Otras sorpresas fueron Darkness On The Edge Of Town y Human Touch.

Len and Beave talk through their respective lists of Bruce Springsteen's 30 best songs. They argue over placements (or inclusion) of songs like "I'm Goin' Down", "Born In The USA", "Trapped", "Streets of Philadelphia", "Backstreets", and "Rosalita". Does "Born To Run" automatically go to the top spot, or is there a better choice? Tune in for ultimate Boss discussion!

James DF Hannah joins me to chat about his latest novel: BECAUSE THE NIGHT; and, also about his short story: SOMEWHERE OUTSIDE SALVATION. The former is James' latest novel in the Henry Malone series. Henry is a wise-ass to the Nth degree. And I felt such a kinship with Henry. Henry is one tough cookie who keeps going even if the odds are against him. Henry is complex and troubled and so likeable. The West Virginia setting in both the novel and short story are total Appalachian Noir at its finest. Check out our interview and James' work. You won't be disappointed.

"Because The Night" is a study in the power of collaboration -- between downtown New York poet Patti Smith and the ascendant Bruce Springsteen. And 34 years later, between 17X Platinum alterna-pop group Garbage and DIY New Jersey punk band Screaming Females. The Numinous Podcast with Carmen Spagnola: Intuition, Spirituality and the Mystery of Life
Today, I'm going to make a few people really happy because this is the Bruce Springsteen Niche Episode that more than a handful of you have been waiting for. The episode where I explain the long-lasting appeal of Bruce Springsteen as told through select Springsteen tracks arranged in order of progressive maturity of narrative voice. The journey takes us from frustrated youth in a small town, to emergent adult getting into trouble, an adult desire for love and reconciliation with the past, deepening radicalization as the hardships of life are revealed to be so often caused by oppressive systems of class and hierarchy, and finally a swell of hope and resilience as a more mature voice of elderhood emerges. Features 15 of his 60+ albums. I have created this playlist in Tidal but I'm going to add a list of each track and the specific album it appears on - because the specific recording matters. This is a musician who is known for tireless touring having played over 2,600 concerts since he signed with Columbia Records in 1972. But of course, he had a career before that - Bruce Springsteen has been the front man of a rock and roll band since his first gig as a 17 year old with his band called The Castiles in 1965 and he's never had any other job since. Never had a workin man job. Not a day. But his dad did. His dad had lots of jobs, it was hard for him to keep jobs. Partially because of declining industrial jobs around New Jersey intensifying in the mid-60s, but also because Bruce's dad struggled with alcoholism and undiagnosed depression and schizophrenia, and that became a defining feature of Bruce's life and his music, wrestling with intergenerational demons and the mirroring of one family's life in the larger decline of America as a country and an idea at the end of the 20th century.
Recorded live in Nashville Tennessee, the Metal Cowboy Ron Keel joins the program for a once in a lifetime event for Cobras & Fire. This one will make you smile. #ROCKNPODFrom that first Steeler album to recent releases like “South X South Dakota” and “Fight Like A Band,” Ron Keel's 35-year career in entertainment has taken him from the concrete jungles of arena rock to the dirt roads of country music. Along the way, he has sold millions of albums and toured the world as both a heavy metal screamer (KEEL, Steeler, and a brief encounter with Black Sabbath) and a southern rock/outlaw country artist (with dozens of songs in major films and TV shows). For the past two decades, the Metal Cowboy has combined both genres, establishing a style and a persona which captures the heart and personality of this self-proclaimed rock n' roll outlaw. Keel's legendary major label debut album THE RIGHT TO ROCK was produced by KISS' Gene Simmons – they went on to notch three albums on Billboard's Hot 100 as well as MTV and radio hits “The Right To Rock,” “Because The Night,” “Tears Of Fire,” “Somebody's Waiting,” and “Rock N Roll Outlaw.”Opening shows for Bon Jovi, Van Halen, Aerosmith, Motley Crue, Dio, Y&T, Queensryche and many more established a hard work ethic that remains strong today; the 2019/2020 World Tour included the Monsters Of Rock Cruise (Belize/Cozumel), Ron's first-ever tour of Australia, the Frontiers Rock Festival in Milan, Italy, the KISS & Rock N Roll Expo in Helsinki, Finland, casinos, fairs and festivals stateside, KEELFEST (featuring Keel, Ron Keel Band and Steeler) plus major bike events like the Sturgis Rally and Hot Harley Nights. After nearly three years hosting the “Streets of Rock & Roll” rock-and-talk syndicated radio show, Keel was handpicked to join a dream team of Midwest rock radio royalty on KBAD 94.5 FM, where Ron's “Mid-Day Mayhem” show skyrocketed to the top of the Neilson ratings for that region. He's now back on the “Streets Of Rock N Roll” with weekly broadcasts on PureRockRadio.net, TotalRock.com, 97Underground, Philly Rock Radio and RockRageRadio.com.As a songwriter, Ron has dozens of TV and film credits – major movies like “Men In Black II,” “Dolphin Tale,” “The Messengers” and many more – and his songs have been featured in hit TV shows like “X-Files,” “Desperate Housewives,” “The Simpsons,” “King Of The Hill,” and the Daytona 500 broadcast. Ron Keel has worked hard to remain ahead of the curve, constantly re-inventing himself and evolving with the changes in the entertainment industry. If You Leave Me Now".
Mark Trevorrow created Bob Downe in 1984 and the Prince of Polyester continues to reign — at this year's Adelaide Cabaret Festival, Bob Downe is bringing the classic variety television show Adelaide Tonight back to life on stage. From that first Steeler album to recent releases like “South X South Dakota” and “Fight Like A Band,” Ron Keel’s 35-year career in entertainment has taken him from the concrete jungles of arena rock to the dirt roads of country music. Along the way, he has sold millions of albums and toured the world as both a heavy metal screamer (KEEL, Steeler, and a brief encounter with Black Sabbath) and a southern rock/outlaw country artist (with dozens of songs in major films and TV shows). For the past two decades, the Metal Cowboy has combined both genres, establishing a style and a persona which captures the heart and personality of this self-proclaimed rock n’ roll outlaw. Keel’s legendary major label debut album THE RIGHT TO ROCK was produced by KISS’ Gene Simmons – they went on to notch three albums on Billboard’s Hot 100 as well as MTV and radio hits “The Right To Rock,” “Because The Night,” “Tears Of Fire,” “Somebody’s Waiting,” and “Rock N Roll Outlaw.” Opening shows for Bon Jovi, Van Halen, Aerosmith, Motley Crue, Dio, Y&T, Queensryche and many more established a hard work ethic that remains strong today; the 2019/2020 World Tour included the Monsters Of Rock Cruise (Belize/Cozumel), Ron’s first-ever tour of Australia, the Frontiers Rock Festival in Milan, Italy, the KISS & Rock N Roll Expo in Helsinki, Finland, casinos, fairs and festivals stateside, KEELFEST (featuring Keel, Ron Keel Band and Steeler) plus major bike events like the Sturgis Rally and Hot Harley Nights. After nearly three years hosting the “Streets of Rock & Roll” rock-and-talk syndicated radio show, Keel was handpicked to join a dream team of Midwest rock radio royalty on KBAD 94.5 FM, where Ron’s “Mid-Day Mayhem” show skyrocketed to the top of the Neilson ratings for that region. He’s now back on the “Streets Of Rock N Roll” with weekly broadcasts on PureRockRadio.net, UncontrolledNoize.com, 97Underground, Philly Rock Radio and RockRageRadio.com. As a songwriter, Ron has dozens of TV and film credits – major movies like “Men In Black II,” “Dolphin Tale,” “The Messengers” and many more – and his songs have been featured in hit TV shows like “X-Files,” “Desperate Housewives,” “The Simpsons,” “King Of The Hill,” and the Daytona 500 broadcast. Ron Keel has worked hard to remain ahead of the curve, constantly re-inventing himself and evolving with the changes in the entertainment industry. His most recent venture is at http://patreon.com/ronkeel, where fans pay a monthly subscription fee and get all access to exclusive content and personal fan experiences.

Punk perfection bookending a questionable origin story and some ... interesting performances. This week is Because The Night by the Patti Smith Group, covered by 10,000 Maniacs, by Bruce Springsteen, and jointly by Garbage and Screaming Females. Outro Music is The Warrior by Patty Smyth, because we're brats.
Okay, finally. Here is the episode where I cart out my salespitch for the oft-delayed "Ten Thousand Coffins" novella/audiobook. I talk about its inspiration, the frustrations in getting it out there, and dance around the central conceit of the story. Hey, could you just buy it so we can move on? You can't always get what you want, after all. Oh, I heard 10,000 Maniacs' cover of Because The Night yesterday on the radio (yes, I still listen to the radio. I am THAT old), and was reminded of where their name came from* and wondered if that's where my title came from. I recall toying with calling it "A Thousand Coffins" and then upping it to various numbers, depending on how the title sounded. I think I picked 10,000 because it sounded the best spoken aloud (better than 50,000 or 20,000, anyway), but it could have sounded good because there was a band years ago called Ten Thousand Maniacs. Here's a link to the TEXT VERSION. And here's one for the AUDIO VERSION. This one has the WhisperSync option available, and I'm curious, have any of you ever read/listened to one of those WhisperSync books? How does it work, exactly? Thanks to Austin "Danger!" Douglas and Gino "Bridge Out!" Moretto for the cover art! To download the episode, just Right-Click HERE. To support me on Patreon, just Left-Click HERE. *There was a gory B-movie (I think by Herschel Gordon Lewis) called 2,000 MANIACS, and the band misremembered the title as 10,000 MANIACS. When they learned of their mistake, they had already gotten used to the band name.
After a debilitating injury stood between her disjointed second album and the imminent recording of her third, Patti Smith wrote a poem that would inform her next collection of songs by taking her physical pain and turning it into sonic glory. The poem "Easter" detailed her own “resurrection,” her journey to triumph over hardship. A concept was born and the album that would share the poem’s title became Smith’s greatest commercial breakthrough. Containing the monster hit “Because The Night,” the controversial “Rock N Roll N****r,” and raucous, protest-ready “Till Victory,” Easter is a celebration not only of human will, but of female power. Negotiating for complete creative control over her album (a year before 9 to 5 brought gender inequity in the workplace to the national spotlight), Smith made no concessions to how male record executives thought she should present herself. Appearing raw and unpolished on the album cover, growling her desires and bellowing her neuroses in her music, and standing by her artistic convictions, Patti Smith demanded that women be seen on their terms, exactly as they wanted to be. Forty years on, Easter remains a catalyst for feminism, a stronghold for lyric poetry, and an icon of blood-pumping, heart-racing, hair-raising rock and roll.
On the occasion of her autobiography Art Sex Music's American book release, industrial music pioneer and acclaimed performance artist Cosey Fanni Tutti (Throbbing Gristle, Chris and Cosey) sat down with Patti Smith Group's Lenny Kaye to discuss her fascinating life on the margins. Their conversation, which took place at McNally Jackson bookstore in New York, takes in the rise and fall of Throbbing Gristle, transgressive art shows, a hilarious story about Tutti using "Because The Night" during her strip routine, and much more. It begins with a stage-setting reading from Art Sex Music. Many thanks to McNally Jackson and Faber and Faber for allowing Talkhouse to record and release this fantastic conversation. Also, we want to hear from you! Head on over to bit.ly/TalkhouseSurvey to fill out a two-minute survey about you, our audience, so we can hear about how to bring you the best conversations. To sweeten the deal, we’ll be raffling off a Fender Mahogany Acoustic Guitar, a rad nine-LP prize pack courtesy of the great crews at Secretly Group and Dead Oceans, a custom Levi’s jean jacket, and four $25 Amazon gift cards. Good luck! —Elia Einhorn, Talkhouse Music Podcast host and producer
