In this episode: personal investments, 401k contributions, FI is for everyone, travel rewards, task management, and taxes. On what is considered a very personal journey, how do you handle changes that feel like setbacks? Whether its spending more when you feel you should be saving, or re-evaluating goals based on what needs immediate attention, do you feel equipped to handle it with confidence? This week we are having a weekly roundup, and are re-joined by Ginger to not only answer listener's questions, but discuss travel rewards, retirement accounts, and breaking away from the ultra frugal caricature often depicted alongside FI. While saving is an important factor on this journey, the main purpose of FI is to learn and live your life with intention as it relates to your money, goals, and values. Remember that it's okay if some of your goals and values will change along the way! Most people are resistant to change. We simply don't like it. We want things to be how they've been and disruptions and difficulties are viewed as setbacks. But what if change and pivoting are opportunities in disguise? What if they are the very catalyst needed to prompt your next great thing? To talk about his experiences with change I (Daniel) invited Jeff Boller, owner of Vision One Real Estate and one of the founders of Reeliti.com. Jeff shares about surviving the real estate bubble of 2008 and current changes on the horizon. We discuss being time driven, not getting mired in details, and focusing on the proper things for ROI. Jeff also shares some sage wisdom regarding pivoting, reframing opportunities, and priming for change. “Change can be a great thing. You just have to set your mind differently. You have to look at it as an opportunity and not as a disruption.” -- Jeff BollerWhat You'll LearnBeing time drivenProper focus for ROIReframing opportunitiesProcessing changeChoosing your mindsetDemonstrating tenacityRecommended ResourcesConnect with Jeff BollerJeff grew up on the East Coast in Maryland and graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Business degree in Marketing. For the past three weeks South Africa's largest asset managers - and particularly Coronation, Allan Gray and Ninety One - have been accused of profiteering at the expense of retail investors. This came in the wake of detailed analysis by Ranmore Funds founder Sean Peche, who holds both CA and CFA qualifications, which showed South African investors were paying much higher fees than their counterparts elsewhere in the world. Coronation's Head of Personal Investments, Pieter Koekemoer, presents the other side of the story in this Right of Reply discussion with Alec Hogg of BizNews.com. In it he argues that Peche's analysis is not a fair comparion; addresses the Coronation incentive model (30% of pretax profits as a bonus); responds to Sygnia founder Magda Wierzycka's scathing attack in Coroantion's culture - and explains why it has taken so long for the JSE-listed company to respond. Stock markets can be a difficult beast for most people to understand. How do you maintain a portfolio be it a small personal portfolio or a full hedge fund, keep it diverse enough to protect itself, as well as profitable? It requires a lot of work, a lot of information, and the ability to make decisions based on all of that. People are okay at pulling all of that together, but computers are getting to be better at it. That's where Deep Money comes in.This artificial intelligence system is designed to watch for certain leading indicators across a stock market and make buying and selling decisions and predictions based on those indicators. Large investors, like hedge funds, use technology like this every day to manage their millions of dollars, but nothing lie it has never been available to the average investor. Now, everyone can have the ability to manage their money, no matter how much, without having to hover over a computer all day, every day.Deep Money is so confident in their technology that they are putting their money where their mouth is. They believe that the only way to prove out the technology is to use it in live markets. As part of that test, they are developing an in-house hedge fund which will be the first-ever fully autonomous hedge fund in Latin America and will be built on their technology. The platform also offers a robust API, allowing customers to build additional systems on top of the existing technology. This could be a custom reporting application or a complete way to manage and maintain your investments. The platform is live right now in the US and India, with the company running live tests in the market.
