Today's interview revisits and finalises the series of podcast conversations that I had with various folks whilst at Pegaworld earlier this. This episode is a combo affair and features a conversation with Tara DeZao, Director of Product Marketing, AdTech and MarTech, at Pega. It is then swiftly followed by a chat that I had with Simon Thorpe, Director - Global Product Marketing - Customer Service & Sales Automation, at Pega, who is then joined partway through the conversation by James Dodkins, a friend of the podcast and CX Evangelist, at Pega. Fun and games! Our conversations cover my guests' highlights from the event, their perspective on the current state of play in marketing, personalization, customer service, customer experience and the impact of Gen AI on all of the above, amongst a bunch of other things. This interview follows on from my recent interview – Print-era thinking is holding personalization efforts back – Interview with Vivek Sharma on Movable Ink – and is number 515 in the series of interviews with authors and business leaders who are doing great things, providing valuable insights, helping businesses innovate and delivering great service and experience to both their customers and their employees. Disclaimer: I partnered with Pega to conduct interviews and provide my perspective on PegaWorld iNspire 2024.
Today's interview is with Vivek Sharma, Chief Executive Officer & Co-Founder of Movable Ink, which empowers marketers with scalable, omnichannel personalization through data activation and AI decisioning. Vivek joins me today to talk about their recent 2024 Audience of One research report, content creation as a key bottleneck in personalisation efforts, how automation through the increased use of artificial intelligence is permitting marketers to take a more strategy-focused approach, how that is impacting metrics like engagement rates, campaign RoI and improved commercial returns and some of the ethical concerns marketers have with new technology. This interview follows on from my recent interview – Agents view agent-assist technology as more important than a competitive salary – Interview with Gopi Polavarapu at Kore.ai – and is number 514 in the series of interviews with authors and business leaders who are doing great things, providing valuable insights, helping businesses innovate and delivering great service and experience to both their customers and their employees. 16th July is World snake day - 4 days from today when this episode is released and on this occasion, we are doing a case study of Snake-a-doo, a board game about Snakes and Snake-bites. More than a million people have died due to snakebites in India in the past 20 years. “Snake-a-doo” is an original take on the conventional snakes and ladders game, only this time without any ladders (it only has snakes). It is geared towards education on 9 snake species commonly found in India including the 4 main venomous ones. Today we have Peeyush Sekhsaria who conceptualised the game and Khyati Pathak who designed it. Peeyush has a Masters's in Earthen Architecture from CRATerre, France, and an M.Phil in Geography from the Sorbonne, Paris. He is currently based out of Delhi working as a Consultant in the domains of Environment, Disaster Management, and Development. Khyati is a writer and a cartoonist. Passionate about policy frameworks and also the host of Puliyabaazi Podcast. Before we begin, I also want to call out the team who have designed this game with careful messaging, attractive colors, good photographs, and in the tradition of a good board game that will be fun and learning at the same time. Shubham Sayanke, Jose Louis, Parikshit Suryavanshi, Shashi Jha, and Vivek Sharma. Snake-a-doo has been brought to you by Indiansnakes.org and WASA Amravati. 50% of the profit from your purchase goes to support WASA, Amravati's work in education on snakes and snake bite reduction, and 50% goes to support copies of the game for local groups. So head on to https://snakeadoo.wordpress.com to buy. Questions What is Snake-a-doo? What made you come up with this idea? Can you briefly share some numbers related to “people dying due to snake bites, types of snakes, density of snakes in different areas within India, snake deaths, impact on food chain etc…” What was the process of making it? Initial iterations, user testing (
Cloud-based platforms, machine learning that increasingly improves or eliminates routine tasks, the phenomenon of “everything” as a service - platforms that stand on their own and tech stacks that embed complex capabilities into other software with minimal coding - these are just some of the technologies reshaping what is commonly referred to as “back office” financial operations. At the same time, these technologies are reshaping the customer journey - particularly when it comes to payments. New payment experiences facilitated by digital wallets, digital currencies, fast payment systems, and sophisticated transaction monitoring tools are increasing sales, lowering costs, enabling global expansion, unlocking new revenue streams, and speeding up settlement cycles. However, as we know, a critical component for maximizing any technology investment is the leadership of an organization. In this case, the relationship between the payments leader and the Chief Financial Officer is front and center. In this episode, Yvette Bohanan is joined by Vivek Sharma, Head of Revenue and Financial Management at Stripe, to consider the importance of this relationship and how, by joining forces, these leaders can help the C-Suite achieve the organization's broader strategic objectives.
Growing up during a period of violence can foster the quest for nonviolence. Social activist and entrepreneur, Vivek Sharma grew up during the times of violent militancy in Punjab. In Episode 2 of Ahimsa Conversations Podcast, he explains how this shaped his quest for ahimsa as an effort in which he has not yet succeeded but which has enriched his life's journey. Vivek is the founder-director of Gandhi fellowship program and is committed to training young people in compassionate processes.

This week, The Musafir Stories speaks to Surya Raju who was the very first guest on the podcast when we started more than 5 years ago talking about her experience on the Kedarkantha Trek! Today's destination: Kedarkantha, Uttarakhand!Nearest Airport: Dehradun Airport (DED)Nearest Railway Station: Dehradun Railway Station (DDN)Prerequisites - Permit requiredPacking - Pack trekking gear and warm clothesTime of the year - DecemberLength of the itinerary: 6 daysItinerary Highlights: Surya talks about the USP of the trek, as well as the difficulty level and preparation required. The railway head for the trek is Dehradun from where the trek company takes the team to Sankri, the starting point of the trek. Sankri is a small village that serves as the base camp for a lot of treks including Harki Dun, Rupin pass along with Kedarkantha trek. It is situated at about 200kms from Dehradun and some buses ply to this little village. The first day's trek involves trekking for about 5 hours and camping at the Juda Ka Talaav - a high altitude alpine lake. This is the first pitstop and provides some wonderful views with the stunning alpine lake surrounded by trees and some dense forests. The stop is a great chance not just to rest and recoup from the first day's trek but also acclimatise with the altitude and get to know your trekking group. The next day's trek is fairly easy and the team gains relatively less in terms of elevation. The destination of the second day's trekking is the Kedarkantha base camp. The team not only rests here, but also prepares for the snow trek with microspikes to ensure grip. The final day of trekking starts very early in the morning, as early as 1AM when the team sets off for the Kedarkantha peak. This is the most strenuous of days given that the team has to not only summit the peak but also return to the base camp at Sankri. The trek involves an ascent in sub zero temperatures on very narrow ridges and severe conditions. However the views once you reach the summit are worth every bit. One gets a view of neighbouring Himalayan peaks including Nanda Ghunti, Swargarohini, Kalanag peak, Gangotri and Yamunotri ranges amongst others. The descent involves taking the same route back to the Kedarkanta base camp followed by a descend to Sankri, usually through a different route. In this episode of Work in Progress, I'm joined by Vivek Sharma, CEO and co-founder of the workforce education company InStride and author of the new book C-Spark: CEO-led Workforce Education for the AGE of AND. In the book, Sharma warns that "the American workforce is in Crisis with a capital C" and challenges the nation's CEOs to do something about it. He calls a company's employees the most important for future growth and says that among the top crises are upskilling, recruiting and retention, and diversity, equity, and inclusion. Sharma argues that corporate education is the answer and it's good for the company and the worker. “Corporate education is an imperative strategy for companies to equip employees with new skills for a post-pandemic working world. The goal is to work back from the goals of the CEO, the strategic priorities, and build a workforce program that provides life-changing, career-boosting, quality education to their employees," Sharma tells me. Helping CEOs create these corporate education programs is the mission of Sharma's public benefits company, InStride, founded in 2019 with partners Arizona State University and TPG Rise Fund. They now offer 300 degree programs from high school through doctorates, 100 certificates programs, and more than 1,300 skills-building courses across a variety of industries. "We have helped tens of thousands of employees avoid $480 million of student debt," he says and adds that these programs have helped dozens of large employers harness and develop the talent potential of their workers. "An initiative in a large organization has stickiness and legs if it achieves the business objective. As time progresses, we will see the companies investing in their employees' education reap the rewards of a more engaged workforce, better progress on DE&I initiatives, and above-average recruitment and retention, all issues that keep CEOs awake at night," he adds. Sharma says the InStride approach is not one-size-fits-all, that it needs to be tailored to the worker's need. He says the CEOs they work with agree. "The most frequent approach that our partners take is 'we are not here to judge what the learning aspiration of the learner is. She knows what she wants. She knows the pace at which she can do it. Let her have access to all the different universities, all the programs, make the decision.' "Some employees have high school completion needs, some have an associate degree need, some want to complete a certificate or a certification, some want to do a four-year degree, some want to do a graduate degree. Our job in partnership with the employer is to meet the learner where she is, make it convenient and frictionless and financially supported for her to make a decision on what she wants to learn." And that, stresses Sharma, is also very good for business. Listen to the podcast here, or find and download wherever you get your podcasts. Companies of all sizes invest $128 billion in training, but very few are investing in education, according to today's guest. Vivek Sharma is the CEO & Co-Founder of InStride, an online education platform that helps businesses reshape employees as learners. Vivek also released a new book titled, "C-Spark: CEO-Led Workforce Education for the Age of And." During the conversation, Vivek and Jeffrey delve into how employees work to learn all while learning to work. Not only will it help employees keep up with the latest skills, but it can also help close the talent gap; however, there's a trick to investing in worker education. Vivek says that for your company's education program to be successful it should help drive the overall business goals. He also explains why he's called our current era the "Age of And" and how worker education helps everyone, even if the employee leaves your company. New Discoms Reform Scheme: Financially and operationally ailing power distribution companies (discoms) in the country have got another chance of revival with the Rs 3-trillion reform scheme. The fifth scheme in two decades and the second by the ruling BJP government, this scheme aims to reduce losses of discoms, and introduce technological solutions and private investment in power distribution space. The scheme provides for strict criteria of selection and fund disbursement for the discoms. As it will become the umbrella scheme for all power sector reforms, this ambitious plan aims at smart metering, power infrastructure improvement, making discoms profitable and adopting new-age technology for demand supply management. To understand the scheme better, Business Standard spoke with energy specialist Vivek Sharma, senior director at CRISIL Limited. Sharma discussed the shortfalls of past schemes, what the current Rs 3-trillion plan will offer, and what impact it will create

Key Takeaways: Personalization is about so much more than words — it's about the full experience you deliver to customers. It IS about the words, but also the visual experience through which that experience is created. Personalized, visual experiences are about right time messages, delivering this content to the right contact or customer, and ensuring that content is suited, specifically, for the device they're using at that moment. How might you be able to leverage augmented and virtual reality to enable consumers to fully experience your brand upon opening an email? By the way, email is more alive than ever before — and is rich with opportunity. Full Shownotes: https://www.emarsys.com/en/resources/podcasts/visual-experiences-vivek-sharma
You’re a cash-starved startup owner. You go hard after one of your big enterprise clients and they pay for a whole year of your service in advance… Just like this, without any additional questions or arrangements. This is what happened to Vivek Sharma back in the day, when his now $50+ mil ARR company MovableInk was struggling to score its first few corporate clients. But this idea to ask for a 12-MONTH ADVANCE PAYMENT didn’t come out of nowhere. Although it sounds intuitive, not a lot of startup founders will come up with it on the spot if they have no experience. Even if they do have experience, it may still not be enough. Because what matters the most is the context and the knowledge of the client. Vivek didn’t come up with the idea with himself – it was a suggestion from his sales partner at CheetahDigital, which is one of the ideas he talks about in today’s Escape Velocity episode. Vivek had no idea the client would be totally OK with this… He elaborates about the advantages of selling with other technology partners who already know the client you’re pitching to. This gives you leverage because you can get inside information as to which solutions the prospect is looking for. Watch the video below to catch Vivek’s insights firsthand. In this incredible interview, we discuss: - Sales partners to increase velocity - The Nifty Fifty - Director-level objectives for sales alignment - Relationship-based sellers vs product-based sellers - Pitching solutions to increase win-rates - Using “Crossing the Chasm” for account targeting - Startup sales to increase sales velocity- The Customer Conference- Pushing yourself out of the comfort zone Lots of SaaS juice in all of them, but I especially want to unpack for you the customer conference, as it’s one of the more neglected marketing channels. Skip to 32 minute in to hear it for yourself. Vivek has done the Customer Conference for 3 years in a row already. At first it started organically when his client services team organized dinners with prospects… Super casual, super conversational. And guess what? It had a great engagement. Because everyone likes being treated as a good friend, and your customers are no different. Seeing the good engagement with smaller scale events, Movable Ink eventually decided to do an Email Transformation Tour – visiting cities around the country to get together with customers and prospects. That’s the business equivalent of a rock band tour…pretty awesome… The tour got very good attendance, and great ROI, which the company tracked with Splash.com (and events management platform). So the natural thing for Movable Ink to do next was to organize a customer conference. You definitely need the right team to pull this off, but if you do it right – from there on, things will only grow bigger… How big? Last year, the Movable Ink Customer Conference got more than 600 marketers at a larger-than-life venue. You can imagine the value of mixing existing customers with prospects and being able to use real-life recommendations – one of the best ways to grow a brand. Obviously, to be successful, event marketing needs time to grow – you cannot simply get the crowd necessary to pull this off as a 2-month startup. But if you do things right, engage your clients, and create value, you can get leverage and acquire new customers by inviting prospects to attend. So what’s your event marketing strategy? In September 2014, I lost my only son who was about 5 then and that was the turning point of my life. Dreams, aspiration, passion, need, greed and everything which supposedly constitute to be called a vibrant life were shattered. Somehow, I gathered myself and tried to move on but I was probably not strong enough to take the weight of tears of a mother and one day, defined everything I could see, hear, feel as “a waste”. I chose to end this trauma by taking the lives of mine and my wife but destiny had its own plan. Something happened that time and I chose to live; only to be strong, be able and give back to society, the country at large. The journey was neither smooth then, nor now but I have learned to see and experience life as it is. This is my first book named “God is not Fair ?” which has learnings from my own life as in, how we bounced back every time life threw challenges on us and conquered. GINF also features 5 such warriors who at one point of their life were so devastated that they thought it’s the end of life but they bounced back and became an inspiration to thousands of people. **I've also started this Podcast channel where I'll be bringing in stories of living people who fought out the odds and contribute to the society at large. Stay tuned and please share your feedback to improve the program!! ** Jai Hind Vivek Sharma Author I Social Entrepreneur
