Get ready for some laughs as we poke fun at Kamala Harris and Donald Trump's supposed dependencies on these handy devices. Then, switch gears with us as we dive into the NBA's upcoming season with wild predictions, from the Detroit Pistons' potential resurrection to the fantastical team-up of LeBron and Bronny James. Ever wondered if the "deep state" is more than just a figment of conspiracy theorists' imaginations? Let's chuckle at the tangled web of politics and conspiracy theories as we also journey to the unique world of University of Hawaii football, a late-night gambling gem. Could Hawaii be the next big player in securing a major TV deal, or is it all just a pipe dream? And remember, Hawaii's the 50th state, not the 49th—don't let the iconic "Hawaii Five-0" theme song fool you! Meanwhile, the antics of sports fans have us shaking our heads and laughing out loud, including tales of a sheriff's DUI and a man's hilariously audacious courtroom arrival. On the NFL front, gear up for heated predictions and insights into the Cardinals vs. Packers and Texans vs. Patriots showdowns. With key figures like Kyler Murray in the spotlight and the Patriots' coaching shakeup sans Bill Belichick, it's shaping up to be an intriguing week. We'll also veer into consumer protection territory, dissecting Albertsons' recent fine for deceptive pricing and contemplating where such penalties end up. As we wrap up, it's time for some birthday cheer! Join in the lighthearted celebration of my Los Angeles adventures, a mix-up with my name, and Tony's irresistible treats that sweeten the day. Throughout, we ponder whether our frustrations are self-inflicted or thanks to the world around us, all with a generous dose of humor.Gambling Mad with Norman Chad is written by Norman Chad and ghost written by...Norman Chad. Witness how political betting and daily fantasy sports intersect in a comedic journey filled with sharp critiques and unexpected twists. Imagine political contests that resemble allegiances in sports rather than serious debates on policy, and get ready as we humorously challenge Nate Silver's approach to election forecasting. John Oliver's take on daily fantasy sports doesn't escape our playful scrutiny either, as we highlight the quirks of the American landscape while cheekily poking fun at the British monarchy. My own betting prowess shines through a tale of triumph with a Kansas City Royals wager, paving the way for my NFL picks of the week—because who doesn't want to lose just a little bit less?Gambling Mad with Norman Chad is written by Norman Chad and ghost written by...Norman Chad. Is our reliance on digital payments leading us down a dangerous path? In this episode, we make a bold case for keeping cash alive in our increasingly cashless society, arguing that the tactile, immediate nature of cash transactions offers a simplicity and honesty that digital payments cannot. What a sigh of relief for those of us who aren't New York Knicks superfans! We need to give a big shout-out to the Indiana Pacers for giving us all a break from the relentless media frenzy. And for anyone who's flirted with lady luck in sports betting, I've got a story about Drake's latest misadventures that might sound uncomfortably familiar. Dan and Mattthew have put some solid time into the game. Kyle is broke but enthusiastic to listen to the boys describe this incredibly well crafted video game. They also chat design in Zelda and coin the term “dumpsterface”... Thank you, Bill Heywatt! And greetings, honored soundcast listener! I am Marc Hershon, your every-other-weekly host, creator, and executive producer of this here Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast. Special thanks to my erudite and unflappable alternating host of this show, Tyson Saner. Those who follow this show closely enough – is that you? – might have noticed that we missed dropping an episode a couple weeks ago, then Tyson picked up the slack last week with Epi315, which should have been my episode the preceding week. Following so far? Well, here's what happened. I was traveling for business. Not Succotash business but my day-job business, and I was clipping soundcasts while I was on the road. Listening to shows on planes, editing them in my hotel room,a nd trying to get it all together. Then I got “Delta shitty hand” – our keen-eared listener heard what I did there – and I had a flight cancel on the last leg before home. Not just before home, but before I could return to the Nerd Nest and my precious soundcasting equipment. Short story long, I couldn't get ‘er done in time to make it worth dropping for that week. It was going to be a show devoted to comedy sports soundcasts so I had to shelve that for a future show. And Tyson, bless his heart, reshuffled the show numbers so that in the box score that is the Succotash archives, no one will ever know that I screwed up. And now I owe my colleague one. Cash it in anytime, Tyson! If you happened to miss episode 315, entitled “the 3-Clip Tango”, Tyson featured snippets from a trio of comedy soundcasts which included The Winnebago Boys, Oxventure - A Dungeons & Dragons Podcast, and The Todd Glass Show. It was really a lovely roundup and I'd urge you to jump back a week in our feed and grab yourself an earful. Access that episode from your favorite soundcast dispensary, including – and I'm going to give you a pretty complete rundown here: Apple and Google Podcasts, Stitcher, Amazon Music, Audible, the Android app, Audacy, Blogger, Facebook, Gaana – not even sure what that is, iHeart Radio, the iPhone app, LinkedIn, Player.fm, PodBay, Pod Chaser, Radio Public, Soundcloud, Youtube, and now, after a lengthy boycott but now all is forgiven, back on Spotify. And, of course, every episode we've churned out over the last 11 and a half years can be scooped up in our archives at our homesite: SuccotashShow.com So now that I'm finally back in the saddle, what do I have in store for you for Episode 316, you might ask? Well, my sports comedy soundcast show I might do next time but for THIS week, as teased by Tyson at the end of the last episode, I have a Succotash Chat in store with none other than Blaine Capatch! Blaine is a standup comedian but oh, so much more. He's a writer, a sketch performer, a husband, a father, a son, and a druid. Well, he plays a druid on a soundcast we've featured here a few times over the years: Brian Posehn's Nerd Poker, a wonderfully funny and occasionally insane show where Brian, Blaine, and a clutch of other pals play Dungeons & Dragons. Before we get to the convo, I thought I'd set the stage a bit by playing a clip — since that's our main stock-in-trade here — from Nerd Poker and last week's action-packed episode. Beside Blaine and Brian, the rest of the cast includes Ken Daly, Sarah Guzzardo, Chris Tallman, dungeon Master Dan Telfer, and engineer Sam Kieffer. If you are unfamiliar with RPGs, that's Role Playing Games, and particularly Dungeons & Dragons, I can't help you. Well, I probably could – I've been playing since 1979 – but we just don't have the time. Blaine's and my acquaintanceship…acquantancy?… acquaintedness?… oes back a few decades to the San Francisco comedy scene which we talk about in our chat. All right. Without further ado, here is my chat with our special guest Blaine Capatch! Thanks to Blaine for jumping on the Zoomer with me for that. I would love to have the whole cast of Nerd Poker make their way in front of the Succotash microphones one of these days. Maybe I should Dungeon Master a game and invite them all to play! That could be cool and incredibly terrifying! One of the fun things their show features every week is, right after Dan Telfer thanks a bunch of their Patreon supporters, Blaine does a commercial from a variety of fake sponsors. Very much in the vein of our Henderson's Pants spots, but the advertisers are all different. Just to give you a sample, I went into their archives and slices out five different little ads he's read, and they sound a little like – no, actually, exactly like this… Blaine also makes funny, occasionally outrageous quips in real life, which you can can catch via his socials through his homogenous handles @BlaineCapatch on both Twitter and Instagram. In addition to NerdPoker.com, he's frequently a judge for Story Smash, the storytelling game show that's a spinoff of the Story Worthy soundcast from friend-of-the-show Christine Blackburn And, as he mentions look for him performing around LA in Lucha VaVOOM!, the burlesque and Mexican wrestling spectacular. Episode 316 is now officially over except for the outro and closing credits from Mr. Heywatt. Thanks again to our special guest this week, Blaine Capatch. Subscribe to us from any of your favorite places and Tyson Saner will be heading your way in this same feed next week with Epi317. My latest review in Vulture.com this Month in Comedy Podcasts, featuring Nikki Glaser guesting on Marc Maron's WTF is still up – there's a link to it up in the blog entry for this week's episode at our homesite SuccotashShow.com. And, other than that, if you happen to find a runaway dog wandering the streets and it seems friendly and you pick it up and read the ID tag and it reads, “Have you heard anything good lately?”, won't you please pass the Succotash? — Marc Hershon
Dan Telfer is my very Cool Friend and I'm STOKED he could take a minute to chat with me about a bunch of the cool stuff he does, such as being a professional nerd with Nerd Poker and Cortex RPG, a fantastic standup with tons of material available to listen to, our favorite nerdy spots, being the Senior Editor of Mad Magazine and just fountains of other nerdy things to whet your dorky little appetites. Empire Strikes Back Special Edition Minute 66 with Dan Telfer
Yes, it’s me. Marc Hershon. Your host and corporeal being for Epi153 of Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast. And this is another installment of Succotash Clips, where we feature clips of comedy soundcasts from all over the place. As far as this epi goes, we’ve got clips coming up in this installment from Chillpak Hollywood Hour, Crazytown, The David Feldman Show, Harmontown, The Jackie & Laurie Show, Nerd Poker, Nerds with Words, PTO Unlimited, and Studio 60 Sessions. In addition, we also have a double dose of our Burst O’ Durst segment, featuring political comedian and social commentator Will Durst. And this episode is brought to you by Henderson’s Pants CoverALLs. Big thanks our Associate Producer Tyson Saner for harvesting half of the shows you’re going to hear on this episode – he does a great job finding new shows for this show and he also has his own soundcast, The Anti Social Show, along with Hunter Block, who is also a friend of this show. They just got their show up on iTunes so check ‘em out there, or on SoundCloud. Speaking of iTunes, if you’d like to be a friend of this show as well and have not yet rated and reviewed Succotash on iTunes, please do so. It doesn’t cost you a cent and it really helps our visibility in Soundcastland. For that matter if you listen to us on the Laughable app, or Stitcher, or SoundCloud, it would be great if you’d rate us using whatever system they’ve got going on. Same goes for YouTube and iHeart Radio, two more fab spots to hear our spew. WELCOME US TO PATREON I just popped the top on our new Succotash Patreon account. That’s right, we're now part of the Patreon soundcast life support system. I’m not quite sure what I’m doing with it yet, so I think the only option currently available is for you to kick us $1 a month, for which we will thank you every show in our Calvalcade of Gratitude. And I also think there’s a thing that’s live that if we get 250 followers on Patreon, I will commit to churing out an episode each and every week on a regular release day. So check out that page at https://www.patreon.com/succotash THE CLIPS The David Feldman ShowA soundcast that’s been around for a while in various forms is The David Feldman Show. David is a former standup comedian who I’ve known since he first got on stage in the San Francisco area. He took off years ago, heading for LA and then New York, where he’s been a writer on a bunch of TV shows. He’s been a guest on Succotash before – back in Epi108 – and I tickled that he asked me to be on his show just a couple of weeks ago. Chillpak Hollywood HourNormally for our friends in soundcasting, Dean Haglund and Phil Leirness, of Chillpak Hollywood Hour fame, I reserve playing clips unless they’re mentioning me because I’m just that self-absorbed. But a couple of weeks back the boys were on the road across the great US of A – Dean was even in the country from Australia where he’s been living the past couple of years – and they were at a Famous Monsters convention in Dallas, Texas. And they were not alone but, instead, sat down with Bruce Harwood and Tom Braidwood, the two actors who had co-starred with Dean as the trio known as The Lone Gunmen, first on The X-Files TV show and then for a season in their spin-off, The Lone Gunmen. HarmontownOne of Tyson Saner’s picks for this episode is from a soundcast that we’ve featured before but it’s always a delight to drop in and see what latest bits of outrageousness are going on over in Dan Harmon's Harmontown. In this case, the clip we have is from back in March, when Harmontown had been annexed to Austin, Texas, as part of South By Southwest. Harmon was on hand along with Jeff Davis and Spencer Crittendon. Nerd PokerAt the end of April this year, a version of the defunct Nerd Poker with Brian Posehn & Friends soundcast snuck back into Soundcastland. Now called Brian Posehn’s Nerd Poker, it’s not network affiliated any more and so rather than being recorded in the Earwolf Studios, the action happens in Brian Posehn’s home in LA. The DM is Dan Telfer and, in addition to Brian, the players include Brian, Blaine Capatch, and Ken Daly, all of whom were in the original crew. We feature a slice from a recent episode where the characters are fighting something that might just be a werewolf. Crazy TownIt may be called Crazy Town, but the host, Jonaas, takes pains on the homesite to make sure no one’s offended by things that happen on the show – here’s part of his disclaimer: “Let me be serious with everyone for a second. This podcast is all about having fun and being goofy and poking fun at things. Nothing should be taken super serious, and the hosts and anyone else involved in this podcast are great people who have no prejudices of any sort, in any way, shape or form. This podcast is a work of fiction, please keep that in mind even though real life events and stories are discussed. If anyone is offended or feels that they have been wronged, let us please apologize up front as that is not our intent in any way, shape or form.” Make you really curious what you’re about to hear though, right? The Jackie & Laurie ShowWe get a glimpse into the glamorous show biz lives of Jackie Kashian and Laurie Kilmartin. Jackie has had her Soundcast, The Dork Forest, for years now, but she and Laurie teamed up last year to put out The Jackie & Laurie Show, which is usually the two hosts talking about performing in comedy as woman, the state of comedy today, and reminiscing about various hell gigs over the years. But Laurie was a recent guest on Conan and so, in an episode entitled Show Yourself Out, she and Jackie headed backstage just before that appearance to do their show from there. (Producer's Note: Our host f'd up royally in this episode and called the show "Show Yourself Out". The dork has even reviewed Jackie and Laurie's soundcast before so I…er…he should have known better…) Nerds With WordsTyson snipped us off a hunk of a soundcast called Nerds with Words, featuring Adam Nutter and Greg Trout. It’s not to be mistaken with, or for, Nerdz with Wordz where the esses in "nerds" and "words" are spelled with a z. Totally different soundcast. Our clip is from a recent show featuring guest Joe Messina,a comedian and soundcaster who just shut down his show Breaking Up with Joe, where he recounted the details of a painful breakup he had gone through. He has a stage show called Party Lines and we pick up here mid-discussion about that show. PTOUnlimitedAnother “new to us” soundcast is PTO Unlimited, hosted by Brett, Josh, and Alyx. The PTO part – I think – comes from “paid time off” and the Unlimited part is from the fact they will talk about unlimited topics. Their SoundCloud page says there are from “Fort Wayne, United States.” I’m guessing that’s in Indiana, too. Anyway, Tyson flipped us this clip, where the hosts kick around the movie Ghost Ship from 2002. The Studio 60 SessionsAn old friend of Succotash is Travis Clark. He and his wife, Brandi, had their soundcast, Tiny Odd Conversations, up and running for quite some time. I think TOC is offcially in the Soundcast Graveyard now, as their last episode was posted in March of last year, but Travis popped up this last week as the first guest on a new soundcast called The Studio 60 Sessions. Another fine example of niche programming, this show is devoted to a TV show called Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, which was on NBC over a decade ago. (You can find the series on Amazon and other online places. It seems Travis had been a fan of the show and he joins Studio 60 Sessions host Dave Amiott to chat about the pilot episode of the TV show. CLOSING REMARKS If you're a comedy soundcaster and would like us to feature your show on our show, you can get us a 3-5 minute MP3 clip (no promos, please!) by uploading it directly to me via our direct upload link, at http://hightail.com/u/Succotash. And please tell us a little about you and the show itself, including the homesite, distribution points, etc. Our next epi will likely be an installment of Succotash Chats, with a surprise guest who's actually making his fourth appearance on the show! Until next time, thanks for passing the Succotash! — Marc Hershon

We did it. It's the first episode of The Dana Gould Hour podcast for 2016 and we juuuust missed January but when I tell you I had homework this month, I had homework. But everything's getting turned in on time and hopefully, we'll have some cool stuff to announce in the not too distant future. Lots of stuff coming up this year including my new special and album, tentatively entitled Mighty Mouth. More about that in the not-too-distant future, where, as Elvis Costello sang, everything will be free. This is kind of a special episode. I saw Star Wars and had very mixed emotions about it. Nothing to do with the movie, but my reaction to it was somewhat strange, and so I have, quite bluntly, my two closest friends in the word on to talk about it -- Ken Daly and Rob Cohen. But, since we know each other SO well I was afraid the conversation would devolve into a series of grunts and eye-rolls, we brought in a ringer, comedian Dan Telfer, who's CD Ocean Of Panic, you can buy. Dan is a Star Wars-knowin' motherfucker and it's a deep dish conversation that goes to some surprising places and I think you'll enjoy it. Also, the always hilarious and entertaining April Richardson is here (@APEY) and her partner in crime and comedy, life and love (but not really) Chris Fairbanks, (@ChrisFairbanks).And as for ME? The movie Southbound hits theaters and I believe VOD in Feb. 5th. Called "A cinematic miracle" by Roger Ebert.com, Southbound a is terrific little horror movie if you like that sort of thing, so go git it. Feb 18, 19 and 20th, 2016 I will be at The Comedy Bar in Toronto, Ontario. I will be at The Wheeler Opera House in Aspen on March 11, 2016 and Helium in Portland, Oregon, land of food trucks, on March 24, 25 and 26th, 2016. Adam Burke and Dan Telfer join me for a discussion of science, Mars, Wikileaks and Julian Assange, Sally Ride, and our military-industrial complex. Dan tells a story of terror from 1998. Adam is angry about Pussy Riot. If you asked me what my ideal episode of this podcast would sound like when I first started, it would be a lot like this. My guests are smart, engaged, and disagree with me. I'm wrong a lot on this episode.

It's MBMBaM's first live show ever -- and man, what a way to start our on-stage career! Not because we did a particularly good job, but because we very nearly talked about child pornography for a few minutes. We grabbed that bull right by the horns, and we stared at its eyes, and we said, "No, we probably shouldn't talk about child pornography. That's illegal." Thanks to Jordan, Jesse Go for setting up such a special, intimate night, Dan Telfer for his special, intimate hosting, and every single person who came out to Second City for the show! You guys are, as ever, the cat's 'jamas.
