Toch eerst even opzoeken…) Altijd met een lach en nooit een slecht humeur (bijna nooit). Schuif aan bij jouw fotografievrienden op de maandagochtend!
For many doctors a career in medicine seems like a conveyor belt, but increasingly people are willing to take stock and consider what it is that they want in their lives, and what kind of a career suits them. This may be decisions relating to specialties, locations, allied roles, leadership roles, or wholesale changes. In this episode, Giles Croft tells me about career decisions that he has made. We identify that slowing down matters, happiness is an inside job, and we create a six point plan for career transitions.Giles is a psychology graduate and former NHS surgeon who stepped aside from clinical practice to seek happiness in a number of alternative career paths, including health informatics, cycling journalism, public speaking and high street retail with his wife. Ultimately he realised what we all know to be true — that happiness is indeed an ‘inside job' — and since 2018 has been helping individuals and groups to rediscover their own ‘Innate Health' as a speaker, coach and trainer. He has worked extensively with busy Health & Social Care staff, and his 6 week Reconnect Programme was recently found by the UK's What Works Centre for Wellbeing, to be the most effective way to improve staff wellbeing and mental health, out of more than 200 different interventions across the UK. Giles writes a monthly wellbeing column in the South Wales-based Focus Magazine, runs a free monthly online meet-up called ‘Wellbeing Wednesdays' and lives in Abergavenny with his wife and 10 year old daughter. You can connect with him:Email: dr@gilespcroft.com Website: https://gilespcroft.comWellbeing Wednesdays: https://gilespcroft.com/wellbeing/ YouTube channel: https://youtube.com/drgilespcroftFacebook page: https://facebook.com/drgilespcroftTwitter/X: https://twitter.com/gilespcroftLinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/drgilespcroftListen at https://matdaniel.net/podcast/; https://open.spotify.com/show/1j8uLaUU1g5bYTRVuwUX7j?si=672ec26a73164d7f; https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/doctors-at-work/id1701284564; or watch on www.youtube.com/@dr-coach/videos.Production: Shot by PolachekYou can find out more about Mat's coaching to help doctors create successful and meaningful careers at www.MatDaniel.net.
It's one thing to not be included in social activities, but the perceived intention shifts for people who are living with visible or invisible disabilities. Questions like, “How much did my disability play into me being excluded?” or “Do my friends really not like having me around?” quickly create a sense of doubt and self-worth. We know. We've both been there. Join us for this episode of “A Couple Takes on MS,” as we delve into the crucial topic of inclusion and shine a spotlight on the significance of embracing individuals with both visible and invisible disabilities. Throughout the episode, we explore the challenges we've faced and get real about the often-overlooked struggles we've dealt with in living with disabilities that are seen and unseen. Here are the links to the articles we discussed: • Sure, I Have MS. But What About Me? – A deeply personal essay by Jennifer about feeling left out potentially because of her wheelchair that appeared on multiplesclereosis.net. • Inclusive retail: Target sees me and my disability – Jennifer's essay about the Santa in a wheelchair and why inclusion and representation of people with disabilities always matters. • Why Is Inclusion Important in Multiple Sclerosis? – Informative essay by Annette Okai, MD, from MS Focus Magazine
CNN adds some new (colorful) faces to primetime CNN announced on Monday a sweeping new lineup, elevating a new generation of rising stars to key time slots as they try to improve their lackluster ratings. It seems the network is attempting to recreate the viewership figures that came along with former President Donald Trump's term in the Oval Office. CNN is coming out ahead of the 2024 presidential election cycle with two African American women leading the charge. The schedule reboot gives weeknight shows to Abby Phillip and Laura Coates. The three-letter network said that Phillip, who is the current host of "Inside Politics Sunday," will become an integral member of the network's special politics coverage in the coming months and will anchor a 10:00 PM primetime program out of New York. Laura Coates, the network's recently promoted chief legal analyst, will helm a show from Washington, D.C. Congratulations to both of these women. They certainly deserve the bump up. Loretta Jones knocked unconscious in unprovoked attack Loretta Jones, the wife of Bishop Noel Jones, pastor of the megachurch City of Refuge here in Los Angeles, was punched in the face and knocked unconscious by a random woman in an apparent unprovoked attack at their church on Sunday, according to L.A. Focus Magazine. One witness said the woman walked up to the first lady and coldcocked her from out of nowhere. Security did detain the unnamed woman as she shouted something like, 'I did it because she gave my daughter cancer.' At least that's what I've heard. Anyway, the first lady was apparently transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment. Her status remains unknown. I've been trying to find more on this story. The church has not issued any kind of a statement. But I find it very interesting that none of the other news outlets have picked up on this story. By the way, Bishop Noel Jones is the twin brother of iconic entertainer, Grace Jones. We wish them all well over there. And you know what? I bet a lot of folks will turn up on Sunday though to see what's going on. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Neil Koenig, former BBC series producer, now ideaXme board advisor and interviewer, talks with Kristina Lunz, Co-founder Centre For Feminist Foreign Policy. The battle of women for equality has been underway for centuries. But campaigners believe the rewards of success would be great; as Emily Venturi, a speaker at the 1878 International Congress of Women's Rights in Paris put it, “the world would be transformed”. Today, the push continues. One area where advocates believe progress is being made is in the field of foreign policy. Kristina Lunz is an entrepreneur, author and activist. She is also co-founder of the Centre for Feminist Foreign Policy. I caught up with her at this year's Symposium, an annual event organised by the students of the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland. The Small Business Association of Michigan’s Small Business Weekly Podcast
On today's SBAM Weekly Podcast, Michael Rogers talks with David Rhoa, owner of D2R Consulting in Kalamazoo. He recently wrote an article about life and business planning for SBAM's Focus Magazine. “Over the past two years, I've had a number of conversations with small business owners who've stated that economic uncertainty was making it very difficult for them to develop contingency plans for their business,” he says. “It was those conversations that served as the inspiration for the article.” The Small Business Association of Michigan is the only statewide and state-based association that focuses solely on serving the needs of Michigan's small business community. We have been successfully serving small businesses like yours in all 83 counties of Michigan since 1969. We're located in Lansing, just one block from the Capitol. Our mission is to help Michigan small businesses succeed by promoting entrepreneurship, leveraging buying power and engaging in political advocacy. When small businesses band together through the Small Business Association of Michigan, they achieve more than they could on their own. Our 30,000+ members are as diverse as Michigan's economy. From accountants to appliance stores, manufacturers to medical, and restaurants to retailers, what unites the SBAM membership is the spirit of entrepreneurship…a spirit that drove you to start and continue to operate your own business because you believe you can do something better than anyone else is doing it! Back out in the world! We are so happy to see dental lab shows start up again because we miss recording face-to-face so much. Elvis was down at the Preat (https://preat.com/) booth at the Florida Dental Laboratory Association (https://www.fdla.net/)symposium last June. While working the booth, Elvis was able to chat with a few attendees. First up is Don Hebert CDT from Phoenix Dental Design (https://phoenixdentaldesigns.com/) talking about opening his own lab after being laid off during COVID. A great “rising from the ashes story”. Then we chat with Ricardo Marrero who is a young enthusiastic laboratory technician that is helping his dad run a satellite lab in North Carolina for a big lab in Florida called GPS Dental Lab (http://www.gpsdental.com/). And then, because we love to chat with the incoming president of the FDLA, Dory Sartoris from DCS Dental Lab (https://www.dcslab.com/) comes on to talk about how the post-covid show was and what the FDLA is working on to benefit the labs in Florida. Whip Mix (https://www.whipmix.com/)'s new Veriwash (https://www.whipmix.com/products/veriwash/) resin cleaning station is the ideal piece of equipment to use in the 3D printed resin post process. It's oscillating, multi-speed stirrer produces a tornado-like vortex every 30-seconds, and guarantees efficient, effective and powerful cleaning whether the units are individual or still attached to the build plate. The two alcohol baths make an effective step-wash system. It cleans more efficiently and there is less alcohol needed, since it is re-used for both a fresh bath and a dirty bath. The VeriWash's intelligent design offers features such as Mode, Time, and Start/Stop button display which gives the operator full and automatic control of the cleaning process. A mesh basket used in the wash container makes it easy to keep track of small printed parts when cleaning. The affordable unit's one-year warranty ensures peace-of-mind for the owner. Visit whipmix.com (https://www.whipmix.com/) or call (800) 626-5651 for more information about this great new product. Special Guests: Don Hebert CDT, Dory Sartoris, and Ricardo Marrero .

In this unique podcast experience, the Best Coast Political Podcast teams with the Capital Daily to bring listeners a revealing look at one of B.C.'s most beguiling towns: Langford. Recently voted the most liveable city in Canada, it's often criticized for its endless sprawl, bland suburban geographies, and stagnant local government. How to square the circle? The expert panel includes Aaron Guillen (Capital Daily), Maleea Acker (Univ. of Victoria and Focus Magazine), and Jeremy Caradonna and Matt Dell (Best Coast Political Podcast). The panel takes on numerous topics in this long-form discussion, including the sketchy origins of Bear Mountain and its subsequent bankruptcy, the Danbrook One tower fiasco, the destruction of rare Garry Oak ecosystems in the area, the lack of urban planning, perceived conflicts of interest between industry and local politicians, and the secretive, closed-door nature of local governance. Stew Young has been mayor for nearly 30 years, ever since the town incorporated in the early 90s, and there has been little turnover on the city council over the years. So what is Langford's true identity? Does it have a 'democracy deficit? And where does it go from here?

Google has a well deserved reputation for being an innovative organization, and that’s by design. Because while it’s a popular buzzword, innovation as an enterprise-level priority really does make a difference in a company’s capacity to adapt, grow and thrive. That’s why Google does so much to foster creativity. It informs who they hire, how they acculturate employees, how they design workspaces, how employees collaborate, and so on. We’re excited to have as our guest Frederik G. Pferdt, Google’s Chief Innovation Evangelist and Adjunct Professor at Stanford University.
