We're back after a small hiatus. Welcome to LIVE MONDAY!!! Dean went golfing in Arizona last week and has a few stories to tell: - Covid doesn't exist in America - Canadian snacks and hospitality industry suck ass - There's nothing wrong with Pearson Airport (Pierre Poilievre is a liar) Our resident financial WIZ, @Scottrades, from our #HotWallet podcast, joins us to break down the banking meltdown south of the border. - SVB collapse -Peter Theil's involvement in the "Bank Run" and why it matters. - Trump did this through deregulation, but what happened, and how does a bank run out of money? - Will this trigger more government takeovers of banking institutions, and is Canada exempt? Which Canadian banks are gambling with tech startup cash?? Tiger Woods broke up with his very unattractive girlfriend after a 4-year stint. Typically not news, but how he did it is fucking LEGENDARY. - His lawyer told his GF to pack for a short trip - Lawyer dropped her off at the airport with legal papers saying GTFO of Tigers house. - She's now suing him for 30 million based on a promise she could live in his 2000million dollar house for five years (she's lying) - She's also fighting the NDA, but I like Tiger even more now. She was a restaurant manager before she met Tiger; she's not entitled to shit. On Wednesday, the student council at Simon Fraser University will vote to approve a motion entitled "Establishing an SFSS Issues Policy on Palestinian Liberation". The motion supports resisting "Israeli settler colonialism" and pushes for the end of "colonization of all Arab lands"—though it doesn't define what those lands are. Regular listeners of this podcast can be forgiven for thinking they've heard this story before. Simon Fraser has become the latest in a recent string of student councils that have passed, or are on the verge of passing, pro-Palestinian or anti-Israel policies that support the boycott, divestment and sanctions movement. The four other schools have been the University of Toronto, McGill, Concordia and the University of British Columbia. What exactly is behind this trend? Why is it happening now, and why should Jewish Canadians not simply dismiss the actors as a bunch of radical students passing toothless motions in a campus echo chamber? To answer these questions, we're joined by Gillie Cohen, a 22-year-old who works for Hillel in B.C., and Jonah Fried, a 21-year-old history student and activist at McGill, who are living through this battle in real-time. What we talked about: Read the BDS motion put forward to the Simon Fraser Student Society Watch the Beth Tikvah event, "Antisemitism at University of Toronto: An Ongoing Concern" Listen to The CJN Daily episode, "Which Canadian campuses are safest for Jews? What are the latest trends in wine, from blue wines to raw wines? And should you be drinking them? Why are high-tech and wine a perfect pairing? What's it like behind the scenes of the wine writing industry? How do you recover from devastating professional and personal attacks? In this episode of the Unreserved Wine Talk podcast, I'm being interviewed by Elizabeth Schneider on the Wine For Normal People podcast. You can find the wines we discussed at https://www.nataliemaclean.com/winepicks. Highlights What happy accident introduced me to the world of great wines? How did I go from visiting wineries on the weekend to becoming a wine writer? Why do I think wine and tech are a perfect pairing? What was unusual about my journey to publishing my first book? How have I used storytelling as a common theme throughout my work? What's the real story behind the challenges and attacks I faced in 2021? How do Canadian and American wine palates compare? Which Canadian wine region am I most excited about right now? Where can you find the best Canadian Pinot Noir? Why is it so difficult to access Canadian wine in Canada? About Elizabeth Schneider After graduating from Wesleyan University (CT) and starting my career in Boston, Elizabeth quickly realized that her heart was more in her hobby than in her high-tech job. Trips to the wine shop often yielded awesomely poor (but hilarious) results, so Elizabeth and her sister finally took a course at the Boston Center for Adult Education to learn how to taste and appreciate wine. And that kicked it all off. A stint in St. John in the Caribbean to wait tables and just unwind for 8 months (yes, I quit my high-tech corporate job, packed two bags, and hopped on a plane), was followed by a great two years completing my MBA at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (where she met M.C. Ice, her podcast partner, and husband) and since then her career has been solely about wine. To learn more about the resources mentioned in this episode, visit https://www.nataliemaclean.com/148.

Mike Traikos breaks down the 2019 playoff matchups. Would it be considered an upset if the Leafs were to beat the Bruins? Which Canadian team has the best shot to go the distance? They also talk about home ice advantage and the New York Islanders, who were considered to have the worst arena in the NHL a few short years ago, being back in their old barn with rabid fans and perhaps the best atmosphere in the NHL. The draft lottery is also a hot topic this week, why the Senators are smugly grinning and why the Canucks think they are cursed.
Which Canadian teams have the most to lose? Which have the most to gain? In advance of Monday's NHL trade deadline, Postmedia national hockey writer Mike Traikos takes us through the likelihood that the Senators, Canadiens, Leafs, Flames, Jets, Canucks, and Oilers are active in changing their fortunes before rosters are locked.
What did Madonna buy Sean to cheer him up in the weeks before his trial for fighting with photographers? Which Canadian lovelette is so desperate for a husband she’s signed up with a dating agency? Who has worn the same underpants for seven years? It’s all here in this week’s Chart Trivia on 7th January 1988! Starring Belinda Carlisle, Pet Shop Boys, T’Pau, Joyce Sims, Jellybean, G.O.S.H. and a cast of thousands!
It’s almost Halloween and there are some scary things happening in the NHL. Auston Matthews is injured thanks to a hit from Jacob Trouba. Jonathan Quick is day to day again and it may be cause for concern in the Los Angeles front office. The Bruins are playing without 3 of their top 6 defensemen and the Two Man Forecheck missed a week for the first time since its inception. We start out with two Twitter Poll results and introduce the new poll: Which Canadian team will make the playoffs. For the results, Pastrnak was voted the quickest to 20 goals, and there wasn’t much to discuss regarding which division would have the same top 3 teams. The Forecheckers wax poetic about the surprising play of the Montreal Canadiens. Claude seems to have them playing somewhat inspired hockey. It could be the trade of their captain, or the absence of their best defenseman, but they have pulled together, and Price appears to be heading back to what is expected of him. This conversation led us into a compare and contrast between Brendan Gallagher and Brad Marchand. Similar in size and playing style, how entertaining would it be to have both of these guys on the same line? Tell us what you think. We at the Two Man Forecheck love John Tortorella. A story appeared on CBSSports.com about John and his opinion on the niceties of the NHL. He is “sickened” by the lack of “hate” in the NHL. Now we don’t believe he actually wants people to hate each other, but while on the ice there isn’t enough dislike for the opponent. Opposing players smiling and laughing during games seems to upset Torts. We talked about this and the lack of rivals for more time than expected. Kevin Paul Dupont of the Boston Globe tweeted out that if the Bruins wanted Panarin, the trade would have to start with McAvoy and DeBrusk. Mike seems to think that this would be enough, along with an extension for Panarin, to get him to don the Black and Gold. Chris isn’t so sure, believing that there would have to be a pick or prospect or both. What do you believe? Do you even want the “bread man” in Boston? Finally, we talk goaltending around the league and goal scoring. The latter appears to be going up, and the goalie stats seem to bear that out. Starters such as Rask don’t appear to be playing as well as their backups. The numbers for Halak indicate that he should (and could) be starting in Boston, but he isn’t considered the number one at this time. Could this be an issue where the coach is hurting his team by not making a choice. Lots of opportunities to share your opinions with us. Send us that feedback and enjoy the show!
