Italy's Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni - the first woman to occupy that role - has faced one of her biggest international tests yet. She is the first European leader to go to Washington to meet President Trump since his recent announcement of new tariffs on the EU. So how did Meloni's meeting with Donald Trump go, and how is Giorgia Meloni being seen back home, particularly by Italian women? Kylie Pentelow is joined by Laura Gozzi, Senior News and Foreign Affairs Journalist at the BBC.For the first time in its 900 year history, girls will be singing in the choir at St Paul's Cathedral on Easter Sunday. We hear from some of the girl choristers, and Kylie speaks to Dr Katherine Hambridge, Associate Professor of Musicology at the University of Durham and Carris Jones, Vicar Choral and Girls' Voices Project Manager at St Paul's Cathedral about the significance of this moment.Eczema is a complex long-term condition involving the immune system, genetics, skin barrier and the environment. 1 in 5 children and 1 in 10 adults have it. With NHS waiting times for dermatology appointments varying widely depending on location - many young women have taken to social media to talk about the condition, their own skin journeys and share photographs. Kylie is joined by two of them, Chloe Tatton and Katie Mackie, who both grew up with eczema; and Dr Tess McPherson, Consultant Dermatologist from the British Association of Dermatologists and the author of Skin Conditions in Young People. In Emma Gannon's new novel Table for One, the main character Willow learns to embrace the benefits of her new-found singledom after years of being in a relationship - and that includes learning to do typical couple activities, like going out for dinner, alone. Emma joins Kylie to discuss this, alongside expert on all things self-care, psychologist Suzy Reading. Presenter: Kylie Pentelow Producer: Rebecca Myatt

'The Trump whisperer': Papers react to Trump's meeting with Meloni

PRESS REVIEW – Friday, 18 April: Papers in Italy discuss Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's visit to the White House. Next, US President Donald Trump escalates his battle with Harvard University and academia in the United States. Also, rising chocolate and egg prices put a dampener on Easter. Finally, the winner of the World Press Photo competition is a haunting photo of a young Palestinian boy. Giorgia Meloni's visit to the White House is on most of Italy's front pages. La Stampa reclaims the British "special relationship" on its front page. The right-leaning paper Libero praises the Italian leader for having successfully invited Trump to discussions with European leaders on the EU-US trade conflict. The left-leaning daily Il Fatto Quotidiano, meanwhile, is slightly more critical of the visit. The article talks about a slightly tense moment in the meeting where Trump and Meloni did not see eye-to-eye on Ukraine. In the US, The New York Times looks at the similarities between the two leaders and why they might get along. The Guardian is also focusing on the relationship between Meloni and Trump, suggesting that they speak the same language. It says Meloni has been labelled the Trump whisperer, "deemed capable of awakening the concealed angels of his nature".In the US, the arm wrestling between Harvard and the Trump administration continues. The Associated Press brings us news that Trump has now threatened to block the university from enrolling international students, and has called to revoke Harvard's tax-exempt status. Newsweek had an opinion piece arguing that Trump's financial assault on Harvard demonstrates a fundamental disregard for constitutional law. Back in France, the US president's offensive on Harvard and universities is the front page of Libération, which says that more than six universities could be the target of sanctions if they do not comply with reforms. The Guardian says that amid the crackdown on research and academia in the US, the French University of Aix-Marseille has come up with a programme called "Safe Place for Science".With Easter round the corner, many are already looking forward to their chocolate binging, but the mood this year is slightly dampened. Le Figaro looks at why chocolate bunnies and Easter eggs are so much more expensive today than they were last year. It puts it down to bad cocoa harvests, poor working conditions for cocoa farmers and increasing speculation. The Independent says that nearly half of Americans will skip Easter traditions because of high prices, which have become increasingly so because of inflation and Trump's trade war. Despite the high prices, it seems that demand for chocolate is still strong this Easter. Swissinfo tells us that 23 million chocolate rabbits have been produced in Switzerland so far. Finally, the winner of the World Press Photo Competition was announced on Thursday, and it is a haunting picture. As the BBC reports, the winning photograph is a portrait of nine-year-old Mahmoud Ajjour recovering from war injuries. The young Palestinian boy lost both his arms in an Israeli air strike on Gaza. The photo was taken by Palestinian photographer Samar Abu Elouf for The New York Times. You can catch our press review every morning on France 24 at 7:20am and 9:20am (Paris time), from Monday to Friday.

(Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Kevin Swanson 5 Nigerian guards saved village of 300 from deadly Fulani Muslims A civilian team of five guards saved a village of 300 in Plateau State, Nigeria last week from an attack by Fulanis, a fundamentalist Muslim sect. Four of the guards gave up their lives, and one survived the attack. The team's pipe guns apparently deterred further carnage.   According to the Observatory for Religious Freedom in Africa, the Fulani have been responsible for over 50,000 murders in the last four years. Plus, Truth Nigeria issued an early warning advisory to the villages before the attack occurred. TruthNigeria.com is a project of Equipping the Persecuted, dedicated to saving lives and providing help for one of the most dangerous and difficult areas in the world for Christians today. Support Equipping the Persecuted through a special link  in our transcript today at www.TheWorldview.com.  Italy prohibits homosexual couple from adopting Last week, the Italian parliament voted to ban international surrogacy, disallowing homosexuals from purchasing children for their own use or abuse. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni backed the law, which added to the current prohibition on domestic surrogacy. Italy has banned all adoptions to “homosexual” men and women. Spain, France, Germany, and Sweden have also banned domestic surrogacy, the terrible practice of women renting out their own wombs.    The European Parliament voted in April of this year to include surrogate motherhood among the acts of human trafficking.  Kamala's anti-Christian hostility vs. J.D.'s affirmation of “Jesus as King” Two political rallies in Wisconsin over the weekend involved members of the audience calling out “Christ is King! Jesus is Lord,” reports Fox News. Listen to what the Christian yelled out followed by Kamala Harris' dismissive and hostile response at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. AUDIENCE MEMBER: “Christ is King. Jesus is Lord.” HARRIS: “Oh, you guys are at the wrong rally! (cheers) No, I think you meant to go to the smaller one down the street.” Later, at a Trump rally, a member of the audience called out again, “Jesus is King!” Listen carefully for the comment that “Jesus is King” right after Vance states that there is something bizarre with Kamala Harris' anti-Christian approach to public policy.    Then, take note of Vance's affirmation of that truth. VANCE: “There is something really bizarre with Kamala Harris's anti-Christian rhetoric and anti-Christian approach to public policy.” AUDIENCE MEMBER: “Jesus is King!” VANCE: “I don't think we've just, I don't think that we've That's right, Jesus is King. And I don't think that we've seen …” (cheers) Psalm 2:10-11 instructs the kings of the earth: “Now therefore, be wise, O kings; Be instructed, you judges of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, and you perish in the way, when His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.” Trump and Harris are running neck and neck As we approach the November presidential election, the polls have Donald Trump and Kamala Harris running neck and neck. The recent Suffolks University/USA Today poll puts the two candidates 50% to 49%, with Harris slightly ahead. The AtlasIntel poll puts Trump 3 points ahead.   The Trafalgar Group has Donald Trump ahead by 3% in Pennsylvania, ahead 2% in North Carolina, ahead by 1.5% in Arizona, ahead by 2% in Michigan, and behind by 1% in Nevada. And recent Newsweek and Redfield and Wilton polling has found that Americans are placing a pro-abortion position as high on their list as they approach the election.  In order of importance, Americans put the economy as the highest priority, abortion as the second highest, and immigration as the third highest priority. For Republican voters, abortion is the fourth most important issue, with only 21% choose this issue as high on their list. For Democrat voters, abortion is the most important issue, with 58% of likely voters calling this out as high on their list. Girl Scouts lost 1.5 million members over perversion push Membership in the Girl Scouts of America has dropped off to 1.5 million, down from 3.2 million in the 1970s. Practically speaking, this means they're losing money.   Consequently, the national council has recently voted to increase dues by 160% over the next three years. Last year, the American Girl Scout added a special edition Pride Patch for girls completing homosexual-themed activities during the Pride month of June, when homosexuals dedicate themselves to proud displays of their licentiousness. Romans 1:26 and 32 explains, “For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.” Copy of U.S. Constitution sells for $9 million And finally, a 1787 copy of the U.S. Constitution was sold for $9 million at an auction in North Carolina last Thursday.   The copy was found in a filing cabinet on a property previously owned by Samuel Johnston, governor of North Carolina between 1787 and 1789. This is the “the only located privately held, officially signed ratification copy of the United States Constitution.”  Close And that's The Worldview on this Tuesday, October 22nd, in the year of our Lord 2024. Subscribe by Amazon Music or by iTunes or email to our unique Christian newscast at www.TheWorldview.com. Renowned historian Antonio Scurati was booked to deliver a monologue on a talk show on Italian broadcaster RAI 3 on 25th April, Italy's Liberation Day, when it commemorates victory over fascism. In this speech, he was planning to accuse Meloni's government of sticking to ideologies of neo-fascist culture. But then his appearance was cancelled—leading to allegations that the Italian PM is trying to turn state broadcasters into her own “megaphone”. She wouldn't be the first European leader exert control over their country's media. There are concerns that Meloni is planning to take the Italian media down a similar road to that of Viktor Orbán's Hungary, where independent journalists operate in a climate of fear and intimidation. The Russian election has sparked a tussle between Italy's Prime Minister and her Deputy.   Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini has gone against the critical response from Western leaders, saying that the voters' verdict must be accepted.  Salvini was a stanch ally of Putin's before the February 2022 invasion of Ukraine, and said that the results must be accepted as “when people vote they are always right”.  Italy Correspondent Jo McKenna told Mike Hosking that this reinforces the murky relationship that Salvini and Putin have had over the years.  Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has been trying to play down these comments, McKenna said, coming out very strongly to show support for Ukraine and Navalny.  LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In the spotlight this week in our whistle-stop debate series featuring each of the EU's 27 member states ahead of June's European elections: Italy. Europe's third-biggest economic power has seen a growing rivalry between the right-wing Brothers of Italy party, led by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and her even further right coalition partner, Deputy Premier Matteo Salvini, who heads the far-right League party. When Meloni led a hard-right coalition to power in October 2022 – becoming Italy's first female premier – most headlines were about her party's rise from neo-fascist roots, and her record of bashing the European Union and migrants. Since then, she has sought to fashion herself as a more mainstream conservative, working with fellow EU leaders, and staunchly supporting Ukraine in its fight against Russia. Today, Italy – and Meloni – are front and centre ahead of European elections in which right-wing parties are poised to see big gains.

Migrants make the dangerous journey across the Mediterranean in crowded boats that often sink or capsize. Search and rescue ships crewed by volunteers make it their mission to save the lives of migrants who make the crossing looking for new lives. However the Italian government's approach to the boats has got much tougher since the election of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Pope Francis met Orbán during his 2021 visit to Hungary and in the Vatican in 2022. Novák, who was elected president of Hungary in March 2022, met Pope Francis at the Vatican last August. A Christian wife and mother, Novák was formerly Hungary's family minister. The boat that was transporting them crashed into the rocks a few meters from the coast of the village of Steccato di Cutro in Calabria. Italian authorities continue to search with boats for dozens still missing at sea. According to some witnesses, the ship carried about 250 people on board. Some 80 migrants have been rescued so far. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed on February 26 “her deep regret for the numerous human lives cut short by human traffickers.” https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/253749/shipwreck-leaves-more-than-50-migrants-dead-in-italy-the-church-expresses-pain Pope Francis said a spontaneous prayer for peace during a Vatican event for the first anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine on Friday. After saying a few words about the war in Ukraine, the pope invited those present to pray with him. “Holy Father, who art in heaven, look at our miseries, look at our wounds, look our pain. Look also at our selfishness, our petty interests, and the capacity we have to destroy ourselves,” he prayed. “Heal us. Heal our hearts, heal our minds, heal our eyes that they may see the beauty that you have made and not destroy it in selfishness. Sow in us the seed of peace. Amen.” https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/253747/this-was-pope-francis-spontaneous-prayer-for-ukraine-on-anniversary-of-war Today, the Church celebrates Blessed Maria Caridad Brader, Despite her mother's opinion, Maria entered a Franciscan convent in 1880. She made her final vows two years later and began teaching at the convent school. At the end of the 19th century, it became permissible for cloistered nuns to work as missionaries. Maria volunteered to be one of the first of six sisters to work in Ecuador. Maria served as a teacher and catechist in Ecuador. In 1893, she was transferred to Colombia to attend to the sick and rejected. In response to an urgent need for missionaries, Maria founded the Congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of Mary Immaculate in 1893 in Colombia. Maria served as the congregation's superior general until 1919 and again from 1928 to 1940. Maria urged her sisters to combine contemplation and action with great care. Her congregation also emphasized good education for both the sisters and their students. Maria died in 1943 in Colombia and her grave immediately became a popular pilgrimage site. She was beatified by St. John Paul II in 2003. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/saint/blessed-maria-caridad-brader-160

The continent of Europe has been home to every conceivable type of government over thousands of years, with democracy being the dominant force since the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 and the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991. Yet, with the elections of far-right politicians across the continent in recent years, the landscape has changed. In this episode of Big World, SIS professor and Transatlantic Policy Center co-director Garret Martin joins us to evaluate what this shift toward right-wing nationalism might mean for the future of European democracy. Professor Martin defines far-right nationalism (2:27) and explains its difference from the mainstream conservatism that functions within democratic norms (4:48). He discusses how Brexit has changed politics and the internal dynamics of political parties in the United Kingdom (6:17). He also talks about the results of Sweden's most recent general election and the new right-wing majority bloc (8:00). What effect does American support for right-wing leaders like Polish president Andrzej Duda and Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orbán have on European politics (11:25)? How has the war in Ukraine further complicated relationships and intercontinental politics among European countries (21:36)? Martin answers these questions and discusses what we can expect from Italy's new government, led by far-right Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni (24:55). The episode concludes as Martin examines both the extent to which this surge of right-wing parties threatens European democracy (29:13) and also current measures the European Union is taking to put pressure on countries that act undemocratically (31:04). During our “Take Five” segment, Martin shares five ways in which Europeans—whether officially, as in the European Union, or unofficially at the individual citizen level—can act to safeguard democracy (15:48).

This time, it was only a sweater. 一台推土機停了下來,夜裡一片寂靜,消防員在發電機燈光下發現一件粉紅色毛衣,把手伸到泥濘的廢墟中。這次,它只是件毛衣。 Torrential rains last weekend sent a powerful landslide plowing through Casamicciola Terme, a port town on the southern Italian island of Ischia, killing 12 residents — including a newborn baby and two small children — and washing away houses and burying streets. This past week, rescue workers and volunteers continued to dig for survivors and to unearth the town from thick rivers of mud. But as some evacuees came back to search for their belongings, many felt an unwelcome scrutiny from a nation that was asking whether the island's abundance of illegally constructed houses had increased the vulnerability of a town that sits in a geologically fragile zone across the bay from Naples. Authorities have not clarified which buildings, if any, may have been illegally built. But a series of amnesties over decades from various Italian governments may have rendered most of them legal in any case. That has set off hand-wringing among politicians, including the far-right party of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and a bitter round of finger pointing over who was to blame. “We have no zoning plan since the 1960s,” Vincenzo Capuano, 64, a town resident, said as friends emptied his basement of mud one bucket at a time. “Politicians have never decided where residents can build here. There is no way to build legally.” 64歲鎮民卡普阿諾在朋友們一桶又一桶清理他的地下室泥漿時說:「自1960年代以來,我們就毫無區域規劃。政治人物從未決定可在哪裡蓋房。根本沒辦法合法建造。」 Illegal construction has blighted Italy's coastlines, hilly landscapes and cities, but the practice is especially endemic in the poorer southern regions, including Campania. On Ischia, an island of 63,000 famous for its thermal baths, 27,000 requests for amnesty on illegal works are pending, from altered windows to entire homes. Italy has a long history of condoning these illegal constructions, and the anticipation that another amnesty will always arrive has prompted offenders to keep building illegally, marring some of the country's most pristine beaches with shoddy, and unsightly, homes. 義大利長期縱容這些違建,人們對另一次特赦總會到來的預期,促使違法者繼續蓋違建,以粗製濫造、難看的房屋破壞該國一些最原始的海灘。 On the night of the landslide, mud pounded Via Celario and Via Santa Barbara, the most damaged residential streets, washing away about 10 homes. Within them, four children slept. The youngest, a 22-day-old infant, was found dead in his dead mother's arms. 土石流當晚,塞拉里歐和聖巴巴拉是受災最嚴重的住宅區街道,約10棟房舍被土石流沖走,裡面睡著4個孩子。當中最小的是22天大的嬰兒,被發現死在他死去母親懷裡。Source article: https://udn.com/news/story/6904/6845044 Powered by Firstory Hosting

Turkey's Erdogan cosies up to Italy's far-right Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Italy's newly elected far-right Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni appear to be finding unlikely common ground on issues relating to Africa and migration. Meloni's is the latest in a list of strong partnerships that Erdogan has been working to build with European far-right leaders. At the first meeting between Erdogan and Meloni, there were smiles and a warm handshake on the sidelines of the G-20 gathering in Indonesia. Despite one of Meloni's first moves after winning the general election calling for a freeze on mosque construction in Italy. Common ground At the same time, Erdogan is positioning himself as a defender of Muslim rights, at home and abroad, as he heads into elections next year. But Huseyin Bagci, head of the Ankara-based Foreign Policy Institute, says the Italian and Turkish leaders have plenty of common ground.  "Tayyip Erdogan is an Islamist and a Turk. Meloni is Christian and Italian. So, they understand each other much better," said Bagci. "They don't talk about certain values, democratic values, they talk about the religious values, they talk about the nationalistic values, and I think they will understand each other much better than the others," added Bagci. One of Meloni's priorities is to stem migration from Africa, much of which comes through Libya. In addition, Turkey has strong ties with Libya's Government of National Unity, giving Erdogan a vital bargaining chip. "Turkey now has a base in west Libya. It controls all critical infrastructure in west Libya. And as you know, west Libya is a very important human trafficking point to Europe," pointed out," Aya Burweila, a visiting lecturer on security at the Hellenic National Defense College in Athens."  "So, Turkey now has a base in North Africa. They control the ports right now in western Libya," added Burweila. "They control the militias in west Libya involved in human trafficking. So definitely, this is a bargaining chip with them going Europe." Italy's far-right Meloni becomes country's first woman to lead government Strained relationships But Rome could pay a high cost for deepening ties with Ankara. Relations between Turkey and European Union member Greece over several territorial disputes, with the country's armed forces regularly challenging one another. Turkey also has strained relations with Egypt, an important trading partner of Italy.  "I think Italy has not forgotten that it's a European nation," points Mediterranean analyst Jalal Harchaoui of the civil-society network Global Initiative.  "Italy also has a lot of hydrocarbon business going with Egypt. It's not in the business of angering Egypt particularly. So, I would really keep a distinction between Turkey and Italy. Italy is not very happy to see this level of controversy," added Harchaoui.  Italian analysts also point out that while Meloni campaigned on a platform attacking the European Union leadership, the new Italian Prime Minister now in power is seeking to consolidate her position, which, at least for now, appears to be seeking to avoid confrontation with Brussels. "In the electoral campaign during which Meloni declared her party is not so European integrated and so on and so forth. After having won the election, she decided to turn to a more European-integrated foreign policy. Tightening the alliance with Nato, with the other western allies with the United States and the European Union," observes Alessia Chiriatti, a researcher on the Mediterranean, Middle East, and North Africa for the Italian-based IAI think tank says. Who is Giorgia Meloni, the far-right contender set to be Italy's first female PM? Italy and Europe Chiriatti argues Meloni will be careful not to isolate herself in Europe with her dealings with Erdogan. "The Meloni foreign policy will be related to Italian membership in the European Union. So it could be possible to collaborate more intensively with Turkey on migration Italian role in Maghreb and Middle East but not without the European dimension for Meloni and for Italy," added Chiriatti. But Meloni and Erdogan share strained relations with French President Emmanuel Macron over incidents in which Italian authorities recently refused to allow a ship carrying migrants to dock. The vessel then had to go to France, where the migrants finally disembarked. The Turkish and Italian leaders also aim to challenge France's lucrative economic interests in Africa. Paris Perspective #32: NATO and the Erdogan paradox - Dorothée Schmid Relations with France During her election campaign, Meloni slammed France's colonial record in Africa and accused Paris of persisting with a colonial mentality towards African countries. Her words echo Erdogan's frequent criticism of France. Erdogan has years of experience working with other far-right and right-wing European leaders like Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orban.  "He actually has a good working relationship with Islamaphobe autocrats like Orban, for instance, or like Putin, for instance, who might not be seen as a particular pro-Islamist. I mean, who might not be seen as a particular pro-Islamist," notes Senem Aydin-Duzgit a professor of international relations at Sabanci University near Istanbul. "So, it doesn't matter if she's (Meloni) far right, and I think it might even work more to his (Erdogan) interests that she is far right. Because he, Turkey, the current Turkish government, is quite happy to see a Europe that's disunited and that is devoid of so-called values." Istanbul's newest bridge was built by an Italian company. Trade is the bedrock of Italian-Turkish ties, which the two countries leaders appear ready to build upon.

Meloni has described herself in speeches as a Christian and has publicly expressed her admiration for St. John Paul II and her desire to meet Pope Francis in person. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/252628/pope-francis-prays-for-italy-as-giorgia-meloni-becomes-first-female-prime-minister Archbishop Charles Chaput, emeritus of Philadelphia, said on Saturday that President Joe Biden “is not in communion with the Catholic faith” and that “any priest who now provides Communion to the president participates in his hypocrisy.” Biden supports abortion, despite the Catholic Church's teaching that abortion is a grave evil and that human life is sacred from the moment of conception. In his address, Chaput said many Catholics, “even many who regularly attend Sunday Mass, no longer believe in the Real Sacrifice or the Real Presence.” https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/252624/archbishop-chaput-president-biden-not-in-communion-with-catholic-faith On Friday, the police of the dictatorship in Cuba interrogated Adrián Martínez Cádiz, EWTN correspondent in Havana, and later fined him 3,000 Cuban pesos (about $125) for having criticized the regime on social media. In a statement to EWTN Noticias, Martínez said that he attended the summons at the Plaza de la Revolución Police Station around 10 a.m., where he was interrogated for an hour by a lieutenant colonel. Before being fined, the officer began to fill out an official written warning in order for the journalist to make a commitment to the Cuban State. On Sunday, September 25th, Italy held a snap election following the resignation of prime minister Mario Draghi and the dissolution of the Italian Parliament. The election resulted in a parliamentary majority a right-wing coalition led by Fratelli d'Italia (or Brothers of Italy), a far-right party with roots in postwar Italian neofascist movements. The party and its leader, new Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, espouse social conservatism, nationalism, populism, opposition to immigration, and Euroscepticism. Meloni's election holds significant policy implications not only for domestic Italian society, but also for Italy's relationship with the European Union and the wider world. Noelle Turtur, the Eugen and Jacqueline Weber Postdoctoral Scholar in European History at UCLA, joins Ben Zdencanovic on Then & Now to discuss the historical roots Italian fascism, the legacies of fascism in Italian politics, and what Meloni's election might mean for Italy and the international system.

How dare this unelected globalist technocrat threaten a free and democratic people like this! It is an outrage. This threat to bring the EU mechanism to bear against Italy if Italian voters give Giorgia Meloni power at this weekend's election is a staggering moment. It shows what the EU is really about: not democracy, but rule by globalist elites." This brings us to the question of 'Why do they hate her so much?' THE THESIS: The Party hates participatory democracies and are doing everything they can to destroy them. Italian voters elect a populist coalition and an unelected paper-bully at the EU says she has “tools” to punish them for choosing a “difficult direction.” Not all of them understand this, but many do: by constantly attacking and punishing the choice of voters, The Party is demonstrating that voting is not enough. What comes after populism? Revolution.  THE SCRIPTURE & SCRIPTURAL RESOURCES:  The Party, which is comprised largely of atheists, likes to wag Romans 13 in the face of Christians. And, indeed, we are to follow the law . . . so long as following the law does not violate the Word of God. For some reason, The Party chooses to ignore they are to follow the law as well. The EU threatening Italian voters is lawless thuggery. In America, our ultimate civil authority is the Constitution and The Party is attacking that as well, again ignoring their Romans 13 obligation.  Romans 13 Submission to Governing Authorities 13 Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2 Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. 3 For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended. 4 For the one in authority is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God's servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. 5 Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also as a matter of conscience. 6 This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God's servants, who give their full time to governing. 7 Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor. Love Fulfills the Law 8 Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law. 9 The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” 10 Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. The Day Is Near 11 And do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. 12 The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. 13 Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. 14 Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh. Congratulations, she said. “You are now part of the swamp…I'm sorry you were ever elected…You are officially a politician…I have cried over you and my heart is broken by you.”See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

On today's episode of The MeidasTouch Podcast, we dig into the vast divide forming across the globe as the battle between democracy and autocracy reaches a boiling point not seen since the last World War. Italy has elected as Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, the leader of the hard-right Brothers of Italy, a party which is the most direct descendant of Mussolini's fascist party. Protests in Iran have erupted after the alleged killing of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini. Russia's mobilization against Ukraine has gotten off to a humiliating start as citizens of military age flee the country. Meanwhile, back in the United States, the Republicans have pitched their ‘Commitment For Cruelty' plan, which is thin on policy, but full of ways they plan to strip back Americans' rights. Donald Trump held another deranged, yet sparsely-attended rally. The Texas Tribune festival featured a range of speakers including Liz Cheney, Pete Buttegieg, Gavin Newsom. Oh, and Ted Cruz got booed and heckled, too. The stark contrast between democratic and autocratic forces have never been greater, and we break it all down on today's episode! Kicking off the new week with Rich Baris (PeoplesPundit.Locals.com) as we are knocking on October's front door, and there is a rash of European elections swinging pro-Nationalist we need to talk about. First it was Sweden, and now the Italians elected Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who has the Left scared shitless. We'll discuss this and whether it is a bellwether for American in November. In the second half, some questions from the audience, some random thoughts on the absurdity of modern sports broadcasting, and then some calls -- including one memorable call on DNA Ancestry to end the show.
