Auf den Portalen gibt es Inhalte, die frei gelesen werden können und welche hinter der Bezahlschranke. Um die „Plus"-Inhalte lesen zu können, benötigt man ein Abo. Wir haben nun zwei Arten von Kampagnen auf Facebook. Zum einem haben wir Paid-Content-Kampagnen für bestimmte thematische Inhalte wie Beiträge zu Bildung oder zum Energiesparen. Zum anderen haben wir aber auch Kampagnen, in denen wir konkrete Angebote bewerben wie "10 Monate zahlen, 12 Monate lesen" oder Lead-Aktionen mit Gewinnspielen zur Akquise von Opt-Ins und Newsletter-Anmeldungen. America is a brand.  And if you are an American, you are an affiliate or brand ambassador.  Theoretically, we're paid in “freedom” and the benefits of living in this country. But are we being paid in full?  As both consumers and ambassadors, the questions to ask ourselves are:  “What is the value proposition? Does America deliver on its brand promise of freedom and justice for all? Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness? What are the benefits of my brand loyalty? And what are the costs of buying in?”  In this episode of Marketing Muckraking, I'm exploring America the brand and the history of patriotic advertising, both for the country and its companies.  Did you know that the Pledge of Allegiance was originally written by a Christian socialist copywriter for The Youth's Companion newspaper in 1892 as a way to sell more newspapers? Readers who sold the most newspapers were awarded a free flag!  The Pledge of Allegiance was advertising, first and foremost.  Join me as we examine America the Brand through:  Copywriting – there's no brand with more consistent language around “freedom” and “happiness” than America. Pain Points — the American brand appeals to our sense of scarcity and our fear of what would happen to us if we lived anywhere else.  Opt-Ins — when we vote, we opt in to a sense of political efficacy that keeps us invested in what we'll get in return. Do our politicians deliver?  Accept No Substitutes — as schoolchildren, we're taught that the USA is the greatest country on Earth and everything else falls short. Is it true?  Brand Loyalty — branding is meant to justify a higher price because of our emotional connections. What price do we pay for loyalty to Brand America? Is it worth the extra cost?  Branding, at the end of the day, is the engineering of a reputation.  America The Brand has sold us on a reputation of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.  If any other brand sold us this message and failed to deliver, we would stop buying. So why do we keep buying into this one?  Join me as we explore the history of selling America and using America to sell:  Colonial Advertising – America the Brand was sold to immigrants in order to populate the nation before it was even formally a country. Its free market was one of America's selling points, but the nation itself was its first product.  Post-Industrial Revolution Advertising – After the Industrial Revolution, the message of mass production was that the best way to exercise our freedom was through consumption. The American public was taught to buy constantly through, what Edward Filene called, "The School of Freedom": advertisers emphasizing the patriotic call of duty to "do the shopping."  WWI and WWII Advertising – War propaganda legitimized advertising as an industry and showed the powers that be that consistent and repetitive campaigns could shape public opinion. Advertisers sold American nationalism alongside star spangled corn biscuits and cigarettes.  Commodity Activism in Advertising – In response to counterculture, the struggles of marginalized communities to gain civil liberties, and their fight for representation, brands evolved to ads that positioned America as a utopian paradise of unity and diversity, where world peace was as easy as "buying the world a Coke" or purchasing from companies who ran social justice campaigns.  Ask yourself, "Does America deliver on its brand promise?" or does it simply offer layaway plans for freedom, asking us to keep making payments for a product it can't and won't deliver?

As we say goodbye to June and usher in the holiday weekend, there's still quite a bit to dissect in the world of sports as I'll share my thoughts and opinions on all that's happening! On deck: (4:05) NBA free agency begins tonight at 6pm. You've already had some players opt-in to their current deals (i.e. Kyrie Irving, Russell Westbrook) opt-out (i.e. James Harden, Bradley Beal) and a John Wall buyout in Houston as he heads to LA to play for the Clippers. I'll discuss their situations, the big trade between the Hawks and Spurs for Dejounte Murray, the Knicks impending signing of Jalen Brunson and much more as we gear up for some wheeling and dealing in the Association over the next week or so. (22:10) My beloved Mets have hit a bit of a tough stretch, including an awful loss yesterday as they were swept again by the Astros. I'll explain why I'm not happy with their latest defeat and how the Braves are putting the pressure on the Mets in the NL East. Also, we found out the REAL reason why Freddie Freeman did not re-sign with Atlanta in the off-season. I'll recap the aftermath of the Mariners-Angels brawl and the suspensions handed down where 12 players and coaches were affected. I'll get into some series concluding (Guardians-Twins) and beginning (Padres-Dodgers) as we inch closer to the halfway point of the season. (38:26) Wimbledon has been mostly chalk for the most part. The big match of the week was Serena Williams losing to Harmony Tan in an epic match on Tuesday. Is this the beginning of the end for the all-time great? (44:10) Baker Mayfield has made a declaration to the Browns organization as he feels it's time to move on and that they haven't reconciled with him, in light of the acquisition of Deshaun Watson. Here's another take on what Sales Funnels are actually meant to do. This episode should simplify everything part of your funnel. This is one of my favorite sales concepts to talk about…. because once you understand it, you'll see a MASSIVE increase in the conversion of your funnels. The biggest mistake I see people making in sales funnels is confusing leads and opt-ins. There's a significant difference between them. Sales funnels are meant to CLOSE leads, not to market to leads. Just because someone signs up for your stuff doesn't make them a lead. A lead is when someone shows intent to know more about your offer. With this in mind, once a lead lands in your sales funnel, you should immediately go for the close. Your sales funnel should be smoke out any objections just like a door-to-door salesperson would do. We had Sarah from Biz Template Babe on the podcast and discussed everything from what you should include in your opt-in to how to create templates to make it even easier. I recently came across a Facebook ad that mentioned templates for email opt-ins. It definitely caught my attention. Creating opt-ins can be incredibly time consuming and the idea of a template to help me out was enough to make me click the ad. The ad was from Sarah at Biz Template Babe. I ended up buying her templates. Now Angie and I both use them and want to let all of you know about them. Like most entrepreneurs, Sarah did a few things before arriving at her current business. She started out doing interior design and eventually moved into blogging a few years back. As she worked on building her own blog and business, she saw how long it was taking her to create things like sales pages, landing pages, Facebook ads, and other content. Even with the experience she had doing graphic design work from her time as an interior designer, it was still overwhelming and time-consuming. She noticed that there were a lot of pros online that had templates they used within their business, but she didn't really see much on the creative side as far as layouts and design. When she did this in her own business she found that she was saving 50-60% of the time that she previously spent doing this kind of work. That's when the idea came to her that she could create these templates to help other businesses as well. It's a lot like what we do as TpTers. We originally created resources that helped us in our classrooms and then found we could help other teachers by selling them as well. Also, for the WOW bonus, they're getting 4 sets of video lessons (4 topics; each has 6 short videos). Should I give away this much? Or change it to one set of video lessons about one topic (which would be 6 short videos)?" -  Jennifer "Please help me figure out how to start! I really want to teach parents how to use audio books and read alouds to make parenting easier and why how books trump technology. I want to teach them how using the right books can help make parenting easier because of bonding, character building, and getting to tackle important issues with their child through fiction. Is this even a good idea? I am struggling with the pain point and if people are searching for a solution. I am thinking the symptoms are disconnection, feeling too busy, feeling like you are failing as a parent, using screens to keep kids busy, etc. Can you help me get see a direction to go with this?" - Danae "My question today is about free Facebook content and lead magnets. I do understand the aspirin and vitamin analogy but I'm still struggling with what to giveaway in social media, and lead magnets, what to give away in e-mail and what to hold for paying customers only for my particular industry.
