There are some friendships we just need to let go of. In some instances, this means letting go of an aspect of a friendship. In others, this actually means letting go of an entire friendship.Today's guest is Emily Rogers, a transition and leadership coach and the host of the Leap to Lead podcast (which I was recently a guest on; link in the show notes!). Emily has lived overseas for 20 years and has personally navigated many moves and transitions. She says that with each transition comes a spring cleaning of sorts with past connections, which requires stepping back and reflecting on the energy of these relationships. Can you alter the expectations of this friendship? How will you connect? Is it time to let go entirely?Hopefully this episode helps you navigate those transitions with more grace and intention, so that, if you desire, those old friendships can still thrive in their new forms. In this episode you'll hear about:The different kinds of life transitions that affect friendship: physical moves; starting a family; a new romantic relationship; a medical emergency; finishing school, etc.Instances in which you SHOULDN'T do the work (for example: a toxic relationship; lack of capacity; you simply don't want to)Recognizing energy: when it's right, when it's not right, and when it's time to shift your friendships (and remembering that what feels right now might not feel right later!)The impact of taking a step back six to eight months after a big move or life transition to make sure your friendships aren't draining (or sliming!) youManaging interactions with draining people you have to spend time with (for example, doing an activity together or only hanging out in groups)Resources & LinksListen to Emily's podcast, The Leap to Lead, which I was recently a guest on!Go back to Episode 12 and learn about my theory about the Roots Framework.Like what you hear? New Sermon Series - I'll Be There for You I begin a new three-part sermon series on January 7 titled I'll Be There for You. You may recognize the title, the iconic theme song for the popular '90s sitcom Friends. The inspiration for the series comes from reading former Friends star Matthew Perry's autobiography, Friends, Lovers, and The Big Terrible Thing. I'm approaching this series through the TV show and Matthew Perry's poignantly haunting memoir. His open and honest approach to his struggles provides valuable insights. Part 1 is titled "Can I Interest You in a Sarcastic Comment?" That is a quote from Chandler, the Matthew Perry character, who unfortunately does not have much wisdom but has a lot of sarcasm! The sermon is also based on John 15: 12-17, which contains the beautiful words of Jesus to his disciples: " I do not call you servants any longer...but I have called you friends." Emily Rogers, our Director of Digital Content, Strategy, and Worship Coordinator, noted that this series will help us see how this ancient word still has powerful meaning in our contemporary world.

Memorable Moments:10:17 My legacy Leadership Program is all about helping people get clearer about who they want to influence, how they want to influence, and the positive change that they want to create in people's lives, in their communities, and in their families.13:14 Women tend to underestimate themselves and their leadership effectiveness. And they're always surprised and humbled to see how effective they truly are when we conduct a leadership assessment in the form of a 360. Women underestimate themselves and they are often underestimated in the workplace, just due to gender bias. Beliefs that people hold about women's place in the workplace, women's place in the world, and some of those things are generational and there's still a stronghold on some of those old, outdated beliefs. And women also struggle more with work life integration than men. Career planning can be a little bit more dynamic for women, just because their priorities can ebb and flow as they choose to have families and focus on different areas of their life or their work. Many of the leadership challenges are the same, but there's some gender differences that are unique to women.29:28 The advice I often give the women leaders that I work with is don't give away your power. Women's empowerment has been at the core of Tandem Nomads' mission since it started. Entrepreneurship is indeed one of the most effective tools for women to live up to their full potential and create their own source of financial independence while aligning their business with their priorities in life. The countless women who came before us fought for the privileges we enjoy today, which is why it is our responsibility to live up to our full potential and continue to pave the way for the ones coming after us. In this episode, we look at where we are today regarding women's rights and opportunities in our society and in our world. What can we celebrate and where do we need to see more progress? We also reflect on what women need today to live up to their full potential. In order to answer these questions, I invited some of the most active members of the Tandem Nomads' community to share their take and insights on this topic: Cath Brew is an LGBTQ+ inclusion consultant who supports LGBTQ+ allies looking to step into confident active allyship. The old saying, "what you don't know can't hurt you," isn't always good advice. When it comes to toxic substances, what you know can indeed help you. Some examples of what we didn't know that does hurt us are radon in basements, lead in drinking water, exhausts from cars and chemicals released from landfills are just a few examples of toxic substances that can hurt you. By understanding how, we can reduce our exposure to chemicals and reduce our risk of harmful health effects and harm to our environment. Some substances are more toxic than others. The toxicity of a substance is described by the types of effects it causes and its potency. How harmful toxic substances are is also dependent on the dosage, exposure, route of exposure, exposure medium, length of exposure and other factors. So what you know can indeed help you and to help us better understand this are Jennifer Horney, Professor and Founding Director of the Epidemiology Program at the Disaster Research Center and Emily Rogers, U.S. PIRG's Zero Out Toxics advocate. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/healthy-radio/support

As a high-achieving woman and a left-brained/logical/analytical person, I've been perfectly comfortable living and working from my head. However, I've begun to realize over the past couple of years that leadership and coaching and, really, being human is about your heart. My guest is Emily Rogers, a high-achieving woman who has learned to tap into her somatic wisdom and helps her executive coaching clients with that as well. Emily had a very successful career as an executive in a high-profile role in a very male-dominated industry. And then one day her coach asked her, “What if you led with your heart?” Emily resisted that for a while, until she recognized what a benefit that would be for her team and for herself. If you wonder what it takes to start your own portable business, or if you doubt if you can do it, this episode is for you! Emily Rogers will share with you how she found her business idea, tested it, launched it, and learned from her clients to keep growing it, all of this in just one year! “I asked myself what kind of role model do I want to be for my daughters.” But there is another bonus she did not expect from starting her business, which is how it allowed her to grow personally, as a woman and as a mom. In this episode, Emily will share how starting her business changed her. You will also hear some of the surprising conversations that her business has led her to have with her daughters, and how she changed the way she communicates with them thanks to that. (https://tandem-nomads.ck.page/c8d8af8654) Emily Rogers comes from Australia and has been living overseas for 20 years. She met her husband in New Zealand while working in hotel management. She had then shifted her career becoming an HR manager for Greater China in a professional services firm. A career she had to put on hold as her husband’s job took them to Hong Kong, Mumbai (where their first daughter was born), New Delhi (where their second daughter was born), Chongqing, Taipei and now New Zealand. While raising her daughters on the move, Emily got involved in the field of leadership and capacity development as a Senior Action Learning Coach with the World Institute for Action Learning. She also volunteered in her daughters’ schools and various NGOs. However, as her daughters grew and she had more time for herself, Emily realized that she wanted something more and wanted to make a bigger impact. That is when she joined the Business Idea Accelerator program and found the right business idea for her. In just under one year, Emily managed to launch her business called Expat Parenting Abroad (https://expatparentingabroad.com/) and got her first clients while testing her innovative business concept. Expat Parenting Abroad provides support groups for expat moms in a very different way than anything else that exists on the market, she also provides individual coaching services. What you will learn What helped her find her business idea What did she learn while starting and growing her business Why does she say that this experience changed her as a mom Resources and inspiration Check out related podcast episodes and important info on the topic: From Trailing Spouse to Expat Entrepreneur: Common Ground (http://www.expitterpattica.com/2018/03/20/from-trailing-spouse-to-expat-entrepreneur-common-ground) Find Emily online Expact Parenting Abroad (https://expatparentingabroad.com/) Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/expatparentingabroad/) Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/expatparentingabroad/) Linkedin (https://www.linkedin.com/in/emilyrogers1/) Take action now: Sign up for the free webinar How to find the right business idea for you!
