What's Your Baseline? Enterprise Architecture & Business Process Management Demystified
Why are so many organizations out there that have not discovered BPM (and in extension “architecture”) as something that can help their business problems, and also set the foundation for future growth? Some reasons might lie in the niche characteristics (to avoid saying “nerdy”) of BPM and the lack of shared community and branding. That is why we invited our current guest to the podcast. Hanneke's motto is to “Embrace the Chaos”: Creating structure during transition. She focuses on processes, finance, and systems with a human touch by implementing Business Process Management (BPM) so that she can be the linking pin between strategy and operations. Her background is within the range of Startups (CFO Laevo exoskeletons) and global Corporates (Schiphol Airport/ ETG commodities) in various Industries. Hanneke is an open and engaging personality with a fair and critical mindset — which one can hear within the first few minutes of the episode :-) In this episode of the podcast we are talking about: Hanneke's background in finance, process optimization (Lean/6S), and quality management The problem of lack of knowledge and objections about BPM in organizations The “carve out” concept and the use of a Target Operating Model The small BPM community Branding of BPM (the discipline, not tools) How to grow the community Hanneke can be found on LinkedIn and at her website, www.olcama.nl. Let's discuss the management lessons we can all learn from the bad guy Brad Wesley in the 1984 cult classic movie Road House. Believe it or not, he brings a lot of excellent management and leadership skills with him. I'm going to break them all down for you today. He utilized the following business development tools: work-life balance, delegation, strategy first, then action, working from a point of strength, getting your hands dirty, and doing what's necessary when it's necessary (within reason). Spoiler Alert (c'mon, this film has been out for three decades): Brad Wesley ultimately fails because his motivation (evil) and strategy (destroying all competition at any cost) are flawed. Don't fall into either of these self-imposed traps. Don't miss Pt1, the Business Process Management (BPM) lessons we can all learn from Dalton in Road House. In today's episode, we take a quick look at India's opportunity to expand its digital technologies ecosystem to tier-2 cities, but first, some headlines that caught my attention. Headlines that caught our attention Google is expanding its generative AI search experience to markets outside the US, starting with India and Japan, TechCrunch reports. The new AI-powered search feature, also known as SGE (Search Generative Experience), will be available through Google's Search Labs. Meanwhile, Chinese tech giant Baidu said that its ChatGPT-like Ernie bot was now open to the public at large, signalling a green light from Beijing, and another indication of a more relaxed policy stance on artificial intelligence, CNBC reports. In some cheer for the SaaS sector, Salesforce, cloud software bellwether, yesterday announced quarterly results and guidance that beat Wall Street's expectations, CNBC reports. As many of you might remember, India's Freshworks beat expectations with its June quarter earnings results on Aug. 2. One thing today Now, speaking of India's tech talent, that workforce is making it a destination for the next wave of foreign companies looking to establish centres for R&D, software development and engineering. And there is an opportunity to expand the ecosystem to tier-2 cities, Nasscom, the country's biggest tech lobby, and accounting consultancy firm Deloitte, say in a new report. The report examines talent, infrastructure, risk and regulatory environment, start-up ecosystem, and social and living environment, which are vital for establishing a flourishing technological landscape. And it spolights the potential of 26 cities in the country – from Chandigarh to Indore to Mysuru and Vishakapatnam – which could become an integrated part of India's tech ecosystem, Nasscom and Deloitte said in a press release on Aug. 29. Helped by rapid infrastructure growth, diverse skills, burgeoning start-ups, and governmental initiatives, these emerging hubs are gearing to achieve tier-1 status, according to the press release. “While big cities were the focus in the past, the post-pandemic era witnesses a remarkable decentralisation of work across the nation,” Sumeet Salwan, a partner at Deloitte India, said the press release. Today, about 60 percent of India's graduates in engineering, arts, and science come from smaller towns and 30 percent of total graduates relocate to tier-1 cities seeking employment, he said. The 26 promising locations identified in the report have the potential to become the epicentre of innovation and growth, according to the report. This trend is supported by a workforce skilled in cutting-edge digital technologies, with about 800,000 individuals located in these emerging hubs. And these cities are seeing strong additions to the number of people skilled in digital technologies. These locations currently account for 10-15 percent of India's tech talent. They provide promising growth potential when supported by the governments' commitment to world-class infrastructure, Salwan says. Take the “if you build it, they will come” approach, he says. Startups in these locations grew 50 percent from 2014-2018, with expectations of 2.2X growth by 2025, according to the report. These tier-2 locations also offer a cost advantage, including a 25-30 percent lower cost of talent and a 50 percent lower cost of real estate rentals compared with the large cities. So far, some 140 global capability centres have found a home in these locations, highlighting the growing interest of foreign companies in these emerging hubs, according to the report. “As companies worldwide revisit ways of working with an eye on optimising outcomes, costs, and talent, alternative tech hubs are becoming essential” Sukanya Roy, head, GCC and BPM, at Nasscom, says in the release. About 39 percent of the country's 7,000 or so startups operate in emerging hubs spanning industries from Deep Tech to Business Process Management (BPM), according to the report.

What is Business Process Management (BPM) and how can it benefit your business? BPM is an absolute dedication to the continual improvement of everything that makes up your business! To start, Golding Group (my business) Definition: Business Process Management (BPM) is a strategic approach to aligning company workflow, procedures, communication and human assets (talents) to create the most effective, efficient and manageable systems for sustainable business growth and longevity. BPM is a strategic approach to creating effectiveness, efficiency and dependability in the execution of business activity. By focusing on ALL processes necessary for day-to-day operations, you (business leader) can better manage your business outcomes. BPM creates the opportunity for constant improvement via communication, measurement and adjustment of internal and external processes. These improvements translate to efficiency in developing, creating, and delivering products and/or services. It's Saturday, I'm in the office, this is the #SaturdayMorningHustle. The often misunderstood concept and execution of Business Development is our topic this episode. Business Development (Biz Dev.) is NOT the simple idea of developing leads for sales. Instead, business development is improving your business by developing systems to maximize effectiveness and efficiency. Every aspect of a business (internal and external) can be improved, reviewed and improved again. Why is that important? There are 2 ways to create profitability. 1: Creating efficiency (lower internal cost). 2: Driving sales (more cash flow from external customers). Internal efficiency is much more controllable and won't interfere with customer experience or expectations. Dedication to business development reduces waste, improves productivity and creates efficiency. Success doesn't happen by accident. You must actively develop systems: rules, processes, guidelines, best practices and (most important) protocols for operations. That is business development. More on systems next week when we talk about Business Process Management (BPM) in part 5 of this series. It's Saturday, I'm in the office, this is the Saturday Morning Hustle. This podcast interview focuses on product innovation that has the power to shape working environments that increase our productivity and wellness. My guest is Tim Panagos, Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer at MicroshareTim is a technology executive with 20 years of experience in Enterprise Software. He’s a change agent and a vision setter who’s thrilled by building and sees the wisdom in maintaining. He believes that technology is a weapon for strategic competitive advantage, and is most productive when he can team with a business partner who shares his big ideasHe was most recently Chief Architect of Accenture’s global Business Process Management (BPM) practice leading architecture innovation. Prior to that, Tim was CTO at Knowledge Rules, a global consulting start-up and held multiple engineering leadership roles at Pegasystems (PEGA).He holds a Masters in the Management of Technology from MIT and studied Computer Science at UNH.In 2013 he co-founded Microshare™, where today he’s in charge of strategic product vision and the implementation of it. Microshare is all about squeezing more value from more data. The focus has been on harnessing and sharing previously hidden insights on client operations. This unveils vast cost-savings opportunities and delivers new metrics on occupant wellness, building performance and sustainability – and enables the businesses to deliver novel business models that will create new industries and disrupt existing. That inspired me, and hence I invited Tim to my Podcast. We explore how businesses are challenged to make the right and best decisions how to deploy the space they own or occupy, and how COVID has made that challenge worse. We address what opportunity we have in taking employee wellness and productivity to the next level when we bring in meaningful and live data from sensors into the picture. Beyond that we talk about what it takes to build a software business that create solutions that not only has an edge, but also keeps it.Here are some of his quotes:When I was leaving Accenture what I was being getting to see were that there were patterns in how these very large projects, 50 million hundred million dollar a year projects that were being executed, were combining technologies that I felt were ripe to be harvested and democratized. And so being a systems thinker, I began to kind of visualize how we could take and boil these will large projects down and create building blocks that would allow more people to take advantage of them. People who didn't have the budget or the risk profile necessary to launch a $50 million Accenture project to apply these things. How would we kind of redesign and reconceived these technologies to make it more broadly applicable?During this interview, you will learn four things:How to create solutions to aid decision making in areas where there’s a lot of human bias, emotional tension or invisible behaviour. How removing friction in the adoption and decision/buying process of enterprise solutions helps drive momentumHow data-privacy can become your key differentiator if you think about it differentlyHow you can grow faster and bigger by focusing with dedication on a smaller, less educated, and narrower defined marketFor more information about the guest from this week:Tim PanagosWebsite Microshare See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

In the first half of the episode, we focused on how we can prevent ourselves from a data-driven surveillance state. Contractor Success Map with Randal DeHart | Contractor Bookkeeping And Accounting Services
This Podcast Is Episode Number 0314, And It Will Be About Proven Tax Reducing Opportunities For Your Construction Company Accounting has two sides: Internal Accounting (Management Accounting) - for making money. Its purpose is to help you operate and grow your business profitability. External Accounting (Tax Accounting) - for paying taxes. Its purpose is to prepare tax forms, report your income, and make sure you pay your fair share of taxes. Understanding the difference will impact your company's financial health and wealth. Both groups of accountants must know the relationship between your internal bookkeeping and the Internal Revenue Service, and the importance of paying the right amount of taxes. There are a lot of professional bookkeepers, accountants, and tax preparers and they all serve a different role in your business. In-House Bookkeeping Contractors who do not earn a lot of money see bookkeeping as overhead which costs money and therefore is a drain on profits so they get a cheap computer, tiny monitor, garbage printer, small desk and broken down chair that even the dog would not sit in and tell the bookkeeper this is all the company can afford. In an effort to get their money's worth the contractor assigns all kinds of additional tasks to the bookkeeper like running business and personal errands; delivering materials, supplies, and paperwork to the job site, make coffee, answer the phones, take out the trash and clean the bathroom. Anything and everything to get "value" out of the time and money that is being wasted on bookkeeping. One of the biggest challenges construction company owners have with an in-house bookkeeper is training them to work for your best interest, not theirs, and deliver consistent results and the reports you can trust day after day, year after year. Do you suspect your bookkeeper is overwhelmed trying to figure out how to do construction accounting? They cost you more than they are worth in salary, fees, and profits. If you cannot get accurate financial reports, chances are you're overpaying your taxes. Outsourced Bookkeeping The other option would be to outsource your bookkeeping. However, there are red flags that you need to watch out for when going this route. You need someone who specializes in your industry that can guide and mentor you. Today more than ever, remote access to your QuickBooks or bookkeeping file is essential to monitor your business profitability, any outsourced bookkeeping service who cannot provide you with access to a cloud-based environment is doing you a disservice unless you don't want to see your financial documents. Furthermore, remember the value of your security; the cost of proper bookkeeping combined with secured cyber information is priceless. Trust but verify - consider this when looking for an accounting and bookkeeping company. My thirty years of experience in the construction industry as a contractor, a construction accountant, and a profit and growth coach enabled me to identify these opportunities that you can seize to help with your business process and lower your tax bills: Use The Right Accounting Method Construction bookkeeping and accounting are entirely different from standard accounting systems primarily because contractors take their entire business inside trucks and vans to people's homes and perform their services, deliver, or install products. Finding the right bookkeeping and accounting solution that will do "all I need it to do" is a challenge for construction contractors like you. It all depends on how you get paid, the type of work your company does, and if you need financial reporting (such as Job Costing for instance). Hire A Professional Construction Bookkeeper According to Malcolm Gladwell, author of the book "Outliers", it takes 10,000 hours of practice to master a skill. That is what your professional construction bookkeeper should have invested in practicing and learning to become competent and efficient in what they do. They continue to learn and supplement their knowledge with formal and informal classroom training, seminars, webinars, and related software applications - all related to construction bookkeeping and accounting. If your bookkeeper is untrained, who attended a one day seminar, watched some videos, took an online class, spent a few months working in an accounting firm, or is self-taught and believes in learning by experience (this means when they make a mistake you get to pay for it), then you almost certainly are spending a whole lot more in taxes than you should. Separate Bookkeeping And Taxes A good rule of the thumb is to understand that Financial Accounting, which is what needed for annual tax return preparation is not the same as Management Accounting which is what you need for Job Costing, Job Profitability, Budgeting, Forecasting, and Business Process Management (BPM). Income tax preparers earn money by filling out tax forms, not cleaning up QuickBooks or whatever bookkeeping software you are using. Most of them are not even familiar with QuickBooks let alone clean it up. Which means they could not care less if you are paying too much in taxes or if your QuickBooks file is a mess. If you think your tax preparer will catch the bookkeeping errors, think again. This is not what they are paid to do so they will not spend time and effort to review the details (of hundreds or thousands) of transactions to make sure they're all entered in the right accounts. Be sure to clean up your bookkeeping file before taking it to your tax preparer. In conclusion: Your tax bill is based on reports produced from your accounting system which is managed by your professional construction bookkeeper. The only way to do it right is to start right. Understand the value of a proper bookkeeping setup for construction. Putting receipts in your bookkeeping software is easy. Entering them in the right account, so the reports are reliable is where the professional bookkeepers excel the most. You worked hard for your money, don't let somebody waste it. If you are having cash flow problems, you could be paying too much in state, federal and local taxes and we may be able to help. Remember, if you are a contractor, you deserve to be wealthy because you bring value to other people's lives.

I've been wanting to do this episode for a while now, to place some context around why we have chosen the subjects we have, and where we have come from in terms of our thinking. Paul being away for the weekend has given me an ideal opportunity to sneak in with this one! 345 as an organisation stemmed from a great kickass dev team that the founders used to be in. When that particular team disbanded we left to form 345 and continue our good work. The specialisms we had adopted over the years did give 345 a particular focus on the following areas: Business process automation. Call it what you will - Straight Through Processing (STP), Business Process Management (BPM), Integration, Orchestration - all of these terms mean a similar thing. We spent a lot of time writing software that automated business processes. Microservices. When you're automating business processes you need to link steps of a process together, and each step can be expressed as a separate service. Microservices are borne from a set of architectural principles that require any such service to be independent from its peers. This was a natural follow-on from the work we did in step 1. IoT. Internet of Things - thousands, millions of devices connected over the Internet. Each transmitting and receiving data, which can be aggregated, transformed, stored, munged and mined to do a whole array of amazing things. We also look at what we do as a set of "pillars", i.e. areas that define how we work: Method. This pillar is all about how we build technology, and is the accumulated wisdom regarding how to build software, what you should think about to make sure you've covered all your bases, and what constitutes success. We focus on practice over process, because the right people doing the right things with the right goals will get you 90% of the way to your result. Automation. This is how we remove the drudgery of repetitive tasks from creative people so that can focus on what they do best: using their brains to imagine a better future. We let the robots do that they are best at: consistently working at repetitive tasks. Technology. We create stacks of technology that form the bedrock of proven solutions. Having pre-baked stacks helps us to focus on using technology to solve problems instead of worrying about whether we are using the right technology in the first place. In this episode we go through the previous episodes and show where they fit into the three pillars, and talk about what's coming up, especially what's in the pipeline with regard to single page applications and IoT!

Contractor Success Map with Randal DeHart | Contractor Bookkeeping And Accounting Services
This Podcast Is Episode Number 0124 And It Will Be About New Contractors To Seasoned Builders We Know What To Do We invested over 20 years owning and operating construction companies including service and remodel firms. We sold our last construction company in the year 2000 which means we are not your competitor, rather the opposite. We are experienced contractors helping contractors get more from their accounting system. A google search of construction accounting software will return over 17,000,000 results. It is estimated there are over 4,000 companies that produce construction accounting software. Among the top 10 the costs range from several thousand dollars to several hundred thousand dollars. QuickBooks is listed in only a fraction of the google searches for construction accounting software and yet it has a massive number of contractors who use it. A google search of construction accounting services will return over 52,000,000 results and www.FastEasyAccounting.com is always on the first page. The reason is we specialize in providing construction accounting, contractors accounting, contractor payroll and payroll tax processing, contractor bookkeeping services. We turn away a lot of companies because what they do is not related to construction. Our competitors, bless their hearts, are all things to all people. They accept any and all businesses, restaurants, bars, chiropractors, contractors, florists, trucking companies, babysitters, and more. They do not understand the complex nature of construction accounting vs regular accountingIn special cases we accept car repair, mobile food vendors and concessionaries, janitorial, house cleaners and other types of companies that are project based, which means they create and sell a unique product or service. As a contractor you need someone who truly understands you and what you do and someone who can offer you guidance when you ask for it.Contractors Often Ask How We Save - Them $100's or even $1,000's dollar a year when they can do the bookkeeping themselves or hire a Cheap Bookkeeper? Read our article Cheap Bookkeepers to find some shocking information revealed! The System Is The Solution - In 1991 while operating a successful construction service and repair business we started work on a Comprehensive Construction Bookkeeping System. Since then we have made thousands of improvements and we are continually updating, improving, innovating and enhancing it. Having worked with contractors and seen 100's of QuickBooks files, met with lots of bankers, bonding companies and commercial insurance brokers in addition to our own experiences owning and operating construction businesses.Contractors Who Are Doing Their Own Bookkeeping In-House should expect to invest at least $15,000 in office equipment and related technology and software. Contractors who outsource their bookkeeping to use can get by with less than $2,000 because all they need is a computer, notebook or tablet, printer and a scanner. See also What Ten Minutes Waste Costs Your Construction Company and you will get a better idea why the best construction accounting service you can afford is actually cheaper than trying to do it in-house.Fixed Price Contractor Bookkeeping Services Like Ours - Invest over $100,000+ in office equipment, technology and software plus another $150,000+ to renovate and prepare office space for staff and clients to use. Even with all of the costs incurred in having, a professional contractor’s bookkeeping service the amount of bookkeeping clients each one of our staff can handle is well over THREE TIMES the number clients most amateurs working alone or out of their home which is why in most cases we can provide more services and more bottom line results for contractors and do it all more for less money.Having owned and operated - Several construction businesses over the past 30+ years we understand a thing or two about best practices when it comes to Construction Bookkeeping And Construction Accounting as it relates to owning and operating a profitable construction business. In 2004 I Passed the PMP (Project Management Professional) exam after several years of construction project management experience and with an emphasis on systems engineering and process development. His exhaustive study of several leading experts including the work of Dr. W. Edward Deming, Michael Gerber, Walter A. Shewhart, James Lewis and dozens of others was the foundation upon which our Construction Bookkeeping System is based. One Of The Keys To Success - Is intelligent delegation, relying on processes, not abdication, letting people do whatever they please. This means we have processes and procedures for how tasks are done, in what order similar to an assembly line. The table and diagram below shows how tasks are delegated to the lowest skill level and yet everything is reviewed by a competent accountant! Contractor Success Map with Randal DeHart | Contractor Bookkeeping And Accounting Services
The BCG Matrix Is One Of The Tools Fast Easy Accounting Uses To Help Construction Contractors Increase Profits Developed By Bruce Henderson - For the Boston Consulting Group in 1968 to help corporations analyze business units or product lines. It helps companies allocate resources and is used as an analytical tool in brand marketing, product management, strategic management. No Two Construction - Companies are alike. Every construction company has a unique blend of ownership and management philosophies, tools, equipment, staff, field employees, geographic location, and relationships with suppliers, vendors and professional service providers. This Means - That if construction company "A" earns a better than average profit percentage on residential remodel it does not follow that company "B" will be able to do the same. Get Rich In A Niche - By finding your company's sweet spot, that particular thing you are good at, that people want and will pay good money for and that you are best suits you. Then you spend the majority of your time and effort developing your Business Process Management (BPM) to be the best and only company to service those clients and preferably dominate that market in your target geographic area. The BCG Matrix - Is one of the many tools in our BPM tool chest. We Job Profitability and Job Costing reports from a properly maintained QuickBooks file to map out a specific construction company's target markets. Cash Cows - Are construction projects that generate the highest gross margin. These projects typically generate cash in excess of the amount of cash needed to maintain the business. They are regarded as stable and boring and every contractor would be thrilled to own as many as possible. They are to be "milked" continuously and add more of them whenever possible. Dogs - Are construction projects that generate the least gross margin. These projects typically "break even" or lose money. Though owning a break-even unit provides the social benefit of providing jobs for your employees and possible synergies to assist other construction projects from an accounting point of view they are worthless because they reduce profits and the construction company's return on assets ratio which many investors, bankers and bonding companies use to decide how well a company is being managed. Question Marks - Are construction projects in new markets or a different type of work than the company has been doing which shows potential because they are growing rapidly. Beware of the fact they could consume a lot of cash while you are putting the processes in place to manage these projects. A question mark could prove itself and become a star, and eventually a cash cow. If the question mark does not prove profitable within 90 - 180 days, it may be wise to re-evaluate those projects. Eine Episode mit dem BPEL-Experten Daniel Lübke über Business Process Management (BPM) und die allgemeine Frage nach dessen Sinn und Unsinn.
SAP and Enterprise Trends Podcasts from Jon Reed (@jonerp) of diginomica.com
Continuing his ongoing podcast series with SearchSAP, Jon Reed interviews Marco ten Vaanholt, Global Director of the SAP BPX Community, for a compelling look at the changing SAP skill set and what it takes to become a "Business Process Expert." During the podcast, Marco describes his work with the SAP BPX community, and how BPX is working collectively to help define the skill set that SAP professionals will need to stay relevant on both the functional and technical side. Jon asked Marco to be on this podcast because during TechEd 2007, Marco's presentation on becoming an SAP Business Process Expert (BPE) provided the most practical "next steps" for how an SAP consultant can evolve their skills that Jon had yet seen. Marco came through on this podcast with an excellent overview of how the SAP market is changing, how BPX is supporting the SAP skills transition, and what consultants can do to keep their skills in line with the market. By the time the podcast is over, there is a clearer sense of how the SAP professional of today can involve themselves in the BPX community, honing their own skills while also contributing to SAP's product evolution. In this thirty-one minute interview, hosted by Jon Franke of SearchSAP, Jon and Marco talk about the following points: - How Marco got involved with SAP and how he wound up in his current role as the Global Director of the BPX community. - The origins of the SAP BPX community in 2006, and how it has achieved phenomenal growth (200,000 + members) through a grassroots approach to community building. Marco also shares the vision of BPX, the emergence of the industry forums, and the "horizontal and vertical" areas of BPX built around SAP's Business Suite, core ERP, and GRC products. - Marco explains why the BPX community has been so compelling to SAP professionals, by tapping into their desire to evolve into BPE (Business Process Expert) consultants and be better prepared for the eSOA era. - Marco also describes how the collaborative BPX community has also helped SAP partners reduce the "cost of ownership" around educating their consultants about eSOA. SAP customers have also turned to SAP BPX to help support their employees working on the SAP "Business Process Platform." - The SAP BPX community also influences SAP through its product management cycle. Marco explains how the SAP BPX world can serve as a feedback channel to SAP and also support the launch of new product initiatives going forward. - Jon asks Marco about the importance of the Business Process Expert (BPE), and why this person is going to be so important to the SAP implementations of the future. Marco shares the BPX community definition of the BPE: "This business process expert has both the business knowledge and IT savvy to make business process innovation happen in real time, by adapting, composing and executing business processes, using best practices, composition software, and enterprise services." - Marco explains that while there are many different definitions of BPEs, they most commonly describe themselves as having "one foot in IT, and one foot in business." Marco highlights the range of job roles that fit in under the Business Process Expert "umbrella role." - Jon brings up one of the most riveting aspects of Marco's TechEd presentation on becoming a BPE: the argument that both ABAP jobs and core functional configuration jobs are going to go away. Marco clarifies this point, and reframes the discussion to step back from the "shock value" of Jon's statement. Marco explains that ABAP and configuration jobs are not going to go away, but that it's important for all SAP professionals to acquire composition skills, especially technical consultants. - Marco talks about the evolving SAP Composition Environment (CE) and why both technical and functional SAP professionals will want to get experience with the CE going forward. He also hones in on the importance of "soft skills" and provides concrete examples of the types of "soft skills" that will be crucial, including industry expertise. - Marco emphasizes the importance of process modeling skills, and he mentions some of the modeling tools of today (Visio, Visual Composer, ARIS for NetWeaver) and tomorrow that both technical and functional SAP folks will want to get a handle on. - Jon and Marco agree that the "alarmist" view that the current SAP job roles are going away is not the right mindset. The right attitude is to make a commitment to transforming your skill set along with SAP. - Marco talks about other key skills of the "BPXer," including Business Process Management (BPM) methodology know-how and BPM tools like Six Sigma. He tells us why Web 2.0 and community-building skills are so important for the BPE, using blogging, wikis, and collaborative forums to "evangelize" your solutions throughout a global project. - Jon and Marco talk about how SAP professionals now have access to free resources to self-education. Since cost for training is not a barrier, it's more of a mindset shift: (1) getting access to new SAP technical information, and (2) joining communities like BPX to share "best practices" and lessons learned. - Marco makes some distinctions between sharing processes at "process level zero" versus "process level three," and why there is a difference between collaborating on "commoditized processes" versus working on more "disruptive" or strategic (level three) areas. This latter type of collaboration would likely take place in a closed area and shared with the broader community as appropriate. - Jon asks Marco about how today's "SAP functional configuration expert" and "SAP application consultant" of the present needs to evolve to become a BPE. Marco explains how the CE and other Business Process Platform modeling tools will change the relationship between functional and technical teams. He also talks about eSOA, and how, alongside the Enterprise Architect, the functional specialist will be working with SAP eSOA resources like the Enterprise Services Repository. - Jon Franke asks Marco about how to improve your soft skills, and Marco gives a "big picture" response that starts with how you carry yourself on client sites and work with executives and project teams, and goes on to include various areas of formal and informal education such as organizational change management, process modeling tools, Web 2.0 technologies, and Enterprise SOA. - Jon tries to put Marco on the spot by asking him to explain how the "disruptive innovation" he is advocating can exist alongside of SAP's customer message of "innovation without disruption." Marco explains that there is not a contradiction because the kind of innovation he is advocating takes place in a closed environment that does not involve disrupting the transactional system. - Marco also explains that the distinction between commodity processes and strategic processes comes into play when understanding the cycle of disruptive innovation. He uses the example of Nike's product rollouts and the cycle of innovation in the mobile technology space to describe the difference. - Marco issues a formal invitation for all listeners to get involved with the SAP BPX community. There is a robust "getting started" area to get new members involved quickly with the issues and projects that the BPX community is tackling. Marco also highlights the SAP upgrades area within SAP BPX as a great resource for project teams. - Jon wraps the podcast by talking about the shifting trends in SAP employment, and how it's easy to end this podcast because the next step is to sign up with SAP BPX and get further involved in your SAP skills transformation.
