Experience and insight is what makes each of our perspectives unique. No two of us can lead the same life. Even though on the surface, it may seem as if some of us are on very similar paths, we all experience it a little bit differently. Every person will have a different set of successes and failures, joys and hardships, achievements and ambitions—the list goes on. Our experiences are even more unique than our fingerprints. And I think these experiences can—and perhaps even should—be applied to the art that we create. Experiential art, or art created through the lens of our experience, is the truest way I can imagine to create unique things. It's nearly impossible to photograph something that has never been photographed before, but no one has photographed these things through your eyes. That's the key thing to remember here. The thoughts, feelings, and memories associated with the things that you photograph are what gives you an individualistic frame of reference that no other person is going to have because no other person has lived your life. To put this in simpler terms, let's look at real world examples. Imagine yourself out on a photographic outing, and you want to take a picture of a tree. Millions, probably billions of trees have already been photographed. If the tree you are photographing is particularly notable for some reason—because it's gigantic or has unique features—then you're probably not even the first person to have taken a picture of that particular tree... De Lira holds a BA in Art History & Studio Art from SUNY Albany (2019) and an MFA in Art Photography at Syracuse University (2023). His undergraduate education dramatically influenced his aesthetic, formal skills, and research interests for his present work in art photography. De Lira's work concentrates on intimacy, desire, and love, which have been important elements of his own embodiment, along with the subjects of his photographic gaze, who are part of his chosen family--his husband, friends and lovers. He consciously uses elements of light, color, gesture, and pose to imbue his photographs with emotional and psychological intensity. De Lira's work does not attempt to provide definitive answers. Rather, he invites viewers to engage with others in an intimate, meaningful way, requiring them to reflect on their own identities in the process. In this episode, Corey shares many insights about his journey of discovering climbing at the early age of 13. He talks about how he has been lucky to be able to combine both of his passions, climbing and photography, to create a fulfilling career. Corey shares a very real look into his journey and how things changed once he had a daughter. He pulls back the curtain and talks about what is involved in pursuing opportunities to shoot stunning visual pictures. Corey Rich loves to tell stories. He's a photographer and a director from South Lake Tahoe who has been documenting adventure sports for over three decades. He's been taking climbing pictures since he was 13 years old, and over the years his work has helped define the genre of adventure photography in both the editorial and commercial spaces. You've seen a lot of his pictures, in magazines, ads, catalogs, and online. You may also be familiar with his work as a director; he has shot commercials for some of the world's biggest companies. But his archive of adventure photography contains many stories that you probably don't know. He's written a book called Stories Behind the Images. It's a book that gives insight into what it means to create a career doing something you love, and how success is all about building great, lasting relationships in business and in life.He lives with his wife, Marina, daughter, Leila, and dog, Preta, in South Lake Tahoe. To follow his work and adventures, you can find him here:Corey's WebsiteFollow Corey on IGFollow Candace on Instagram

He has worked on the red carpet for movie premiers, including Transformers, White Rabbit, and the One Direction Movie as well as the BAFTAS, Erase MS, and the Golden Globes. In 2012 he received a nomination for a Shorty Award for both Blogging and PR. Doug Probst (Shawn Mayotte): I chronicle my reality, from living in a house of horrors until age 12, then entering a county system as an impressionable, prepubescent white boy, and exiting a cynically enraged egomaniac with no self-esteem and poor social skills. How could I have acquired social skills? I was taught to believe my only marketable skills were my sexuality, my anger, and my musical ability — in that order. I was diagnosed with PTSD during my first year on the streets by a Newport Beach psychiatrist. At 17, I was released to the streets and immediately began a male escort service; with me being the number-one escort. I also started two other careers at once, one considered illegitimate and one considered legitimate. I was modeling for an industry that was pornographic (photos for magazines), and I was also being hired to play music. In those days, I could keep the two separated; I could earn money in distinctly different businesses without ever worrying that somehow the two would collide, and I'd be found out. In fact, I lived in “my world” and I only entered “your world” when I had to. A world-renowned photographer renamed me Shawn Mayotte in 1983, and thus began my nude modeling career. I was also a personal escort (sex worker) to many rich and famous movie & television moguls and actors including Robert Reed, David Geffen, Dack Rambo, Sandy Gallin, Allan Carr, and numerous others. A recording of the zoom interview between Steve and William, can be seen on our Instagram account: @grosvenorgallery, as well as on our website: www.grosvenorgallery.com Throughout his career, McCurry has produced some of the most recognisable and iconic photographs of recent times. His work spans conflicts, vanishing cultures, ancient traditions and contemporary culture alike - yet always retains the human element that made his celebrated image of the Afghan Girl such a powerful image. In 2004, McCurry founded ImagineAsia, a non-profit organisation to help provide educational resources and opportunities to children and young adults in Afghanistan. The Traveller's Eye is a visual diary of black and white photographs, shot over the last couple of years by William Dalrymple during his travels and research for his two books ‘The Anarchy' and his upcoming book ‘The Golden Road'. William has followed the footsteps of the central characters in his books which has led him to travel extensively throughout the Indian subcontinent and modern-day Pakistan, Afghanistan and down to Sri Lanka, locations of many of the images in the exhibition."I've been visiting all the places where this history took place – the battlefields and ruins, the mosques, Sufi shrines and temples, the paradise gardens and pleasure grounds, the barrack blocks and townhouses, the crumbling Mughal havelis and the palaces and forts."The Traveller's Eye: Photographs by William Dalrymple, runs at the gallery from the 1st - 30th July 2021. Sturman discusses his parallel journey as a yogi and developing his skills as a photographer, and how the two practices have supported him in living a life of connection, compassion, and challenge. Our parlour guest today is Vera Rodriguez (she/her), who has over 20 years experience in and around the sex industry. Vera Rodriguez comes from Spain where she graduated in Journalism and worked briefly in national newspapers. In 2000 she moved to London and started working in a peep show in Soho to pay for her studies on Art Photography. She worked in numerous strip venues in Soho and East London and she also toured in peep shows around Europe, photographing red light districts, peep shows, strippers. She was also very curious about the fetish scene of London, which she explored. Her photographic work defies conventional journalism as her approach to social documentary is mainly in a ‘gonzo' style. Her stories are lived from the inside rather than as a passive observer. In 2011, she volunteered as a photographer for the first Sex Workers Film Festival in London. Since then, she combined sex work, photography and activism. She has worked with English Collective of Prostitutes, Sex Worker Open University (now SWARM) and X-talk, as member of the latter, she co-started 'Pole Studies', free pole dancing lessons for people from all genders and backgrounds of the industry and their allies. She was an active member of the East London Strippers Collective and is still a cast member of the Sex Workers' Opera. In 2015 she curated 'The Art of Stripping' at the Red Gallery, in East London. In 2017 she became a Programme Associate of Red Umbrella Fund, the first and only global fund, by and for sex workers. She manages the portfolio of Western Europe and Latin America and works on Communications. In 2020, she co-created queer.red Foundation: a platform to share and promote culture with the aim to challenge stereotypical narratives around sex workers with an intersectional feminism approach. https://www.verarodriguez.art/ IG: @vera_rodriguezzzSupport the show (https://www.patreon.com/kittyvelour)

For this episode, we bring you something a little bit different. A few months ago, we were invited to work in collaboration with the podcast Refugee Voices Scotland, and make a guest series for a new podcast called The Sounds of Integration. We decided to make a series on the theme of community. It’s a series celebrating the power of community, but also thinking about what happens when communities are put under strain. When people move from one place to another, moving away from the community they know and into a new one. When borders and visas separate us. When being within two metres of another person becomes dangerous. Can communities survive physical distance? How can we support each other when we can’t stand beside each other? We’ve called the series ‘What does community mean to you?’, and it features lots of short interviews with interesting people. This is the first episode from the series, which we’re releasing on the Accentricity feed as a taster. If you’d like to hear the rest of the series, you can subscribe to the Sounds of Integration podcast using this link, or through your podcast streaming app of choice. The Sounds of Integration is made by the UNESCO Chair for Refugee Integration Through Language and the Arts at the University of Glasgow. You can find them on Twitter @UofGUnescoRILA. *** This episode is called We’re All Allowed To Be Who We Are. It features stories from five Glasgow residents. Below is some information about each of them, in order of appearance. The conversations in this episode took place in October and November 2020. * Marzanna Antoniak is a culture animator, community development worker, and a language teacher with a special interest in working with people who have had little experience of formal education.
