GamerDude continues with his discussion of weird facts and odd information he's collected over the years. He talks about his fascination with books like the Information Please almanac, and shares some passages from The Public Speaking Treasure Chest, a book he has from 1942. He talks about how much he liked puzzles and riddles when he was growing up. He shares some of the riddles from a book he has from 1968, which is chock full of quizzes, puzzles and riddles.  He also shares a couple of the stories from The Stupid History of the Human Race, because it just serves to confirm that, for however long people have been around, they remain dependably stupid. GamerDude finishes up with one of his favorite stories about how the Roman Empire influenced the design of the Space Shuttle.  It's based on one of those old sayings that we all like to wish was applied more often: If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Kennedy before talking about numerous other facts he's accumulated. He talks about how footprints in concrete came to be a "thing" in front of Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood. He talks about some word origins and how they came to be.  He has stories about ancient explorers and the brilliant idea the Office of Stragegic Services had for ending World War II. And, he talks about one theory about how the suits in a deck of cards came to be.

Iceland, the land of fire and ice, is full of fascinating and sometimes strange facts. In this podcast episode, I'm sharing 15 surprising facts about this country that you probably have never heard about. I know that I was surprised by many of them when I first heard them, and I hope that you enjoy learning something new about the country. 15 Strange Facts About Iceland Most of Iceland is uninhabited Beer was illegal in the country for 74 years During the month of Þorri, many Icelanders come together to eat the food of their ancestors, including fermented shark, ram's testicles, sheepshead 24-hour bright days during the summer in Iceland. Here is a great graph of daylight hours in Reykjavik depending on what time of year you plan to visit. Long winter nights and hardly any daylight The first day of summer is in April and it is a national holiday If it weren't for constant volcanic activity under Iceland that creates new land, the country would split in half There are over 130 words in Icelandic just to describe the wind No passenger train in Iceland but there was a train line once for a construction project No Uber or Lyft type of services in Iceland No McDonald's Iceland won 3 wars against the British called The Cod Wars. You can listen to my episode about the Cod Wars here. The eruption of Laki in the 1700s resulted in a ton of ash was in the air and spread to many parts of Europe and even Africa! This ash cloud caused the global temperature to drop. Some think that this drop in temperature caused food shortages in France, which helped to ignite the French Revolution. At the sorcery and witchcraft museum, there is a replica of human skin pants that were said to have been made by sorcerers who wanted to be wealthy. Only about 10% of the country is covered in Iceland https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E_DTHHz9GcI Icelandic Word of the Episode Skrítinn - weird or strange Share This Post Facebook Email Twitter Þakka þér kærlega fyrir að hlusta og sjáumst fljótlega (Thank you for listening and see you later) Let's Be Social Instagram Tiktok Youtube Facebook

A semblance of normalcy has returned to the BOX and DJ has finally made it back to the gym.  But not without issue!  Our host walks us through how his social anxiety works, in general, and specifically as it pertains to things in a post-COVID world.  Despite being "averagely" smart and a good "understanderer", he is unable to handle these 'return to normal' situations properly, all while excelling at any chance to self-sabotage what he's trying to accomplish here.  He seems to have a remarkably high amount of anxiety when approaching a "2-door situation", but it turns out he's in good company with almost all of the chat having the same issue.  DJ also talks about the stupidity of "revenge travel" and wonders how people are feeling about jumping back into things given what we've learned about the world over the past 15 months - and the people in it.  He's also got more kind words for the new Bo Burnham special and finds a kindred spirit of sorts in Jeff from "I Call Fives" during this week's Bacon Is My Podcast interview. Pringles' "Strange Facts", DJ keeps using his microphone wrong, having social anxiety back when it was still called "shy" and MORE!  This ain't your mom's lunchbox.   Sadly, despite paying full royalties on the BOX, the RIAA "antipiracy" department has rules against using copyrighted material without permission on the podcast replay, so you won't hear anything except direct submissions here, but you can still catch all the music from the show when the BOX runs live, Thursdays at noon on 99WNRR.com #onthebox Be social with DJ and Revel 9: https://www.revel9.com Music: Spotify: https://tinyurl.com/y4pjyokr Apple: https://tinyurl.com/yy6od4mz Physical: https://revel9.com/store Social: YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/revel9band FB: https://www.facebook.com/revel9 IG: http://www.instagram.com/revel9band/ TW: https://www.twitter.com/revel9 #youtuber #revel9 #hardrocklunchbox #todaysrant #99wnrr #streamingradio #radiohost #currentevents #culture #lifestyle #covid #anxiety #socialanxiety #doors #gyms #icallfives #normalcy #boburnham

Welcome to Cloverleaf Chiropractic Show. Today we're going to talk about pain symptoms and what it means to the body. And it's not what most people think. Welcome to the Cloverleaf Chiropractic Show, a podcast advocating wellness, life and healing from within. With 38 years in practice, 50,000 patients and over 1 million chiropractic adjustments, here's your host, Dr. Daniel Abeckjerr. My name is Dr. Daniel Abeckjerr. I'm a doctor of chiropractic. Stay tuned. And we're going to do this show to more or less educate the public on health and wellness and Chiropractic, and we're going to focus on pain and what that means to the body. So what is pain? Pain is the body way to tell you that something is going on, something is wrong, that there is an injury or there is a problem. Pain is an alarm, it's a warning sign. Most people don't listen to the warning signs, they don't listen to the alarm. It's like having a warning light on the dashboard or your car and not paying attention to it. The consequences are going to be severe. We need to listen, we need to listen to our body.Pain is a symptom. A symptom is a warning sign of something greater. We need to be grateful for the warning signs because it tells us that something is going on. Warning signs for heart attack is chest pain, and pain in the left arm. It needs to be addressed, and if you don't take care of it, you can lose your life. Most people approach the symptoms by taking medication, by suppressing the symptoms or the pain or the warning signs. So again, it's like the oil light in your car is the warning sign telling us there's a problem. And if you ignore it, or if you put a piece of paper over it, and you're thinking the problem is not there and the problem is gone. But it's not there, it's not the way works. This is like putting blinders on. Imagine if somebody had chest pain from heart attack, and you took a medication just to cover up the pain and just to cover up the problem. That is just not the right thing to do.When a person has a back problem, most people take pain pills, they take a cortisone shot, which is only a temporary fix. The usual process is at first that takes medication over the counter. And if that doesn't work, usually we will go to our primary doctor and the primary doctor will give us something stronger, something that you know will cover the pain better. And if that doesn't work, usually they'll refer you to a pain clinic. So that's the process today. And when you go to a pain clinic, they're going to give you some really strong medication like opioids. And that is very addictive. Then you become addicted to prescribed medication. So it happens very quickly. Today, we have an opioid epidemic. And people are getting addicted right and left, even an older person like grandma or grandpa can be addicted overnight without realizing it. And I saw in my own eyes when my daughter, she had knee surgery, she had an ACL tear and they did surgery on her, and they said to her for the next two or three days, take this medication, and it was an opioid. And after about 2 or 3 days, we stopped giving her the medication. And sure enough, she started having a reaction; sweating and really reacting like her body craved the medication. So it's amazing how fast it can happen. 50% of the people that are in rehab home, that are addicted to drugs are addicted to prescribed medications. And it's very common, especially when you have back problems, and we see it in our office all the time. People that come in that are taking opioids for back pain. So they go to the doctor and the pain doesn't go away, they don't address the problem properly. And sure enough, they just rely on the medication. So what are opioids? Opioids are like medication like Oxycontin; oxycodone or hydrocodone, or Vicodin. One of the most common opioid is morphine, and a lot of people a

Description One if by land, two if by sea, and three if by dirigible … Just in case you haven’t heard, the ACAMIS Tech Conference is coming! (We might have mentioned it once or twice) In fact, it’s just around the corner.  Today on the podcast we’re going to give a little preview of just one of the awesome ideas being addressed.  Ralph Emmerink from Xiamen International School will be here to give us a preview of his session on how technology can help our students with “the 4C’s” (Critical thinking, Creativity, Collaboration, Communication). Hashtag: nospoilers Lessons Learned Chris - Once again, I am thankful that I always back up my hard drive ... Dennis - Digital Archiving.  Are you able to access and view files from 10 years ago? What should you do so old codecs work with current technology?  SWF Files, but what about old digital video, Hi8, S-VHS, 8mm film.  Will what you want to see be playable when you want to see it? Daniel - iOS 13 - Apple has implemented new “smarter” battery charging, in order to help stave off your iPhone’s battery going bad too quickly. What this means is your phone may charge more slowly when you leave it plugged in for a long time. It will initially charge to 80 percent, and then will charge the final 20 percent more slowly. Plug the phone in before it asks you to enter a low-power mode; iOS will ask you to turn that on when you hit 20 percent power. Plug it in when the phone is between 30 and 40 percent. Phones will get to 80 percent quickly if you're doing a fast charge. Pull the plug at 80 to 90, as going to full 100 percent when using a high-voltage charger can put some strain on the battery(called trickle charging.) Keep the phone battery charge between 30 and 80 percent to increase its lifespan.   Fun Fact Thomas Edison When implementing a new technology, sometimes things don’t always go as planned.  This was the case back near the turn of the century when Thomas Edison was a special guest at the Bijou Theater for the first performance of a play staged under electric lights.  As you might guess things didn’t go exactly as planned when after intermission lights started to flicker and go dim.  Embarrassed, Edison excused himself, took off his formal clothes, and went to the basement to personally shovel coal to keep the generator going for the rest of the performance and the fancy dress banquet afterwards which was supposed to be held in his honor.  (Source:  The Book of Strange Facts and Useless Information by Scot Morris)     Notes & Links SPECIAL GUEST: Ralph Emmerink , Xiamen International School Born and raised in the Netherlands, Ralph received his BEd in History and an MA in Globalisation and Development Studies there. He is presently teaching MYP I&S and Design Tech at Xiamen International School, Xiamen, PRC. He is Google Certified and has presented workshops on technology integration in Mexico, the USA, China, and Hong Kong. Technology integration is his passion and thus he is constantly looking for new and innovative ways to assure that students demonstrate their learning in an engaging, creative and collaborative manner, preparing them for the future.   Discussion: Talk about your background with technology in education. Technology Do’s and Don’ts? - Essential conditions for successful tech integration. What are the 4 C’s?

Well, Despite their better judgement, we are MAKING IT HAPPEN live, here, at the home of our podcast - Concordia International School Shanghai.  We’ve got a LIVE and lively audience and some amazing guests who will be sharing what THEY made and HOW they made it happen. Lessons Learned Dennis - There are two different Microsoft Forms.  Forms and “Forms for Excel”. If you want your forms to populate a live Excel Online Spreadsheet, you better pick “Forms for Excel” Daniel - Dr. Li Jiang - Stanford professor and co-Chair of SUGAR Network and involved with the Stanford D School design thinking program -Dr. Jiang talks about going beyond Computational Thinking to AI thinking curriculum.  Basic ideas behind deep learning and cognitive computing. https://sugar-network.org/about Chris - “Love people for who they are, and not who you want them to be.” I believe this should be the mantra of all coaches, and maybe just all people. These words of wisdom resonate with me deeply. For these and other thoughtful thoughts like the “Five Day Teacher Challenge” check out our Ed Tech friend and colleague Rushton Hurley’s blog linked in the show notes. http://rushtonh.com/2019/10/14/for-who-they-are/ Fun Fact The Monks’ Penance The first strong beer (5-6% ABV) was brewed by Catholic monks in the 16th century to them make it through their Lenten fasts without losing too much weight.  The Bavarian abbot was concerned that the merriment brought on by the delightful brew might not be pious - especially during the holy days - so he sent a barrel to the Vatican for an official ruling.  The cardinals in Rome, who were wine drinkers, took one taste of the bitter brew and not only gave official approval, but actually commended the monks for accepting the extra penance of drinking it. I know some of us do. Join us as we argue the finer points of each and see which one comes out on top when the dust settles. Lessons Learned Chris - Empathy and compassion are not synonymous, at least not in the realm of psychology. Having empathy means having a kindred emotional reaction to another person’s emotional state. Compassion is a choice, not an emotion. Compassion is choosing to take positive action in order to assist another person. It comes very close to the concept of “agape” love. Daniel - We default to what we know - Spreadsheets example Dennis - iPhone Camera Setting - If you’ve updated your iOS recently, know that “High Efficiency” is not as efficient as “Most Compatible”.
