Unlike last offseason, South Carolina's women's basketball team won't be facing a litany of questions regarding what their squad will look like next Winter. However, one looming void that Dawn Staley and her staff will have to fill is the one left by center Kamilla Cardoso, who's set to move onto the WNBA. Does the answer reside on the current roster in Sania Feagin or Adhel Tac or could there be a transfer that could come in and take over the five-spot for the Gamecocks? Straight people are great. Well, most straight people are. Or... some straight people are? Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is that despite the fact that straight people are ok (-ish) sometimes you just need a good ol' queer friend to help show you the world. And, when most of your friends are straight people you can just end up going to where they want to go and do the things that they want to do. And this can kind of get in the way of you developing in to the queer creature you're meant to be. This is partly what happened to this week's guest, Brian Rowe, the host of A Piece of Pie: The Queer Film Podcast. Brian moved to Chicago from small-town Illinois in the late 90s, and quickly found himself gingerly stepping his big toe in to Spin, a lost space that is so legendary we've already featured it twice on this podcast (once with Alexis P Bevels, and once with BB Kyle). In this episode we talk all about our quest to find identity, the difficulty of making friends, and what kind of sex we think MAGA supporters deserve (but, you probably already know the answer to that). Small town Illinois, moving to the big city, and Looking for identity, trying to make friends, navigating bad dates how straight friends are lovely but sometimes hold you back from getting down —————- Do you have any memories of Spin, or maybe a lost space from your own scene that you want to share? Well, if you have please get in touch - I want to create the biggest online record of people's memories and stories - go to www.lostspacespodcast.com and find the section 'Share a Lost Space' and tell me what you got up to! Bonus points for embarrassing photos! Is the magic in the new film In the Heights from Jon M. Chu's direction or from Lin-Manuel Miranda's original Broadway show? We definitely think it's Chu working wonders here to bring this show to vibrant life. Andy Nelson is joined in The Film Board this week by Mandy Kaplan and Justin Jaeger along with special guest Brian Rowe from the Film at Fifty Podcast to form our own artistic opinions of this film. The story doesn't wow any of us as much as we were hoping, but Chu creates a film that just oozes personality. He also casts the film with people that feel authentic and we love them all – Anthony Ramos, Melissa Barrera, Leslie Grace, Corey Hawkins, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Olga Merediz, Gregory Diaz IV, and Jimmy Smits. That's right, Jimmy Smits holds his own here with the singing and dancing! This is definitely one we recommend seeing on the big screen because Christopher Scott's choreography, the production design, and the rest of Chu's team made something epic. The Sports Bubble with Jensen Karp

Orlando City SC's goalkeeper Brian Rowe figured the birth of his first child would be the most unpredictable event he'd have in 2020, and boy was he wrong. In this episode, the MLS fan-favorite talks about the suspending of the MLS season after only 2 games and his quarantine life as a brand new father. He talks about how he and Jensen both came to name their sons "Adler" in one of the craziest coincidences you'll ever hear. You're gonna want to hear this. Then, Brian takes us through the eerie new protocols of his first day of individual practice as the MLS becomes the first major sports league in the US to allow players back to team facilities for training. Consider this a big "wakeup call" for what the sports landscape is gonna be like in our new "normal.” Plus, Jensen lures Brian back to his Oregon, hipper tie-dye roots and the two question how much Chuck Norris and Brett Favre's time is really worth. This episode proudly supports Orlando City SC's #ALLforORL campaign which helps raise funds for local businesses around Exploria Stadium and throughout Central Florida that are struggling during this time. We also discuss the Pride’s preseason loss at North Carolina and touch on the upcoming OCB opener on Saturday at Montverde Academy. Brian Rowe jumps on with us and talks about his arrival in Orlando, how he doesn’t really think about trying to replace a popular player like Joe Bendik, what song he sang in front of the whole team during the preseason trip to Bradenton, and much more. We apologize for a few minor audio glitches as the entire week was plagued with more technical gremlins than we’re used to, and we thank Brian for being a gracious guest and accommodating us.  After the interview, we answer listener mail, touch on the USMNT’s trip to Orlando (and also to Houston), and we give you our key match-ups and score predictions for Sunday’s match against D.C. The Frenchman has been a star for the Galaxy in their last three games. But is he living up to the hype? Was there hype? Was there buzz? And what does that mean for the Galaxy in terms of players they should be attracting? Finally, the guys get to answering all your questions as they talk about the good play from the rest of the squad. There are hypothetical questions that get ridiculous answers and there are some really good though provoking questions that also get ridiculous answers. Thanks for joining us. CoG Studios, CA - The LA Galaxy played some of their best soccer last Saturday night. But they also played some of their worst in the young season. Your hosts, CoG's Josh Guesman and LA Times Soccer Reporter, Kevin Baxter, will walk you through some of the issues that rose to the surface after the Galaxy's 4-2 loss to the Vancouver Whitecaps. First, Josh and Kevin give you their general thoughts on the game. And while it's not a full recap, I think you'll get the idea about what went right and what went wrong for the team. Clement Diop certainly shoulders some of the blame - his post game comments say as much - but is he going to learn what it means to be a starting goalkeeper for the Galaxy? Or is this more lip service from a kid who has made the same mistakes over and over again? Is it time for Brian Rowe to come back into the starting lineup? Then the guys will talk about the "spineless" Galaxy team. It was supposed to be their strength, but is this team weak down the middle? Are guys doing too much while others simply don't show up? Can one player be blamed for all of this? Josh and Kevin talk about the cascading collapse that has lead to a bunch of conceded goals and what looks to be a growing trend. Is Giovani dos Santos headed for the bench? Is Jermaine Jones to be blamed? And the guys will go into even greater depth on João Pedro. Was he the Galaxy's first choice? What is his problem in midfield? And why is he always chasing people on the counter attack? This is 60-minutes of Galaxy talk that covers all the issues with the team. Including the possibility of a locker room rift and a leadership gap that may not be filled by the right guys. You wanted 100% Galaxy talk. And we're going to give it to you. CoG Studios, CA - Your hosts Josh Guesman and LA Times Soccer Writer Kevin Baxter are back after the LA Galaxy's very first win of 2017. And because of that, there is plenty to talk about. First, Josh and Kevin will give you general thoughts on the Galaxy's win over Real Salt Lake. How much was the team helped by the red card to Kyle Beckerman? How much credit can you give Curt Onalfo for the subs he made in the second half? And how much of the first half problems were because of the lineup decisions? It's a great way to try and wrap your head around what a win against a 10-man side can tell you. The guys will also delve into whether or not "missing starters" can be an excuse for this young team and this young season. They'll also kick the can around the room as they discuss the growing 'keeper controversy. Brian Rowe was leftoff the 18-man roster because of injury. But did Clement Diop do enough to earn the starts from here on out? Or should Onalfo be playing it safe by going with Rowe? Is there enough of a divide between the two players? Should Rowe start once he's healthy? Then it's on to listener questions, as the guys cover everything from Zlatan and a "plan b" to whether or not Nathan Smith deserves to get the starts in Vancouver. Have we seen enough of the 22-year old defender to see him swipe up a starting spot? How much influence did he have on the game? Is this a "Los Dos" success story waiting to be written? And with Emmanuel Boateng's continued success against RSL, is it time for the winger to get a starting spot? Or is he better off the bench? We'll discuss all of that and a lot more right here on Corner of the Galaxy: From the Box. Music Provided by Back Pocket Memory

The LA Galaxy get bounced from the playoffs and we talk about the game, the season, and more with ESPN Soccer Columnist Jeff Carlisle. CoG Studios, CA - The LA Galaxy lost on penalty kicks to the Colorado Rapids on Sunday afternoon in the second leg of the Western Conference Semi-finals. It was 120 minutes of boring soccer with the Galaxy only recording a single, weak, rolling shot on goal for the entire game. But it was also a game that mirrored the LA Galaxy's season. On today's show, your hosts Josh Guesman and LA Galaxy Insider Adam Serrano are joined by ESPN Soccer Columnist Jeff Carlisle (@JeffreyCarlisle) to discuss the second leg failure for the Galaxy and highlight some of the key issues that were raised over the entirety of the game and the season. Jeff and the guys will discuss Bruce Arena's criticism of Brian Rowe and Giovani dos Santos, as well as the future of several players and the manager. They'll also discuss whether or not the Galaxy failed to implement their game plan on the Colorado, or if the Rapids simply played their game better. And finally, they'll cover how all the Designated Players fared in this game and whether that was a reflection of the season as a whole. Then Josh and Adam will continue their discussion going into detail about the game and the players that simply should have been more involved and accountable. Was this season just like 2013? Were the injuries just too much to take for an "old" team? Should Colorado have been able to scrape by a team as talented as the LA Galaxy? It's a sad and quick end to 2016 -- just like 2015 and 2013. How different will this team look in 2017? Who could be departing? Who could be staying? It's a great quick show with lots of insight into the last game of the season and the failure of the LA Galaxy to make any significant improvement over the year before. Won't you listen? CoG Studios, CA - Landon Donovan is officially back with the LA Galaxy. And while there's certainly reason to be excited if you're a Galaxy fan, your hosts are going to tell you why they think this might raise more questions that it answers. Josh Guesman and Wendy Thomas are back to give you their view on the LA Galaxy and it'll all start with a discussion on the LA Galaxy's draw with Real Salt Lake. A draw that probably should've been a win -- THANKS, BRIAN ROWE. They'll be joined on the show by Soccer Analyst extraordinaire, Brian Dunseth. Dunny called this game live from Real Salt Lake and he'll give you his perspective on the LA Galaxy's play and what he saw from Giovani dos Santos and conversely, what he saw from the Galaxy's goalkeeper. Then it's time to talk some Landon Donovan. Who knew that when we woke up this morning that all the show notes Josh had done the night before, would be completely useless? Josh & Wendy will give you their thoughts on the Galaxy's most recent signing and what you should expect from a man who hasn't played a competitive minute in 18 months. Will he be stealing playing time from some of the younger players? Who is he going to replace? And how much money is he making? It's a thoughtful look at an LA Galaxy legend who's returning to help his team when they need him the most. So will he play on Sunday? Finally, it's a quick look ahead to the LA Galaxy's match with Orlando City. We can all remember what happened the first time these two teams ever met (Orlando won 4-0). Or at least I'm sure a certain previous member of the Galaxy remembers. We'll clue you in. It's a packed show with your calls. Your Questions. Your complaints. We wouldn't have it done any other way. But what’s most important is Brian’s passion for building community within Magic: The Gathering. Brian is a warm and generous person and enjoys meeting everyone. His day job is in law, so we get to touch on some law stuff. Brian also loves chess and table top games. He’s working on a new project called Meeples Included where he writes strategy. Before talking with Brian, I wasn’t sure what a Meeple was. If you’re not sure either, Brian explains it to us. Do the Rumors about his contract negotiations make you think about signing him to another Designated Player contact? Can we say "pump the breaks?" Your hosts will talk about the All-Star game and why it isn't important in terms of the game, but perhaps important in growing the league. Would you want to change the format? Finally, your hosts will get you ready for the very unpredictable game on Sunday. The LA Galaxy travel up to Seattle to attempt to beat the Sounders for the third time in the month of July. And for the first time without Seattle's only Manager in their MLS history. To say this game is going to be emotional, reactionary, and full of intrigue is an understatement. This is one of those shows where arguments may carry all the way through, but bottom line is we're talking about your LA Galaxy. Are you going to get that anywhere else? Exactly! And what did you make of the LA Galaxy's offensive numbers? Is one shot enough? Or should we throw out the numbers in order to understand that LA did create some chances? The game vs Colorado probably opens up more questions than it answers. Then Josh and Wendy will turn their focus to the California Clasíco. It's the very first rivalry matchup in 2016 and San Jose is coming off two home wins that has them sitting atop of the Western Conference. With some dangerous players will the LA Galaxy's defense be stretched vs the Earthquakes? Or is the home form of San Jose just a fallacy? And what formation will Bruce Arena trot out against San Jose? Will Zardes finally get the start up top that everyone wants? Who's going to create in the midfield? And will Steven Gerrard be able to replicate his performance against Colorado? It's going to be a great game. Your hosts will also update you on injuries, team news, and all the new parking information the Galaxy have just released. We've got nearly 60 minutes of LA Galaxy talk and we can't wait to get to it! Music Provided by Back Pocket Memory.

On today's show we're quickly updating you on the loss to Houston, the departure of Penedo, the arrival of Ricketts and the giving you a short preview of the upcoming Colorado game. Josh was out of town for most of the week so here's your quick update on the LA Galaxy news and info you may've missed this week while he was away. He'll first talk briefly about the loss to the Houston Dynamo as LA Galaxy came out flat and uninterested against Houston in a game with all the heat and none of the excitement of a Texas showdown. Suspensions, National team call-ups and poor play doomed them from the first whistle. Then it's on to the departure of Jaime Penedo. If you've been listening long enough, this shouldn't surprise you. We've known about contract issues and Jaime being unhappy since the beginning of the season. This was just the final step in an action we've seen coming for awhile. So who do you get to replace Jaime Penedo? Well if this is 2009, you may've guessed Donovan Ricketts. Will he start? Or will Brian Rowe get the nod? Finally Josh will get you ready for the Saturday night matchup with the Colorado Rapids. The LA Galaxy haven't won on the road since August of 2014. So it's basically been a year. Will this be the one that finally gets them over the hump? Music Provided by Back Pocket Memory
