Welcome to the One Hundred & Forty-Fifth Edition of The Chronicles Of Podcast, These are The Chronicles of Jim Vallance In this exclusive interview with legendary songwriter Jim Vallance, we dive deep into his incredible journey through the world of music. Jim shares stories from his youth, where his passion for music was ignited by The Beatles, and talks about his early days with the band Prism. We explore his fascinating song writing process and hear unforgettable stories from his collaborations with iconic artists like Aerosmith, KISS, and Heart. Jim gives us the inside scoop on how Heart's smash hit "What About Love?" came to be and his long time partnership with Bryan Adams, including the creation of timeless classics like "Summer of 69." Also this week, Jamie and Tom dive into the chaos of everyday life, starting with the infamous phrase "traffic is a nightmare" – but do we really dream about it? Tom hilariously compares Peppa Pig to the Demon Headmaster, and the boys dissect the brand new 'Heinz Pickled Onion Monster Munch Mayonnaise.' Spoiler alert: of course Jamie bought it! Tom also tells us about his 'headphone milk bottle lid trick' that literally no one saw coming. The lads catch up on their week, including Jamie's experience taking his son to his first-ever gig—Cannibal Corpse, no less—and Tom updates us on his undefeated streak in his NFL fantasy football league. As always, there's plenty of audience interaction. This week, Jamie's audience participation challenge asks you to answer: what song would you delete from existence? Plus, Tom brings more laughs with his collection of funny finds from around the internet in Tom's Journal. Unfortunately, there are no Callum's Teachings this week—but don't worry, the laughs keep coming! His career began in earnest when a young John Elefante auditioned as the new lead singer and keyboardist for Kansas, in 1981. That year, the band was one of the top-grossing concert acts in the world and Elefante had never been in a band apart from his family. Although several of the top vocalists of the day applied for the job (e.g. Sammy Hagar, Doug Pinnick, Jim Stafford), Elefante received the part.Elefante sang the lead vocals and performed keyboards on two Kansas albums. He was also a major songwriting contributor (along with lead guitarist/keyboardist/songwriter Kerry Livgren). On 1982's Vinyl Confessions, he co-wrote and sang the No. 4 Billboard Mainstream Rock hit, "Play the Game Tonight". He also wrote the acoustic-based classic "Chasing Shadows", along with the Top 40 single, "Right Away". The next year, on the following album, Drastic Measures, he wrote the early MTV favorite, "Fight Fire with Fire", which remains the band's highest charting single at No. 3 (Mainstream Rock) as well as a staple of Kansas' live shows to this day. Elefante was also responsible for "Everybody's My Friend," which was released as the second single from the album and reached No. 34 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart.Around this time the band began to buckle under the increasing strain of maintaining the consistent radio hits and record company commercial expectations. In addition, contemporary pop music was quickly becoming antithetical to the band's organic, sophisticated aesthetic. A new age of sequenced synthesizers and drum machines confronted Kansas with the near-impossible challenge of maintaining their musical essence and commercial integrity. In 1984, on the retrospective collection The Best of Kansas, Elefante wrote the album's one new track, "Perfect Lover". That same year Elefante, Kerry Livgren, and Dave Hope left Kansas. In 1985, "Young and Innocent" appeared on the soundtrack to St. Elmo's Fire and was credited to "Elefante" as a collaborative effort by brothers John and Dino Elefante.1985–1989Elefante discovered another calling while still with Kansas—record producer. In 1984, he produced Perfect Timing for ground-breaking Southern California group, Sweet Comfort Band. While not a major commercial success, Petra's Back to the Street was a Grammy-nominated, breakthrough, commercial success for both Elefante and the band. He also contributed songwriting, keyboards, background vocals and engineering to the effort. With both John and Dino Elefante as the band's primary producers, Petra's already popular Christian pop/rock niche was given a timely boost. Their accolades include multiple gold albums, 10 consecutive CCM Magazine Reader's Choice Awards, induction into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame and Hard Rock Cafe, and the only artist to ever have four albums in the SoundScan top-100 Christian chart. In 1987 while producing a various artists album called California Metal, the album's production team of John and Dino Elefante ended up one track short and they decided to add a song written for Kansas called "Wasn't It Love" (originally entitled "What About Love") under the name Mastedon. Regency later requested a full-length album which became Mastedon's debut, It's a Jungle Out There.Closing out the decade, Elefante had produced five major label albums, and performed on 12. Over the next five years, Elefante worked at an almost frenetic pace as one of the most in-demand producers in Nashville. In addition to Petra's further releases, he worked as the producer on 30 other albums. He usually performed on the releases as well, often sharing songwriting credits, as well. Elefante was committed to his role as producer, eschewing other opportunities such as an offer to replace Bobby Kimball as lead singer for Grammy winners, Toto.

Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Nancy Wilson rose to fame as the guitarist of Heart, the first hard rock band fronted by women. With hits like “Magic Man” and “Crazy On You” to “These Dreams” and “What About Love?” Wilson and her sister Ann, Heart's lead singer, sold more than 35 million records and along the way, changed perceptions of who can lead a hard rock band. In this episode, Nancy and host Ken Womack talk about the early days of Heart, the songwriting craft behind some of their most iconic tracks, her recent tribute to Eddie Van Halen, and how the Beatles inspired her to pick up a guitar — “We weren't looking to marry them or date them, we wanted to be them” — sparking the passion for rock and roll that would carry her through her storied career. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/everythingfabfour/support

A podcast listener (accurately) noted that I don’t talk too much about love.  The listener wanted to just get back to the love they had shared at one time, and wanted to know how to fall back in love. I responded with, “What do you mean by ‘love’?”  The response started with “I don’t know,” and continued with “but how do we fall back in love?" And there is the root of the problem.  We have been struggling to define and describe what love even is for centuries, if not millennia.  And we are still trying. More than that, the loving feeling is not what you really are trying to return to.  It is certainly a side-effect, but not what you want to try for. And more than that, love is not even a clear indicator of marital success — maybe because it is so hard to define and describe. In this episode of the Save The Marriage Podcast, I talk the question, “What About Love?”  Where does it fit into your efforts to save your marriage?  Where does it fit into any marriage? What About Love ? 1 Corinthians 13: 1-7 13 If I speak in the tongues[a] of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast,[b] but do not have love, I gain nothing. 4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. This passage is usually shared at weddings and at important family gatherings. Today we want to look at this scripture from the perspective of our everyday Christ walk. Love endures. This means : Love is forever, its not for a season, for a time. It does not expire. Love will wait and wait and wait. Love is not self-seeking: It’s not because you someone does something that you decide to continue to love or not love them. If this were true, than you are only seeking what you need, that’s self-seeking. Love is given because it is given. Christ loved me before I knew I needed to be loved. He did not love me because I loved Him, He loved me, because He did. Love always Perseveres: Love will always continue to seek the good and not the bad. It will always seek to chase away the darkness and fill every part of your being and everything around you with light that is a reflection of the Holy Spirit in us. GOD IS LOVE.

For the last 10 years she has been writing books and essays, speaking at universities and conferences, conducting workshops, providing private coaching and tarot readings, and consulting independent organizations in the areas of social justice, positionality, identity development, body politics, trauma, activism and emotional skills and boundaries. Today we discuss the latest instalment in her Sorting Series of books, What About Love, and many ways Erin deliberately shows up in this world. We laughed, we cried, and we talked about the ways my friend is weary from, and still showing up for her work.

“Dream of the Blue Turtles” by Sting This is the first solo album from Sting - formerly known as Gordon Sumner - formerly the front man of the ultra-successful band, “The Police.” The title, “The Dream of the Blue Turtles” was based on a dream Sting had while recording in Barbados. He was sitting in his walled garden at his home, and the wall crumbled down as a crowd of giant blue turtles invaded and destroyed the garden. This album garnered a bunch of Grammy nominations, including Album of the Year, Best Male Pop Vocal Performance, Best Jazz Instrumental Performance, and Best Engineered Recording. Join us as we riff on this jazz-leaning solo debut from one of the top performers of the 80's. “Fortress Around Your Heart” This is the last track from the album, and was inspired by Sting's divorce. This song is about appeasement and moving forward. It was a kind of antidote to The Police song, “Wrapped Around Your Finger.” While "Wrapped" is about control, "Fortress is about giving up control. “Russians” By 1985 the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union had taken a more confrontational turn from the Detente of the 70's. This song explores the idea of coming together for the sake of our children. Sting was inspired by hearing a Soviet broadcast of a children's television program. “Moon Over Bourbon Street” Inspired by Anne Rice's "Interview with the Vampire" which Police guitarist Andy Summers gave Sting. Branford Marsalis delivers a great counter-melody on saxophone in this deep cut. “Shadows in the Rain” This is a jazz remake of a Police track off the album "Zenyatta Mondatta." Sting takes the tempo up considerably on this jazz jam. ENTERTAINMENT TRACK: Theme to “St. Elmo's Fire” One of the Brat Pack movies of the eighties. (From Bruce: As a correction, the brat pack movies were directed by John Hughes, not John Houston.) STAFF PICKS: “Bad” by U2 A tremendous live track by U2, Bono talks about heroin addiction in this song. Their Live Aid performance of this song propelled the group into superstar status. “Voices Carry” by Till Tuesday "Hush, Hush, keep it down now." Aimee Mann was inspired to write this song after breaking up with her drummer. Mann is considered one of the greatest singer-songwriters of the day. “What About Love?” by Heart Ann Wilson fronts Heart on this Power Ballad originally written by the Canadian group Toronto. Grace Slick sings in the background on this one. “Kayleigh” by Marillion The most commercially successful song off the concept album "Misplaced Childhood" is a melancholy apology to some of the women Marillion front man Fish dated in the past. The name Kayleigh was almost unheard of before this song, and took hold afterwards. LAUGH TRACK: “Axel F” from “Beverly Hills Cop” We exit this week's podcast to the instrumental hit by Harold Faltermeyer, written for the film, "Beverly Hills Cop."

The music clips heard in our June podcast interview with Dr. Anne Klaeysen of the New York Society for Ethical Culture are taken from the song “What About Love?” written and performed by Athena Reich.  See http://www.athenareich.com/.  Lyrics: Will I let this time Define my state of mind? Will I let the news Be my only muse? Will I let these leaders Be my only meters on how to live, love work and die…. Will we swallow laws just because? Will we swallow fate until it’s too late? Will we swallow war As nothing more than a tragic chapter in the human factor… I can’t take it anymore There’s gotta be a change for sure I’m so sick of being numb Would it make a difference if I gave you some of that LOVE Is difference of skin an excuse to sin? Is difference of faith An excuse to hate? does difference of land define the man? Or all we all the same Beneath this losing game We won’t take it anymore There’s gonna be a change for sure We’re so done with being numb Give me some, let me give you some of that LOVE Some say that hope is a fool just wasting time I say that hope is a prayer that can change… that can change mankind What about Love    LOVE     When we gonna treat every heart that beats with LOVE

In this episode of our free podcast series “NYC Faith Leaders,” Maggi Van Dorn and ICNY’s Directory of Programs Dr. Henry Goldschmidt talk with Dr. Anne Klaeysen, leader of the New York Society for Ethical Culture, ethical humanist religious life advisor at Columbia University and humanist chaplain at NYU.    On the first Humanists: "While they were experiencing their lives and their commitments to their vocations as religious they were beginning to separate that more from a belief in a supernatural, anthropomorphized deity." On the "1st manifesto": "Humanism is a philosophy and a religion that emphasizes human responsibility and accountability." On Adler’s Supreme Ethical Rule: "You choose to attribute worth and dignity to every human being, and secondly, you act in ways to elicit the goodness in others and when you act in that way you are eliciting the goodness in yourself."   Note: The music clips heard in this podcast episode are taken from the song “What About Love?" with full permission from its writer and performer, Athena Reich.  Complete song and lyrics here.    We hope you will not just listen to this series, but download the podcasts to hear while driving, jogging, or washing the dishes.  And subscribe in order to be alerted when new installments are available.  It’s a great way to learn about the faiths of our New York City neighbors.

I'm the type of girl who likes to run around barefoot and dance in the rain. I live and breathe music and it plays a big role in my life. My songs are my sense of freedom. I can write about anything and no one can change it. They allow me to let go of things that are really bugging me.I play the piano and guitar. I've been singing since I could talk, but it wasn't until I was 11 that I started to write songs. My inspiration for writing music was a result of a poetry project my English teacher assigned. I realized that poetry came naturally to me. Whenever I am frustrated, sad, or excited about school, friends, or boys, I let out my emotions into a song. Sometimes I write the lyrics first and then I play around on the piano or my guitar to add the melody. Other times, I'm playing the piano or guitar and a song flows out based on what I'm feeling.I love a lot of different types of music but my favorite is pop/country. When I am angry or upset, I like listening to slow sad songs that help me think through everything. When I'm excited or happy I enjoy listening to fast or sweet slow songs that encourage my mood. There's a song for almost every occasion - from being in love to experiencing a heart-break. My current favorite country songs are "Tornado" and "Pontoon" by Little Big Town, "Two Black Cadillacs" by Carrie Underwood, "Watching Airplanes" by Gary Allan, and "Better Dig Two" by The Band Perry. I also like a lot of the good ol' classics like “Don't Stop Believing” by Journey (we all know that one), “What About Love” by Heart, and “The Night Owls” by Little River Band.My friends are really important to me, and I spend a lot of time hanging out with them. I love reading certain types of books, like fantasy and romance. Some of my favorites are the Twilight saga (I've only heard of 1 person that didn't like them) and Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. I have also always been obsessed with fairy tales. I love to watch movies, swim, go shopping, read (certain books ha-ha), text (who doesn't?), write stories and songs, and of course – Sing!
