Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for July 9, 2024 is: respite RESS-pit noun Respite refers to a short period of time when someone is able to stop doing something that is difficult or unpleasant, or when something difficult or unpleasant stops or is delayed. // The long weekend provided a nice respite from the pressures of her job. // The station's meteorologist had predicted that the bad weather would continue through the week without respite. See the entry > Examples: "Shaded spots are necessary for a respite from the North Texas sun. If your deck or patio isn't covered, add a stylish umbrella to the mix." — Ryan Conner and Mary Grace Granados, The Dallas Morning News, 13 Mar. 2023 Did you know? Everyone needs a little R & R from time to time. That's where respite comes in handy: this word was first used in the 14th century to refer to a delay or extension asked for or granted for a specific reason, such as to give someone time to deliberate on a proposal. This kind of respite offered an opportunity for the kind of consideration inherent in this word's etymology: respite traces from the Latin term respectus (also the source of English's respect), which comes from respicere, a verb with both concrete and abstract meanings: "to turn around to look at" or "to regard." Within a few decades of its earliest known use, English speakers had granted respite the sense we use most often today—"a welcome break."

Tune in as Ryan Conner (Millennial Coffee Break) comes back to 2CC for the third episode of Christmas Month 2022, where we're sharing our thoughts and feelings on While You Were Sleeping, the 1995 Christmas-y rom-com starring Sandra Bullock as a lonely train station tollbooth worker who falls for a man, then falls for his family—but only after she saves him from getting run over by a train, then gets herself tangled up in a huge lie about her being his fiancée. A few of the topics that Arthur and Ryan comment on are characters breaking numerous moral and ethical boundaries in WYWS, the theoretical importance of leaning, farcical comedy's love of the miscommunication trope, and movie titles getting dropped with varying levels of clumsiness somewhere into the dialogue. Directed by Jon Turteltaub (National Treasure), While You Were Sleeping stars Sandra Bullock, Bill Pullman, Peter Gallagher, Peter Boyle, Jack Warden, Glynis Johns, Micole Mercurio, Jason Bernard, Michael Rispoli, Ally Walker, Monica Keena, Ruth Rudnick, Marcia Wright, and Dick Cusack. Spoilers start at 14:00 Good Word: • Ryan: Netflix's Wednesday • Arthur: Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio on Netflix Reach out at email2centscritic@yahoo.com if you want to recommend things to watch and read, share anecdotes, or just say hello! The Russian war in Ukraine and Europe's current energy crisis are inextricably linked. Recent crisis-response techniques in the European Union appear to have been successful for the continent, resulting in just enough stored energy to survive through the coming winter. Looking ahead, medium- and long-term policies targeted at diversifying energy sources will be vital for economic and environmental sustainability in Europe. This week, we spoke with Max Gruenig, a climate and energy economist and Professor at Georgetown's Walsh School of Foreign Service. Our conversation touches on the energy crisis, Europe's most recent efforts to combat it, and Ukraine's future in the EU. It's been a long time since we left you without a podcast to step to, but the Air Buds are back to talk about the NBA Draft with returning champ/special co-host Ryan Conner! We talk about the Bulls' terrible decision to trade Jimmy Butler, do some (shitty) Draft analysis, and speculate wildly on the upcoming free agency season. Also, this episode takes place in an alternate reality where the Cavs won the 2017 NBA Finals.
Ryan Conner comes by to tell Danny about his very unique upbringing in Virginia proper, his love for Mozart and how he works himself to the bone writing comedy. We discuss philosophy from John Donne about isolation. Enjoy!
The Air Buds are a man down for this episode, but they pulled through strong! Jamel and Mike talk about all-star selections, flopping controversies, and where Carmelo should be traded to. Then they welcome guest Ryan Conner (Last Comic Standing) and get super technical about the Bulls, apocryphal Michael Jordan stories, and playing street ball. It's a fun one!

Quincy kicks off Chillin with Quincy with two of his favorite comics, Rory Scovel and Ryan Conner, to talk about comedy, music, and life.
@RCcomedy breaks down his joke about his family and how they’re different
On today’s show, Danny Lobell and Chris “big love” Iacono were joined by Gina “Jesus Freak” Brillon on the third mic. The three begin by talking about an upcoming bit that involves a black tranny. Danny and Chris were expecting an ugly tranny to respond to the ad and the one they got is actually rather good looking. Danny resents boobs whereas Chris is a boobs guy. Gina shares a few anecdotes of her trials and tribulations dealing with older people. Danny recalls a childhood memory of not being picked for a flag football team. The first guest of the episode was John Gemberling of the UCB’s Death by Roo Roo Improv Team. Danny has seen him perform before and truly thinks John will go places. Because of this prediction, John says when he makes it big he will give Danny $100. The second guest is Ryan Conner. He recently went on tour in China and shared a few stories with the crew about the scams he fell for while there. Danny relates his pizza addiction to a heroin addiction. Reese Waters joined the group for the end of the show. Reese has been on “Letterman” recently and this sparks a conversation about how the comics feel as though they’re judged by their peers during a set. At the end of the show, Reese proclaims his distaste for Baltimore and Kylie jumps on the mic to defend it, her old stomping grounds.
