He shares his unique upbringing, which actually led him to be a lacto-vegetarian from birth until he became vegan in 2014.Growing up in a Hare Krishna organic farm community, Nimai was exposed to spirituality and the compassionate principle of Ahimsa, which is the root of his viewpoint on eating ethically with a plant based diet.Now onto the questions from my nutritionist brain…where do you get all your protein, dude? *Surprise! It's not actually that hard.*Nimai explains how he calculates his macros and how easy it is to pack in beautiful natural protein through tempeh, tofu, lentils, bean pastas and other natural sources.And yes! Nimai Delgado is an American body builder raised in South Mississippi and was raised vegetarian by his Hindu parents. “Both of my amazing parents are converted Hindus, and I was raised with a strong sense of compassion. Growing up, my diet has always been about 95% vegan, with the exception of dairy products.” In 2015 he dropped all animal products from his diet. This transformed his life & outlook. Nimai and I spoke about his life as a full-time bodybuilder and health advocate, growing up in a Hari Krishna family. We also touched on topics such as effective advocacy, dealing with friends and family and the constant shock people experience when they find out he has never eaten meat. ‘Where do vegans get their protein from?' is probably a question you'll hear often as a vegan. Fortunately, insufficient protein in plant-food diets is a myth devised entirely by a misinformed non-vegan society, and even more fortunately we have two vegan fitness-buffs on today's episode, both distinctly NOT lacking in protein, to show us that it's possible to build strength and muscle with plant foods alone.
