This week, Andrew shows up for a minute before his night-night time, and then leaves Kevin and Lauren to fend for themselves to discuss Alien: Earth, Caught Stealing, Eenie Meanie, Oh, Hi!, Night Always Comes, The Gilded Age, and Peacemaker. Since Andrew is on borrowed time this week, he and Kevin quickly break down the latest episode of Alien: Earth. I have a feeling this will be a theme over the next few weeks... As with the previous episodes, this one does not disappoint. We are digging into these new characters and discovering some wild new species and skills that are making this show a must watch so far. After tucking Andrew in and singing him a lullaby, the show moves on with Lauren discussing her sneak peak of Caught Stealing. This one stars Austin Butler, Zoe Kravitz, and a handful of other big names. It's a solid action dramedy that seems to be exactly what the previews led us to believe - this is Darren Aronofsky channeling Guy Ritchie and it sounds like it worked pretty well. Next up, Kevin talks about the new Samara Weaving film, Eenie Meanie. This film is somehow both good and bad, corny and dramatic, and fun and sad. Trailers will definitely give shades of Gone in 60 Seconds or Baby Driver, and that's not entirely wrong, but at some point, the film siwtches up on you and tries to give to feels, which is arguably when it becomes the better film. Weaving is really solid, so if there's no other reason to watch, check her performance out. Heading out to the theater, Lauren discusses the film Oh, Hi! starring Molly Gordon and Logan Lerman. Imagine a genderswapped Gerlad's Game, but also a comedy.. If it sounds insane, well, it is a little. But with that being said, it is a lot of fun, if not chaotic. The crux of the story is that, when a woman finds out her latest love is a player, she puts him in a position where he has no choice but to face his decisions. Yeah, it's nuts, but it's fun! In an effort to kill that light mood, Kevin talks about the emotional suckage that is, Night Always Comes. It stars rising actress Vanessa Kirby as a down on her luck woman who needs to get $25,000 in a single night to save her family. In most films, this would turn into a fun caper, but here we spiral with this woman, diving deeper and deeper into her painful past. While Kirby is fantastic in the part, the film lacks any semblance of joy and ends with an odd decision, sure to leave you wishing you'd done almost anyting else with your time. As we power towards the end of the episode, Lauren brings joy back to our lives. She start watching, and quickly finished, The Gilded Age on HBO. It's a period piece, a la Downton Abbey, but in the US and a few decades earlier. Loosely based on the Venderbilt family, it's a story of new vs old money and all of the complications that come with high society. With standout performances from Carrie Coon, Christine Baransky, and Taisa Farmiga, this one is not to be missed. Kevin brings the show to a close with a quick review of the season 2 premiere of Peacemaker. If you watched season 1, this is more of the same, but in the best of ways. Gunn manages to retcon the DCEU in a fun way without disrespecting that universe. This season begins Peacemaker's multiversal journey into his own existential crisis. While absolutely hilarious, and expectedly raunchy, it has some wondeful heartfelt moments that are setting up some major decisions for Peacemaker to deal with throughout the season. As always, thank you for watching. If you haven't already, don't forget to Like & Subscribe. We love new viewers! Also, leave us comments and let is know how we are doing and what we can be doing better. Enjoy the episode and have a great week! Winding down the latest episode of SURFACE NOISE is this here FREESTYLE segment, where our panelists just can't get enough of the G.G. Allin talk. Following a couple deep breaths, the conversation turns to a deeper discussion on the discography of the band Suicide, and somehow, someway, the Beatles Mono box set re-enters the VCP orbit (don't ask us how). Naturally, the conversation has to include the biggest news drop of the week: the latest Taylor Swift record (the kids call it 'TS12'). Is Taylor the greatest self marketer of our time? Probably. All this and a deep dive into Guy Ritchie and Madonna movies (wish we were making this up), only on the latest FREESTYLE, courtesy of the gents of SURFACE NOISE.

We talk all things adaptation, Will Smith, transnational cinema, and more. Join us now as we dance around and analyze Aladdin.
In Episode #240 of the XS Noize Podcast, Mark Millar is joined by Billy Lunn and Charlotte Cooper, from The Subways, to mark the 20th anniversary of their debut album Young For Eternity and the release of their new compilation album When I'm With You. Formed in the early 2000s, The Subways became one of the UK's most exciting indie rock bands, bursting onto the scene in 2005 with the release of Young For Eternity and their breakout hit “Rock & Roll Queen.” The track went on to feature in The OC, Guy Ritchie's film RocknRolla, and on the FIFA soundtrack — catapulting the band to an international audience. Now, two decades later, The Subways are revisiting their roots, re-recording “Rock & Roll Queen” with fresh energy, and bringing together fan favourites, deep cuts, and two brand new songs — “I Need To Feel You Closer” and “Passenger's Side” — on their 2025 compilation When I'm With You. In this in-depth interview, The Subways discuss: The process of re-recording “Rock & Roll Queen” for its 20th anniversary, Memories from the early days of Young For Eternity and their rise to fame, How drummer Camille Phillips has brought a new dynamic to the band's sound, Career-defining gigs — from basement clubs to Glastonbury Festival, What fans can expect from The Subways For Eternity Tour 2025. If you're a fan of indie rock anthems, 2000s British guitar bands, or the raw live energy of The Subways, this episode is packed with nostalgia, behind-the-scenes stories, and an exciting look at what's next for the band. In this episode, we break down Guy Ritchie's The Gentlemen (2019). We analyze the twisted layers of crime, class, and swagger as Matthew McConaughey's Mickey Pearson tries to sell his marijuana empire while rubbing shoulders with the UK's high society. We dissect Fletcher's duplicitous narration from Hugh Grant, the knockout performances, and Ritchie's knack for sharp dialogue, swift editing, and his signature blend of violence and wit. Join us as we uncover the elegance of The Gentlemen, and what makes this Guy Ritchie film a controversial throwback with modern bite.Chapters:00:00 Everything that is pure Guy Ritchie15:30 Cool characters & dicey dialogue23:33 Hugh Grant GRINDED for this movie26:01 Matthew McConaughey and American-English fashion32:38 Guy Ritchie bringing this movie more full circle34:01 Guy Ritchie's storytelling 40:44 Where would you get a pound of flesh52:46 Our official rating54:59 Final thoughts58:26 Cue the music
Grab your sour-patch straws, stop sour punching your straw, and join us as we slip into the impeccably tailored, morally dubious world of The Man from U.N.C.L.E., where Henry Cavill smirks his way through the Cold War and Armie Hammer glowers in various shades of “angry Russian.” We talk about the opening Berlin chase, the world's suavest tablecloth yank, and why Guy Ritchie clearly decided style was more important than historical accuracy—or sometimes, basic physics. Also, everyone is ridiculously good-looking, and yes, we noticed. Repeatedly. Somewhere between the CIA, the KGB, and whatever Hugh Grant is doing in this movie, there's a plot about nuclear warheads, a fake engagement, and a fashion show that doubles as spycraft. We pick apart the “unlikely partners” dynamic, try to decide if Gaby is the actual MVP, and get distracted by the soundtrack every time Roberta Flack or Nina Simone shows up. (Seriously, this might be the most our Spotify queues have been influenced by a rewatch.) Naturally, we wander into side quests: our rankings of cinematic buddy duos, a brief tangent about how many spy movies would be ruined if the characters had iPhones, and Elise's theory that Cavill's Solo is basically James Bond on a heavy sedative. Somewhere in there we debate who in the group could actually pull off a 1960s double-breasted suit. Spoiler: not all of us. By the end, we're in Istanbul, the team's assembled, and we're low-key mad this stylish mess never got a sequel. If you're into slick visuals, flirty banter, and the occasional implausible stunt involving vintage cars, you might want to give this one another spin—preferably with a drink in hand and your sharpest spy outfit on standby. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1638355

Superstar composers John Murphy and David Fleming finally enter the same room (you read that correctly) after an unusual but groundbreaking experience co-composing the score for James Gunn's SUPERMAN. How John's electric guitar-focused approach (he writes themes on a zany guitar he named Ned Flanders) harnessed the majesty of John Williams' iconic theme — and why the trailer debut was nerve racking to see if the world would accept his “version” of it. Also, how his precious guitar themes (28 Days Later, Sunshine) helped prep for how to treat this film with the sound needed. David and John discuss their breakthroughs in film composing — an internship leading to working with Hans Zimmer on The Lion King. Blue Planet II and Top Gun: Maverick — and a book titled “How To Write A Film Score” which was promptly discarded for a few pints. The duo also discuss their unique place in the massive re-launch of the DC Universe's first film — tonally a new direction that called for embracing the campiness a little more, but also the authenticity. How John's music was critical to filming, and later how David navigated a final push to expand the film's musical scope thematically. Also, Squirrelgate. This week we are trying to stop an apocalypse, develop a world-saving vaccine, locate our long-lost son, and find a good parking spot while we discuss “My Struggle II”! We're talking Scully's strange anti-vaxx turn, the tonally bizarre Guy Ritchie fight scenes, Scully being able to stop a riot with just her words, CSM's return as a cartoon flaming skull, and the fastest-onset apocalypse we have ever seen. We wonder just how quick Scully is able to develop a vaccine, if Teen Willy has a permit to drive that UFO, get indignant on behalf of the nurse Scully won't learn the name of, and wish we could welcome back Reyes, but why did it have to be like this? Quote of the episode: Calm down, you're talking to a scientist here. Thanks, Skinner.Send us an email at scullynationpod@gmail.com or follow us on Instagram!
If you're not familiar with the Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire then you're probably not expecting the Guy Ritchie level of dark comedy that actually happened. Or the sheer volume of craziness involved. Whatever level of crazy you're thinking, double it and add 30, like you're doing a fahrenheit conversion.
Based on a 60s television show of the same name, The Man from UNCLE attempts to merge the cool of James Bond with real-world Cold War era politics. The results are mixed. Directed by Guy Ritchie, it has all the hallmarks of one of his films—quippy banter, smooth action beats, and heroes that ooze charisma. Well, one of the heroes is charismatic. And it's not the one who allegedly is into cannibalism. Henry Cavill is the engine that drives The Man from UNCLE. And just like his turn in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, he proves he's got the chops to be both comedic and badass. Sadly, audiences never gave this one a chance. On a budget of $75 million, it grossed just north of $110 million. That wasn't nearly enough to warrant the sequel they teased. Now, sit back, stay incognito with a Lord Grey from Three Taverns, and never trust a Nazi scientist! The Thunderous Wizard, Chumpzilla, and Bling Blake are enjoying some fine cheese and red wine while Mayor McCheese evades the goons!
This episode, we finally return to taping into a full director's filmography (mostly). Guy Ritchie has been crazy busy lately, movies and shows coming out all the time. While some see his career as being very up and down, we review and speculate why the misteps make sense, and why some of his flops deserve more credit than they get. We discuss his original short film: The Hard Case, in addition to Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, Swept Away, Revolvr, RocknRolla, Sherlock Holmes & Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, Aladdin, The Gentlemen, Wrath of Man, Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, The Covenant, and Dustin's favorite movie of 2024 - Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare (we only both didn't have time for Fountain of Youth and MobLand). It's also amazing how many times his work should have launched massive franchises, but didn't. We still hold out hope for revivals in the future! Before that, Dustin gives spoiler-free first impressions of Superman, Sinners, Jurassic World: Rebirth, Minecraft, Risen, and Monster Summer.
When you start your film making career with two films like Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels (1998) and Snatch (2001), its a pretty good foundation. Guy Ritchie enhanced the crime and heist genre, with his unique British styling. And paving the way for more exciting interpretations of famous stories along the way. Listen to the Janitors explain it all!

In this episode, I sit down with British filmmaker, fight choreographer, and martial artist Michael Hoad, co-director of the new indie action-thriller A WOMAN SCORNED. We talk about how Michael went from training at Carlson Gracie to working on a Guy Ritchie set, and how martial arts opened the door to his directing career. We dig into the making of A WOMAN SCORNED—from the co-directing process to weapon-heavy night shoots and choreographing complex action without stunt doubles. Michael shares why BJJ isn't always camera-friendly, what it was like editing his own fight scenes, and the logistical beast of directing a twin-assassin film with only one actress. We also get into the evolution of British cuisine, punchy stories about Lenny McLean, and the magic of "happy accidents" on set. Toward the end, Michael picks two of his all-time favorite movie scenes: the legendary motorcycle chase in TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY and the haunting finale of Takeshi Kitano's VIOLENT COP. Hosted by Zef Cota
Rob, Michael, and Pax finish up this month's Lounge talking about retirement, the After Lunch lounge schedule, Guy Ritchie's Fountain of Youth, the fall of the Jedi, the Lilo and Stitch remake, and our experiences as young nerds.
No, Apple isn't releasing some new product called iFountain, but Apple TV+ (don't forget that plus!) did release Guy Ritchie's newest film. FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH. It stars Jim from "The Office" and Queen Amidala as siblings whose father was basically Indiana Jones, and don't worry, it's not anywhere near the best or the worst of that series. Listen to the Film School Janitors as they "dig" in (archaeology joke). Enjoy!

HELLO!!! Welcome to our unofficial trilogy of Guy Richie movies... We have on the menu one of his more underappreciated but just as masterful works for your enjoyment today. I mean, anything that has british gangsters and Matthew McConaughey is always a recipe for a good time. Also, it's not too bad that this is the inspiration for Ritchie's Netflix series, which is just as good as it fleshes out the story. So please, sit down and enjoy our discussion on this motion picture and remember that when the lion is hungry... HE EATS!!!! Cheers!!! The Spin Chagrin, a concept that finds Frank having to watch a movie he's never seen before based on the random spin of a wheel filled with off-the-wall genres, continues into its fourth year. All the categories are quotables from Frank himself. In this episode, Frank's category was "Secret Second File in the File." For this, he watched and reviewed Guy Ritchie's 2021 action thriller Wrath of Man, starring Jason Statham, Holt McCallany, Jeffrey Donovan, and Josh Hartnett.

Send us a textMay 2025 marked a historic turning point for theatrical exhibition with box office numbers approaching $1 billion on just 128 releases – half the number required to hit that mark pre-pandemic. This stunning 75% year-over-year growth signals what could be the full recovery of theatrical moviegoing after years of uncertainty.Behind this remarkable surge were five films crossing the $100 million domestic threshold, led by Disney's surprisingly dominant "Lilo and Stitch" ($260M domestic) and Marvel's "Thunderbolts" ($180M). Perhaps most unexpected was "Final Destination: Bloodlines," the sixth entry in a long-dormant franchise that managed to earn over $200M worldwide – proving audiences still hunger for inventive horror when executed properly. The hosts dissect several recent releases, finding much to be desired in "Bring Her Back," the sophomore effort from the directors behind A24's "Talk to Me." Despite strong performances and effective sound design, the film's telegraphed storytelling undermines its potential for genuine suspense. Similarly disappointing is Guy Ritchie's "Fountain of Youth," described as a "dollar store version of Indiana Jones and National Treasure" despite its star-studded cast. Netflix's "Fear Street: Prom Queen" fares better as a fun but lesser entry in the franchise, while HBO's tech billionaire satire "Mountainhead" delivers mixed results.Looking forward, excitement builds for Wes Anderson's "The Phoenician Scheme," the Ana de Armas-led "Ballerina," and Ty West's vampire film premiering at Tribeca. The hosts also share news of Luca Guadagnino directing an AI business comedy and James Cameron tackling a dark fantasy project called "The Devils." These developments, alongside the emergence of AI-themed narratives as a distinct subgenre, reflect how cinema continues to process our collective anxieties and fascinations.Catch Alex and Max each week as they explore theatrical releases, streaming debuts, and industry developments with insight and enthusiasm that reminds us why movies still matter.Support the show

What makes a show so good you'd rather stay on the plane than land in paradise? In this wildly entertaining episode of The Ben and Skin Show, Ben Rogers returns from vacation with a bold claim: he's found a new Top 5 TV show of all time—and it's not what you'd expect. The show? Mobland, a gritty British crime drama starring Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan, and Helen Mirren. But before you roll your eyes at another gangster series, Ben breaks down why this one hits different—fixers, family feuds, and Fontaine's D.C. setting the tone with a killer intro track.
Stew & John Wayne talk Memorial Day vacations and then check out the new "Mission: Impossible - Final Recknoning" and the AppleTV+ Guy Ritchie film, "Fountain of Youth."
This week on Pop Culture Pastor, Dave and Cody set out in search of eternal youth and… mostly find studio notes and safe choices. In our full review of Fountain of Youth, we dive into Guy Ritchie's lightest touch yet, a charming John Krasinski, and a MacGuffin so undercooked it might still be thawing. Is it fun? Sometimes. Is it deep? Not especially. But hey, there's a moped chase and some ancient Christian imagery just vague enough to avoid offending anyone. Also in this episode:Michael Bay is making a Skibidi Toilet movie. That sentence alone may signal the end of western civilization.Thunderbolts bombs at the box office, and we try to figure out if it's Marvel fatigue, character obscurity, or just a tragic lack of marketing.Taylor Swift fans think the AMAs muted her applause. We investigate (and theorize wildly).
FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH MOVIE REVIEW Here's what happens when you take a little bit of the 1999 perfection of The Mummy, a dash of Indiana Jones, a large helping of National Treasure, and the desire to just be better than Uncharted, put it in the hands of Guy Ritchie, but restrain him to his family […]
This week's episode of the Empire Podcast sees Chris Hewitt mark the release of Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning by doing a non-spoiler, non-epic (less than 20 minutes!) chat with that film's director, the legendarily loquacious Christopher McQuarrie, [26:00 - 43:06 approx] and have a lovely natter with the stars of the new Wes Anderson film, The Phoenician Scheme, Benicio del Toro and Michael Cera. [1:01:37 - 1:15:35 approx] Right at the end of the show, we also bring you an extended excerpt from our Andor s2 spoiler chat with that show's creator, Tony Gilroy, who tells Ben Travis all about the fates of certain characters. Do not listen if you haven't seen Andor! [1:43:43 - 1:56:02 approx] Elsewhere, Chris Hewitt is joined in the podbooth by Helen O'Hara, James Dyer, and John Nugent, to talk about Cannes and Cruise, run their collective eye over the week's movie news, and review The Final Reckoning, The Phoenician Scheme, Lilo & Stitch, and Guy Ritchie's Fountain Of Youth. In this heartfelt and hilarious Memorial Day edition of SITREP, CannCon and Alpha Warrior honor fallen brothers-in-arms with powerful personal stories from their military service. From steak-prep debates and reverse-sear techniques to deeply moving tributes for Officer Jermaine Gibson and Lance Corporal Raymond Johnson, the episode blends lighthearted banter with raw emotional remembrance. The duo also dives into the evolving cartel landscape, including the stunning surrender of El Chapo's brother and a wave of Mexican political assassinations tied to organized crime. With Texas ramping up troops at the border and hints of suspended constitutional protections, the hosts speculate on larger operations underway in South America. Add in a few roast-heavy recruitment skits, jabs at Navy culture, a running joke about CannCon forgetting his stepdad's birthday, and a touching review of Guy Ritchie's The Covenant, and you've got a SITREP episode that's as real as it is rowdy. Packed with laughs, love, and layered analysis, this one reminds you why we fight, and why we laugh while doing it.
In 2000, a group of career criminals known for their audacious heists gets recruited for what would be the biggest robbery in history. Lee Wenham and his crew draw up a plan to steal the world's largest diamond on display for the public at London's Millennium Dome. As the thieves work out how to thwart guards, vaults, and impregnable glass, an elite police unit has been monitoring their plans. Produced by movie director Guy Ritchie, the three-part series is high on action film pace and style.
