDC. Daughter's 19 years old, going to EDC, and of course, the mom wants her daughter to go to EDC, like you should experience festivals when you're 19. She had this product, and she had a Narcan, a Narcan thing so she could be there in case someone needed it, right, like Narcan for somebody who's overdosing, but she had this product to make sure that her own stuff was safe. And that she could be safe so she could enjoy herself and be at EDC. You know, I love, for a 19 year to live in a place where she could just go to a festival and be fine. We don't live in that world. So I love that she was empowered to have a good time and also take care of herself and her friends. Brad Crowell 30:19  That's really cool. That's cool. All right. Well, stick around. We'll be right back, because Joy gave us a couple of really amazing Be It Action Items. We're going to dig into those. Brad Crowell 30:19  All right, welcome back. So finally, let's talk about those Be It Action Items. What bold, executable, intrinsic or targeted action items can we take away from your convo with Joy Hoover? She said, hold space for yourself. This came from her conversation around the collective trauma that she and her husband and, you know, daughter experience when her daughter was only eight, but with her in laws, right? And she said, immediately after it happened, they started to get therapy as a as a couple, and they've maintained, you know, therapy since, and that was 2013, so it's been a while, right? And she said, prioritizing your healing, it puts you in a position to help others without inadvertently hurting them, right? Like she said, she's and the call out here was, you have to heal yourself first. You can't heal the heal the world if you're not healing yourself first, right? And she said something very intention. She said it was it's not about your intention, right? It's about your impact. And you could have the intention of helping people, but actually be hurting them. So you need to heal yourself first before you're going on to support others in that kind of a way. She said, also, it's not selfish. It's she said, it is selfish to not heal yourself first. It's not selfish to take care of yourself. It's selfish if you don't take care of yourself. Lesley Logan 31:53  I mean now I love this. Brad Crowell 31:55  Yeah, and this is, like, obviously, right up our alley, you know? And.Lesley Logan 32:00  Do you know what I read the other day in it, in my own My Morning reads, And I am like, now preaching it, because I always say, like, self-care isn't selfish care, right? So self-care is actually an act of self-love. And if you do not love yourself, you actually cannot love other people. Can't. You can feel like you're loving on them and supporting them and liking them, but like, you actually can't truly love others because you don't love yourself. And the hatred and vitriol we're seeing in this world today, online, and in other places, is just because a bunch of people don't love themselves. And we're like, the world needs love. Gotta love yourself first. Cannot just like, go out you can't just spread yourself thin. And I think that that act of therapy, an act of self-love, it's an act of self-care. It's very important. It's not selfish. You're right. Brad Crowell 32:45  Yeah. What about you? Lesley Logan 32:44  Okay, so she said she encouraged us all to join the Swipe Red movement. The core slogan of the movement is, "No more shame, no more doubt. We see red flags, we call them out." And so you can contribute to the community awareness if you just go to Esōes Cosmetics, and that's at esoescosmetics.com and it provides platforms for community engagement. You can submit experiences you had so others can recognize and respond to similar threats. I think that's really important, because sometimes you have not experienced a red flag, but if you hear about other people's, you go, oh, and then you can see the signs. Brad Crowell 33:10  You know, it's funny, because it, I get a weekly email forwarded from my mom who gets notifications from her company about cybersecurity threats, right? And what people have done to trick other people into giving away information that eventually could hurt them, right? And so it's the same idea here. You know this, the community platform that they've put together is a way to just become more educated and be aware. So I love that. Lesley Logan 33:53  And also, in that community, you can ask for guidance on your own red flags. You can submit a question to inquire the situation the minor ick or a significant red flag. Here's the thing, I love this because, you know, 12 years ago, my therapist was like, Yeah, miss, you ignored the red flags in your relationship. So you need to go back into your memory box about those first dates and what flags did you ignore that were red so that you can spot them as you date. And then you have to practice like, how red is this flag? Is this an orange flag? Is it a yellow flag? What kind of flag is this? And I love this because you don't have to do it by yourself. You could do with other people. You could help you can use other people's red flags to help you. So I think it's really cool. I think it's cool. And what a unique Be It Action Item. So, I'm in. Really cool. I hope everyone goes and checks this out again. Like it can be a great gift for a woman in your life or a person in your life, but also, just like to be aware of what's going on. It's so easy for us to think it won't happen to us, and this stuff, you know, like, some people, I've heard people go, oh, I'm too old for that. Like it won't happen to me. And like, I worry the fuck out of like, my mom and women her age who are dating. I'm like, like, no, there are things that can happen to you. I remember my 80 year old clients, like, I can't get pregnant. I'm like, yeah, but you can get crabs, babe. Like, what? You can't just feel like life's good now I don't have anything to worry about. No, bad things happen to good people. You have to be aware. So, thanks, Joy for what you're doing. I'm Lesley Logan. Brad Crowell 35:16  And I'm Brad Crowell. Lesley Logan 35:17  How are you going to use these tips in your life? Please let us know. 时隔22年重映!“哈利·波特”系列电影为何经久不衰?

一席英语·脱口秀:老外来了

Play Episode Listen Later Oct 17, 2024 14:28

主播:Flora(中国)+ Erin(美国) 歌曲:Double Trouble我们今天来聊聊最近在全球重映的魔法题材系列电影——Harry Potter。It has captured the hearts of millions worldwide (俘获了全世界数百万人的心). Even now, with the re-release (重映) of the films, fans—both old and new—are flocking to (涌向) cinemas to relive the magic (重温). 前几天Flora订票的时候发现Harry Potter的放映厅位置爆满。You really had to scramble to get the best seats (抢最佳观影位置) for the movie! It's the same thing in the U.S. Erin knows a lot of people would seat in theaters for hours on end, watch like an entire marathon of the movies (很多人会在影院里一坐就是几个小时,就像看一整部马拉松式的电影一样). So Today, we're breaking down the top reasons (首要原因) why Harry Potter remains so beloved.01. The relatability of its characters 角色的亲和力They're real, flawed (有缺点的), and far from perfect. 让人觉得没有距离感。In fact, there are actually a lot of movies and TV shows that simplify (简化) the characters and their emotions. We see them deal with everyday problems, especially as teens and young adults. They aren't portrayed (被描绘) as overly mature (过度成熟)—they are as messy and unsure as we were at their age.And it perfectly reflects the everyday challenges that we face as teenagers. From Harry's insecurities (不安全感) to Hermione's perfectionism (完美主义) and Ron's feelings of inadequacy (不自信), these are issues we've all faced.相信这些是大家经历过的事情,所以我们很容易resonate with them(与他们产生共鸣)。That authenticity (真实性) makes us connect with them on a personal level.02. A magical world intertwined with reality 与现实交织的魔法世界Another reason the series feels so magical is how the wizarding world (魔法世界) is intertwined (交织) with our own. It's not some completely distant, far-off place. Instead, the magical world runs parallel to our reality (与现实平行).This makes a lot of kids believe in Hogwarts (霍格沃茨) even more. 所以很多孩子到了11岁的时候会期待收到来自Hogwarts的录取通知。It seems like magic could actually be hidden around the corner. You can almost imagine bumping into (撞见) a wizard in Diagon Alley (对角巷) or stumbling onto (偶然发现) Platform 9¾ (9¾站台) at King's Cross (国王十字). That connection makes it feel closer and more real.03. Distinctive school divisions 独特的学院划分In fact, Hogwarts itself is another huge draw (巨大的吸引力). 他们没有按照教授的内容去划分学院,而是按照学生的traits and characteristics(特征和特性)。It is unlike traditional magical schools at all.Gryffindors (格兰芬多) are known for their bravery, Ravenclaws (拉文克劳) for their intelligence, Hufflepuffs (赫奇帕奇) for their loyalty, and Slytherins (斯莱特林) for their ambition. It's not just about learning magic—it's about belonging to a group that reflects who you are.找到一个属于你的群体会帮你建立a sense of belonging(一种归属感)。Wherever in Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff or Slytherin, you will all find a place where you belong.Fans love imagining which house they'd be sorted into (被分到哪个学院). It's more than (不仅仅是) just a school; it's a home where your values and traits are recognized and celebrated (这是一个让你的价值观和特质得到认可和庆祝的家). Anywhere on the internet that mentions Harry Potter, you see people discussing what house they are.Flora did a Personality Test-Which Hogwarts House Are You in (你在哪个霍格沃茨的学院里)?Basically, you need to do some multiple choice questions (多选题) where you'll get points for each option, and at the end you'll need to add up the points. 一个分数区间会对应一个霍格沃茨学院。大家如果对这个测试感兴趣也可以去搜一下:Which Hogwarts House Are You in? If you're interested in MBTI 16 personality, you must be very much the same with this one.04. The stunning visuals 令人惊叹不已的视觉效果Like Gloucester Cathedral (格洛斯特大教堂——位于英格兰南部的格洛斯特郡) and Alnwick Castle(阿尼克城堡——位于英格兰东北部的诺森伯兰郡), it makes them even more special. These places are not just CGI (computer-generated imagery)—they have history, depth, and character. This makes them more relatable and appealing. 05. Memorable quotes 令人难忘的名言It's like magic brought to life (魔法被赋予了生命). Harry Potter最powerful(强大)也是最伟大的地方就在于它教会我们的life lessons(人生教训),it's about love, friendship, and loyalty(爱、友谊和忠诚)。These values that transcend gender, race, and age.和我们大多数人一样,他们一开始只是nobodies(无名小卒)。Over the course of the series (在这个系列中), they grow, face incredible challenges, and mature in ways we can all admire. 也许这才是我们普通人崇拜的英雄。It's a story of resilience (坚韧) and growth. No matter who you are or where you start, you can become something greater through courage, friendship, and perseverance. They're all precious treasures in life. Finally, the series is packed with memorable quotes(充满了令人难忘的名言) that stick with (继续跟着) you long after you've closed the book or left the theater.Like Dumbledore (邓布利多)'s wisdom: “It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live (人不要依赖梦想而忘记生活).”Or “Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light (即便在最黑暗的时候,也可以找到幸福,只要你记得开灯).”“We've all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That's who we really are (每个人内心都有光明与阴暗的一面,重要的是我们如何选择,那才是真正的我们).”These lines aren't just magical—they're reminders of how we can approach life (对待生活). 它们讲述了the struggles we all face and the choices we make。That's why we love Harry Potter so much. It's the characters we relate to, the magical world that feels so close, the life lessons that guide us, and the quotes that stay with us forever.Whether you're watching the re-release in theaters or picking up the books for the hundredth time, Harry Potter's magic never fades (哈利·波特的魔法永不褪色). 他会一直提醒我们:friendship, bravery, and staying true to ourselves(友谊、勇气和忠于自己),这三样东西是何其宝贵。06. Online reviews of the Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone movie接下来是来自Rotten Tomatoes“烂番茄网站”的一些影评。 If you love Harry Potter as much as we do, share your favorite reason with us. Thanks for joining us today. Until next time, keep the magic alive (让魔法永存)!请在评论区告诉我们:你觉得《哈利·波特》系列电影怎么样?

For years, names like Josh Gibson, Cool Papa Bell, and Satchel Paige were well known as legends in the Negro Leagues, but unrecognized in the record books alongside their white contemporaries. Last week that changed, as a nearly quarter-century long endeavor to collect and verify decades of statistics was unveiled for the first time. The news seems to have been met with every emotion under the sun: confusion, anger, disdain, but not joy. And part of that is because many are confused as to what's actually happening. This story was never about Josh Gibson unseating Ty Cobb as the single season batting average leader. It was about presenting the statistics of major professional baseball leagues as evidence to support the legends that played. So Today, our host Clinton Yates sits on the other side of the table and joins our very own Alex Hyacinthe to break down what this process undertook, and what this really means for baseball. Retaining Top Talent: How Plumbing and HVAC businesses can keep and attract the best employees   I am your host, Corey Berrier. And today, folks, we're on a little bit different episode. First, I want to thank you. I want to thank you so much for supporting this show. Thank you so much for helping us get ranked top 5% worldwide. It's pretty dope. I also want to thank our military and every person that has served. Heck, I want to thank the people getting ready to serve. My neighbor just put a sign in his yard. Said the making of a marine or something like that. In other words, kids going to the Marines. I think that's great. My brother was a Marine, so I became a father, not a father. Jesus, an uncle of four overnight. My little brother had our newest edition to our Berrier family, and his name is Ryle, his Middle name is Prince, and his last name is Berrier, which I think is a pretty dope name. I like it. I like it because it's different. It's super different. And you're probably thinking, Corey, I cannot believe your white brother named his kid print. How in the world did that happen, Corey? Here's a story behind that. It's not what you think. He didn't name the kid after Prince, the freaking singer. His wife, Michelle, the baby's mother, last name was Prince. So it's a pretty cool story if you ask me. Congratulations to Josh on also adopting your two newest kids; I guess that is what you would say. They're not even new kids, but Josh adopted Landon and Sydney, so that's how I became an uncle of four because of his other Daughter, Ivy. So now, just to wrap up for you, Josh adopted two kids on Wednesday. He had a kid on Wednesday,, and he already had a kid, so that makes me uncle A four. Today you'll get to hear the exact talk that I gave at Connect. So I decided I had got, I've gotten a lot of messages about people that had not, didn't, didn't get to see it, didn't get to. Sit in on the presentation, so I just decided to record it, and here it is Today. You, you're gonna get to listen to it on here. It is also on YouTube. I probably already mentioned that, but you should also check that out. The link will be in the show notes. We will see you on the other side. Rock and roll. My name is Corey Barrier, I am sales CEO, and last Wednesday, I gave my talk on retaining top talent. How plumbing and HVAC businesses can keep and attract their best employees. Now, I know a lot of you didn't make it to the talk, and I see a lot of you wanted to make it to the conference because I got to talk to you afterward and you were disappointed that you missed the conversation. And I understand because this is a really big deal right now. In the trades, this is such a big deal. If you wanna, go ahead and scan that QR code, that'll take you to all of my information. A few things about me. I am a number one best seller on Amazon. Nine Simple Steps to Sell More Shit. I host the Successful Life Podcast, in which we are ranked top 5% worldwide. I own multiple businesses. I am the winner. Of the North Carolina C Golden Toilet Award, which I am unbelievably grateful for, and I now chair the North Carolina Auxiliary Committee. So that's a little bit about me. Now is a little bit more about, is a little bit more about my history and some things that I've gone through.   Training Bra     I had a pretty good childhood. I'll be honest with you. I have two great parents, but when I was 12 years old, I just graduated from my sixth-grade class with straight A's and one B. The only year I made Straight A's and one B. We were at a graduation party with some of my friends. I had jumped off the diving board and popped out the other end of the pool. And these three girls, the cutest three girls in the whole school,, were at the end of the pool. And so I got out, and they asked me if I would go jump off the diving board again. So I'm thinking they think I'm cute, right? Why else would they ask me to go jump off the diving board? I confidently walked back, got to the diving board, walked out to the end, and bounced up and down. Do you know what I mean? I jump into the pool, and I get back out, and they ask me to do it again, and I'm like, Ooh, man. For sure, I'm in there without a shadow of a doubt. I'm in there and about halfway back to the pool. The diving board in one of the girls says, Hey Corey, you ever thought about wearing a training bra? Nope. I had not ever thought about wearing a training bra. Now you can imagine the sheer embarrassment, the humiliation that I felt that day. Now, rightly I was a fat kid. I'll be honest with you. I am super grateful to those three girls for calling me out and embarrassing the daylights outta me because I got off my butt and lost weight, and I've never gained it back. and I've been healthy ever since. So I appreciate that, that awful situation that happened to me now for me instead. So by the age of 22, I racked up three DUIs. 20. By 2005, I was caught with four ounces of cocaine, and fortunately, I hired a costly lawyer and spent six months in a re-inpatient rehab facility. It was an absolute nightmare, but it was better than prison. And so one would've thought I would've straightened up at that point, but I didn't. I kept drinking because drinking was my friend. Now, while I was in that rehab center, I got married, un, I didn't really wanna get married, but I didn't have a driver's license, so I had to get married, selfish. I know. And I wouldn't make that same decision today. That day I did. And so 2009 rolled around, and it was time for me to get my driver's license back. And so that process after eight years is you gotta go in front of the DMV and you gotta explain why you should drive again, and you gotta bring witnesses and all kinds of stuff. And so I did that, and successfully, I walked out of there with a driver's license under a few con conditions. Those conditions were. I had to get an ignition interlock put in my car, which was a big old black, it was a little bit, it was about that long. So it was longer than this, way more prominent, and you just, you had to go, type these numbers in and dig digits in the right way and below, like your brain's gonna. and so naturally, I agreed to that because that was a good deal for me, even though it was for seven years. And at the time, I thought, I cannot believe they gave me seven years Today. I am grateful they gave me seven years because it took that long for me to realize. I don't mean alcohol in my life. I did stop drinking in 2009, but I can't promise you. I wouldn't put my money on myself if that device hadn't forced me because I'll tell you what happened, and this is when I had to make a decision. And a lot of you will understand this. Sometimes you gotta decide on your business. It's a hard decision to make, but you just have to decide to move forward and whatever happens. And so after I got that thing put in my car, I set it off again, or I set it off. And I had to go immediately down to the DMV and explain to that same lady why I just set this thing off after I just told her I quit drinking. And so I got out of that. I talked my way out of that, and I'm grateful for that lady Today because she could have I could have ruined my life by making that decision. She could have enforced what she promised, what she should have implemented, which was for me not to drive. But I'm grateful that she gave me some grace that day. And we don't always get grace in life, but sometimes we need it, and sometimes we need it in our business. And sometimes you gotta ask for help, and people are okay helping, but you gotta ask for it anyway. So she explained very clearly to me, Corey if I ever. , if I ever see your face in this office again, you will never drive on the streets of North Carolina again. Do you understand? Yes, ma'am. And I knew right then my nine lives were gone. I had no more opportunities. I had no more chances. I had no more mess-ups. I had no more, No, I was done, and I knew I was done. And so I had a choice to make. And that choice was to go down this route that I've taken you down today and keep doing that over and over or fast forward and become sales ceo. And so that's what I. So Today we're gonna get into what you came here about, which is how, how to retain talent.   Business owners that have ADHD have a superpower [audio mp3="https://coreyberrier.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/retaining-Top-Talent-PHCC.mp3"][/audio]   60% of business owners, six out of 10 people. And if you're wondering why I'm talking about ADHD, I'm talking to you. You're a business owner. 60% of us have ADHD. We're lots of us are visionaries, right? And a lot of you will recognize this. You can see the bigger picture in your business. You can see how things are gonna work, right? You can understand the overall vision of where you're going. Whether you can explain that or not, that's a different story. But the integrator in this scenario is the person that defines and implements it, right? You come up with a grandiose idea. You have somebody else implement it, you're good at one or two for sure, one or two things, but there's a lot of things you're not good at, right? Like marketing, we all suck at marketing. So why would you try to do your own marketing? It doesn't make sense. If you suck at your books, stop doing your books. Let somebody else do your books, Pay them to do your books, and you do another. Or whatever it is. But look, you gotta work on your business, not in it. Many times, people, business owners, in particular, see those five steps ahead. This is not gonna be very politically correct, so you just listen to the story and don't; it's just a story. So it's a made-up story. Jack comes to you, he's been your service technician for two and a half years. You love Jack. He's good. Jack is a bit promiscuous, and you know this, and y'all have talked about it, and whatever, not a big deal. But now the day has come, and Jack has gotten the bartender pregnant. Jack doesn't wanna have a baby with the bartender, the baby, the bartender wants to have the baby, but she's open to talking, right? So Jack's talking to you, the owner. about what to do in your mind as he's telling you this story. You know exactly what's gonna happen if he has that baby or if he doesn't have that baby. His life is gonna change drastically beyond recognition if he has that baby. If he doesn't have that baby, his life may not change. Very much. Again, we're not talking about the moral thing to do here. We're talking about you, the visionary, being able to see those steps ahead, and so now that I've laid that out there for you, that should entirely make sense, but sometimes we have a hard time explaining that to Jack. Hey brother, this is what's gonna happen if you do this. This is what's gonna happen if you do that. And sometimes people don't wanna listen, or maybe we don't explain it right? I'm not sure. But either way, it all comes down to communication, which leads me to how you communicate. Now think about this for I; I'll just tell you a quick story. The other day I was coming into my garage. I was coming home, and I was thinking about it. A conversation my wife and I had about a political issue. I've been thinking about it for about three minutes, so I come in the house as I'm still thinking about it, and I start talking to my wife about this thing. But I start three minutes into the conversation that I've had with myself and my wife's Dude What are you like, what are you talking about? You came in halfway through the exchange. It felt like. . Oh, that's right. You're right. I did. Sorry, I had that other half in my head. Now my wife knows that about me. Your employees don't know that about you. So my point is, how often do you think that happens in your business? How often does the communication fall through the cracks between your CSRs, your customers, and your employees to employees? Like the list goes on and on. Do you get what I'm saying here? Communication is absolute. Is so essential and is the least it's the least focused area where I see most companies. So the 7 38 55 rule, 7% of the words we use in communication affect our communication set. 7% of our communication is the words that we use. 38% of our communication is the tonality that we use. It's the voice inflection, the speeding up, the slowing down, or the late-night DJ voice. You see how that slowed your brain down quickly, and then I moved it quickly. See what I mean? The point is that tonality is really, I. Now imagine when your customer calls and they're in a panic in your CSR or CCR answers the phone; welcome to A plus Plumbing. This is Mary. How can I help you? Which is how she should answer it, right? But then Mary doesn't understand emotional intelligence. Mary Holy My Water and Mary's. Yeah, no problem. Let me get your phone number and see if I can get some information. No. Mary. Mary, I am Miss Mr. Customer. Miss Custer. I am so sorry. I am so sorry that's happened to you. I cannot imagine what you're going through. Do me a favor if you'll slow down for a quick second. Let me get some information because I know this is important. I'm gonna make sure I get somebody out there immediately. But what you want to do with that CSR is train them to slow their voice down because it slows the brain down of the person that you're speaking to. And if you've got a reactive customer on the phone, you want them to calm down because you're gonna have a more accessible call. You're gonna get the information a lot easier, a lot better. Clear. More concise in your CSR or CCR is not gonna be rushed, and they're not gonna make mistakes. This is important. This is exceptionally high-level stuff. Probably should not have gone into it that deep. So if you have questions about that, you'll feel free to reach out. So 55% of our communication is our body language, right? We think about our hands, and we think about our feet or our body, but we don't think about them. Hey, Corey. Your hair looks stupid, right? You can see right then. I don't, I didn't like that comment. Hey, Corey, you look pretty hot Today, right? You can tell dogs can tell by body language when you get upset. Your dog runs under the table. What do you think's happening? He knows, or she knows. Whatever it is, you ain't. And so body language is critical, and when we're talking about this with your service technicians, when they're standing in the house and they've got their hands in their pocket, and they're slouched over and their shirt tails out, what image does that put in your head when I describe it? Not the kind of guy you want in your house, but most of your guys do that. How do I know that? Most of the people I work with, they have to have issues. Is it every one of your guys who know? But do you have guys that do it? Absolutely. You do. Look at the guys that have the crappiest numbers. They're the guys that are not doing their job. It's straightforward. And if you don't know their numbers well, that's ridiculous. And you want 'em to be congruent, right? You want, Here's what I mean by congruency. So if you're a technician, does. Not or CSR doesn't know the answer to a question, please advise them not to lie because the customer knows that you're lying. Say, Mr. Customer, that is a great question. And you know what? I'm relatively new here. I have not ever been asked that question. I can put you on hold quickly, shouldn't take but more than 30 seconds, no more than 30 seconds, or Ms. Jones. If it makes more sense, I can call you back when it's most convenient. But it's all about the delivery. It's all about being honest, and it's just telling the customer where you're at. And if your CSRs are new, train them to tell the freaking customer, Hey, Mr. Customer, I'm a little bit new in this role. Is there any way I could get you to slow down? Just for a quick second? I just wanna make sure that I get everything on this computer. So when the technician gets to your house, there are zero questions about what they need to do to solve your problem. Now, how many people are gonna be upset when you say that? None. That's how many mirrors, right? I explain this to you. You are going to think there's no way this is gonna work. You're also gonna think I'm gonna get caught. Corey, you're also gonna think this sounds crazy. So here's what I want you to do. If you are a service technician, let's pretend I'm the service technician and my alter ego is Bob, right? Bob is gonna start talking, and man, I'm the service technician for a plus plumbing. Bob says, Repeat the last three to five words. The other person. Service technician. The other person said, Question mark Bob. Yeah. Yeah. Allow the customer to tell you more information. More information. Yeah. Yeah. Corey, it makes the customer feel heard and understood. Makes the customer feel heard and understood. Yeah. Yeah. It makes 'em feel like you give a. Do you see what I'm saying? If you, but you gotta do this the right way. And it takes repetition. And it takes practice. But it's something that also gives you the ability to let that person know that you've been heard, they've been heard, your customer. They want to know you're listening to them. Even if you're not listening to them. Repeat the last couple of words, and you'll figure it out. I'm not suggesting that you do that, but if you get caught without anything to say, then you have it. There's an easy way for you to bounce that. In other words, let's just pretend for a second you zone out, right? Like I, I do that from time to time. Zone out or blank out. Y'all caught that earlier. I thought I think and hear you finish the sentence, but I hear those last two to three words. I can repeat those back no matter what I hear. So just remember that. Use that as a safety blanket to be successful. On this next one, we've got, this is what you guys are, a lot of, you all have an asked about Gen Zs and millennials, right? The difference in the years. You can see 97 to 2012 and 81 for millennials to 96. It's a big difference between those generations. If you're the average plumber in North Carolina, you're about 62. 63 years old, you are having trouble identifying with what the younger generation needs and wants because it's very different than what we needed and wanted when we were coming up. And it's great to have gen's ears around your business because they can freshen it up a little. Not make it look so stale. You've been doing the same stuff for 30 years. You can't expect everything to work as it did 30 years ago. But we do think that, right? And it's crazy. And not me; I'll get into the recruiting portion in a minute. So did you know that employees, and by the way, I'm doing this talk just like I did it PHCC Connect. So this first line is screwed up. Employees value training opportunities more than they do the employer. The employer doesn't appreciate training as much as the employee. Is that bizarre or what? We're getting into the younger generation. They value training, they value development, and love. Being a part of a good culture, they value feeling like you care about them. I'll be honest with you, we've seen companies that pay less than others but have a good culture. The money doesn't matter. I know that sounds nuts. Your mind's blown right, and I get that. Because it's weird sounding to think that, to believe that money doesn't matter as much as those other things, but it's true. Check this out. 76% of millennials believe professional development opportunities are the most critical aspects of company culture. So that's important. How is your company culture? When I say company culture, do people look forward? To work for you? Do they love coming to work? Do they look forward? I don't know. But that's a crucial question that you need to ask yourself. All right, so 60, 60% of millennials want. Leadership training. Is that crazy or what? 60% of millennials want leadership training. Four 43% of managers who have been in their roles for less than a year say they've had no training. 43%, 67% of Gen X leaders want more external coaching, and 57% want external development. It's important to pour into your team. Lots of times, that takes having great conversations. Learning more about them as a person, what they like, what they don't like. Virtual training, statistics. Unfortunately, we've all, or fortunately, I know a lot of people that have done, I do most of my coaching virtually, and I do come out to the business sometimes, just depends on what the needs are for the company. Most of my training is done at my house, from my studio, and it works because I can pipe in from Raleigh, North Carolina at any moment and give training to anybody in the United States or outside of the United States right out. Up until a few years ago, that wasn't possible. And now people are getting so used to these things. They prefer having virtual training they can go and look at. So I have my nine steps. I mentioned earlier that I'm an author, and my book is Nine Simple Steps. To sell more shit, and it's on Amazon. And that was a quick little plug not for you to buy the book. I mean you, I would encourage you to buy the book because you're gonna learn something. I don't me getting money off the book, but my point is in telling you about the book, it's got my nine steps in it so you can understand how I take it. The team, through the process, takes a business to a process. But I can adjust that process too, plumbing, HVAC, roofing, and electric. I've done it for all of 'em, right? Doesn't matter. But that would be a good way for you to check out some of my training. And so if I do video right, if I were to provide you with my nine-step, my nine steps in a video format, You could have that information forever to train all your new people, right? Whenever I go into a company and train, I teach I record everything. I record everything anyway, but I ensure that I record everything so that you can go back as the business owner and look at those recordings. That way, you don't have to bring me back and pay me more money to teach you the same. Because I think that's ridiculous. I don't think you should have to do that, but you're not going to have to call me back to do that anyway because I make sure before I leave your business that it's exactly how I told you it was gonna be. I don't do this, come and train for a week or so, and then, you call me back and say, The train's not working and you gotta pay me another bunch of money to come back. I just don't roll like that. But you gotta pay attention to this. You want to pay attention to this if you want to be successful. Enhanced career sites and job postings for Google. What does that mean exactly? If you're posting on Google for Jobs, you wanna make sure that the ad looks different than what everybody else likes. You are not like what everybody else has, right? If you, your ad says, Oh, we great company, long term, highest paid time off, blah, blah, blah, insurance, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Sound like everybody. Your ad stinks. If it sounds like that. If you're wondering why you're not getting anybody, your ad sucks. And so I'm just being honest with you. You gotta talk about what people want, right? Think about this. Whoever you're going after if it's a younger guy that maybe is like, What can you help that guy with? Maybe he's got some credit problems. Maybe you help people with credit repair. Perhaps that's a benefit is, Hey, we'll help you fix your credit if you come to work. . That seems funny, but it ain't that it's not that funny because most people don't know how to fix their credit and that not that particular one won't apply to everybody, but it certainly should give you some ideas of some things that you can do to attract more employees and look, say hiring service tags, right? It drives me nuts when people are not specific about what they want. because if you're not specific about what you want, you're gonna have to be happy with what you get. So creating compelling and meaningful content. So what does this mean? This means that you want to create content that's gonna attract the people that you're looking for.   Millennials and the Gen Zs   Now, let's just stay with the millennials and the Gen Zs because they'll help your business continue after you die or retire. Otherwise, the company is gonna go with you. My point in bringing that up is if you're creating content on social media, is it attractive? Is it? Do you look cool, that is, and I'm gonna get to that next. I think it's the next slide. But you want to make sure that the people that are looking at your pages, your social media pages, cuz let's just be honest, that is where people are looking. For your company. They're not looking on job boards. They're not looking at Monster. They're not looking on Indeed. They're not looking there, dude. That's where all the unemployed people are. What you need to look for are employed people, and I'm not suggesting that you go still,, other employees. What I am suggesting is you don't have to hire people. Oh man, I got way off track. You don't have to hire people in the same industry. You could pull the restaurant and make them an HVAC sales tech all day long if you train them. And they could be amazing. There are guys out there right now that are doing that. I see it all the time, and they're crushing it because those folks don't have bad habits. What is, What is your company stand? Does it have any, do you talk about diversity and inclusion? Do you talk about culture training and social response? Do y'all do anything? I'll tell you Rhino Marketing, Christiano and Chris all once a month, his whole team, they spend one Friday away from the office, and they donate that time to clean up the road or whatever. Some kind of. Social responsibility because it lets your team know that you care about something more than just the money they're bringing in. And even if you don't care about anything other than the money coming in, you need to because people are starting to get tired of that. People want more from you, and you've gotta give it to 'em. If you wanna, keep it. Or you can just keep doing things the way you've been doing them and keep getting the things that you keep calling; if you're the one saying, I can't find people, then why are you not doing something different? Listen, if you train now, just think about this for a second, okay? If you train your technicians to sell better, they'll make more money, right? If you train your CSRs to sell better, they're gonna make more money, right? Maybe not in the current situation, but if you work with B, that's how it's gonna go. You want to incentivize these two areas to bring in more sales. If you're playing paying them a flat rate, 20 bucks an hour for a csr, whatever it is, you're gonna get 20 bucks an hour's worth of work. But if you pay 'em $18 an hour with a spiff that they can make $28 an hour, now you've got an employee that's all about you, and they're all about your company, and they're all about your brand, and that is a raving employee that is your hiring team. Think about this. If you've got the employee that I just described, That you're pouring into them, you're, you've got somebody like me that comes in and trains those CSRs every week, trains technicians every week, and holds their hand and helps them with the things that they struggle with. Who's the hero here, Bro, You win. You win. You make the money. If you have happy employees, you win. But your ego is not your amigo. And so if you put that amigo, that ego to the side, cuz people want to help you, but you just gotta be open to getting that help. This is cool. I think this is cool. Like use text recruiting, use the lowest. Of interaction that you can use. The least friction you can have between you and that new employee is the difference between whether they're your new employee or not. If you can make it simple for them to apply for your company, do that. Oh, but Corey, that's just lazy. They need to fill out an application. No, they don't stop thinking the old; you don't have to do things the way you've always done them. You don't. Make it easy for 'em. At the end of the day, they're gonna follow your rules when they get there anyway. Who cares how they get there? Focus on the important things. And guess what? Gen Zs grew up with technology like we didn't. So not only will these people bring fresh, new ideas, but they're gonna bring technology, and know how to use it. And guess what? That's massively valuable for you. because technology's a struggle for you and me. Sometimes technology makes me wanna pull my freaking hair out, and I know for a fact you feel the same way. I love having some young person around me that knows how to do this stuff way quicker than me because, quite frankly, I'd rather be that way. I hate messing with it. I shouldn't say I hate messing with it. I just don't enjoy it. But anyway, the point. Bring these new people in because they can bring the new ideas and they can tell you how to do 'em. It really does work to your advantage and so I hope you guys are enjoying this so far. Showcase diversity in your employer branding. Like first of all, your branding needs to be the same across all your social platforms, right? If it's an A plus garage door, a garage door, Then it needs to be A plus garage door across the board. And all of your logos need to be the same, and they need to be eye-catching. They need to be excellent. You want to make sure that you stand out. If you don't stand out. I'll give you a quick example, John Jordan, here in Raleigh, North Carolina, owns a Comfort Monster company. And his con, his van has a big old purple comfort monster on it.   Social Media   He looks ridiculous, but you can't miss it. And it was just, it was a brilliant move for him, in my opinion. Use social media to showcase the brand, right? If you're not on social media and you're not talking about your company, why not? That's crazy, right? You're the newer people coming into the trades. They're all on social media, every one of them. And I know that you may not be that keen on social media. You don't have to be, but you must bring somebody in. That can be because you are gonna get left in the dust. Look, think about Roger Wakefield, right? Roger Wakefield's, a buddy of mine. Roger and I, Roger's been on my podcast. We've spoken on the same stages. Roger is just like you if you're a plumber, except for Roger. Turned the camera around and decided he was going to. Start filming himself doing plumbing jobs. Now he makes God knows how much money without doing a thing every month. How would you like to be that guy? I think that sounds pretty cool. Implement an employee referral program. So one of the highly successful things is that I've learned. Is, I'll give you one quick example. We implemented a massage program. I had the company, I had owner sign up for a monthly massage program where they get a massage once a month. The CSRs got every so that you could buy additional massages once a week. So it started once a month and then worked so well that they started doing this contest. How many could call, and book rate a bunch of KPIs? And then they moved it to every week. So now, these girls, mostly girls, have a chance to win a freaking massage every week. Most of these girls hadn't even ever had a massage. How cool is that? It's awesome. And guess what? Young people like stuff like it's $59 a month. That is peanuts. If she did it once a week, that's still what? 59 plus? Who cares? 250 bucks a month. You have no idea what this will do because your employees will then tell all of their friends. I just got back from a massage that my boss gave me because I kicked ass this week. How about that? It's pretty dope. I'm telling you right now, these ideas are the ones that are winning, period. So you wanna provide development guidance? For these folks. Listen, guys have grown up in a time like you and I have not. They've seen 2008, they've seen the pandemic, they've seen fricking global climate. Whatever change they've seen, look around. It's a wild time right now and people are confused, especially our younger folks are confused. They don't know what the heck is going on. The last part of this, I'm gonna say, if you want to attract good people, then you need to be attractive. What does that mean, Corey? Get your branding squared away. Make sure it looks amazing. Make sure your trucks are clean. Make sure your guys are dressed well. Make sure when people see a plus plumbing, That they want to go work there. Dang dude, look at that guy's outfit. I don't know what they're doing over there, but I wanna check that out. Look how clean their trucks are and look at my truck. They must be doing something different over there. Yeah, they're doing something different. They're acting like normal people. What's your dating profile? I think this is a funny question and you probably think Corey, that is a ridiculous question, but really. if you were gonna put yourself, imagine for a second, if you had to go out back on the market, right? Imagine if you had to go back out on the dating scene you wouldn't have much choice but to create a do of a dating profile, right? If you wanna move this thing faster, you're gonna put the best looking picture of you, the skinnies picture of you. The hottest picture of you in that dating profile. Why? Cause you wanna attract top talent. You wanna attract the best freaking people and you know that if you put that picture of you 20 pounds heavier on there, you're gonna attract 20 pounds heavier guy. I know my voice got a little bit elevated cuz I get a little bit animated about this because, and when I say all that, You realize how crazy it sounds that you're not doing these things. You are courting people to become your employees. People are watching you, they're watching your social media, they're watching your business. They're watching your company. They're watching what other people say. They watch your reviews. If you got crappy reviews, bro, that's why you're not getting people to give you any good legitimate opportunities for work. Nobody wants to work for a company that's got crappy reviews. Who? Think about that. I'm not gonna sign up for a company that's got crappy reviews. Does the job posting I mentioned earlier, does it look like everybody else probably make it different? You want to be different because being different is gonna afford you. The opportunity to be successful. And listen, here's what I want you to think about. I understand that a lot of times it's hard to make decisions. I understand that it's hard because you've built this business and it's hard to ask. It's hard to bring somebody in and let them hold your baby without you knowing what's gonna. And I know it's nerve-wracking, and I know it makes you feel uncomfortable, and I understand that because I've been there, except I didn't call for help. I didn't call in another set of eyes. I tried to do everything myself for the sake of the business and to save money. That second business you saw at the first of this program, a brand new UMD, was a hormone. a testosterone clinic that I opened. It was my clinic partner, and I'm like many of you. I tried to do everything myself and only knew a portion of that business. I didn't know how to run a business like many of you, I ran it into the ground because I felt like I didn't deserve to bring in outside help. Who do I think I am hiring outside help when I can do this stuff? Huh. I think I'm high and mighty. Yeah. Who's high and mighty now? when I walked away with nothing. Right now. That was several years, four years ago in 2018. But I'm gonna tell you right now, I don't want you to go through that. I do not want you to go through that. Cause it is not fun. And it's not fun rebuilding. And I see a lot of the same mistakes get made. and it breaks my heart because I know that if you just had a little bit more information, you could make some better choices and those choices could positively drive your business. And maybe you wouldn't have to stress out every single weekend about whether or not you're getting calls on Monday. And maybe you wouldn't have to stress out every week or every month about how you're gonna make payroll or maybe every two weeks who know? It is what it is. I'm not gonna tell you anything that's gonna make you change your mind. And I'm not saying that you've gotta hire me for this. By no means am I saying that? I do educate and develop service technicians and ccrs or CSRs customer service representatives in plumbing and HVAC companies because I'm good at it and I know exactly what to say. I know exactly how to get them to move differently. and I also know how to uncover at least 20% of the revenue you're leaving on the table. At the end of the day, here's what's gonna happen. You're gonna hire me, and it's not gonna cost you a dime because I'm gonna make you so much more money than what you ever have to pay me. That the fee that you pay me is not even a thought. And I think that's how all companies should operate, but. , I'm confident in what I do because I have, I've got the record to prove it. I know my stuff works, and your stuff works. But when your guys and your guys know your stuff works, when they're not confident about what they're talking about price-wise and what they're talking about, what the sales process, all that fantastic knowledge of what they have. It's Nolan void because they sound like an idiot at the end of the sale because they don't know, they've not been trained, and that's really on you, the owner. That's not on them, and that's also not fair to them. Equip your guys with successful tools so they can go out there and close deals for you and make you money. Don't be so hardheaded. So that last part was not in my c speech. I did get a little off track. I just speak from my heart, and that's it. If you'd like me to do my secret shopper process on you, which is on your company, just let me know. All you have to do is you can just send me a text message at 9 1 9 8 9 6 9 9 9 9, or you can just you got the barcode scan. , but go check me out. And then the last thing that I'll tell you is this. I give anybody in the phcc specifically; if you're a member of the c, I give you a special rate. And so you want to reach out to me about that because I'm happy to help you. And I promise you, this is gonna cost you $0. How much sense would it make for you to pay me and then not make money? How long do you think I'm gonna be in business doing that? Not very long. All right. I laid it on thick at the end of my sales pitch, so I apologize in advance for that. But I need you to understand how important this is. All right. We'll see you guys later. Thank you so much. I appreciate it if you took anything away from this podcast. Make sure you subscribe, leave a review, and go check out some other episodes on the Successful Life Podcast

Quran in English
The power of the Pen / writing

Quran in English

Play Episode Listen Later Sep 24, 2022 0:38

Writing is power. Qalam/ قلم / the pen / is the title of this sura. It reminds me of the first sura that was sent (اقراء. Iqraa. Read.) Allah through his words in the Quran wants people to read and write. Knowledge/ learning/ asking questions/ looking for answers / يتفكرون / يتدبرون/. The style in this sura is beautiful : each verse ends with either a letter N or M. 52 verses that have a pattern , style , tone. God swears by the pen in this sura and what is written. That the prophet is not a mad man as his tribe called him -out of jealousy. ( they questioned why was Mohammed the orphan chosen and not one of them, his cousins.) God tells the prophet not to worry what they say( they will come to know the truth ) the prophet is blessed with never ending rewards and that he has strong character. So dear readers/ listeners : How do we read the Quran and link it into our daily lives? The Pen and the message to the prophet. )Well when it talks to the prophet it also talks to us , all his followers and even the non followers. -A message for all people -verse 52 (Since God's words have meaning and power beyond time and space.)Did you know the first thing God created was the pen! First it was the written then it was created . So writing is held high in the Quran as well as reading. So Today take 10 minutes of your time to write to yourself and make it a daily activity. Write about your past or your present or write about your future. Jot down your thoughts. This will build character and clear your mind. with time you will have a strong character and (come to know they self) God bless you with ease , wisdom and happiness.

We're all about Bringing that Practical edge to Spirituality at the Awakened state. So Today's throwback is an oldie but goodie on some of the easiest ways we can start to apply spiritual principles and spiritual awakening back to our daily lives. As a society we are connection starved, we obsess over social media and we tend to view Spirituality as something separate from the real world. In this focus we tend to separate Physical Reality from our Spiritual Identity forgetting our basis nature that Life itself is Spiritual. I began to notice this pattern come up with myself and others where we have this escapist mentality of how we are treating the Spiritual and the physical. We tend to overcomplicate this issue when it literally doesn't have to be so hard. We tend to make it much harder than it is. What we strive for is Alignment. So I began noticing this amazing process, we must honor The Mind-Body Connection. This most definitely includes how we are treating spirituality with our bodies and our connection to the physical world. As we strip back these layers - The answer becomes obvious we are starved for connection and alignment. Therefore I began to Question: " What if I did the opposite? What If I started applying these principles into my daily life?" The tides started to shift. Why? Because I began honoring the mind-body connection. Minimalism in Real Life - Solo Talk Shwetha Krish - PD20

Hello, So Today it is me alone talking about Minimalism! “If one's life is simple, contentment has to come. Simplicity is extremely important for happiness. Having few desires, feeling satisfied with what you have, is very vital: satisfaction with just enough food, clothing, and shelter to protect yourself from the elements.” -The Dalai Lama, 1935. Minimalism is about prioritizing what is of value to you and that which is adding to your quality of life. That could mean discarding unwanted things, abusive relationships and unnecessary activities. What are we presently doing? We seem to be always in a rush to make more money, hoard the best stuff, get the modern gadgets, embrace a modern lifestyle as per the societal needs. Being glued to television sets, mobile phones and digital media platforms is the new norm and we seldom make raw human interactions / conversations with other people. We may unconsciously hoard non-essential possessions or get into relationships on a whim, involve in activities which are not adding value to your life and also get into debts for securing a future we haven't seen! In the process of expansion(which we see as Happiness) we are limiting to see and perceive the essentials of our life. To be happy, all one needs is some food, water, shelter, clothing, loving relationships and certain activities which bring out the best in you(well this could be debatable as to how much is enough). Minimalism In Real Life In the past year, I came face to face with Minimalism In Real Life. I attended a residential program which had certain protocols of having just the essentials for a 7 month stay. This brought out the best in me: I spent very little time in figuring out what to wear(as I hardly had 8-10 pair of clothing and just the bare essentials). Fortunately, I spent less time thinking.Well, I mostly thought about the activity I was doing at the moment. There was no aimless and unnecessary thinking / brooding. I gave myself completely to the activity that I was doing at that moment. This helped me to focus better and I was least bothered about the results. Well, naturally with utter focus and no distraction the results are bound to turn out good. I spent time on activities and events which were of immense help to the community at large. Consciously, I hardly spent any time on social media platforms, OTT platforms, Television. This has made me to look at life in a different perspective. To be grateful everyday for what I have; be it relationships, certain possessions and most importantly being alive is something which makes me feel truly alive in each moment! Continual Process Minimalism is not just an attitude, it is a way of life. It is not a one-time thing that you finish off and be done with. It is a continual process of consciously learning and making an effort to bring Minimalism into your life; be it at your work, home, relationships, activities and most importantly within yourself! Implementing Minimalism at Home, Office, Relationships, Activities, usage of Social Media / TV / OTTs, Community Building Benefits of Minimalism You can follow me on on the below handles: Pinterest- https://in.pinterest.com/ShwethaCKrish/ Instagram- https://www.instagram.com/shwethackrish/ LinkedIn- https://www.linkedin.com/in/shwethakrish/ YouTube- https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCq4UdnW6j1PCI4SYzbAmAGQ Website- https://shwethakrish.com

Hello, So Today it is me alone talking about Life Appraisal! We often tend to neglect and taking account of our life and where we stand on our personal growth meter. Start now and Appraise your Life. First question to ask yourself is “Am I happy?” If not list down the reasons as to what is stopping you to be happy? Second question – “Am I in the best state of body and mind?” If not list down the reasons as to what is stopping you Third questions- “Am I providing something of value to others be it in work or in your family or relationships?” If not list down the reasons as to what is hindering you Fourth question- “Am I willing to take care of my wellbeing so that I can live life to the fullest which would in turn help in fostering better family relationships and also create better opportunities for myself in terms of work and passion?” If yes, then list down the steps or a plan or simply put down tentative schedule for a day then a week then a month then a year. You could do this exercise every day before you sleep. Or you could do it weekly or monthly or yearly but it is important to take account of your life and also whether are you growing as a person which is the most important thing which we often neglect? Well, it is left upto you to decide on how you want to take care of your wellbeing. If leaving your job for a while is not the answer, try to indulge in wellbeing- Yoga, Cycling, Painting, Dancing every day. Make sure they become a part of your lifestyle. Also, try to inculcate your passions that you love to do. You never know when your passion could become your vocation for life. Make it work along with your current job, once you are able to make it financially or commercially viable then plan to quit your job if you are not happy with it. Then of course plan and hustle hard with your passion as long as it makes you happy and you are able to provide something beneficial for others. It is your Life, live the way you want to. Life is so beautiful and all you need is a clear perception and understanding of Life. That can happen only when you turn inward and stop worrying about the external world. I would like to leave you with one question- Would your life be worth if you had all the money, achievements and materialistic things but don't have health and zest in life to enjoy it? Or would you rather be hale and hearty each day of your life no matter the situation as long as you are creating something which is beneficial for others? Happy New Year to you all! May you delve into the inner journey and become better versions of yourselves to make a better world! FIVE LESSONS LEARNED FROM HOSTING THIS PODCAST  Today is a special day.  Today I share the FIVE LESSONS LEARNED FROM HOSTING THIS PODCAST!  Today marks the 50th episode of Your Anxiety Toolkit Podcast.   I get a little sentimental during this one, but please stick with me. Let me start by saying that I am so grateful for reaching 50 episodes.  When I started this podcast, in my pjs in my kitchen with my sleeping baby next to me as I recorded my first episode, never in my wildest dreams could imagine what it would become.   From this podcast came CBTSchool.com, and from CBT school came a community that I could never have imagined. So Today, on this 50th episode, I celebrate YOU!    And, today I want to talk to you about what I have learned and a few of my favorite quotes that I live by (and I promise this will apply to you). In this episode, I share 5 lessons learned by hosting this podcast and I have lived by as I hosted this podcast.  I have to be honest.  I have learned SO much and I cannot wait to share the lessons with you.  I won't pretend it has all been easy.  It hasn't.  There was a couple of time that this podcast nearly didn't get made.   And, there were quite a few times it was made OVER AND OVER!  All I can say is that I am so grateful for your support and compassion as I bumped along. If you missed last weeks episode 49 The Content of Your Thoughts Are Not Important Thank you again for supporting me with this podcast and with CBT Schools online courses.  Please click here to find out more about Mindfulness School for OCD.
