Gaslit Nation
Russia and America vs. The Free World

Gaslit Nation

America joined Russia, Iran, North Korea, and Israel, led by indicted corrupt criminal and Putin pal Netanyahu, wanted for war crimes, to vote against Ukraine's United Nations resolution calling for peace and an end to Russia's genocidal invasion. In this week's Gaslit Nation, Andrea and Terrell Starr, of the Black Diplomats Podcast and Substack, joining from Kyiv, explain how we got here and what to do about it. Fascism helped build America, and global resistance to fascism will help us overcome the threats we face in this dangerous crossroads for America, and the world.    People are waking up from their shock and fighting back. Over $250,000 was raised on GoFundMe for Dr. Teresa Borrenpohl, the woman roughly dragged out of a town hall. The sheriff who threatened her with arrest from the stage is under investigation, along with his three unidentified rent-a-cops. Protests continue at Tesla dealerships, as well as Republican town halls across the country. Tesla owners face vandalism threats and pay to remove the logo, as the company's stock plummets. Twenty-one civil servants of the United States Digital Service, taken over by DOGE, resigned, writing in their letter: “We swore to serve the American people and uphold our oath to the Constitution across presidential administrations. However, it has become clear that we can no longer honor those commitments.” France's President Emmanuel Macron fact checked Trump at the White House and helped a banned AP reporter ask a question, and promised to strengthen security across Europe, including for Ukraine. At the Governors Ball in the White House, before Trump, the Army Choir sang the resistance anthem against tyranny, from Les Miserables, "Do You Hear the People Sing?"    To help us lift up our hearts and minds for the work ahead, this week's bonus show, for our Patreon members at the Truth-teller level and higher, is our recorded first ever Gaslit Nation book club, looking at Albert Camus' The Stranger (Matthew Ward translation) and Viktor Frankl's Man's Search for Meaning, to see what wisdom they hold for us today, and how these two works “talk to each other.” Thank you to everyone who supports the show–we could not make Gaslit Nation without you!   Want to enjoy Gaslit Nation ad-free? On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by G Flip. G Flip recently wrapped a lengthy run across North America and the U.K. in support of their latest album, Drummer, including a stop at the final day of Governors Ball in NYC. The appropriately titled album, which came out last summer, is a love letter to the instrument that made them fall in love with music — while also serving as a tribute to their late drum teacher, Jenny Rose Morrish. “She was very integral to my life,” they told Rolling Stone in 2023. “I honestly think if I didn't have her in my life, I wouldn't be sitting here with you. I just happened to have the best teacher in the world.” Listen to their conversation on Artist Friendly wherever you listen to podcasts. Seye Adelekan is a Nigerian-British artist who's toured with Lana Del Rey, Emeli Sandé, KT Tunstall, and Paloma Faith; though he is best known as a prominent live member of Gorillaz's touring party. I first saw Seye onstage at Governors Ball way back in 2014, performing alongside Damon Albarn. Since then, I've been a fan, and seeing his growth as an artist over the years has been something special. Along with being an in-demand touring musician, Seye has also started to release his own solo music. His latest songs have so far explored various shades of human emotions, while also being draped with this tone of intimacy and expansiveness that speaks to his years of experience as an artist. On this premiere episode of the podcast, Seye shares with me his experiences of finding refuge in creativity amidst navigating sobriety, embracing his cultural roots, and also what happens when you start believing in yourself.

We had the pleasure of interviewing MAY-A over Zoom video!Australian singer-songwriter, MAY-A, will recently released her new EP, ANALYSIS PARALYSIS.You probably know MAY-A from her collab with Australian electronic superstar Flume, “Say Nothing (Feat. MAY-A).” The EP features focus track, “Guilty Conscience,” and previously released singles “Sweat You Out My System,” “Your Funeral,” “LOLA” and “Something Familiar.” The 7-track project also includes the brand new “Ifyoulikeitlikethat” and “SUPERIOR LIAR,” while showing MAY-A's continued exploration and experimentation with new sounds and experiences.ABOUT MAY-AEP singles “Your Funeral” and “Sweat You Out My System” were both met by global applause upon their release this spring, with PAPER praising the latter track as “anthemic ‘90s-style rock…a heated breakup track, which likens a split to going cold turkey and captures all the anxiety and intensity that implies.” “The new pop/rock-meets-semi-rap track brilliantly recontextualizes the indie-pop stylings fans have grown accustomed to from the Australian phenom,” agreed Billboard. “MAY-A leans all the way in with punchy guitars and blown-out drums. Her lyricism remains top-shelf.” “The self-deprecating ‘Your Funeral' finds (MAY-A) leaning into more alt-pop-based sonics,” declared Ones To Watch, “as she unpacks her relationship habits with satirical lyricism flowing above a driving beat.”The ongoing series of new releases follows an incredibly successful 2022 for MAY-A, which included her ARIA Award-nominated collaboration with Australian electronic superstar Flume, “Say Nothing (Feat. MAY-A),” which reached #12 on Billboard's “Hot Dance/Electronic Songs” chart amidst a storm of high-profile media attention from Billboard, Complex and more. MAY-A joined Flume for performances of “Say Nothing” during show-stopping sets at last year's Coachella and Governors Ball as well as on his sold-out US and Australian headline tours. MAY-A also unveiled her own unique rendition, “Say Nothing (MAY-A's Version),” hailed by NME as “a total tone shift from the duo's original, stripping out the song's driving beat and Flume's electronic elements. Instead, MAY-A opts for hauntingly hazy vocals, acoustic guitar and spacious, lo-fi production, letting the vulnerability of the song's lyrics shine through.”Nominated for Rolling Stone Australia's “Best New Artist” award and hailed by Billboard as “a master class in indie pop,” MAY-A made her extraordinary debut with 2021's acclaimed Don't Kiss Ur Friends. The EP – which received a prestigious ARIA Award nomination for “Breakthrough Artist – Release” in MAY-A's home country of Australia – includes such inventive and self-assured tracks as “Swing Of Things,” “Time I Love To Waste,” “Green,” and “Central Station.“Known as a dynamic and inventive live performer, MAY-A supported 5 Seconds of Summer on their recent Australian headline tour and joined Wallows on the UK/EU leg of their landmark Tell Me That It's Over World Tour, earning praise by DORK as “an artist bringing all their anticipated hype to life.”We want to hear from you! As Soccer Mommy, Sophie Allison released her third studio album, Sometimes, Forever, in June of 2022 on the Loma Vista Recordings label. The album has received widespread acclaim. Paste magazine gave it 8.5 out of 10. Pitchfork's review, an 8 out of 10, noting Allison's "characteristic humor and wit amidst bitterness and melancholy." The Guardian's four-out-of-five star review called it "warm, toothsome pop with icy blasts of angst." Soccer Mommy had a busy 2022 on the road. Allison and her band spent the spring touring North America and played the Governors Ball festival in New York in June before heading to Europe for festival and club dates through the end of September. Back in the U.S. Soccer Mommy performed at the Pavement museum in New York City on Oct. 1 — covering three Pavement songs. The Road Trip Playlists Podcast

This week on The Road Trip Playlists Podcast, I am excited to introduce Cole and Dawson from the pop trio almost monday. The group started together in San Diego as high schoolers in a garage band, and they tell the story of a cold email to Mark Needham, who has produced for The Killers and Fleetwood Mac, found them introduced to frequent collaborator Simon Oscroft (The Naked and Famous, DREAMERS) and the groups 2020 debut EP don't say you're ordinary was born. The band has quickly amassed over 100 million total streams and played giant stages like Lollapalooza, Governors Ball, and Bonnaroo. The group recently released two summer anthems, ‘sun keeps on shining and ‘sunburn,' which the band noted as an excellent song for any road trip playlists. Listen to the full interview or check it out on roadtripplaylists.com. Thanks again, don't forget to subscribe and review to the show for more interviews. Quavo and Takeoff have announced that Migos will take part in an upcoming battle of the bands event — but without Offset. On Tuesday (July 26), the National Battle of the Bands (NBOTB) revealed the group would be appearing on stage at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, but a flier for the event only appears to show Quavo and Takeoff. “The addition of world-famous hip hop act, Migos, to the 2022 National Battle of the Bands lineup is a gigantic milestone, merging popular hip hop with the spirit and soul of music produced by our nation's finest HBCU marching bands,” NBOTB executive producer Derek Webber said in a statement. “We're thrilled that spectators will get to see the iconic band showcase and a premier hip hop performance with the same ticket.” Break-up rumors have continued to swirl since May when Quavo and Takeoff released a new track called “Hotel Lobby” under the moniker Unc & Phew. Eagle eyed fans also noticed that Offset and his wife Cardi B had both unfollowed Quavo and Takeoff on social media prior to the track's release. While all three rappers have remained tight-lipped on the situation, there have been multiple situations that point to a Migos fall out. The trio notably dropped out of their scheduled performance at The Governors Ball in New York City back in June, and Quavo followed up the cancelation by dropping off a ‘Day in the Life' TikTok that was noticeably devoid of any appearance from his cousin. source: Quavo & Takeoff Announce Migos Show Without Offset | HipHopDX --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/masseffect/support

BIA and J.Cole have shared the video for their new single ‘London'. Watch the video below. The video for the “braggadocious” track, which is also said to be “highly influenced by UK drill” in a release, was recorded in an overcast London. In the clip, the American rapper, born Bianca Miquela Landrau, goes shopping, has a tea party, and raps British slang while hanging out in the capital. “He never met no one like me / It's pretty funny how now they all like me, innit?” she says in the track, before Cole joins her, rapping: “Blokes going broke tryin' to keep up with Cole, but I make it back soon as I spend it.” The theme of luxury in the video, is similar to the subject matter of BIA's 2020 platinum single, ‘Whole Lotta Money' which Nicki Minaj remixed on the deluxe version of her ‘For Certain' EP. “I damn near didn't even wanna put this clip up cuz I need everybody to hear this shit PURE. How I heard it!” J. Cole said in an Instagram post about ‘London'. He added: “I Asked BIA to come through the studio for some whole other shit. First time meeting her. We chop it up. She plays me this new song she had just did. Mannnnnnn in that moment I was blown away.” He went on to say that he thought about the song for a month, calling it his “favourite” even though he'd only heard it one time. Cole then shared that he loved the track so much, he wanted to collab on it. J. Cole has plans to play multiple festival dates in the coming months, including New York City's Governors Ball in June and London's Wireless Festival in July. source: Bia and J. 21 Savage rolled into New York this weekend and hit up Akademiks, and a last minute request from Ak had him pop into the podcast before his set at Governors Ball. As usual, he was brutally honest about everything. He was accompanied by his manager and Clubhouse superstar Meezy. 21 Savage started out describing the differences between people who 10 years ago prioritized mixtape sites to get access music over legitimate ways. Akademiks was shocked to hear that his favorite Drake might not be seen by some in Atlanta as the biggest rapper in the game because of perspective. We then talk about the first time 21 Savage ever heard a full Drake album and also speak on Verzuz from a perspective of Atlanta vs Everybody. 21 Savage states that there are more Atlanta rappers in the top 30 right now than any other region or city. Meezy and 21 Savage tries to stage a intervention and squash the issues between Meek Mill and Akademiks even resulting in 21 Savage attempting to call Meek Mill on the podcast. This brings up another interesting situation in music about picking sides. NBA Youngboy is used as a example of why he didn't get the full support of the industry when his album dropped. 21 Savage and Meezy both admit that at times even in music, you can't play the middle and after a situation has gone too far you have to pick a side. He even says he wouldn't want to be on Donda after knowing Drake would put him on Certified Lover Boy. Finally Meezy and 21 Savage give their side of the story to the 6ix9ine situation where they were in the same club and 6ix9ine brought it up on our very first podcast with Wack 100. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/offtherecord-djakademiks/support

Jared Svenning approaches her about some money he was promised, he tells her about his tv station, the one that draws the lotto numbers, and how they're putting on a live show this weekend from the mall. The camera pans up to Brandi stargazing, trying to finish a paper, when TS finds her, and asks if shes coming to watch his last performance. As they part, looking forward to a Florida trip, Brandi tells TS shes helping her father with a tv dating game, so she can't go with him. Brandis hair gets caught in the trigger, prompting security to return fire. They realize its Svennings daughter, and the governor tears up his check. TS tries to apologize, and Svenning tells him off. Brandi breaks up with him, even after he says he was going to propose in Florida. Cut to intro credits. Brodie is woken up by Rene, they argue about breakfast, and Rene confesses that she cries in the bathroom, Brodie asks why, (SOUND 1)C. As she exits his room, so his mom doesn't see her, she breaks up with him. TS arrives to Brodies with the press close behind. The commiserate being dumped by their women. Brodie thinks he was dumped because he farted when Rene was going down on him the week prior, then he suggests going to the mall. They head to Brandis house, but the press are waiting, so Brodie runs interference and tells some wild stories about satanic masses and goat sex...Trey, does it remind you of Fraternity initiation? As Brandi and TS attempt to make up, he becomes super possessive and she pulls away again. Svenning is caught naked, and chases everyone away. They finally arrive at the mall, with Brodie giving TS some hard truths. S:-TS calling her stupid science major... Mmmm... Nah.-Ever fart on a girl going down on you?-TS just tries to "forget about" what happened...-Rooker doing the boxing in the mirror... Def see "stump" when the towel falls. Never noticed that before...-I also don't remember the musket in the hair thing As they enter the mall, Brodie is bumped into by Shannon, the manager of fashionable male. Tense words are exchanged, and they carry on, to find a stage being built. Looking for answers, they ask Willam, who is trying to see a magic eye poster (SOUND 2), but he informs them the stage is for Svennings show. Brodie suggests sabotaging the show/stage, enter Jay and Silent Bob (SOUND 3). They agree to wreak havoc by removing one critical cross beam, while trying to avoid Mall Cop LaFlours. Willam looses his shit when a little girl sees a schooner (SOUND 4)...followed by Brodie explainning how Superman would, or wouldn't be able to have sex with women (SOUND 5)...then if the cookie shack is part of the food court (which it's not). Brodie approaches Rene and gets set straight. Jay and Silent Bob attempt their first plan, (SOUND 6) which is derailed by a kids wooden toy and Bob crashes into the womens change room. After a weird segue, Brodie and TS meet Trisha who is 15 and writing a book about the Sexual drive of men 18-30...and it's revealed she slept with Shannon, and 49 other dudes, like Tucker, while Brodie can't let go of the kid on the escalator. Trying to get into the comic shop, and he almost starts a fight, finally finding out Stan Lee is signing comics. Jay and Silent Bob try plan #2, with Bob flying through the air, over LaFlours...but missing the pin and crashing into another womens change room. TS and Brodie commiserate again about Stan Lee and being broken up with, when Jay and Silent Bob hide from LaFlours, and give up on trashing the stage... when they see Rene with Shannon. TS runs interferance, and Brodie takes her in the elevator, so they can scream and argue at each other, when she attacks his libedo, and they have sex in the elevator... Which doesn't change anything, and she calls his dick small. Gwen surprises TS, and he elbows her in the tit, telling him she saw Brandi by the stage. He goes and to confronts Svenning, who admits he did want them to break up. TS, Brodie and Gwen share some exposition, and history, with Brodie using where to put your arm when you sleep with someone as a metaphor for his relationship with Rene. Brodie goes to get a drink, and Shannon grabs him, and kicks the shit out of him, eventually telling him his plan of banging her somewhere very uncomfortable, like the back of a Volkswagon, Brodie agrees to leave her alone, and Shanon leaves...without leaving him $20. m S:-Were ya'll able to do the magic eye posters?-They use a LOT of words and don't say anything.-Weirdest place you've ever had sex?-Anyone else think its gross she tries on panties like that?-Whichever version I'm watching, there are a lot of differences, and the beating went MUCH longer than I remember. TS and Gwen find Brodie, who blames the easter bunny for kicking his ass. Jay and Silent Bob then go assault the easter bunny, with the kids joining in. Gwen goes and tells Brandi TS is there and that he's a great guy. Svennings assistant comes to fetch TS, and Brodie suggests TS stink palm him, using his own hand as an example. TS speaks with Svenning, which he's obviously is stalling for time, and takes issue when TS mentions marrying Brandi, he tells a bit about their history, her mother being 15, himself 14 when she was born. Explaining to him how and why TS will not marry his daughter because of her bright future, and that he has no ambition, no chance of making it, and he will not be marrying his daughter. Brodie arrives, and applies said stink palm, even giving some chocolate covered pretzels, which he greedily eats. Security pounces on the boys, and takes him away, with Svenning keeping the pretzels... As the security guards drag TS and Brodie, they yell at Renae to get Jay and Silent Bob, who she finds with Willam staring at the magic eye, setting up one of the best jokes in the movie, when Willam looks at Rene and says, "Brenda?" Jay and Silent Bob rescue Brodie and TS from security, and then grapple hook to safety. Brodie and TS hide at the 'dirt mall' and go to get some sage advice from Ivana, the topless palm reader. TS is totally against the topless reading, but Brodie is into it... Until she takes off her top, and they switch. Brodie is grossed out, and TS becomes enamored. As they leave, she peels of the thrid nipple and eats it. They return to the mall, with his plan to get on the tv show. TS approaches Jay and Silent Bob for help. Brodie is oogling some lingerie, when he's approached by Stan Lee. S:-I remember the stink palm, but have any of y'all ever done it? Jay approaches the contestants to smoke them out. Brodie is asking Stan Lee all sorts inappropriate questions about super heros dicks, and like Tucker, was disappointed when he wouldn't tell (SOUND 6.5). Stan talks with him about relationships and women, which Stan had a running count with Mick Jagger, and that he was ahead. He gives Brodie a long story about the one that got away, and how he'd give everything up for one more day with her (SOUND 7). He leaves, and Brodie takes off. TS thanks Stan for talking to Brodie, who has gotten Silent Bob and Trisha to help him. TS and Brodie take the place of the two suiters Jay smoked out. Svenning barfs when he sees TS and Brodie on the stage. Brandi comes on stage (like I've done once or twice), and starts asking questions to the suiters, with some fairly funny responses(SOUND 8). Brodie continues make fun of every answer Gil makes, making everyone laugh, and infuriating Svenning. They continue, when Brodie tells a story about his uncle started beating off on an airplane when they think they're going to die. Brandi figures out TS and Brodie are on the stage, and they have their confrontation. Brodie eloquently sums everything up (SOUND 9) Everyone applauds, except Gill and Svenning. Outside, the police arrives. Stan Lee walks by Willam commenting, "oh, a sailboat" sending Willam on a rage. As the host is wrapping up the show, and Brodie confesses his love for Rene, and Shannon starts to come at him to beat him again, Silent Bob is trying to reach the tape that was dropped, as Willam laments about not seeing the sail boat, Brodie calls on Silent Bob, who can't reach the tape, Willam hits the support, knocking the tape in to Bobs hands as he was trying to jedi mind trick it, with a look directly at the camera, he plays the tape of Shannon banging Trisha, and the cops arrest him. The cops allow one punch to the gut... Is that a California law? I know in Alabama we get WAY more punches before and after being arrested, right Tucker? Jay asks Bob how the got the tape, with the Jedi mind trick, prompting Bobs only line: "Adventure, excitement, a Jedi craves not these things." Brodie and Rene make up. Svenning is trying to convince the network guys to give him another shot, that they decline, but want Brodie for a network talk show host. Svenning is arrested for FCC violations... As it ends, Brodie has taken over hosting duties of the Tonight Show, but still lives with his parents. Rene became his band leader, Svenning got his network position, in prison. TS and Brandi got married when Jaws pops out of the water at Universal Studios, Tricias book spent 72 weeks on the new york times best seller list, with a movie coming out (with LaFlours running her security, and probably a few trains). Shannon made new friends in prison, and Willam eventually saw the boat, Jay and Silent Bob is a whole different story... roll credits. Loses something over the years. It's juvenile and obviously unrealistic. Not really ever having watch a ton of Kevin Smith movies or the View Askew-niverse movies, I found this one the most relatable and fun as a kid, because we all liked to go to the mall. But it dates itself, and not well. Web: https://theguysreview.simplecast.com/EM: theguysreviewpod@gmail.comIG: @TheGuysReviewPodTW: @The_GuysReviewFB: https://facebook.com/TheGuysReviewPod/

As a creator of the legendary Spago Beverly Hills' chocolate "Oscars" at The Governors Ball and as a mentor on The Great American Baking Show, Chef Sherry exudes and shares her passion for creating sweet and memorable moments through flavor with Kitchen Chat's co-hosts Margaret McSweeney and Chef Jaime Laurita. On this special podcast, Chef Sherry has some great advice for aspiring "cheftesants" for The Great American Baking Show. In addition, she highlights a great memory with Julia Child and gives a lesson on ganache from her first cookbook, The Secrets of Baking: Simple Techniques for Sophisticated Desserts and spotlights her favorites in Desserts by the Yard: From Brooklyn to Beverly Hills: Recipes from the Sweetest Life Ever.
