In this episode, Christian Armstrong and I talk about what life was like for him being diagnosed with Autism as a young child, being told he could never do the things that he wanted to do… specifically play sports or be a normal kid. Christian made the decision that even though his brain was different he was not going to let stereotypes and labels define who he would become! Christian Armstrong was Diagnosed with autism back in 2001, with doctors setting very low expectations for how much Christian could achieve in his lifetime. From the starting position of not speaking to his own family or classmates back in elementary school, he is now speaking on stages and inspiring people across the country. Christian's story empowers students, teachers, athletes, coaches, and people of all ages; demonstrating that no hurdle or obstacle is too big to overcome. I am your host, Marci Nettles. I have had a lifetime of opportunities where I had the choice to Breakdown or Breakthrough. It is my hope this Podcast may become your light in the darkness, as you listen to the stories of people I consider “heroes.” Each one had a point where they too had to choose to either Breakdown or Breakthrough! Working from home, with my husband/business partner, helping people around the world find new levels of success in their health and wellness, is part of what makes me tick! TRIGGER WARNING WITH THE CONTEXT IN THIS EPISDOE(PLEASE BE ADVISED WITH TALKING POINTS AND READ CAREFULLY) There are a lot of trigger warnings in this episode. Bek Lover was born in the USA after his mother's family was hunted down by the communist regime in Albania because his grandfather was an anti-communist fighter. His father fled the oppression that occurred in the now, non-existent country of, Yugoslavia, now the Republic of Kosova. Bek Lover has lost a lot of people in his lifetime, from various situations, including the Kosovo War, in 1999. He lost 30 people in a single day when they were massacred by the Serbian Military. He also was present during, the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Center! Bek Lover, uses his struggles, life experiences, and his connections to inspire people to never give up!. The best way to help others is to share what we know about this life through our own experiences. After getting back up, over and over, it is now, Bek Lover's mission, to help other people, get back up.. to make a ComeBack! Stereotypes that we have to deal with in life? In this week's episode of Life After Cheer, I talk with Bridget Case! Bridget is a sports journalist turned Twitch streamer who uses her platform to advocate for mental health. She's a former pro cheerleader for the NFL and the sports anchor for NBC and CBS station affiliates. Today, we crush those cheerleader stereotypes! Tune in for quite the conversation! In this episode, we talk about the following:[05:38] We're so much more than the cheerleader, so much more than the professional dancer; there are so many more layers to us as human beings.[23:31] When you're trying to get a job, be yourself - say what you want to say, don't say things that you think others want to hear.[31:41] Sometimes, when you are so focused on creating that niche, you can lose who you are, and your passion for what you are doing; more people need to say, "screw the niche. I will be me, "and that's what you're coming for.CONNECT WITH BRIDGET:Website: https://beacons.ai/bridgetcase Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/bridgetcase_/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/bridgetcase_ Tiktok: https://www.tiktok.com/@bridgetcase?lang=en LINKS:Apply now to get CHEERFIT Certified: cheerfittraining.com/getcertifiedNot part of the SQUAD yet? Revealing your sexual orientation or gender identity, be it lesbian, gay, bi-sexual or transgender, can be an extremely daunting prospect. It takes a lot of courage, especially coming out to your parents. Many also fear how their friends and society will respond. Homosexuality is normal, and needs to be normalized. It is not a mental illness or a disease. We all have the right to choose whom we wish to marry and spend the rest of our lives with, and we should be able to do so without fear of being ridiculed. On this week's episode, host Zarina Poonwalla, Founder of Abbzoh Expertise Unique, Performance Coach and Motivational Speaker is joined by TEDx speaker and Queer Influencer - R Balaji. Bala, who likes to refer to himself as 'Bala Girl'. He shares his story of being gay, coming out to those closest to him, finding a support system in his mother, the struggles he faced during his school life and some extremely motivational people that he met who changed his destiny. The conversation also touches upon cross-dressing, homophobia, bullying and how one should accept their identity with pride. I talk about stereotypes and media perceives POC (people of color). I briefly talk about my experience with white people and other POC as well. I talk about things that black nerds can relate to and understand. This episode is about thinking outside of our social circles and biases; thinking beyond the media's perception of people whether based on race, ethnicity, or sexual orientation.
