To celebrate 50 years of Pong being released Mike & Neil are going WAY back into the annals of video game history to talk about some legacy collections on the GameCube. Starting with Pinball Hall of Fame which is yup, a collection of pinball tables played virtually. We bring on friend of the show Luigi to discuss Pinball and the Midway Arcade Treasures series and discover how interconnected Pinball, Bally, Williams, Atari, and Midway all were in the 1980s. Next up is the Namco Museum series featuring friend of the show Christian to dive back into his memories of these games. Finally Jedi Geek Girl joins us once again, this time to talk about Gauntlet Dark Legacy, a very unique game on the GameCube that is of course set within the arcade classic Gauntlet series. All this and more on episode 121 of The GameCube Was Cool! And of course you can check out some GameCube Was Cool Podcast merch here at https://www.teepublic.com/stores/neil-gilbert?ref_id=26916
The Computer Games Museum in Berlin knows that its visitors want to play games, so it lets them. The artifacts are fully-playable video games, from early arcade classics like PacMac to modern console and PC games, all with original hardware and controllers. By putting video games in a museum space, the Computer Games Museum invites visitors to become players. But, players can become visitors too. Video games have been inviting players into museum spaces for decades. In the mid 1990s, interaction designer Joe Kalicki remembers playing PacMan in another museum – only this one was inside a video game. In Namco Museum, players navigated a 3D museum space to access the games, elevating them to a high-culture setting. Since then, museums and their cultural shorthands have been a part of the video game landscape, implicitly inviting their players-turned-visitors to think critically about museums in the process. In this episode, Kalicki presents mainstream and indie examples of video games with museums inside them: from Animal Crossing's village museum to Museum of Memories, which provides a virtual place for objects of sentimental value, to Occupy White Walls where players construct a museum, fill it with art – then invite others to come inside. OctoRock (Adam) — Today at 9:46 AM My three favorite non-TMNT bmups are The Simpsons arcade game, Battletoads and River City Ransom. The Simpsons may actually beat out TMNT for me as far as the 4 player arcade experience goes. Just such a hilarious and well crafted game. Battletoads speaks for itself, I'm not sure if it's a full blown bmup because of the platforming and speeder bike levels, but they teamed up with Double Dragon so that's gotta say something. River City Ransom is probably the only oddball here. A great semi-obscure NES game that thankfully a lot of people are now aware of thanks to River City Girls. One of my favorite NES titles and up there with Battletoads for me. the Well-Red Mage — Today at 9:50 AM Shredders Revenge is AH MAH GAHHHHHHHH so good. A beat em up nobody gives enough love to is Fight N Rage. Seriously amazing. ElPeeDee (Liam D) — Today at 10:09 AM mine has to be Batman Returns for SNES. I loved the grabbing & throwing mechanics, breaking parts of the environment and the bat gadgets you could employ. the sprite art was gorgeous and, while I hadn't even seen the movie at that point, I loved the characters twodollarhero — Today at 10:25 AM For me, it's Scott Pilgrim. It's not the most mechanically dense beat-em-up, but I've come to realize that I prefer the River City Ransom approach of simpler gameplay, but a more fleshed out world with characters, shops, etc. Paul Robertson's artwork is gorgeous and the soundtrack by Anamanaguchi is among the greatest in video game history, full stop. CrazyGreekDre — Today at 10:51 AM Turtles in time, Final fight both sNES and TMNT arcade game ChrisHL94

Namco Museum[a] is a series of video game compilations developed and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment for home video game consoles. The first title in the series, Namco Museum Vol. 1, was released for the PlayStation in 1995. Entries in the series have been released for multiple platforms, including the Game Boy Advance, PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, Nintendo DS and Xbox 360. the latest being Namco Museum Archives Vol. 2, released in 2020. The Namco Museum name was originally used for a chain of retail stores in the 1980s, which sold merchandise based on Namco video games and characters.[1] The compilations include video games developed by Namco for both arcade hardware and home game systems, including the Family Computer and Sega Genesis. Some iterations use software emulation for the games, while others instead reprogram them from scratch. The collections typically include interchangeable game settings, online leaderboards or unlockable extras, such as games or promotional material. The original PlayStation series, with the exception of Namco Museum Encore, instead placed the player in a virtual museum that housed the individual games. The Namco Museum series has been met with a mixed to positive critical response, some praising the emulation quality and unlockable extras while others criticizing the overall presentation and lack of updated features to the included titles. The franchise has sold a total of 14.087 million copies worldwide.[n 1] We play the greatest games from yesterday while discussing today's gaming news and reminisce on the past. This week Kevin’s Car battery dies from not turning on for 4 weeks and therefore he can’t buy Final Fantasy 7 remake. The two go over the news of the week which include Super Mario Odyssey 64, Super Mario Maker 2 gets a big-ass but final update, Xbox Series X logo is revealed, and it looks like a Shoe brand and Xbox Players in the U.S. can donate the rewards to charity. Kevin then goes over some sales that he seems worthy in the new “sales” segment. Scott tried Google Stadia Pro and it’s a fart without a controller, flips you off with Freedom Finger for the Switch, played Namco Museum in vertical mode and doesn’t like the control setup, finished watching the show Devs and purchased Monopoly! Kevin meanwhile “completed’ Yoshi’s Crafted World and never wants to see it again, found out OMG Z HD is a different game than OMG Z and glitches out in Rise of the Tomb Raider.Enjoy!Support the show:United States Amazon Affiliate Links: • Our Mic - Kingston Qaudcast - https://amzn.to/34NXhjg • Twitch Prime Trial - https://amzn.to/2P9XyGP • Audible Trial - https://amzn.to/33NknFE • Amazon Family Trial - https://amzn.to/2rObI8G • Amazon Affiliate Link - https://amzn.to/2NpbkogCanadian Amazon Affiliate Links: • Our Mic - Kingston Qaudcast - https://amzn.to/2YbZDpG• Amazon Affiliate Link - http://amzn.to/2rPinhaNEWSSuper Mario Odyssey 64 puts an old coat of paint on a new gameFinal Super Mario Maker 2 UpdateXbox Series X new logo Xbox players in the U.S. can now donate their Microsoft Rewards points SALESNintendoFlashback for Switch $1 ends 4/29Ghostbusters The Video Game Remastered $15.99 ends 4/29Capcom Spring Sale Switch Xbox Sales:Coming Soon to Xbox Game Pass for Console: Red Dead Redemption 2PlayStation Sale:Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain $3.99iOS Sales:Double Dragon Trilogy 1$ Another World - 20th Anniversary 1$
Improbable as it may seem, we are back for another podcast adventure! In this episode we are joined by friend of the show Jeff Roberts from the legendary (yes, legendary) band Marshall Art to discuss game soundtrack releases on vinyl that are a bit... unexpected. Anthony kicks us off with a look at the never-gonna-happen release of Castlevania: The Adventure ReBirth from ShiptoShore Media. We explore the downright oddity of the game, the music, and the canon of this entry in the Castlevania series, and revel in the FM-synthiness of it all. Also, we may have devised the greatest track title since "Load BGM." Next we move on to Namco Museum: Arcade Greatest Hits. This one is a bit improbable for different reasons, and Jeremy and Jeff pick a few favorites (and anti-favorites) from this indisputably archival release from Spacelab 9. Is video game music bleeps and bloops or is it not? Who knows? Changing things around for this episode, we discuss our never-ever-ever-ever-gonna-be-released-on-vinyl picks (perhaps tempting the fates? perhaps just wishlisting). Jeff pulls one from an era and a system you might not expect. Anthony gets out into left field with a hopeful release that may or may not be recorded in an airplane hangar. Jeremy goes for something that sounds great, but just may not have the same pull on others as it does for him. Finally we let you know what all your hard-earned money is begging to be spent on as we outline the new releases, as well as some represses and rumors. Join in! It's not like there's a lot else to do this week! This guy is intelligent, well spoken and I just listened to one show and subscribed.Garth emailed meI love the anecdotal family talk that fits into your Nintendo lifestyle of which you share on your podcast, it's this that has drove me to ask a question. A bit of background, my almost 3yr old daughter Indie (a reference to my love of indie games) recently completed the first level of Super Mario Land on the Gameboy I grew up playing the original Pokémon games on. This was her first video game level completed and although proud I was left with a question. How do I continue to introduce her to video games? The only other game she has ever played was Mario Kart 8 Deluxe with the joy-con steering wheels and all assists turned on, she loved this and I cherished the moment along with her.I know this is a personal question and I would not hold it against you to not answer but I relate to your podcast perhaps most on a fellow fatherly gamer level and just wondered how you introduced your kids to gaming and how you progressed those skills.I'd very much enjoy this subject to be a segment on one of your podcasts (just a suggestion), givin' some of your past experiences as I would love nothing more than to share my passion for Nintendo and games with my daughter as she grows.Keep up the great work, and we will all keep listening and coming back for more.
