Syed Rahman (@shapingelements) designed The Micro, a consumer-friendly, sub-$300 3D printer, which went on to be one of the best performing kickstarter campaigns of all time. Today, he's building products for creators —like Coffees with Creators which allows fans to book calls with their favorite influencers. In this episode of Zero to (point) One Syed and Zach discuss: Why indie hackers should focus on building an audience before building a product The biggest problems TikTok creators face today How to create content that retains attention The pros and cons of building in public This episode is brought to you by SwipeWell. SwipeWell helps you save all of your marketing inspiration in one place, enabling you to build a swipe file that you will actually use. About the Show Zero to (point) One is hosted by yours truly, Zach Busekrus (@zboozee). I'm an entrepreneur in residence at a marketing firm by day and building my own start up Sponstayneous by night. Sponstayneous brings subscribers the best last-minute deals and upcoming steals on Airbnb. My wife and I co-founded the company while living full-time on Airbnb last year. There's a lot of podcasts out there that feature entrepreneurs: once they've gone public once they've had an exit or even once they've made their first million. But not as many that feature the first-time Product Hunt launchers, the Indie Hacker that has yet to go viral on Twitter, or the micro influencer who wants to build their first niche product. And there's where this show comes in. Zero to (point) One features a collection of ideas that may go nowhere, or just might change the world, from people you've never heard of, who may just become household names. A nod to tech founder Peter Thiel's Zero to One framework, Zero to (point) One explores the beginnings of (very) early-stage creators and entrepreneurs whose first chapters are still being written. Each guest featured on the show has MRR of $500 - $10k (no more and no less) or has 10k - 100k followers on Instagram, TikTok, or Twitter. Come and meet the next generation of builders wherever you get your podcasts every Friday morning. If you'd like to be on the show or if you know someone who might be a good fit for the show, send me an email at zach@sponstayneous.com or DM me on Twitter @zboozee. Finally, be sure to subscribe — who knows? You may just meet your future co-founder, your next great investment, or the next Steve or Elon right here.

About 20 years ago, most people would have been unfamiliar with the term crowdfunding. Now, when it comes to the arts, you can crowdfund anything from comic books to Mystery Science Theater 3 Thousand to musical compositions. What it takes to successfully crowdfund a rock project is the focus of this episode of Stats and Stories with guests Moinak Bhaduri, Dominique Haughton and Piaomu Liu. Moinak Bhaduri is an Assistant Professor, Mathematical Sciences at Bentley University who studies spatio-temporal Poisson processes and others like the self-exciting Hawkes or log-Gaussian Cox processes that are natural generalizations. His primary interest includes developing change-detection algorithms in systems modeled by these processes, especially through trend permutations. His research has found applications in computer science, finance, reliability and repairable systems, geoscience, and oceanography. Dominique Haughton is a Professor of Mathematical Sciences and Global Studies at Bentley University, and Affiliated Researcher at the Université Paris 1 (Pantheon-Sorbonne). Research interests include applied statistics, business analytics, global analytics, music analytics, data mining, and model selection. Professor Haughton's work concentrates on how to best leverage modern analytics techniques in order to address questions of business or societal interest. Piaomu Liu is an Assistant Professor, Mathematical Sciences at Bentley University. Her research interests include Lifetime data analysis (recurrent event & competing risks), joint dynamic modeling, and semiparametric methods.

In this episode, host Nalin talks about how to create a successful Kickstarter and Indiegogo campaign. Nalin shares steps that you can follow to create your successful campaign. Nalin discusses: - [1:03] A lot of people think that because they have an incredible idea, put a nice crowdfunding page together and just launched their campaign, people will automatically come to their page and it will raise millions. That’s a huge myth. - [3:02] It all starts with a good product, something that people want, and people actually need. - [3:26] You can make sure you have a good product by doing market research, pricing research and good competitor research. - [5:22] Next for a successful campaign, you need good assets. Good assets will take your product very far. - [5:31] Everything that people see about your products all comes down to what pictures and videos you take of your product, little snippets you’ve taken of assets you have. - [7:25] You have to find people who want to talk about your product. These can be people like bloggers, vloggers, or anyone else who has an audience. - [8:36] You need to find your own audience, make your own connections. - [9:35] Finding an audience and finding the right people for your product is hugely important. - [11:05] You can find your audience by going to friends and family. Or by going on forums, talking to people and sharing your product. - [11:38] The main way people find their audience is by going to Facebook and running advertising to a group of people who they think will be interested in their product. - [12:12] Warm up your audience for your pre-launch by following up and “nurturing” your relationship with them. - [14:55] Stretch your reach by doing a live session and answer questions directly. - [15:10] Directly message people who have backed you or haven’t and find out why to make changes on your product. - [16:52] Crowdfunding takes a ton of preparation, time, energy, and work. - [17:56] It is not a complex process, it's how good you execute it and how much you follow these steps!
In this conversation I chat with the multi-hyphenate actor, writer and director Emily Seale-Jones (https://www.instagram.com/emilysealejones).Emily started acting from a young age, training at North London Performing Arts School from the age of 14, but it wasn’t long before she had the urge to direct. She talks about how a comment from a pesky boyfriend stoped her from pursuing becoming a writer/director. But when she did finally make the jump and started writing, things progressed very quickly. She describes how learning Meisner as an actor helped her connect with other performers both as an actor and later as a director and writing. Emily tells her journey from writing, directing and starring in her web series Franke and Emma, to getting signed to an agent. And then writing and directing her short film and getting her series ‘brunch bitches’ commissioned with Comedy Central, which ultimately led to being broadcast on Funny Or Die and another series commission. Emily breaks down the whole development process, explains why she can’t write at home and we discuss whether being on social media is essential for your career or is it just something we convince ourselves we should be doing. We also compare our respective aunt and uncle duties and it turns out we both suck! Lots here to enjoy, Emily is great and funny and talented, you will love her.Happy listening :)Steve - @offkeysteve See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

I have received many emails from people on a tech startup journey and enjoy listening to this show because they can learn from the experiences of others. If you are listening to this show today and have your own idea and thinking, how do I get the prototype made, do I start a Kickstarter or Indiegogo campaign? and Where do I start? you should find today's conversation valuable. I invited Tom Haflinger from Zendure onto my daily the podcast to found out more about the secret to a successful crowdfunding campaign and learn more about their startup story. We also talk about how Zendure's new Passport Pro travel adapter has reached its fundraising goal of $30,000 USD in its first full day of crowdfunding on Kickstarter. Passport Pro: Resettable Grounded Travel Adapter Passport Pro is 16% smaller than its predecessor, Passport, and includes a reusable fuse that can reset with the press of a button. "Like other travel adaptors, Passport Pro is designed to protect itself and the user from drawing too much current," said Zendure CEO Bryan Liu. "But while most products on the market achieve this with a single-use fuse that has to be replaced, Passport Pro is back in action as soon as the user presses the reset button. It's one less thing to worry about when traveling." One of Passport Pro's four USB power outputs has a USB-C connector that works with Power Delivery (PD) technology, which can charge many latest-generation electronics substantially more quickly than a typical USB output. With PD, Passport Pro can charge an iPhone X from zero to 50% in just 30 minutes.
Funding is a common challenge for many of us, but how can platforms like Kickstarter get our products in front of people? How do we determine if there’s a market for our products? What role does storytelling play in promoting our Kickstarter campaigns? On this episode, the founders of Love Powered Co., Anna Lozano and Lindy Sood, share how they built a six-figure business by selling positive affirmation cards made for children, and they give insights on successful crowdfunding. Running a 30-day Kickstarter campaign is like running a marathon. We had to strategically map out the pre-launch, launch, and post-launch. -Anna Lozano 3 Things We Learned From This Episode More and more parents are interested in self-development (10:00-12:30) The modern mom wants to do more than provide shelter and food for her children. There’s a demand for self-improvement materials, even for children. There’s also a large market out there for methods of instilling confidence in children from an early age because adults know difficult life can be without it. The impact of affirmations on both parents and children (15:00-16:30) Affirmations are beneficial for adults, too. Also, parents will often spread the word about the products they just purchased, giving added reach for your brand. Your campaign has to have a message and a mission (18:00-19:30) Successful Kickstarter campaigns are more about the brand message and less about the product. The first thing our audience sees is the solution we provide and how we want to make a small change around us. If we just promote a commodity, we won’t stand out. We have tell a story of how our product can improve the lives of the people who purchase it.. A Kickstarter campaign is not a sprint, but a marathon. Many of us make the mistake of just launching the product or service when we need to map out the pre-launch, the launch, and what happens after. This usually means we need to craft an entire brand message that will be sent to our audience. It is a lot of work, but it is worth it for an impactful and effective campaign. Guest Bio- Anna Lozano and Lindy Sood are the founders of Love Powered Co., a card company that uses positive affirmations to empower children in their own journey. You can find their positive affirmations cards and downloadable prints here. Follow them on social media Instagram.com/lovepoweredco and facebook.com/lovepoweredco.
Gather is a modular home for your essentials, thoughtfully designed to help you cut through the clutter. I’d hazard a guess that 99% of our readers work at a desk and that most those will probably be as untidy as mine. Designer Jeff Sheldon, founder of Ugmonk, felt there was a need to a more customisable and attractive solution. So he created Gather, a beautifully designed minimal organizer, a place to bring all your essentials together. His Kickstarter campaign was fully funded within 24hours.
