¿Cardio o fuerza? ¿Bici o pesas? ¿Barra y discos o clubbells?

A Middle Tennessee Business Podcast....subscribe/follow/rate/review at www.mmtbp.comThe Mostly Middle Tennessee Business Podcast went remote in a *very* mostly way. We were invited to have a booth at the Music City Drum Show and talk to several drummers, entrepreneurs and manufacturers about the various facets of the music business. In this episode, I sat down with April Samuels with Breast Cancer can STICK It, and she's a musical entrepreneur of the highest degree!April picked up her first pair of sticks at age five at Nadine's Music Manor and was enthralled in private drum lessons at the same store by the age of 11 studying under former Bo Diddley/Ice Capades/Fifth Dimension drummer Warren White. April navigated her teens by playing in garage bands with her guitarist brother, Todd. Later, she expanded her study when she majored in music at the University of North Texas. As she developed her musical style, April co-wrote several songs used in episodes on the show "Outward Bound" on the Discovery Channel. April has since performed, recorded and/or written with 30+ different groups including an album with Matthew Johnson (formerly of Great White), two groups with David Harbour (formerly of Michael Harris, David T. Chastain, King Diamond), two groups with Dave Hineman (formerly of Solinger) and a group with Joey C. Jones.Since 2012 (aside from a year hiatus from April 2021-June 2022) Samuels has performed up to 120 shows a year across Texas and Louisiana with the 80s spoof-hair-band Metal Shop under the pseudonym "Crash Gordon" . Highlights during her tenure included headlining multiple times at the House of Blues locations in Dallas, Houston and New Orleans, as well as playing for over 15,000 attendees at a San Antonio Spurs watching game at AT&T Center.April's musical interests don't stop there. She ran a booking agency, 100 Proof Entertainment from 1989-2010, where she booked over 50 different regional bands - handling as many bands as 13 at one time. Because of this interest, she attended several seminars, exhibits, and music industry functions through the Dallas Songwriters Association, Austin Songwriters Group, South by Southwest the Sony R&B Workshop, and NAMM to name a few.April has also worked for Planet Dallas Studios (Dallas, TX) in the Publishing Department, worked as a salesperson for Texas Beat Magazine (Austin, TX), and was the assistant booking agent for the former club, The Basement (Dallas, TX).Currently, Samuels plays full-time with Metal Shop as well as Rebel Yell - The Tribute to Billy Idol, is the touring drummer for Just Like P!nk - The P!NK Experience, plays with two original bands (49th Vibration and her recently revived band BULLITT originally established in 2006), as well as playing fundraisers with her cover band, The Breast Cancer Can Stick It! Band. April was diagnosed with a rare, aggressive form of breast cancer in 2010 and immediately combined her passion for drums with her personal fight against cancer by founding her nonprofit organization Breast Cancer Can Stick It! Foundation, Inc.. April has been cancer-free since her mastectomy in November of 2010. Through performing shows, collaborating with celebrities for fundraisers, guest appearances and speaking events, April rocks year round both behind and in front of the drums.Follow April:https://www.aprilsamuels.com/https://www.breastcancercanstic

Two Shost Podcast Ep.137 - What are the Spurs chances of getting a top pick in the NBA draft after losing the coin toss? On this episode of the Two Shots Podcast, we will be joined by Paul Garcia host of the Spurscast, and Benjamin Bornstein who is a writer for Project Spurs. We will discuss the San Antonio Spurs being approved to play three games away from the AT&T Center and what this means for the team's future here in San Antonio. The Spurs organization looks to expand its brand beyond San Antonio and into Mexico as the city council approved the team to play three games away from the At&t Center for the upcoming 2023-24 season. Paul Garica, Ben Borstein, and I will also talk about Spurs Sports and Entertainment released a timeline for their massive $500 million practice facility that is set to open in August of 2023, with a ribbon cutting ceremony to be held in September. The center will be open to the public in October and the Spurs restaurant that is not expected to open until January 2025. Spurs fans can now rest assured that their team is here to stay in San Antonio and can look forward to having access to a new practice facility. RC Buford, the General Manager of the Spurs, has reassured fans that the team will not be moving to Austin, and has made it clear that the Spurs are committed to its San Antonio home. With the Spurs losing the coin toss to the Houston Rockets the team will now finish with the third-worst record in the NBA but how does this affect the team's chances of landing that number one pick in the upcoming NBA Draft? Well, honestly losing the coin toss was not that big of a deal as both the Spurs, Rockets and Pistons all still have a 14% chance of landing that coveted top pick. The worst the Spurs could do is fall to that 7th spot in the NBA Draft but the odds of that happening are 7%. The Spurs have better odds of getting that 5th spot at 14.8% than landing the 1st overall pick by only a few percentage points. We will discuss the team's percentages in more detail on this episode of the Two Shots Podcast. Did you see the latest Spurs merchandise labeled La Cultura that was made available to the fans this week? It's a blend of the culture of the Alamo City with Aqua Frescas and a bit of the Fiesta theme along with a Spurs Coyote Pinata. From T-Shirts to Caps, this limited edition merchandise is always a fan favorite here in San Antonio. We will discuss the pricing for the La Cultura merchandise as T-Shirts start at $39.99 and Caps at $34.99 are these prices too high? In San Antonio, you can go to the Southside or any local Flea Market and buy a bootleg T-Shirt for about $10.00 - $15.00 that will look just as good if not better. We will discuss this and end the show by talking to Paul about his latest episode of the Spurscast as he Collin Reid will be Breaking Down The Team Salary Going Into The Off Season. Several athletes testified during victim impact statements in 2018 that over the course of Nassar’s more than two decades of sexual abuse they told adults what was happening, including athletic trainers, and it went unreported. The Hurt Business

During this discussion, we talk about possibly the worst scorecard that we've seen in boxing history that occurred during the Jermell Charlo-Brian Castano unification bout that took place here at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas. We also talk about other fights that occurred like Rolando Romero vs Anthony Yigit, Miesha Tate vs Marion Reneau, and Islam Makhachev vs Thiago Moises.

On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman once again spoke with our colleague Chris Baldwin on the WAAR Room on Angry Afro Radio. A video of this discussion has also been posted on the Angry Afro Radio YouTube page. We spoke with her Sunday, July 18. There was an attempt on Saturday, July 17, to unify the four major belts in boxing's 154-pound division, as unbeaten fighters and belt holders Jermell Charlo and Brian Castaño fought in the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas, headlining a card shown on Showtime in the U.S. After 12 rounds, the consensus seemed to be among boxing observers online that it was a good, close fight, but that Castaño had done enough to win. The verdict, however, was a split draw. While many people accepted this decision since there were many close rounds and no fighter blew out the other, the score of one of the judges of 117-111 for Charlo was so ludicrous that Charlo himself even said it was too wide. Both Charlo and Castaño said after the fight that they would welcome a rematch, but boxing's absurd system of multiple sanctioning bodies which each have their own mandatory challengers might prevent or delay that from happening any time soon, if ever. The result was that there was an entertaining main event on an entertaining card, where the entertainment was ruined by the judging and overall lack of good governance in boxing. We thus discussed this fight in this context of examining boxing's governance, how the general issue of governance is rarely discussed in boxing, how bad governance has been a major factor in boxing's decline, and what good governance constitutes. We also discussed new alternative forms of organizations for pro sports that are emerging, why sports organizations must work outside existing structures like the disgraceful International Olympic Committee, and much, much more. Following a slog in which the San Antonio Spurs (hopefully) hit rock bottom, The Big Fundamental Podcast examines what went wrong. Was this 3-7 stretch a factor of fatigue, injuries, bad luck -- or maybe a combination of several things? Plus, LaMarcus Aldridge's absence and subsequent buyout seemed to signal a pivot for the Silver & Black, yet instead of fully committing to the youth movement, the team is sticking to its guns, playing vets Patty Mills and Rudy Gay over guys like Luka Samanic and Devin Vassell. The pod addresses why that's been the case and whether that will change as the season progresses. The team now has to become road warriors, with 17 of their remaining 25 games outside the not-so-friendly confines of the AT&T Center, but is that a good thing for a team who's biggest strength might be their camaraderie? It's all in the latest episode of The Big Fun Pod.
