The Blessed Beauty Podcast - Simple Beauty Advice for Busy Catholic Women
So it's been a couple of weeks and the craziness has died down, so let's discuss this huge celebrity wedding that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce hosted in NYC over the 2026 July 4th weekend. A lot of money, a lot of media, and a whole lotta hoopla. But was it all necessary in the first place, especially given how much media saturation Taylor already experiences on a daily basis? Let's explore the reasoning why Taylor would think that this media circus would be a good idea in the first place - ALL MY OPINION of course. Also, I share with you (something I NEVER knew) that Taylor does to keep herself the top of the charts. This shocked me, but what shocked me more was the huge rock I was living under where this was concerned. How could I not know this? We also have to discuss the way that Madonna fans CAME FOR ME in the comment section of the last video I did about her and J Lo. Apparently they were very upset that I dared to suggest that an almost 70 year old woman might want to start covering it up and having a sense of decency. They were not happy, to say the least... The Chicks are covering another packed day of news, politics, and internet insanity. They remember legendary actor Tim Curry, discuss the deadly glacial flood in Nepal, and break down Meta's massive $17.1 billion child social-media settlement. Then it's into politics: a ruling in LaMonica McGyver's ICE assault case, New York's latest anti-ICE law, speculation over who could replace Karoline Leavitt, and Peter Doocy's preview of the RNC convention in Dallas. Plus, CBC is facing backlash over guidance surrounding the use of "terrorist attack" when discussing 9/11.The show also dives into Abdul El-Sayed's reparations comments, Mehdi Hasan's clash with Will Chamberlain, Debbie Dingell's latest praise for Hasan Piker, an incredibly cringe "Mean Girls"-inspired Senate campaign video, and Deb Haaland's run for New Mexico governor. Then things get even crazier with a viral TikTok rant involving Palestine and race, an undercover investigation inside London mosques, Trump's comments about Sharia law, and Konstantin Kisin's argument about immigration and assimilation. Finally, the Chicks break down the latest developments in the Lindsay Clancy trial, the insanity defense, new controversy surrounding Patrick Clancy, and the debate over prison versus a mental institution. Plus: the disturbing "I don't want a boy" trend, new questions for the WNBA, backlash against Dolly Parton for not being political enough, and why America might just need a Dolly Parton Day.SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS TO SUPPORT OUR SHOW!If you're ready to stop feeling frustrated and start making a difference, download Concerned Women For America's FREE Biblical Civic Engagement Guide today at https://ConcernedWomen.org/ChicksCheck out Healthy Cell Immune Super Boost to support your immune system in one gel pack! As she's getting out of the carriage one day, she sees a little dingy figure standing on the stairs, watching her. Her name is Becky and she is a servant of the house. Sara tries to befriend her, and Lavinia snottily points out that it's unseemly to hang out with servant girls. Then, Lavinia, in true Mean Girls fashion, sniffs and huffs and says that they should call Sara "Your Royal Highness” when they find out her father is investing in a diamond mine.We already don't like Lavinia, but it gets worse when she fights with Lottie, who is about a decade younger than she is. God, Lavinia, get a grip. I hope you have been enjoying these episodes as much as I enjoy bringing them to you. Reviews and shares make a huge difference. Portsmouth is worse than Fanny could've imagined, and in these chapters, she tries to find a friend among her family. Mary sends a gossipy letter to Fanny, and Fanny kind of likes it. Fanny buys a knife for her little sister AND joins a library! Topics discussed include regency era dentistry, Fanny's llama mama, Mrs. Price's resemblance to her sisters, the social status of the Ward sisters, Spicy Susan, the Saturday half-holiday, the comparison of Portsmouth to celibacy, Mary poking the bear, Baron Wildenhaim's courtship of Julia, what qualities in a person are innate, and luxurious and daring wealth.Patron Study Questions come from Avi, Kate, Ghenet, and Linnea. Topics discussed include how Fanny's sisters could've benefitted if she'd come home earlier, Mrs. Price as a tragic figure, and Fanny's lack of a female friendship, where Fanny truly belongs, whether Portsmouth is an enticement or warning about marrying Henry, and Maria as a warning.Becca's Study Questions: Topics discussed include the picture Jane Austen is painting of the lower classes and how Susan complicates that picture, what role Susan plays in the narrative, whether Fanny really misses Mansfield, why Maria is unhappy, and predictions about our former main characters. Funniest Quote(s):“As to the little irritations, sometimes introduced by Aunt Norris, they were short, they were trifling, they were a drop of water to the ocean, compared with the ceaseless tumult of her present abode.”“I hope she will recollect it and be satisfied, as well she may, with moving the queen on a palace, though the king may appear best in the background.”Questions moving forward: How close will Fanny and Susan get? Will we go to the Rushworths' party? Will Edmund propose?Who wins the chapters? Confession time. I was the kid with the "I am me, I'm ok" poster taped up in my room. I was desperate to feel confident and ok, and yeah, it's embarrassing, but it helped. My mom, who was a lot like Stuart Smalley (if you remember that SNL skit, the guy who looks in the mirror and reminds himself he's good enough, smart enough, and gosh darn it, worthy), encouraged me to hang it up after a devastating seventh grade experience. My own personal Mean Girls encounter. I had just started at a new junior high, and it felt like every rule of friendship and belonging got flipped upside down overnight. Everyone I was friends with landed on the red team. I got placed on purple. I was shocked by how brutal girls I once called my besties could be. And while I found new friends eventually, something else took root first. A belief that I needed to change. That I needed to fix myself. That belief followed me for years. It played out in my first marriage, until I had a shocking awareness and awakening. There was never anything wrong with me. There was only the belief that I wasn't cool enough, smart enough, pretty enough, whatever word fits for you. This week's episode is all about that exact fallacy, the idea that you need to fix yourself. My guest Leonard Jacobson has had nine awakenings, and what he shares about presence and the truth of who you are is something I wish my 13 year old self could've heard.. I hope this one helps you remember there's nothing in you to fix. Ever. Friend, you are good enough, smart enough, and worthy of everything you desire. You always were. Period. Bio Leonard Jacobson is an internationally recognized spiritual teacher, author, and founder of the Conscious Living Foundation. For more than four decades, he has taught a practical path of awakening based on Presence, self-awareness, and conscious living. Since his first awakening in 1981, Leonard has shared his teachings with thousands of people around the world through retreats, workshops, books, and online programs. He is the author of seven books, including Words from Silence, Embracing the Present, Bridging Heaven & Earth, Liberating Jesus, Life Beyond the Ego, and In Seach of the Light, a children's picture book. His books have been translated into numerous languages. Key Topics Leonard Jacobson's awakening journey The nature of God and oneness Practices for awakening and presence The role of the ego in spiritual growth Revealing the truth about Jesus and Christ consciousness The importance of responsibility and self-awareness in awakening About Leonard Jacobson Leonard Jacobson is an internationally recognized spiritual teacher, author, and founder of the Conscious Living Foundation. For over four decades he's taught a practical path to awakening rooted in presence, self-awareness, and conscious living. Let's chat—send me a text! How do students begin to see themselves differently in mathematics? In this episode, we're continuing our Math Therapy summer book study with Chapter 6: Makeover. This chapter may be the most personal one yet. It challenged me to reflect on my own math story and reminded me that students don't simply need better grades—they need opportunities to build a healthier mathematical identity.I also share one of my favorite implementation ideas from the book: helping students create a Math-o-GRAPHy, where they graph the highs and lows of their mathematical journey and later use those graphs as authentic mathematical data.In This Episode✨ What math identity really means✨ Why rewriting our math story helps rewire our brain✨ My personal math journey—from Mathlete to math teacher✨ How teachers shape students' mathematical identities✨ The influence of media on students' beliefs about math✨ Why I interpreted Mean Girls a little differently✨ The Math Story Makeover activity✨ Using Math-o-GRAPHy to connect SEL and authentic mathematics✨ Why identity—not ability—is often what changes mostKey TakeawayStudents don't become different mathematicians because we tell them they're capable. They become different mathematicians because they accumulate evidence that they are capable.Every reflection.Every productive struggle.Every meaningful success.Every encouraging conversation. Those experiences help students rewrite their story—and ultimately rewire how they see themselves. This Week's ReflectionAsk yourself:What's your own math story?Which teachers shaped your mathematical identity? What experiences made you the teacher you are today? If your students rewrote their math autobiography in May, what would you hope had changed?Community ChallengeJoin us inside the Facebook group and share:✨ One moment from your own math story that shaped the teacher you've become.✨ One classroom experience that helps students build a healthier relationship with mathematics.Let's collect ideas that help students rewrite their stories one experience at a time.Read Along With Us

A quiet Ohio suburb is shattered when a 17-year-old girl, Mackenzie Shirilla, drives nearly 100 miles per hour into a brick wall, killing her boyfriend and a close friend while somehow surviving herself. Was it a tragic accident, a medical emergency, or a carefully calculated act of murder? This week, we examine the evidence, the trial, the toxic relationship at the center of it all, and the questions that continue to divide people over the case. You've probably heard “stay positive” so many times that you've started to treat irritation like a personal failure. We're flipping that script. When we try to jump straight into high-frequency emotions without processing what actually hit us, we don't become more evolved, we often become more suppressed. And suppression has a way of leaking out later through tension, passive aggression, spirals of overthinking, or bigger emotional blowups.I'm sharing why your inner mean girl, in a safe and private container, can be a powerful pressure valve for emotional regulation. We get into the nervous system science behind venting, including oxytocin (the bonding hormone) and the “tend and befriend” response, plus how cortisol and stress can drop when you feel heard. I also walk through a real trigger moment and show the exact sequence I use: let the charge discharge first, then look for the reflection, then access compassion from a truthful place instead of spiritual bypassing. We'll also talk boundaries, discernment, and why this isn't permission to be mean to people out loud. The goal is emotional mastery: using private release to create clarity, then choosing your next move with intention. If you want practical tools for staying balanced, improving relationships, and building a calmer nervous system while doing deep inner work, you'll get a lot out of this one.To book your Relationship Analysis, you can do so here. Welcome to The DMF — Discovering Meaning in Film and Acting. I'm Justin Younts, and this is the complete interview with casting director Tiffany Little Canfield of Telsey Company — known for her work on Wicked, Mean Girls, and more. All three parts together.Tiffany grew up in Sacramento, got serious about acting early, moved into directing, and eventually found her way to casting — where her background on both sides of the table changed how she reads actors and approaches every project. This conversation covers all of it.We start with her path into the industry, the casting process, what actors consistently misunderstand about auditions, the impact of self-tapes, and why training never stops mattering. From there we get into the specific casting stories — A Most Violent Year, Miss Sloane, Margin Call, and Wicked. Tiffany gets into how Ariana Grande was cast as Glinda, the casting of The Wizard, Madame Morrible, and Bowen Yang, and what the process looked like on a production of that scale. We also get into casting controversies, diversity in casting, and what Tiffany actually thinks about how those conversations play out in the industry. She talks about the Academy finally establishing a casting branch and what that recognition means for the profession. We close with upcoming projects, Inside the Actors Studio questions, what she's reading and watching, and her thoughts on The Lost Daughter. In this episode we discuss:Tiffany's path from acting to directing to castingThe casting process and what actors get wrongSelf-tapes and the reality of modern auditionsCasting Wicked — Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum & Bowen YangCasting A Most Violent Year, Miss Sloane & Margin CallCasting controversies and diversity in the industryThe Academy finally recognizing casting directorsUpcoming projects including Only Murders in the Building and Paradise00:00:00 - Introduction 00:00:14 - Guest Introduction & Early Life 00:00:38 - Influence of Early Life on Career 00:02:23 - Transition from Acting to Directing 00:03:14 - Professional Training and Realization 00:04:26 - Decision to Shift from Acting 00:06:09 - Transition to Casting 00:06:21 - Casting Experience and Realization 00:09:04 - Getting into the Industry 00:09:29 - Similarities between Casting Directors and Actors 00:13:26 - Role of Directing Degree in Casting 00:13:26 - Understanding Actors 00:15:13 - Misconceptions about Acting 00:15:40 - The Art and Craft of Acting 00:17:26 - The Importance of Continuous Training 00:22:02 - The Shift to Self-Tapes 00:24:32 - Challenges in the Industry 00:26:52 - The Power of Subtle Acting 00:28:36 - Working with the Telsey Office 00:29:52 - Casting 'A Most Violent Year' 00:30:48 - Casting 'A Most Violent Year' Continued 00:36:26 - Casting 'Miss Sloan' 00:39:09 - Casting 'Margin Call' 00:41:30 - Casting 'Wicked' 00:46:19 - Casting 'Wicked' Continued: The Role of Glinda 00:49:54 - Casting 'Wicked' Continued: The Role of the Wizard and Madame Morrible 00:55:26 - Casting 'Wicked' Continued: The Role of Boq 00:57:04 - Recognition of Casting Directors at the Academy Awards 01:01:30 - Future Plans 01:01:42 - Upcoming Projects 01:02:15 - Daily Routines 01:03:09 - Physical Fitness and Meditation 01:03:48 - Current Readings 01:05:11 - Music Preferences 01:05:39 - Current TV Shows 01:06:42 - Recent Movies 01:08:34 - Contact Information 01:08:57 - Conclusion#DMF #TiffanyLittleCanfield #CastingDirector #Wicked #ArianaGrande #TelseyCompany #Oscars #Academy #Acting #Casting #Filmmaking #Podcast

Mackenna Tolfa is the first featured female drummer in Blue Man Group history. She plays ‘The Rockstar' on the current North American Tour — the character she originated on the World Tour in 2021 after performing in more than 20 countries. Before returning to Blue Man, she held the drum chair on the national tours of Mean Girls and The Book of Mormon. She's also the orchestrator and arranger for The Dust Bowl Radio Hour, a new musical with a concept album. In this conversation we get into how all of it happened. How she chose the University of Minnesota specifically to study with Fernando Meza, the original percussionist for The Lion King. How she wrote a letter to the drummer from The Band's Visit as a high school student, had it delivered to the stage door, and how that relationship eventually led to her finding out about the Blue Man audition years later. And the audition itself. She was in a remote desert town in Spain — 400 people, no drum set anywhere nearby — when she got the call. She drove two and a half hours, rented the one kit in a back room, and filmed her audition in 115-degree heat with no air conditioning. She booked the role.We also get into what it means to originate a role versus step into a chair, how the Book of Mormon book is one of the most technically demanding on tour right now, and why following curiosity sideways — marimba physicality, Ableton, a fun cover video — has shaped her career in ways she never planned.Catch this episode wherever you listen to podcasts. What was the Acts 2 church meant to be? And how far have we drifted from it? Continuing the Summer Reset series on the Jesus Over Everything podcast, Lisa Whittle tackles a topic her own audience asked her to address: cliques, popularity dynamics, and comfortable social circles that quietly take root in the very place designed to be their opposite. Drawing on real messages from listeners, teachings from top theologians, and a challenge rooted in Matthew 28, Lisa makes the case that playing church – surrounding ourselves with people who look, act, and think just like us – is more than a social problem. It's a spiritual one. This is a conversation for anyone who's ever felt the gap between what the church is supposed to be and what it sometimes is, and wants to close it. Listen in to learn more: Why Lisa almost didn't make this episode and what changed her mind The listener's message about cliques in women's ministry that started it all What the Acts 2 church was actually designed to be (and what it was never meant to be) How our social patterns have replaced the mission of the church Why cliques have no place in a community called to unity The connection between comfortable Christianity and a lazy faith What is really at risk when we miss the person sitting alone A hard question: Are we living for Jesus or for popularity and comfort? While women have been featured in comedy films since the beginning of the motion picture, around the 1980s, studios seemed to realize: women are funny, and women can be big business. Over the past four decades, some of the sharpest, wittiest, most bonkers films have been centered on – and in some cases created by – women. We want to celebrate these funny ladies, so join the Great Pop Culture Debate as we attempt to name the Best Woman-Led Comedy Film from 1980 to 2025.Movies discussed: Legally Blonde, Miss Congeniality, Clueless, Sister Act, 9 to 5, Mean Girls, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Death Becomes Her, The Devil Wears Prada, Pitch Perfect, Charlie's Angels (2000), Bridesmaids, A League of Their Own, Easy A, First Wives ClubJoin host Eric Rezsnyak and GPCD panelists Amma Marfo, Joelle Boedecker, and Maggie Hartman as they discuss and debate 16 of our favorite women-centered comedy movies. For the warm-up to this episode, in which we discuss additional women-led films that didn't make the bracket, become a Patreon supporter of the podcast today. Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski | True Crime News & Commentary
Christine Russo lost her brother Dominic when Mackenzie Shirilla drove a hundred miles an hour into a brick wall in Strongsville, Ohio. Davion Flanagan, nineteen, died alongside him. In a published interview, Christine said it plainly about Mackenzie's parents: “They created a monster — they're monsters themselves.”Recorded prison calls between Mackenzie and her family show how the Shirilla household operates — before the crash and after. Mackenzie tells her mother Natalie she doesn't need rehabilitation. Natalie agrees, saying it's for “actual criminals.” On another call, Natalie calls the Russo family “evil.” Steve Shirilla appeared in the Netflix documentary The Crash, said on camera he was fine with his daughter using marijuana, lost his teaching position at a Catholic school over the comments, and responded by saying the institution “showed their true colors.” For every member of this family, consequences are never about the behavior. They're always about the people who noticed.Inside the Ohio Reformatory for Women, Mackenzie has racked up thirty-six conduct violations — guilty in thirty-two. Contraband. Direct-order refusals. Altered clothing. Visitation issues. A fellow inmate compared her to Regina George from Mean Girls: daily makeup, social positioning, treating the facility like it was still high school. She begs her mother for an iPad. She complains about boredom. She won't eat the food. Her emotional register hasn't shifted since the day she arrived. This episode takes apart the machine that built Mackenzie Shirilla. The parental enabling that never let a consequence stick. The social media mythology that let a teenager build an identity from nothing. And the distance — shorter than any parent wants to admit — between protecting your child and building someone who can't survive contact with the real world.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video?
