Recorded live at the Toronto International Film Festival, David Peck sits down with filmmaker Bryan Fuller to discuss Dust Bunny, Fuller's darkly playful and deeply personal feature debut. What begins as a conversation about genre influences, Frankenstein, Blade Runner and Gremlins, turns inward, as Fuller reflects on childhood fear, imagination, and fairy tales. Together they explore how the film reframes monsters as emotional realities rather than fantasy creatures, and how humour, wonder, and visual style create both distance and healing. Dust Bunny emerges as a story for adults that is frightening, funny, and so tender. Bryan Fuller is an acclaimed writer, producer, and filmmaker celebrated for his visually striking, emotionally complex storytelling. He is best known as the creator of genre-defining television series including Hannibal, Pushing Daisies, Wonderfalls, and Dead Like Me, as well as his work on Star Trek: Discovery and American Gods. Across television, Fuller has built a reputation for blending dark humour, heightened fantasy, and deeply human themes, often exploring identity, trauma, and transformation through bold, imaginative worlds. With Dust Bunny, his feature-film debut, Fuller brings his singular voice to cinema. Premiering at TIFF's Midnight Madness, the film merges fairy tale, horror, and wit into a deeply personal story rooted in childhood fear and resilience. Whether working in television or film, Fuller continues to push genre boundaries, crafting stories that are visually lush, emotionally resonant, and unafraid to confront the monsters—real and imagined—that shape us.David Peck is a writer, speaker, and award-winning podcaster who works at the intersection of storytelling, social change, and meaningful dialogue. As the host of Face2Face and former host of Toronto Threads on 640 AM, he has published over 650 in-depth interviews with some of the world's most compelling thinkers, artists and storytellers, including Viggo Mortensen, Sarah Polley, Raoul Peck, Werner Herzog, Chris Hadfield, David Cronenberg, Gillian Anderson and Wade Davis. With a background in philosophy and international development, David brings a thoughtful, globally aware perspective to every conversation. He's a published author and experienced keynote speaker, known for creating spaces where complexity is welcomed and ideas come alive. Whether moderating panels, hosting live events, or speaking on issues ranging from ethics to media, David's work is grounded in a deep curiosity about people. At heart, he simply loves good conversation and believes it's one of the best ways we grow, connect, and make sense of the world. For more information about David Peck's podcasting, writing and public speaking please visit his site here.F2F Music and Image Copyright: David Peck, ICBL and Face2Face. Childhood fears, bedtime monsters, and the hazy membrane between imagination and trauma collide in “Dust Bunny,” the feature directorial debut of Bryan Fuller, a filmmaker whose storytelling instincts have always lived in the space between the two B's - beauty and brutality. It is a film that feels handcrafted out of nightmares and fairy-tale sugar, a creature feature through the eyes of a child who sees the world in magic and menace at the same time. Rich with color, shadows, and emotional ambiguity, it is unmistakably a Bryan Fuller movie, which is to say that it's tender, violent, mischievous, and sincere in equal measure.Joining The Discourse in today's episode is Bryan Fuller himself, the writer and director behind shows like “Hannibal,” “Pushing Daisies,” “American Gods,” and “Star Trek: Discovery” (in its early days). Fuller's signature blend of genre storytelling and emotional excavation finds a new form here as he steps behind the camera for his first feature-length film, crafting a story about a little girl who hires a hitman to kill the monster under her bed and discovers that nothing is simple when your fears have roots. The film stars Mads Mikkelsen, Sigourney Weaver, David Dastmalchian, Sophie Sloan, and Sheila Atim.
How do you grieve the impending death of a lifelong friend when you are a multi-hyphenate comedian, actor, director and producer? If you are Tig Notaro, you produce a film about their life and work — as she has done for the late spoken word poet Andrea Gibson with the documentary Come See Me In The Good Light. Best known for her dry-witted stand up comedy, Tig is also a podcaster (Handsome), actor (Star Trek: Discovery, The Morning Show), director (Am I Ok?) and producer for film and television. Kara and Tig discuss the documentary, Gibson's life and relationship with their wife Meg Falley after they were diagnosed with incurable cancer, how Andrea's death opened her up to experiencing grief in a new way, and how it all relates to Tig's own 2012 cancer diagnosis, which she shared on stage in a genre-breaking set. Plus: how the comedy world is shifting under Trump and Tig's plans for an all-lesbian action film. Questions? Comments? In its third season Strange New Worlds has gone a long way towards living up to the first word in its title. From its inception, the pre-Kirk (somewhat) Enterprise series promised to avoid the long drawn out arcs that bogged down its predecessor Star Trek: Discovery. No one anticipated the bizarre, random, series of non sequiturs we've been served up this season. While there have been some funny bits, and a few noteworthy bits, most of the seven episodes to date have left viewers scratching their heads. This week, Barry, Brian, Dave and Tod break down the season so far and ask, can the series be saved? Opinions vary, mostly About "Four and a Half Vulcans." There's also a round of What's in the Box and the usual random topics. Thanks for listening!

This week, disgraced Starfleet officer Michael Burnham falls down the rabbit hole, where she finds an unsettling mirror image of her previous life: a crew regarding her with suspicion, a captain manipulating her with falsehoods, and a Starfleet obsessed with operational security. And then the slavering monster shows up.
That Hope Is You, Part 1 (Star Trek: Discovery, S3 E1) was recommended by Lauren Alexis Rivers She/Her, who said: The first episode when Discovery arrives in the future, it introduces one of Discovery's most complex characters, Cleveland Booker, aka Book. A courier, he is our guide to one of the furthest points in the future we have ever seen. The episode largely features Burnham alone in a strange land, much like the Alice in Wonderland she had once quoted. It introduces the new world and a galaxy very different from the one we know.I always liked this episode because rebooting a series, soft or otherwise, is very hard to do. Most shows never manage to successfully transition their characters to a new setting. But Discovery not only does it well, but they also create a unique story in star trek where for the first time we see a broken Federation and a hurting universe, and these hopeful kids are going to do what they can to make the galaxy better. That Hope Is You, Part 1 first aired on October 15, 2020, written by Michelle Paradise & Jenny Lumet & Alex Kurtzman, and directed by Olatunde OsunsanmiArriving 930 years in the future, Burnham navigates a galaxy she no longer recognizes while searching for the rest of the U.S.S. Discovery crew. The Joy of Trek is hosted by Khaki & Kay, with editing & production by Chief Engineer Greg and music by Fox Amoore (Bandcamp | Bluesky)Send us your recommendations, or support us on Patreon.Find us at joyoftrek.com · Twitter · Facebook

I wonder if a Vulcan Hello is anything like an Irish Goodbye. Instead of leaving without telling anyone, would it be arriving? You know, for how many people there are that still have never heard of this series, it seems to fit. However, is having your arrival unknown mean that it is unwelcome? If a Star Trek series falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound? Regardless if it does or not, let's all still say hello to this new streaming era of the franchise as we watch this premiere episode of Star Trek: Discovery. Episode discussion starts at 18:37 This is episode 2/10 in our look at Modern Trek. Hosted by Jaron Hatch, Salem Rogers, & Rachel Murtagh. Today, we go back to 2021 with an epic chat featuring writer Dan Slott—the man who brought his unique voice to Spider-Man, She-Hulk, and of course, Marvel's First Family, the Fantastic Four. As the FF celebrated their 60th anniversary, Dan reflects on their legacy, his run on the title, and why they still matter in today's pop culture landscape. But this conversation doesn't stop at Yancy Street—we also dive into Doctor Who, one of Dan's lifelong fandoms, and get his take on the show's recent direction. And then it gets a little spicy as we discuss Star Trek: Discovery and where that show may have gone off the rails. Plus a good dose of Star Wars talk. It's comics, sci-fi, and brutally honest fandom with one of the sharpest writers in the business.
On this episode, three kids — Charlie from Brooklyn, Knox from Denver, and Sienna from Houston — join LKBH host Todd Loyd to discuss the great outdoors — and how nature makes them feel. The kids and Todd then hike up an enormous imaginary mountain to travel to the Land of Qook-a-lackas … arriving JUST at the right moment to help a Qook-a-lacka friend, Qwiffin (played by the amazing Maulik Pancholy), grow a "memory garden." What is a memory garden?!Qwiffin explains: "Well, it's a garden, but instead of being made out of dirt and seeds and the power of photosynthesis, it grows in a different way: It grows from our memories of being outdoors in nature." The kids and Todd help Qwiffin brainstorm amazing memories of nature in all four seasons: ❄️,
