Join me for my next live video in the appLet's get into it. I've never done a live on Substack before, but I thought it would be fun and I've been wanting to do them more.So I'm going to just tell you about a few things that I got today.I went to Surdyks and it had been a while since I'd been there and I was glad to revisit them - on their 90th Anniversary!They are a local store in Minneapolis and I am a big fan and I bought some thingsthat I wanted to tell you about.The first one is a product that is made in Minnesota.It's called Pommeau and it is from Milk and Honey.And it is the most delicious like honey apple Brandy liqueur.And what I do with it is I will pair it with whiskey or with rum.So I might have like an ounce and a half of whiskey or an ounce and a half of rumand then an ounce of this and I have it on the rocks andAnd it's just a delightful after-dinnery type drink.So milk and honey, I was out of it.I was happy to see it was back on the stores.Here is a new product that I'm excited about.I got it because it's from Vietnam and I was just there, fun!Song Cai the name of the gin.They had three different kinds of these Vietnamese gins at SurdyksAnd I happened to chat with one of the folks there and they said this one was their favorite.So I have not tried it yet, but can you see how pretty the bottle is inside it?It just looks amazing.So I'm going to go ahead and give this a try.I think I'll, it's floral gins are kind of good with tonic or with club soda.So I'm excited about trying that.I will report back.Something that is not alcohol, but I do have two of those left too.It is Ryze Mushroom CoffeeThis is something that I'm nervous about.Now they say that mushrooms are super good for you.And I absolutely believe that, but Could this product replace like my love of coffee or is it just like another thingto give you more of a wellness supplement?There's 2000 milligrams of mushrooms in here, which is a lot.So what you do with it,and I haven't done it yet,is you apparently take a tablespoon of this and then eight to 10 ounces of hot orcold water and you can ice it if you want to or hot.from 9-11 on MyTalk 107.1 and Ill chat about it with Stephanie March So I'm going to do this in the morning tomorrow before my radio show.It's called Ryse and there's 30 servings in here.It's from Massachusetts and there's 15 calories in a tablespoon.So it's low cal, which is fine, but we'll have to see how I feel about the mushroom coffee.Okay.Also,I got this at Christmas time and Beauty Counter was, all the rageand I don't know all the things that happened,but it was like a woman started the company and then she enlisted all these peopleto sell it and it was a great product.Then someone bought it like an investment company and apparently trashed the company,This product in particular is a Beauty Counter Hydrating Body lotion and it'sbut somehow it's back.This product in particular is a hydrating lotion.Okay, at Surdyks today, they had a wine that is from Croatia.It is called Plavac Bura.It is made with Plavac Mali grapes.It is called Plavac Bura.And it is a very delicious red table wine.And I also noticed it at my friend Leslie's place, Sip Better WinesI got this at Surdyks - I have noticed this at Total Wine too.This is like a $19 bottle of wine and it is fantastic for the value.It is Croatian.You'll find it kind of in the weird section where sometimes the best wines are.But I would like you guys to try this.I just love this wine.Another wine and  I have only found this at Surdyks before.I'm going to be bringing it to a party tomorrow.a,drier fruitier kind of bubbly effervescent type of white,that's not like full on champagne.It's not probably like that, but just has a tiny bubble.A Gruner Vertliner is a good wine for you to try.And this is from Austria, Weingut BrundlmayerI really like the wines that they have from Austria at SurdyksBut when I hear about organics, it makes me happy.So this is something that you would have with like a fish,Or if you're someone that likes a Sauvignon Blanc,but you just want to try something a little bit different,I'd highly recommend this.And then last but not least, La Croix.Okay, right.Everybody loves a good La Croix.I don't really love like the weird little flavors of some of these soda things,but I do like this Limoncello La Croix.It has like a vanilla taste almost to it and a little hint of lemon.It is still no calorie, so it's nothing, but it has some weird sweetener stuff in it.Let's face facts.They put chemicals in these things.I don't know why, but it tastes good.So this is the LaCroix.What I like to do actually,and that's here,is I take one of these cans and a plain can so that it tempers down the flavoring alittle bit, but it still tastes good.And then last but not least, I was on Jason's show today and this darling couple.I ran out of there because I had a meeting.And when I came back, they had left this on my bag of my Jason show things.And it is says taste buds on there.It is adorable, a little embroidered tea towel.As you know, I did a textile, a class at textile center and it was super fun.They have really great classes there.If you are a Minnesota person and you want toget your needling skills going.So you guys, that's it.My first live on Substack.I would like to do more.I'm also considering like maybe another format where I talk with someone else.But if this is something that you liked or you would like to see more of,I could even do like cooking things that are live.I just decided I would try it today since I had the good hair and I was alone withjust little Stanley here tonight.For dinner,we're going to be having the spring roll in a bowl that I made on Jason's showtoday that I marinated some carrots in a fish sauce that I put on my spring roll ina bowl,and it made the entire Fox Studio smell like stinky fish.But it's delicious,and that's what I'm going to be having for dinner tonight with a glass of this white...that I'll be having.And then in the morning, I'm going to try the mushroom coffee so you can tune in.We'll probably talk about it during the top two an hour or two, which is at 10.05 exactly.And if you want to hear what I thought about the mushroom coffee, feel free to tune in tomorrow.Otherwise, have a great weekend.It's supposed to be super nice.I'm very excited about that.I am going to be sitting with my seed catalogs.Planning for some of my seeds because I've got to get things planted.And if you follow along,you know that I garden in a very cold northern place that I only have about 50 to60 days with the seeds to get them to do anything.So I'm going to be getting my seeds going in the next couple of weeks.If you have any early plants like early tomatoes that you recommend or anythingthat you've tried and you want to pass that along,I'm always open to new gardening ideas.Thank you for being here.Thank you for following along on Substack.I started my Substack about a year and a half ago.It is just a joy.I love it.I love spending Sunday mornings writing it.I think about all of your faces and like what recipes I want to share.And it really just gives me joy.So thanks for following along.I hope that you guys have a great night and we'll try and do Substacks again if you like it.Thanks.Bye.Stephanie's Dish Newsletter is a reader-supported publication. For this episode we chatted with Georges Saab, Vice President of Software Development at the Java Platform Group and Manish Gupta, Vice President of Global Marketing for Java and GraalVM. In the beginning, the nascent Java language project, codenamed Project Green and later Oak, was designed to create interactive televisions. Think of the kind of overlays and interactivity that you see with most flat screen TVs today. Back in 1995, this was brand new territory. There was no hardware or operating system standard for a computing platform within a TV, so the team had to figure out how to create a programming language that could run on virtually anything. Code it once and run it everywhere through a virtual machine. Interactive TV was ahead of its time in the early 90s, but Java found a strong foothold for its cross-platform ideas in web applets and WebStart programs that downloaded and ran an application entirely from a web address. This evolved over time, and today it provides a lot of the processing muscle for server-side web apps and cloud-based SaaS applications. Here at Stack Overflow, the Java tag has remained one of the most popular over the years, with 1.7 million total questions on the site. When Sun announced Java in 1995, they did so with Marc Andreessen—then cofounder and “rockstar” at Netscape—on stage with them. Andreessen had agreed to integrate Java into the Navigator browser, a major coup for a brand new language. At the time, Navigator was the clear leader in the browser market, taking over 75% of the share. Even before this announcement at the SunWorld conference, the volume of downloads of the language became so great that it overwhelmed the T1 line attached to the java.sun.com web server. Today's episode covers the past and present of Java. Tomorrow, we'll air episode two, which takes us from the present and looks towards the future. Cool IFTTT Applets and Devices Many of us have some sort of home automation device in our homes. Many of the products we had do not necessarily work together unless you are using a framework from Google, Amazon, or Apple. That's where IFTTT comes in. IFTTT connects devices that normally don't talk to each other with something called an Applet.  These Applets are composed of triggers and actions. Triggers tell an Applet to start, and actions are the end result of an Applet run. To use an Applet, you'll need a free IFTTT account. Then you need to connect your apps and devices to IFTTT, so they can  talk to each other via the IFTTT service. Today we are going to discuss some of the cooler Applets we have found. Please let us know what your favorites are and we'll share.    Turn on lights when Ring senses motion Turns on selected Hue lights when the Ring doorbell senses motion only during night hours. This may be good especially when you are away from home. People wanting to break into your home may be discouraged if all the lights are one.    Stop Sonos when you leave the house Pause music in all your rooms when you leave your house. There's also one to start playing your favorite tunes as soon as you walk through the door. Receive a notification on your phone when your Amazon Alexa timer goes off You'll get notified when your Amazon Alexa timer goes off. Must have the IFTTT app installed. Wireless Tag Wireless Tags are very small devices that can sense even the slightest movement. They have light and temperature sensors as well. They cost about $35 and are only about an inch and a half square. Requires a $40 hub. These devices are inexpensive and can be used to detect motion or movement of objects  and they can be tied together to many other devices via the IFTTT app.  Notion  The Notion Smart Security Starter Kit provides monitoring for opening doors and windows, sounding smoke/CO alarms, water leaks, and temperature changes. With IFTTT you can add more capability like connecting them to your Hue Lights.  Fing Fing is a network scanner that makes you discover all connected devices, run internet speed tests and help troubleshoot network and device issues. Get Fingbox for more advanced security and protection for your network. With IFTTT you can add more capability like connecting them to your Hue Lights.  Are you sensing a pattern here? But you can do more than just turn on lights. You can arm cameras, start a Harmony activity, or even activate Hubitat devices.  Airthings Airthings produces radon and indoor air quality system for multi-room, connected monitoring. With IFTTT you can connect your WeMo products, Hue Lights, and even make a calendar entry. Weather Stations IFTTT connects to a few weather stations which can allow for triggers based on weather so you don't water your lawn in the rain or shut your Hunter Douglas blinds when it gets hot outside.

Am 30.05. haben wir unser Podcastjubiläum. An dem Tag wird unser Podcast 6 Jahre alt. Michaela wird nach Ostern wieder zum Arbeiten gehen. Jeanette verkauft ihr Auto, aber in Stuttgart braucht man nicht so dringend ein Auto. Manche Sachen sind aber doch einfacher zu erledigen. In Konstanz hat das Exxtra zugemacht, was sehr schade ist, denn im Exxtra gab es die besten Kässpätzle hier in der Gegend. Michaela hatte am Wochenende eine ganz leichte Blasenentzündung. Michaelas Gesundheit, ist abgesehen von diesen leichten Blasenprobleme, recht gut und sie ist guter Dinge, daß sie im Oktober den Japanurlaubb gut verbringen kann. Die Wartesituation an Haltestellen an den Fernbbushaltestellen ist teilweise etwas schwierig, wie Jeanette berichtet und Michaela aus eigener Erfahrung kennt. Jeanette war im Film "Der Marsianer". Nach dem Film gab es ein Q&A mit Ernst Messerschmid. Von der Raumfahrt kommen wir dann zur Astronomie. Michaela ist begeistert von den ersten Aufnahmen eines schwarzen Lochs, welches letzte Woche veröffentlicht wurde. Michaela hat ein kleines Problem mit ihren Plex Servern und überlegt sich deshalb sich einen NAS-Server anzuschaffen. Jeanette möchte gerne YouTube-Videos drehen und zeigen, wie sie ihre Modelle zusammenbaut. IFTT bietet eine gutes Applet, um Fotos, die man auf Instagram postet, als original Foto auf Twitter gepostet werden. Michaelas Apple Watch hat seit letzter Woche die Möglichkeit EKGs aufzuzeichnen. Michaela schaut kein Fernsehen, aber sie hat letztens eine Dokumentation über die neue chinesische Seidenstrasse gesehen und hat ein paar Kritikpunkte an dieser Dokumentation. Was Michaela sehr faszinierend fand, war eine Aufnahme von Shenzhen (深圳). Vieles der Technik kommt heute aus Shenzhen. This is an app that allows you to integrate different services to increase the functionality of each of the services. This includes hundreds of different services – everything from email to social media, calendars to smart home products, and of course ALEXA, among many, many others!IFTTT is based on “Applets” or “Recipes” – these are essentially simple logic commands that cause one service to trigger an action in another service. For example, having a timer go off on Alexa (i.e. the trigger) can cause a light to go on elsewhere (i.e. the action). Or adding something to your to-do list on Alexa (i.e. the trigger) can cause the item to be emailed to your inbox (i.e. the action). There are literally thousands of IFTTT applets that can be developed.Now here is the caveat: As us Canadians know all too well, some of the functionality is not available in Canada while it is available in the States. Quizás este lenguaje de programación sea el gran desconocido en el aprendizaje de las ciencias de la computación, puede que quede en un segundo plano con relación a lenguajes como Python o Scratch. En este capítulo vamos a ver Processing, el lenguaje para gráficos.Que no te lleve a engaño el título, Processing es un lenguaje muy potente que podemos utilizar en multitud de proyectos y precisamente ese es su fuerte, podemos utilizarlo en diferentes modos de programación, desde un modo básico hasta un modo complejo utilizando toda la potencia que nos brinda la orientación a objetos.Te recuerdo que estoy trabajando en diferentes cursos sobre programación, electrónica y robótica en el Campus de Programarfacil, donde aprenderás a crear tecnología.¿Qué es Processing?Processing es un dialecto de Java que fue diseñado para el desarrollo del arte gráfico, para las animaciones y aplicaciones gráficas de todo tipo. Desarrollado por artistas y para artistas.Es un software basado en Java y por lo tanto, multiplataforma. Desarrollado a partir del 2001 por el más que conocido departamento del MIT, el Media Lab. Los creadores, Casey Res y Ben Fry, son discípulos del profesor John Maeda creador del método DBN (Design By Numbers) que, en los años 90, pretendía introducir a la programación a diseñadores,, artistas y no programadores de una forma sencilla. Precisamente Processing está inspirado en DBN que en la actualidad ya no está activo.¿Qué ventajas nos aporta Processing?Ya te he comentado en varias ocasiones que la gran ventaja que tenemos con plataformas como Arduino y Scratch es que se trata de un aprendizaje plug and play es decir, no tenemos que andar configurando e instalando miles de cosas para ponernos a trabajar. Processing es un lenguaje que podemos incluir en este méotodo.Es una plataforma que integra entorno de desarrollo y lenguaje de programación. Es muy fácil de aprender y solo necesitamos unos minutos para empezar a programar. Al contrario de las alternativas que tenemos para desarrollar para entornos gráficos como OpenGL, el cual es bastante complicado y engorroso, Processing nos facilita esta tarea y nos evita la frustración cuando queremos aprender un lenguaje de estas características.Pero su facilidad no quiere decir que no sea un lenguaje potente, al contrario, podemos hacer proyectos espectaculares y muy complicados.Otra característica muy importante es la escalabilidad. Podemos combinar Processing con aplicaciones Java, en los dos sentidos, e incluso tenemos la posibilidad de portar nuestros proyectos a la web gracias a Processing.js. Solo necesitamos descargar el JS y a través de la etiqueta canvas de HTML5, hacer referencia a nuestros archivos creados con Processing, muy sencillo.Existen 3 maneras de programar en esta plataforma:De forma básica, tipo Basic o Ensamblador. Sentencia a sentencia, con variables globales y sin nada de complejidad.Podemos utilizar la programación procedural o estructurada como en C. Algo más compleja pero mucho más limpia donde crearemos nuestras propias funciones a las que llamaremos.También podemos utilizar la manera más compleja, utilizando toda la potencia de la programación orientada a objetos.Cuando estamos programando una aplicación de este estilo, sea cual sea el objetivo, lo que buscamos es poder ejecutar nuestro proyecto en cualquier ordenador. Processing nos da la posibilidad de generar un ejecutable para las diferentes plaformas Mac OS, Windows o Linux e incluso podemos desarrollar aplicaciones móviles gracias a la SDK que nos ofrecen para Android. No hay que olvidar que este sistema operativo móvil está basado en Java.Por último, aunque no menos importante, podemos conectar Processing con Arduino ya que están estrechamente ligados.Entorno de desarrolloTiene su propio entorno de desarrollo. Cuando lo veas entenderás porque se dice que la plataforma Arduino se nutre de Processing. Se llama PDE (Processing Development Enviroment) desarrollado en Java. Es muy sencillo y fácil de usar, ya te he dicho que es una plataforma plug and play como Arduino.IDE_ProcessingPero no solo tenemos PDE, si nuestro proyecto es complejo podemos utilizar otros entornos de desarrollo como Eclipse o Netbeans. Lo aconsejable es empezar por el propio entorno de desarrollo y solo cuando tengamos la suficiente experiencia pasar a uno más complejo y potente.Desde el propio entorno de desarrollo podemos generar varios ejecutables en forma de Applet de Java, para ejecutar en navegador con las limitaciones de acceso a recursos del sistema o, como ya he comentado, ejecutables para diferentes plataformas.El lenguaje de programación ProcessingProcessing está basado en Java, más concreto en la versión 1.4.2. Esto no quiere decir que podamos utilizarlo con las versiones más actuales. Para ello debemos utilizar un entorno de desarrollo más potente como por ejemplo Eclipse. En este caso lo utilizaríamos como una librería gráfica que importamos a nuestro proyecto.El proceso por el cual conseguimos un ejecutable te lo muestro en la siguiente imagen.proceso-compilacion-processingPero aunque Processing esté basado en Java, encontramos diferencias entre estos dos lenguajes de programación.La sintaxis es más relajada, plataforma plug and play y sin preparativos.En el modo básico programamos sin funciones, sin clases, sólo líneas de código con variables globales. En Java no podemos.En el modo procedural al estilo de la programación en C, podemos definir nuestras propias funciones a las que llamamos.En el modo más avanzado, programación orientada a objetos, podemos crear clases de una forma muy sencilla que luego son transformadas e completas clases Java.OpiniónNo podemos hablar como un lenguaje puente al estilo de los lenguajes visuales. Processing en un lenguaje de programación de los pies a la cabeza que nos permite introducirnos en la programación desde lo más básico a lo más complejo.Gracias a sus diferentes modos, podemos ir aumentando de nivel poco a poco progresivamente. Aunque su objetivo sean las aplicaciones gráficas, encontramos multitud de proyectos donde podemos aplicarlo.Es una muy buena opción como complemento a la programación física en Arduino y Rasbperry Pi.El recurso del oyenteDe nuevo, José Minguez Moya, nos ha enviado dos recursos muy interesantes para todos los que os queráis introducir en el lenguaje Processing. Con Germán hemos intercambiado varios emails hablando del módulo WiFi ESP. Está muy metido en este tema y su intención es portar el cliente Firmata para comunicar Arduino con el ESP. Al final el objetivo es que el ESP sea el máster para controlar Arduino a través de Firmata.Probando diferentes sensores de presión y temperatura, se encontró con un problema. El ruido que genera este dispositivo. Cuando se puso a investigar encontró una web que te permite probar y testar tus propios filtros. Micromodeler es un entorno gráfico en entorno web para el diseño de filtros digitales. Dispone de una versión gráfica bastante potente que se ofrece gratis e incluye un análisis de la respuesta del filtro muy completa. As with most sizable organizations it is near impossible to uninstall or completely disable Java which sent us on a hunt for a feasible way to contain Java based attacks. What we came up with was restricting it to run only in trusted zones. This worked for APPLET tags when encountered in IE.
