Today's episode is a new interview with Michael Judd, recorded by Mary Marshall and Andrew Tuttle, of Edge Perma. During this conversation, Michael shares a quick sketch of his background for listeners who aren't familiar with him and his work, including time at the Bullock's Permaculture Homestead Brother's Farm on Orcas Island in Washington State. Michael then leads us through how he came to his permaculture career and how suggestions on how he makes it work for him and his family, from his early days as an edible landscaper and designer to his current role as a nurseryman, educator, and an event planner focusing on regenerative systems and education. Throughout, he shares stories and personal anecdotes as only he can. Ten years ago, in 2014, I traveled from my home in Pennsylvania and journeyed down to Michael's family home and homestead to record my first in-person interview, ever, with him, meeting his wife, and his son Wyatt, who was still a babe in arms at the time. Since then, we've recorded multiple interviews together, he was a keynote speaker at the Mid-Atlantic Permaculture Convergence, and I've attended his Paw Paw festival. Throughout this decade knowing Michael, personally and professionally, what I've always loved is his ability to take what he knows, examine where his life is at the moment, decides where he wants to go, and pivots in that direction. However he changes his life he does that with intent, while remaining rooted in his mindset as a permaculture practitioner and the lessons he learned during his time in Nicaragua with Project Bona Fide. If you're working on the next steps of your journey, I highly recommend listening to Michael's earlier conversations with me and hear more about his journey. You'll find numerous useful insights that connect to the ones he shared today, that you can apply to your journey, wherever you want to go. When I was young, I watched a segment on a news show that talked about a paranormal investigator who was helping the authorities with a case. I was intrigued. I learned that the word paranormal was established in the early 1900's, and the definition in the Merriam-Webster dictionary states that, and I paraphrase, paranormal means above normal. A Paranormal Investigator is a person, a psychic medium, who can find clues that might elude an average human, which supports the authorities with their investigations. Again, I became curious about these people who can communicate with the other side and their special abilities in this process. In the latest episode of Guided Spirit Conversations with Dr. Marla Goldberrg, prepare to embark on a journey through the enigmatic world of the paranormal. Join me and esteemed guest Medium Mary Marshall, renowned as “The Paranormal MD”, as she unveils the mysteries that lie beyond our understanding. In this thought-provoking conversation, delve into the profound role psychic abilities play in the realm of paranormal investigations. Mary provides unique insights into the compelling evidence she has gathered over her extensive career and sheds light on the intricate connection between diverse paranormal phenomena, from UFO sightings to cryptid encounters. Alex Murdaugh's Defense Attorneys Say Another Man Failed Lie Detector Test About Murders Of Paul And Maggie Murdaugh Alex Murdaugh's lawyers said another man failed a lie detector test over Paul and Maggie's deaths. New court documents identify another suspect in Alex Murdaugh's wife and son's murders. Attorneys Dick Harpootlian and Jim Griffin alleged in a motion to compel filed on Friday that Curtis "Fast Eddie" Smith failed a lie detector test when asked about Alex's wife Maggie, 52, and son Paul, 22, who were found shot to death on the family's Colleton County hunting compound on June 7, 2021. Smith was polygraphed in May, according to a court motion that requests prosecutors to turn over evidence. Murdaugh's attorneys claim Smith's answers "suggested attempted dishonesty" when questioned if he killed Maggie or Paul or was present during the shootings. The defense counsel have requested all data and records relating to the exam from the prosecution. They claim investigators turned a "blind eye" to evidence suggesting Smith was involved in the murders, focusing instead on Murdaugh. He pleaded innocent. "The state is clearly turning a blind eye to the obvious, that Smith failed the polygraph when asked if he murdered Maggie and Paul" Smith told South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) detectives before the polygraph he had an alibi for the night of the shootings. According to court records obtained by FITS News, he said, "I wasn't near where Maggie and Paul were killed." Smith told investigators he was "35 miles away" with Donna Eason and Steve Hudson and Kevin Salisbury. Smith told the court, "I wasn't there" "Nobody can place me there, I wasn't there." Murdaugh's attorneys claim investigators never interviewed Eason to corroborate Smith's alibi and only contacted his two friends two weeks after the interview, giving Smith time to obtain their assistance. Harpootlian and Griffin argue in the motion that Smith called Hudson on May 17 and Salisbury on May 20 before investigators contacted either guy. They also claimed that Smith "often brought cocaine to (the hunting camp) near the dog kennels where Maggie and Paul were slain" and that Maggie and Paul may have stumbled into a drug trade on their property the night they were killed. Smith suggested another motive to investigators. He told a "detailed tale" about Maggie's affair with an unknown groundskeeper. Maggie had a thing with the groundskeeper, whom I never met. Paul went down into one of the barns and captured him, then he got agitated, got his gun, and screamed and screaming at his mother, who was running away. He shot her in the ass and the bullet came out the top of her head, according to court documents. The groundskeeper got a shotgun from his truck. Smith says the groundskeeper killed Paul and fled. Harpootlian and Griffin said prosecutors prosecuted Murdaugh based on a "poor circumstantial case" and failed to explore alternative suspects. When asked if he killed Maggie and Paul, Smith failed a polygraph, they wrote. "The Attorney General has stated that Smith will be a cooperating witness against Alex in the impending murder trial." They also mentioned rumors regarding tangible evidence, including blood on Murdaugh's clothes. When he "frantically attended his wife's bloodied corpse," a "miniscule amount" of Maggie's blood got on his T-shirt, they said. "The state's crime scene forensic evidence is insufficient to prove Alex shot Maggie, and it proves Alex didn't shoot Paul," Harpootlian and Griffin wrote. They also claimed SLED didn't analyze Maggie and Paul's clothing to identify who killed whom. Smith's lawyer Aimee Zmroczek rebutted the bombshell filing to WCSC. Eddie is Alex Murdaugh's pawn. If SLED had any evidence, he would have been charged. She argued polygraphs aren't accepted since they're not accurate. Harpootlian and Griffin also claimed prosecutors had not handed over all the evidence in the case. They asked authorities to turn over any agreement signed between the prosecution and Smith, as well as materials found during a search of Smith's home and cell phone. Robert Kittle, attorney general's office communications director, told Oxygen.com that prosecutors will respond Monday. "We've given the defense more than 750GB of data." No Brady material would be withheld, and the case will be tried in court, he added. Smith and Murdaugh were indicted in June on money laundering and drug charges. Smith, who is in protective custody, is accused of aiding Murdaugh commit suicide last year. Murdaugh is also accused of stealing money from his clients and legal practice as a lawyer. On $7 million bond. 2 A man in Iowa has pleaded guilty to killing his wife after taking out loans without her permission. In 2019, a guy in his 70s admitted to stabbing his 65-year-old wife to death after she discovered his financial deception. According to the Iowa City Press-Citizen, on April 5, 2019, at around 7 a.m., Roy Browning called police to report that his wife, JoEllen Browning, was unresponsive at the couple's house. She had apparently been stabbed in the hand, as well as in the front and back of her torso. The victim was murdered, as reported by the Iowa City Press-Citizen. Fingernail fragments reportedly contained DNA matching that of suspect Roy Browning. KCCI-TV says that JoEllen Browning and her husband had an appointment with a bank on the day she was fatally stabbed. JoEllen allegedly emailed her husband in April, asking him to contact their bank about some unusual activity in their account. The Iowa City Press-Citizen reported that the banker the Brownings were scheduled to meet with intended to inform them that Roy had taken out high-interest loans in their joint name without JoEllen's knowledge and that money had been withdrawn from their joint account without her permission. It has been stated that JoEllen has a $2 million retirement and life insurance policy. The Iowa City Press-Citizen reported that Roy pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree murder on Wednesday, October 12. He had previously pleaded not guilty in November 2019. According to reports, Roy may get up to 50 years in prison. According to court documents, he is still being held in the Johnson County Jail on $5 million bail despite having a sentencing date set for December 2. According to the Iowa City Press-Citizen, JoEllen had been working as a health system administrator for the University of Iowa when she passed away. 3 Raleigh, North Carolina has seen a mass shooting with 5 fatalities; a 15-year-old suspect is currently in custody. A male juvenile, age 15, is in jail after he allegedly opened fire Thursday night, killing multiple individuals and a police officer. Around 5:55 p.m. on Thursday, October 13, Raleigh Police Department issued a statement regarding an ongoing shooting investigation in the Neuse River Greenway area. Five individuals were killed and two others were injured, Raleigh Mayor Mary-Ann Baldwin stated at a press conference on Thursday night. An off-duty officer from the Raleigh Police Department was among the dead, and a K-9 officer was apparently hurt. As of 8 p.m., Raleigh Police reported that they had the subject under control, and he was subsequently arrested. Additional information on the shooting was released by Raleigh Police Chief Estella Patterson on Friday, October 14. According to her, the suspect is a white male juvenile in severe condition who she named as the perpetrator. During a press conference on Friday, Patterson stated, "My heart is heavy because we don't have answers as to why this tragedy occurred." A "senseless gun crime," in her words, the shooting was also. Nicole Connors, 52, Susan Karnatz, 49, Mary Marshall, 35, Raleigh Police Officer Gabriel Torres, 29, and a male juvenile, 16 years old, have all been confirmed dead. Marcille Gardner, 59, is in serious condition after suffering injuries. Even though Torres was not on duty at the time, he was "on his way to work" when the incident occurred. WTVD-TV reported that the injured cop was named Casey Joseph Clark. As Patterson explained, he was treated and then discharged from the hospital. Patterson claims the crime scene was nearly two miles long and "expansive." According to Patterson, the suspect and the police had a "long standoff" before he was captured. It was initially unclear whether or not the suspect had injured themselves. A further look into the matter is still being conducted.

By Davy Crockett You can read, listen, or watch The year 1876 was a particularly important year in ultrarunning/pedestrian history and thus several episodes have covered the events held that year. It was the year when the six-day races started to spread across America for the first time. Lost in ultrarunning history, is the story of the first major six-day race held in America with twelve competitors. It was called “The Grand Walking Tournament for the Championship of the World,” held in May 1876, in the massive Exposition Building in Chicago, Illinois. For the first time, the story of this historic race will be retold. In addition, that year, Daniel O'Leary, took the six-day race to California. Visit https://ultrarunninghistory.com/member Daniel O'Leary's influence upon American Pedestrianism In America, in 1876, Daniel O'Leary, the true pedestrian champion of America, was the driving force to spark interest in the sport. He competed, trained and encouraged other athletes, and invested his own time and money to make events successful. Early in 1876, he especially supported Chicago's female pedestrians (see episodes 101 and 102). But with his success, outspoken critics emerged. Oleary had been criticized by some for his handling of the first women's six-day race between Bertha Von Hillern and Mary Marshall that ended in controversy. (see episode 101) “Mr. O'Leary may be a splendid walker, and he may have lined his pockets by this last appearance in public, but as a manager he has proved a lamentable failure and has not added to his reputation as a gentleman.” Challengers to O'Leary's Title O'Leary received continual six-day challenges from others. Now that he was the champion over Weston, he was careful not to waste time with pretenders. When Caleb W. Sidnam (1829-1902), age 57, a travel agent from Chicago, publicly challenged him, O'Leary's response included, “Of course, I am most desirous of preserving my championship medal, as also the reputation already acquired.” But he countered with strict conditions for the contenders to put up or shut up. Put up guaranteed money to show that they were serious. He said, “During the past few months I have been much annoyed by persons requesting me to give them a start of several miles. I will give no odds whatever, being convinced of the necessity of having such persons make a record on strength of their own merits.” Henry Schmehl (1851-1932), a German-American, and O'Leary's friend, was one who hoped to be a challenger. He made it clear that he wanted no handicaps or favors, “that I had better establish a record for myself before I presumed to challenge him.” Thus, he first participated in the six-day race against Ellen Wickers and reached an impressive 502 miles, second only to O'Leary (see episode 102). When Weston was only able to reach 450 miles in six days in England (see episode 99), Chicago called him a “fraud” and wondered why no international attention was being paid to O'Leary or Schmehl who both exceeded Weston's best. “Verily, if the Englishmen are astonished at Weston, will they not be amazed at O'Leary if he brings his match to England?” O'Leary heads to California Daniel O'Leary O'Leary took the Overland Railroad across the country in March 1876 to San Francisco, California. He then published a challenge to any man on the Pacific Coast, to race against him from 100-500 miles for as much as $10,000. If a challenger didn't come forward, he would do a solo six-day walk for 500 miles and try to beat the world best time of 142:54:00, which was a little more than an hour less than six days. How would California react to this new sport and O'Leary's brash challenges? One newspaper wrote, “If O'Leary would devote his leg-ability to some useful employment, say,

By Davy Crockett You can read, listen, or watch Women's Six-Day Race In 1876, Chicago, Illinois was the six-day race capital of the world. A six-day race frenzy broke out in many other cities, after the incredible Mary Marshall vs. Bertha Von Hillern race was held in February 1876. (see episode 101). They showed America that not only could men pile up miles in six days, but women could too, even mothers. Both men and women sought to race for fame and fortune, even some who weren't properly trained. There were so many people who wanted a piece of this action that the Chicago Tribune wrote that it would no longer publish challenges unless there was proof that money had been forfeited (secured) for a six-day wager. This new policy was put in place “in view of the extraordinary lunacy which has lately been prevalent among the boys and women of Chicago on the question of walking matches and challenges.” The 1876 six-day craze took place especially among women. This episode will continue to tell the story of the earliest women six-day races. At least twelve six-day races involving women were held in 1876. Pedestrian historians have missed most of this history. The forgotten story has been discovered and can now be told. Please consider supporting ultrarunning history by signing up to contribute a little each month through Patreon. Visit https://www.patreon.com/ultrarunninghistory Millie Rose vs. Anna Mattice in Cincinnati Millie Rose, age 27, the infamous cowhide-wielding fiery pedestrian originally from England, had tasted some of the exciting six-day race between Mary Marshall and Bertha Von Hillern in early February 1876. (See episode 101). She immediately wanted a race of her own and found it in Cincinnati, Ohio. There, she competed against Anna Mattice, a Canadian living in Cincinnati, who was an "older runner." The race began on February 14, 1876, at the Cincinnati Exposition Hall, on a track measured to be 15 laps to the mile. Rose, who had not yet won a race, claimed to be “the champion female pedestrian of America.” For a surprise side-show during this Cincinnati race, Rose's seven-year-old daughter Louise “Lulu” Rose walked an impressive 10 miles in 2:25:50. In the end, Millie Rose won in a shortened five-day match with 207 miles to Mattice's 187 miles. Mattice only managed 19 miles on the last day. Millie Rose vs. Clara Hubbard in Toledo With that success, Rose wanted more. Just one week later, on February 26, 1876, another woman's six-day race was held. At Toledo, Ohio, in Toledo Hall, Rose took on young Clara A. Hubbard (1859-1909), age 18, of Chicago, Illinois. The race started on a Saturday at 10 a.m., probably to attract spectators, instead of the typical early Monday start right after midnight. This race was scheduled for six and a half days. The event attracted great curiosity in Toledo. On day two, more than 1,000 spectators watched as Rose reached 88 miles and Hubbard 77 miles. On day three (after 2.5 days), both were doing well, and the score was Rose 132 and Hubbard 121. Running was obviously permitted or ignored because the women were able to clock amazingly fast miles. Hubbard's fastest mile was run in 8:22. On day five, Rose's seven-year-old daughter Lulu, raced against a nine-year-old boy for an hour. She reached five miles in 57 minutes. The little girl, with her mother's fire, immediately challenged the boy to continue the race to 20 miles, but the boy wisely declined. Crowd-control was always a problem during these popular events. During the evening, a local bartender forced his way onto the track and refused to leave. “The affair caused a little excitement, but the fellow was ejected in a few minutes and the performance went on. The management took precautions against any such annoying episodes in the future.” Rose was ahead with 204 miles to Hubbard's 186. On day six, Rose had a 24-mile lead, but Hubbard was narrowing the deficit fast,
By Davy Crockett You can read, listen, or watch In early 1876 while Edward Payson Weston was taking on England in storm, embarrassing the British long-distance walkers and runners in the first six-day race in that country (see episode 99), the six-day race continued to be of growing interest in America, this time among women! Some in the press called these female wonders, “Pedestriennes.” Was America truly ready to accept that idea that women could walk or run for days, for hundreds of miles? Obviously, there were strong cultural beliefs during the era that it was improper for women to participate in distance walking and running. An editorial in the New York Times stated, “Today it is the walking match, soon the [women's vote] will come.” It isn't surprising that once the women started to compete that New York City considered passing an ordinance banning “all public exhibitions of female pedestrianism.” Please consider supporting ultrarunning history by signing up to contribute a little each month through Patreon. Visit https://www.patreon.com/ultrarunninghistory Early Women Pedestrians Emma Sharp - Barclay walker from 1864 In 1876, female pedestrians were not entirely new. As early as 1844 in England, women started to attempt the Barclay Match, walking 1,000 miles in consecutive 1,000 hours, one mile each hour (see episode 18). Several British women were successful over the next thirty years. Often men wagering against their success would attempt to assault them to make them fail. In America, in 1868, Anne Fitzgibbons, “Madame Moore,” a clog dancer from England, exported women pedestrianism to America. She began putting on 50-mile walking exhibitions in upstate New York, wearing “male attire” during her walks, for which she was arrested. She went on to be the first known woman to walk 100 miles in less than 24 hours. There was speculation whether American women could be ultra-distance pedestrians. “American girls are generally poor walkers, and it will soon be a difficulty to find an American lady who can walk more than twenty minutes without complaining of fatigue. They pay too much attention to the shape and make of their boots for pedestrian performances.” A few isolated ultra-distances walks were performed by women during the early 1870s. In 1871, Lydia Nye walked 30 miles in eight hours over a rough, mountainous road near Bennington, Vermont. She received national attention in the newspapers. In 1874 a woman created quite a stir who had walked all the way from Kansas City, to Sacramento, California “in search of a truant husband.” She wouldn't take rides offered or ride the railroad because of a fear of trains. “That husband will be the biggest fool of the two if he ever lets her catch him.” Other women soon started to make walks of huge distances, getting their names in the news. In 1875, M'lle Lola, a gymnast, and trapeze performer, walked 30 miles against a man in P.T. Barnum's New York City Hippodrome (see episode 97) gaining intense fame. Time for a Women-only Six Day Race Chicago, Illinois seemed to be the right place for women pedestrians to race for six days for the first time and gain initial acceptance. Daniel O'Leary had energized the city with his historic six-day victory over Edward Payson Weston late in 1875 (see episode 98). Two daring women took the stage to be the first women in history to compete in a six-day race: Bertha Von Hillern and Mary Marshall. Bertha Von Hillern Bertha Von Hillern (1853-1939) was born in Stadtkreis Trier, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany on August 4, 1853. Her mother encouraged and trained her in activities of strength and endurance. She joined in with boys in walking contests and she would outlast them all. They would “gaze with mortified astonishment at the little figure, erect, quiet, moving silently and steadily on toward the goal.” It was reported, "She began to study the science of pedestrianism when but twelve ...

Despite our best intentions, our best plans can, and often do, fall short. We've been taught since we were young to have goals and pursue them, sometimes doggedly and without question. This idea has followed many of us into our adulthoods, where we dutifully create goals, but without introspection or a plan, follow them without vision or flexibility. Author, coach and instructor, Mary Marshall, is a strong proponent of upgrading the concept of mere goals to that of Smart Goals – the idea that goals should be realistically achievable, incremental, and in the case of 2020, adaptable. As in life, and as they are part of life, goals need to adjust to our changing realities and life circumstances. Marshall's most recent books include How Not to Be a Leader, How Not to Build a Great Team, and How Not to Create a Winning Strategy. Her previous books include The Entrepreneur Puzzle and The Great Cultural Disconnect. What You Will Learn Tailor your goals to what you can actually accomplish. Learn which part of your goals are worth keeping and which parts are changeable. Get into the mindset that it's OKAY to change your goals, and hear some real examples of how to make that determination.

What does a behavioral change expert have to say about getting onto the leading edge of the sales industry? What does it mean to place “extreme focus on pulling the future of sales into the present?” BIO:Mary Marshall Forrest lives on the leading edge of the sales industry. As a behavioral change expert and award-winning executive. Mary believes the only way to break your sales plateau is to completely change the way you look at sales. And that means an extreme focus on pulling the future of sales into the present. Mary’s mission is to give every sales professional, manager, and executive the tactical, real-world knowledge so they can remove any limiting beliefs keeping them from breaking their plateaus. In the course of that decades-long mission, Mary has trained billion-dollar companies and everyone from high-powered CEOs to frontline salespeople to increase their effectiveness by driving more profit. Mary established her speaking and training careers as a top 1% sales professional, but quickly realized something the rest of the training industry had yet to understand: the sales techniques widely taught at conferences and seminars were installing mental limitations in others, not removing them. Leashes are limiting beliefs every person experiences. That voice inside your head whispering you can't do something? That's your past programming negatively influencing your results. It's also a false narrative. You were born with every internal tool you need to succeed. It just needs to be continually called out and strengthened. Mary Marshall is the new President of Forrest Performance Group, the nation’s most cutting edge sales and management training company. She is going to share her journey including how she was an instrumental leader in growing FPG into an Inc. 5000 Fastest Growing Company. She has also been instrumental in creating FPG’s Stevie Award-winning sales, customer service, and leadership programs. Her background includes online learning facilitation, sales, professional speaking, and moderating. She helps change behavior by teaching FPG’s award winning programs. Today, we talk about fulling tapping into human performance to increase sales, performance, and profits. Mary shares a lesson she learned in a call center job that she hated until she learned to change her mindset. These techniques on changing her perspective still hold true today. Show Notes [03:35] Mary's first job was at the college call center asking for money. She learned so much. She cried in her first ten minutes. [05:37] This job made her miserable. She decided to talk to the top salesperson and find out why he was so happy. [05:39] Every day was wonderful for him talking to people on the phone, hearing their stories, taking something off their to-do list, and making them smile. [06:14] This changed her whole trajectory. The next semester everything was wonderful for her. She went to work excited every day. [06:38] She took this mindset into every sales job that she had after that. [06:52] At FPG she began helping the content team and now she is president of the company. It has been an incredible journey for her. [07:53] The power of reframing the mindset is amazing. [10:06] If you don't believe you can't create an environment for yourself or others to believe. [11:30] Beliefs are what hold us back from selling. It's our mindset and not deciding to yield or give up. [13:01] Persuasion is pushing forward when you know the product is right for that person or company, by doing your homework up front as opposed to manipulation. [14:49] Internalizing beliefs like people don't want to be sold to makes a salesperson think that there is something intrinsically wrong with what they are doing. [15:38] People love to be sold to. They don't want to be sold to buy anybody who's unethical. [16:29] To be successful sales release mindset issues that prevent you from doing things like selling on the phone. [17:39] Mary shares the difference between working with individuals as opposed to teams when doing sales coaching. [18:16] Skill training is great in a group framework. Some will act and some won't. This is where individual training comes into play. [19:19] Find the leash that is preventing the salesperson from following through. [19:58] One-on-one coaching can help change the limiting belief. [24:37] Before Mary starts her day she thinks about the type of energy she needs according to the task or people that she is going to be dealing with. She wants to always be in the right frame of mind. [25:54] She also writes things down and practices preparing herself for her next task or sales call. [26:22] Be present with who you are with. By preparing you can be grounded. Role play or have other people listen to what you are doing. [27:30] The most important thing is to have a process. [27:47] Mary uses the seven steps of starting strong with each person she sales too. [29:12] The first step is to ask a triple binding question. Get people to make decisions as fast as possible. [31:27] Sales and leadership isn't personal life or professional life, it is just life. [32:07] Success for Mary is responding in the most loving and effective way. [32:57] Her biggest goal is creating leaders for her company. She wants to create a space and environment that allows people to become leaders. [35:19] Mary listens to as many books as possible on Audible. She also does a lot of learning on Growth Cafe. She is also on Wunderlist. [38:04] Mary likes using social media to stay involved and excited with old neighbors that she used to have. [38:41] People can't be successful today without connecting on social media. [39:48] When you finally meet someone in person who you've known on social media for a number of years it's like meeting an old friend. [40:17] Out of college, Mary went up to the president of a company that she wanted to work for who she saw at a party, and his reply was we don't hire little girls as sales people. [41:29] This fueled her to prove him wrong. She also started noticing people who actually believed in her, and she realized she had to let go of the situation with this man. [42:26] Listen to people who actually believe in you. This is the fuel source that gives you the energy at the end of the day to do your job and go home and be a great mom. [43:30] Find the person who is the most successful in whatever you want to do and do what this person is doing. Mary Marshall studied journalism in college and then jumped right into a career in television news, working on NBC’s Dateline and Nightly News with Lester Holt. But she became disillusioned and wanted to do something more meaningful. So she took a walk to clear her head. Actually she hiked 500 miles of the Appalachian trail by herself. When she got off the trail she signed up for AmeriCorps and discovered Solar Energy International (SEI). Mary’s AmeriCorps VISTA project at SEI involved community outreach efforts in Delta County, Colorado where SEI is located. The goal was to bring jobs and clean energy to small towns in the county that were suffering from recent coal mine closures. After her AmeriCorps project she stayed on at SEI and is currently developing Solar Forward, a program with the goal of growing solar in rural communities across Colorado. I had the chance to talk with Mary in person at the American Solar Energy Society’s Solar 2018 Conference in Boulder.

They are out in the field at least 4x a month.ABOUT JAY BACHOCHINJay has been interested in the paranormal since he was old enough to hold an interest. Jay was raised on Creature Features back in the early 70's. He just loved "anything" that was supernatural. It wasn't until 1979 when he witnessed something paranormalfirst hand and saw the most amazing display of a well lit flying object above their house in Lindenhurst, IL. What did his brother, sister and my mom see that night? They couldall say it was a UFO, but until this day they still can't explain what we saw. However, itwas fascinating to watch these lights move in the night sky over a total of :20 minutes.Throughout Jay’s life he has experienced many different types of paranormal activity. Not all ghostly experiences but 'odd' to say the least. He’s experienced a 5 second black-out when he was 8 years old. The black-out didn't only happen to Jay at thattime, but also the friend he was with at the time. This 5 second black-out was the most bizzare thing he can recall from childhood. How can 2 people share the same blackout?Jay has witnessed many different unidentified flying objects near his hometown and his current residence over the years.During some of his investigating, he has experienced what some people would call a ghost. Not sure if it was a deceased person's spirit running through his body, or if there is something natural that we don't comprehend. Whatever it was charged him with staticelectricity, and made every hair on his body stand as tall as the Redwood National Forest yet was as cold as ice.Jay believes that we are not alone in our universe. Todays guest is a lady who has been showing the businesses of the world how to get unstuck and prosper in a turbulent world. Since being nominated by the U.S. Small Business Administration this year for outstanding achievement, she was in the perfect position to deliver to the world the book Putting Together the Entrepreneurial Puzzle: The Ten Pieces Every Business Needs to Succeed As she says “I like putting things together, figuring things out, for me it's the puzzle aspect that I enjoy most about business,” But her own life has been a bit of a puzzle too, and isn't that what makes a life? Originally she entered business as the manager of a family owned scuba diving shop in Oregon. She was 23, and had no business training in any shape or form. You might say she was wet to business.
